Makes me weep every time! What a voice, what a legend! Miss you Georgie! My first gay hairdresser in San Francisco introduced me to George back in the late 70s. Then the AIDS epidemic hit and the gay population really suffered in SF. We all worked to raise money for some of the first hospices for gay men. It was a tough time. Thank god we are through that. Bless you George for coming out. Your voice is one of a kind. So much love. ❤️ ❤❤
true... while george michael was trying to stay alive in this industry, he became so superficial investing in the careers of these terrible singers today!!! One thing I know George Michael once said he wanted to be remembered as the greatest singer of romantic music... and that's how I see him!!!! And that's how he was immortalized singing with his heart in his throat... his music will never die, it's part of him and that's how he becomes immortal.
Two ARTISTS that do it for me, one I found on TH-cam over 5yrs ago, her name, the magical voice of MORISSETTE AMON LAMAR from the Philippines and one guy who has always been magical to the music world, the brilliant and sadly missed GEORGE MICHAEL, your music lives on 🇬🇧🔥👌❤️.
@@amriaye7593 you should take a listen to MORISSETTE AMON LAMAR mate she's absolutely brilliant, she's like so easy on the ears with a personality to die for, for a Filipino her English enunciation in her songs is perfection, the only problem is she is an independent artist who won't submit to the big corporate music industry in fear of not being allowed to be herself which unfortunately is not based on talent anymore but rather image based, she's an old school singer despite only being 27yrs old, she mesmerises an audience with her whole persona, personality, charisma with a voice that no one can even come close to 🇬🇧🔥👌❤️.
My mum adored George , she died this year and this was one of her fave songs, played it at her funeral , carried her coffin in to it. Every time I hear it I cant hold the tears back. This song will forever remind me of my mother x

This was the last time George’s beloved mother saw him perform. He never sang better and no one has ever sang this song better. It’s absolute perfection. I’m a metal and rock guy… and even I think George Michael is the greatest male singer to ever sing a song. Simply brilliant. Much missed.
Yes I agree so much with these sentiments. His voice is like a bell. No matter how how fondly he is remembered I still think he was underrated as a singer. Literally one of the best of all time.

The first time I heard this version was an early morning in summer 2017. My ex-husband and I went down to the hotel's breakfast room. We were the first to arrive and exactly as we stepped in, the music started and it was exactly this song. The message I felt was that, after 40 years, it was time to part ways. It's now almost seven years ago that we finally broke up and extra sad because we didn't even argue. We still call each other every week but definitely don't feel like we're going to be a couple again.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I cried when I found out that George Michael had passed away! He had such an emotive singing voice like the U.S. singer Steve ''The Voice'' Perry does! 💗
Not only was George a very talented artist, he was a humble and compassionate man, often contributing anonymously to to various charitable causes... despite his personal battles, ( we all have them) he still leaves a fabulous legacy
George had a lot of ups and downs in his short life. Thinking he was ugly in his youth, pretending to be straight, getting in trouble with the law and being forced to reveal his sexuality. Finding the love of his life, only to loose him to AIDS, and ultimately loosing his Mom. When he passed that Christmas morning it was a great loss to the music industry. His voice was like an Angel and his song writing ability was amazing. You are deeply missed, George. RIP
One of the very few artists who, despite mastering a stunning vocal technique, always sings from his heart. No showing off, just singing his heart out. Sometimes it looks like he sings to himself, not for an audience, he is just lost in the music. And this cuts deep into our hearts.
@@j.whiteoak6408 actually no, just someone who resonates very much with his music. I just listen and notice the control of his voice, the phrasing, the breathing and most of all the emotion. He is really able to communicate through his voice to everyone, I think this is so wonderful about him.
Imagine being there live. Such a legendary performance. RIP to George Michael. I really miss the times as I watch this in 2025. God bless everyone out there in this world.
I grew up with George in the 80s. At that time, it was just fun music and did not think too much about it. Now that I hear what is out on the radio these days, I realize I was blessed to grow up in that generation. I only wish the new generation can hear and feel the music artist like George Michael produced back then.
Same here, Very lucky to grow up in the 80s with the greats. It makes me realize how great they really are when I look around and listen to the crap that is out there in 2021. It makes me sad, it makes me melancholy and nostalgic. I love George, went to two concerts an even met him once. What a thrill!!! These artist worked at their craft tirelessly. Today they use a keyboard and producer record the live streams. There is no talent needed today, sad!!
used to live very near to him in highgate. the small park area in front of his house was filled with flowers, the day he passed. and it stayed that was for probably two years afterwards, new people bringing new flowers and taking care of the old ones every single hour of the day

