An extra for those of you who might want more.
A third sonic storybook game was supposed to be released as a follow up to sonic and the secret rings and sonic and the black knight. Sega held a poll for what the next game was going to be about and they started developing a game that would be about Greek Mythology based on what people voted for in the poll. Unfortunately it got cancelled for reasons I personally don't know, but probably for the poor initial reception of the last 2 games, which is a shame because I loved both of them.
Sonic 4 looks WAY too slow to be a continuation of the OG Sonic games.

Yeah, Sonic 4 was bad. The upcoming Sonic Mania game is much more like the Genesis Sonic games and in my opinion is going to be the true Sonic 4.

It’s funny that the slow pace was the reason why the SatAM video game was cancelled.... but yet they created the Shadow the Hedgehog spin off game, brought in Silver the Hedgehog in 06, and had the Werehog levels in Sonic Unleashed.
All of those are agonizingly slow

Sonic 16 would have been a Rogue-like/RPG hybrid. Since it's not appropriate for Sonic to go so slow, it would have been better to make Sally & Tails the stars.

Well, since Sonic Forces' third playable character is a player-created character, you can make Sally the third character.
I'll try but options are limited so far the only SatAM characters you can create are bunnie and loop. sally I don't know
N,J, Fox mabey sega will make a dlc in sonic forces with more species like camelian,squirrel,chickmunk,alligator,porcupine, and the echidna

Animate the animator they can't include echidna type animals because knuckles is the last of his kind. unless sega forget about that.
Sonic X-Treme is being remade by a team of dedicated programmers and I believe it has a finished build with both engines used intact, but it was only made for PC.
Still, Yuji Naka really screwed up by not letting SEGA's most popular franchise prosper due to some superiority complex. It's no wonder the games went to hell after STI left cause they were the only ones that poured their heart and soul into them.
Really is a shame they didn't have the boss engine as the primary source of development since it would've for sure met the deadline if someone had just said "this wide view looks weird" from the first day. I think it looks very fun, but I would've much preferred the game to be released so that STI would still be making Sonic games today. Though, I doubt Masato Nakamura would have ever returned.

There is another cancelled sonic game that was going to be the thirth game for the wii storybooks series (Black knight and the secret rings) that game never saw the lights saddly and made me really curious about what could it be, but still good video!
In the end, the concept for Sonic Xtreme was recycled into Sonic Lost Worlds, minus the fisheye lens & Space Queens.
The Sonic DS could be a nice bonus game/minigame, maybe it could be incorporated with Sonic Rush

Sa3 was originally gonna be made instead of unleashed but sa3 was scrapped .

The only problem with Sonic 06 was the gameplay and bugs.

I wished we could have had the game with Sonic's lost sister. The plot could have been done differently than planned. I had a friend create her for me, which is a sky blue hedgehog, and I decided to name her Sky, or Skye. I hope one day she'll come to life.

i remember seeing Sonic Extreme at Toys R Us back in the day, are you sure it was never released?
I can see why these games were cancelled. Sonic Xtreme looked like it would've given me a migraine while playing it.
If I had to choose 1 game to be revived, Sonic X-Treme is it. It wouldn't even take me a second to think on it.
A while back, I decided to look into X-Treme's development. The thing that got my attention the most, was Tiara Boobowski, a character meant to be for X-Treme. Her concept art was pretty good, and stemmed some beautiful fanart, with redesigns. I first recognised her in Sonic World, as she was a playable character in that fangame. I thought she was an oc or something, but remembered finding a vector for her, early into my knowledge of the series. At that point, I had no clue who she was, and again, thought she was an oc. Then I looked into it, and found out about X-Treme. To this day, the development for this game is one of my biggest interests, and I would love to find out more.
Sorry, I rant about Tiara easily, since she's my favourite female Sonic character. Even though she isn't officially canon YET. XD XD

Pretty sure Sonic X-treme would not have gone succesful and would have flopped so hard if they released the game. It wouldn't save the SEGA Saturn at all. I'm happy it didn't, cuz it wouldn't give us Sonic Adventure 1&2. It was a nice attempt though...

You are wrong. Sonic 4 was supposed to be only two games, not three. In the debut trailer for Sonic 4: Episode ll, the last line is "To be concluded..." This means that SEGA never wanted to make a trilogy or a third game. Sonic 4 was a experiment to bring a younger audience to Sonic's side-scrolling roots. Sonic Team made Modern Sonic the main character because they thought a younger audience would not enjoy Classic Sonic's cutesy-like art style. This was later false in Sonic Generations, and the upcoming Sonic Forces and Sonic Mania. I rest my case.
But that was years after the release of Episode 1. Between the development of Episode 1 and the development of Episode 2, they could have changed their plans.

During the video, I use a quote from one of the people who worked at Sega at the time who confirmed Sonic 4 ep 3 was planned but cancelled. So if anyone would know, it would be him.
Sonic 4 Episode 3 was known to be in development due to a leak of Episode 2 on Steam. People ended up downloading a beta version of the game before the intended release date, instead of downloading the final retail version. The beta both lacked some textures and included unused 'to be continued' game files to obviously be used at the end of the game. Something happened part-way through the development of Episode 2 that caused them to drop it.

I like Lost World.
it shouldn't have meant to be the first 3d sonic game imo. Mostly because of the fisheye lens gimmick. I love it but, I think it would've been a little too risky for being the first 3d sonic game imo. They should've been a little more traditional before starting with that.
@@shadowboy2818 ... but what is "traditional" for a 3D platformer in 1996? Remember, Mario 64 didn't come out until Mid-1996; STI had no frame of reference to draw from, so they just had to think of something.
Really, I'd argue that Sonic Xtreme was more traditional and conservative to Sonic than Mario 64 was to Mario; rather than completley change the mechanics for 3D platforming, Xtreme just took everything that was standard for a Sonic game at that time and added a Z-axis.

Guessing there'll never be a Sonic 5 then because Sonic Mania (if it does well) would have covered it all. But seriously! Imagine if SEGA and Sonic Team considered making a Sonic 5...
