The honorable mentions actually have been implemented....the mask system and dungeons dropped from Ocarina of Time were mostly put into Majora's mask (and other subsequent games)
The BotW 2D prototype was just a prototype. It was a test for the Chemistry Engine. There were no dungeons or anything. It just tested how fire, wind and other elements reacted with each other.
No Zelda 3 was meant to have a half elf half hum = Link type character, a magic type character and a female fairy type character. It would be 1 player, but your party would have 3 people in it, similar to Final Fantasy games. Tri Force Heroes has 3 "Links" and each is controller independently

There's really only 1 way to rejoin the oracle portion of the games: remake it with everything while being able to choose between which oracle to rescue first and in which order. We already know of Din with seasons and Nayru of ages, but Farore of secrets needs some love which is why she and a new land will need to be brought in with a new name: The Legend of Zelda Oracles of the Goddess.
Sounds like the original Zelda 3 formula may have been the inspiration for Navi and the targeting system in Ocarina of Time, and potentially the inspiration for a party based Zelda game in Four Swords later on.

I'd heard of most of these before, but the Zelda 3 RPG and the Breath of the Wild 2D Prototype were news to me. Man, the Zelda 3 that we did get laid out the foundation for so much of the franchise after that, and it left the more blatant RPG elements from the second game as a one time only experiment (edit: "one time" until BotW at least). Imagine what the franchise could have turned into with more of a hybrid between the first two games as the third game... Gameplay ideas like the controlled NPCs in a couple of TWW dungeons and all throughout ST's dungeons probably would have been a routine mechanic used all throughout the franchise starting with the third game. And single player "co-op" mechanics like in FSA and TFH would probably be a lot more asymmetrical (more like what we got in ST) since they would have been more likely to build it around a party of unique characters instead of just cloning Link.
Another thought along these lines: OoT (if something that we would recognize as it still happened) could have probably given us Navi and Zelda/Sheik or whoever else as controllable party members. And then MM (same disclaimer) could have had Darmani, Mikau, and the Deku butler's son as living party members instead of coming up with the transformation mask idea.
I played and completed (or almost) Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, phantom hourglass, Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild (not completed). I tried Ocarina of Time and Majoras mask (like I played it but didn't complete the half of it) and I have to say, Breath of the Wild is by far the best Zelda game I've played. For some reason (trigger warning) I prefer Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess than Ocarina of Time. Even though I gave a 10/10 on these 4 games and Wind Waker. My point is almost every Zelda games are masterpiece and we don't need to fight for the best game in the series.

You know what would have been interesting. Taking the idea from the first unreleased game, release three games for each time-line where they show different worlds at the same time. They won't be connected but they could show you how things would have been different during those time periods.
I'm glad Zelda was never a "classic" RPG. It makes it unique. It's an Adventure game with RPG elements.(leveling is done through heart and stamina, the weapon system is RPG-Like) which is a pretty unique thing in gaming, even now.
I just wish they would release Tetra's/Navi Trackers in the US. I have Four Swords+ and that game was fun, but not knowing Japanese I had no idea what was going on.

All well and good and I appreciate, this, but one correction is that Ocarina of Time wasn't an open world game, but it was one of the first 3D adventure type games done well! All in all, good video.
Ocarina of Time is known as one of the "better" open world games. The only Zelda games that aren't open world would be like SS and a coupleo f others. You have a huge world to explore in OoT and it doesn't make you go to one place before the other. This was open world. More so than newer open world games like darksiders or others.
it's not open world because the story pushes you in a specific order, yes you can explore, but strictly is not really what we think of as "open world' in 2017.

Wouldn't exactly count the BS games as they really were released to public audiences in Japan, albeit on a limited basis and in a way that couldn't be replicated later. But still, this was quite interesting, especially Zelda 3, despite there apparently being no media. Perhaps he was exaggerating how far along it was, slightly? I bet it really was reworked completely into LttP.
Open world? Ocarina? Honestly, I wouldn't even consider the original to be an open world game. BOTW, I'll admit does fit the definition...though I wouldn't call it groundbreaking in that regard either. Also the 2D prototype for BOTW was still made a different team--it was the same team that made BOTW, but nobody from the Zelda team was present in BOTW except for Aonuma himself. He got rid of all the seasoned developers who previously worked on Zelda games in favor of a new team that had no experience with Zelda.
OoT wasn't necessarily open world. Besides that they should go back and make the third Oracle game and call it "The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Mystical Seeds"

I just wish they would release Tetra's/Navi Trackers in the US. I have Four Swords+ and that game was fun, but not knowing Japanese I had no idea what was going on.

(I’ve been waiting for Zelda to be a proper party member vs a damsel in distress until the final hour. The closest we’ve gotten to date is Phantom Zelda, despite Sheik and Tetra being skilled combatants, and several Zeldas being skilled magic users (like TP Zelda))

No Zelda 3 was meant to have a half elf half hum = Link type character, a magic type character and a female fairy type character. It would be 1 player, but your party would have 3 people in it, similar to Final Fantasy games. Tri Force Heroes has 3 "Links" and each is controller independently

What the hell? Nintendo needs to release that Zelda RPG. It would sell so much, especially considering that news spread fast. I'd love for them to bring back that unique style of delivering content and having it change in real time. Imagine if there was a chat room. Laaaaawd.

All well and good and I appreciate, this, but one correction is that Ocarina of Time wasn't an open world game, but it was one of the first 3D adventure type games done well! All in all, good video.
Ocarina of Time is known as one of the "better" open world games. The only Zelda games that aren't open world would be like SS and a coupleo f others. You have a huge world to explore in OoT and it doesn't make you go to one place before the other. This was open world. More so than newer open world games like darksiders or others.
it's not open world because the story pushes you in a specific order, yes you can explore, but strictly is not really what we think of as "open world' in 2017.

Well maybe one of the future Zelda games would be taking this breath of the wild to diversion and make it like Mario maker and essentially make a Zelda maker game that would be awesome

Wouldn't exactly count the BS games as they really were released to public audiences in Japan, albeit on a limited basis and in a way that couldn't be replicated later. But still, this was quite interesting, especially Zelda 3, despite there apparently being no media.

Open world? Ocarina? Honestly, I wouldn't even consider the original to be an open world game. BOTW, I'll admit does fit the definition...though I wouldn't call it groundbreaking in that regard either. Also the 2D prototype for BOTW was still made a different team--it was the same team that made BOTW, but nobody from the Zelda team was present in BOTW except for Aonuma himself. He got rid of all the seasoned developers who previously worked on Zelda games in favor of a new team that had no experience with Zelda.
OoT wasn't necessarily open world. Besides that they should go back and make the third Oracle game and call it "The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Mystical Seeds"

There were other Zelda games not made by Nintendo. 3 for the Philips CD-i for example.

The fairy as non-battling companion was there in Zelda 64 1&2; it was just poorly made... plus, the unknown "magic-user" was never implemented. :(

I am a major legend of Zelda fan my first title was a Link to the past then ocarina of time and twilight princess I wanted to play skyward sword but I couldn't work with the controls but if it is released with better controls I will play it
+Lisa Dooley those are all great. A link to the past was also my first. Skyward sword has an amazing story, dungeons and bosses.
GameOver Jesse Skyward Sword does have a great story it's my favorite story line but Twilight Princess is probably my favorite game title to play I wished they would have put Link Zelda and Ganondorf in the Olympic Games with Mario and Sonic