What saddens me Robyn is that this precious man passed thinking that we, his loving family, would think anything less of him with the change in his appearance. I hope he's looking down and reading all our comments, miss and love you so much Yog
It's like we only lost him yesterday...........his music still lives on in our heats. His soothing voice speaks volumes. May he continue to appease the Lord with his music in Heaven.❤️💋💞🌹
I'm 55 1/2 years old and haven't watched MTV in at least 20 to 25 years. So I never knew that this magnificent performance existed. This song is one of my all time favorite's…and with the one and only George Michael singing it??? It is beyond heartbreakingly beautiful and sad. FOREVER BLESSINGS on Georges magnificent body of work, fantastic charitable legacy and his LOVING and beautiful heart and soul. SO VERY SAD for all of us who loved him like crazy.......I so hope he knew how much he was loved.
THIS is the last performance his mother saw him do. He'd said (interview) it was one he'd wanted to do Perfectly. HE ABSOLUTELY DID!!! The original singing artist is Rita Coolidge; who wrote it I don't know. BUT, HE OFTEN did 'cover' songs FAR BETTER then original artists; he put SO much focus and perfection in EVERY nuance of his delivery....diction, voice control/vibrato, speed/timing, n so on. He DELIVERED w/great INTENT, to me, extremely...masterful and professional NO DOUBT!!! Here is the moment he'd said "Hi, Mom." VERY TOUCHING-THIS SONG and his gesture to her. A TREASURE! 68.media.tumblr.com/8833c52ce7f1aa4b41503388060ed354/tumblr_onfkl7kaHG1vp1kdno6_250.gif
Too much pain, torn between two worlds and never really in either. His musical contribution was huge and his legacy treasured. Fly high, fly free George, we'll always love you.
No words, this voice is unique and nothing to compare with. His intelligence, passion, beautiful appearance and love for people makes him so special. RIP George
I'd be honored if some George Michael fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of ONE MORE TRY and PRAYING FOR TIME on my YT channel in tribute to 2 of George's many legendary compositions. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. THANK YOU GEORGE, WE MISS YOU.
George always said his voice has never been better than it was here, during this MTV unplugged performance. In his own words, it was like his mum was there with him and she just made him hit every note perfectly.
I've lived 54 yrs knowing no one really loved me, not even my mother and father who gave me up for adoption at birth, and never looked back. This song tears my heart out for GEORGE, cause i know he felt that loneliness in his soul, that no one cared, at least not the ones he expected to. I dont give a damn if ur straight, gay, or sideways, you still deserve love, care, time. George, i loved you from afar, you never knew me, but i thought you were the most beautiful man I'd ever seen, and i completely loved your soul for the person you were. Have peace my brother!
In my opinion, George Michael had the most beautiful voice ever. His talent just amazes me. I can’t believe he’s gone. What a musician. So incredible, Rest In Peace legend.
It's like that...all the other singers, including Freddy, are terrible at singing live...and even the pop singers break their voices...it's like a trick they have to show more voice than they have."
George Michael has an emotional, deep and soulful approach. Prince's approach is genius.. If we see how He unroll the song, the song goes through different phases, the choir is going each more dissonant and intense. Prince's version worth by the whole: voice, arrangements, production, interpretation of the instruments George Michael version worth by his beautiful voice. everything else is practically the same throughout the song. No changes.
Saw George in Manchester, he was on his own with no other support on stage and he sang for 2 hours some of the most moving songs in his repertoire, he captivated us that night like he still does every time we hear him, a true iconic legend.
I don't agree that his cover is "better"; Bonnie Raitt is a brilliant singer and songwriter, just as he was, and her version is achingly beautiful, just as his is. There's no real need to compare them and declare a winner. They can both be appreciated.
This is, by far, THE BEST version of this song. I've listened to others, even from George, and they just do not compare. There was a certain magic to this live session. It simply cannot be beat.
You should check the Teddy Swims version of this song. Every time I hear someone saying "today's music" (and I'm hearing this since the 80's) l know people aren't listening to the amazing things being produced.
Pure voice, deep feelings. This is the best definition of a singer of his calibre. He just becomes the song itself. I can't find any other way a person can make a cover of a song that just BEATS the original one. George was really one of a kind!
Satori, Ditto, he lived and went through life with a microscope on him from Wham to the day he passed ,but the world is a darker place whive out him, talented is a understatement I am a he man ! ,and a typical Australian guy tough as guts ,but compared to G M ,I live in his shadow , Vale ,George . J..
Probably the finest singer the world ever had... with such perfection filled in his voice. Can't afford to believe that he had gone too soon. Rest in heaven George.. Love you🙏
I'm sure you know that it's a Bonnie Raitt song? George's version is awesome, but Bonnie's hits it out of the ball park for me 🌹 Either way, great song! 💖
Thank you LADY Bonnie. George did you respectfully well in harmoniously covering this for you. George understood the matters of the heart. He is greatly missed ❤🎉❤.
What a beautiful and crystal clear voice! One of the best singing voices of the past decades. And everything so emotional and pitch perfect! We all miss George, a man with a golden heart and voice, who passed away too early...
Closest today is Zayn Malik if he could just get his s**t together, stop being confused focus on the songs n emotion play the music industry game where required and just fu****g sing out with that voice..then you win as George did
Bonnie Raitts version makes you emotional, but this one gives you goosebumps his voice hits the perfect tone and timing. Live as well, what a writer and performer this guy was.
as too am I, pink Floyd, ACDC, iron maiden, the list goes on, but I also grew up with George in wham, and when he went solo, that's when I started to buy his music.. that's when I realised he touched a string around my heart also with his obvious talent. this song is my favourite cover he did.. it is a tear jerker, especially listening now, and he has gone.. I still find it hard to believe. what a beautiful soul he had..
Jasmin Music yeah love me some Queensryche, Dokken, Judas Priest, Scorps but this man's voice was pure GOLD! My brother's wife drew me a picture of him and my brother gave me tix to see him in 2008 in FL. He said go for me since I cant. what a memory... George was SO likable and witty and that voice will never be replaced. something about him...
Jasmin Music agree totally... I usually mostly listen to GNR but somehow I come across a George Michael video and so for the last few days I've been listening to his songs...mind blown...and I was a teenager in the 80's and after I got older forgot Wham and GM.... what a voice

I have heard this version from 9 different artists (studio and live). George Michael, like him or not, is the GREATEST vocalist in the history of Popular Music! There's no debate about it.
I don’t like to say anyone is the “greatest,” but I would say “one” of the greatest. Even though he is one of my favorites male vocalist of all time. I would say Luther Vandross is up there too. Devastating to think we'll never hear new music from George, He has a perfect, beautiful voice .

Beautiful man 💙 beautiful haunting voice 💙 RIP you legend 💙
Totally agree. Such an awful loss of such a talented man
Beautiful, talented man... Gone too soon.
Not many people that have ever walked this planet can sing better than that. Great Song + Great Singer = LEGEND
NO ONE sings this song better than this beautiful man. He truly made this song his own. He & his amazing talent are sorely missed.

I love it by George but Prince did it much better both of them was great.

His mum was in the audience for this performance and died 3 weeks later from cancer. God bless you George God bless you darling xxx Declan
I will always love him. Forever.❣❣❣
How proud she must have been and now they are together! He is proof that ANGELS WALK THE EARTH…before GOD calls them home…
RIP
Listening in 2022 on the sad anniversary of his passing. Those of us 80s children love you George Michael!
Not just 80s children! But most music lovers!

Hi Patricia, how are you doing?
He's we do...best era ever
* yes
One of the very few artists who, despite mastering a stunning vocal technique, always sings from his heart. No showing off, just singing his heart out. Sometimes it looks like he sings to himself, not for an audience, he is just lost in the music. And this cuts deep into our hearts.
Exactly
Beautifully put. And so true.
Absloute genius, still crying
I've always thought that about GM's singing career ... You must be a singer yourself to understand all this?
@@j.whiteoak6408 actually no, just someone who resonates very much with his music. I just listen and notice the control of his voice, the phrasing, the breathing and most of all the emotion. He is really able to communicate through his voice to everyone, I think this is so wonderful about him.
Imagine being there live. Such a legendary performance. RIP to George Michael. I really miss the times as I watch this in 2025. God bless everyone out there in this world.

The world misses you, George
The guy was some singer indisputable class and talent , sadly missed.Never saw him in concert and it pains me to
I grew up with George in the 80s.
You wrote that absolutely right mate!! I feel the same way. His voice could melt northpole and hearts!!

What saddens me Robyn is that this precious man passed thinking that we, his loving family, would think anything less of him with the change in his appearance. I hope he's looking down and reading all our comments, miss and love you so much Yog

Poor George, he was too beautiful for this world.
Google User never too old to watch mtv😐
Polly Todd - Mtv is pure trash tv these days and has been for a number of years....so best he does not watch it...
Nicely written.
Im 50 years young and I agree with google user; He is so damn right;)
THIS is the last performance his mother saw him do. A TREASURE!

George always said his voice has never been better than it was here, during this MTV unplugged performance. In his own words, it was like his mum was there with him and she just made him hit every note perfectly.
1997 his mother died ... ❤ your correct
She was in fact there. She hadn’t yet passed. This was the only time she saw him perform. It was certainly transcendent.

George Michael was always lovely.xxxx
I've lived 54 yrs knowing no one really loved me, not even my mother and father who gave me up for adoption at birth, and never looked back. This song tears my heart out for GEORGE, cause i know he felt that loneliness in his soul, that no one cared, at least not the ones he expected to. I dont give a damn if ur straight, gay, or sideways, you still deserve love, care, time. Good call!!
It's like that...all the other singers, including Freddy, are terrible at singing live...and even the pop singers break their voices...it's like a trick they have to show more voice than they have."
This is the best version of this song, what a voice. I love this song. What a year, Prince and now George. :( :(
agree sarah, just beautiful :(
And let us not forget Michael Jackson who passed a few years ago, all these singers were great...
sarah c Nope...nothing beats the original (Bonnie Raitt)
I already know you guys don't agree with me but imo James Arthur's version is million times better. His voice too
George Michael has an emotional, deep and soulful approach. Prince's approach is genius.. If we see how He unroll the song, the song goes through different phases, the choir is going each more dissonant and intense.
Prince's version worth by the whole: voice, arrangements, production, interpretation of the instruments
George Michael version worth by his beautiful voice. everything else is practically the same throughout the song. No changes.
Saw George in Manchester, he was on his own with no other support on stage and he sang for 2 hours some of the most moving songs in his repertoire, he captivated us that night like he still does every time we hear him, a true iconic legend.

I agree. And no one could do justice to one of George's songs.
listen to teddy swims cover. please do.
And Tank’s cover as well. Very attractive song to cover, apparently.
I don't agree that his cover is "better"; Bonnie Raitt is a brilliant singer and songwriter, just as he was, and her version is achingly beautiful, just as his is. There's no real need to compare them and declare a winner. They can both be appreciated.
@@susieusmaximus5330 No, George's version isn't better than Bonnie's, but it's very very good regardless. He doesn't "oversing" it.
