I would honestly watch it! Hope so that dream can come true one day. We will see in the future about if you are gonna do that.
I hate losing a Pikmin. It’s so soul crushing and heartbreaking. These creatures are basically my children and it hurts to see their souls literally leave them when they get crushed, eaten, burned, drowned, or blown up.
While I agree that Pikmin is a phenomenal game that deserves even more recognition, I feel like it is held back a tiny bit by Olimar being the only captain. Pikmin 2 and 3 both allow for more elaborate and micro manageable strategies as well as larger scale puzzles because you have the option to essentially be in multiple places at once. That being said, part of why Olimar's situation feels so dire is because he's *alone* on a hostile alien planet, so I completely understand why they waited till the sequels to implement multiple captains
I can't really agree here. Having multiple captains ultimately takes away from the need to plan routes effectively or commit Pikmin to tasks, which means the core mechanic of the game, using your Pikmin wisely, gets downplayed. This doesn't even take into account how the design of Pikmin 2 shifts away from being an RTS into being more of an Action game, good in its own right, but claiming that 2 allows for more elaborate strategies is a false claim. I like all three of the Pikmin games, they each have their own strengths and weaknesses, but being stuck with a single Captain creates for much deeper strategy, as each decision you take carries more weight.
Limitation leads to creativity. When players have more options than they actually need, they're inevitably less creative with how they solve problems because they don't actually need to be creative to accomplish their goals. Pikmin 2 is an equally phenomenal game in my opinion, and overall I do find it more enjoyable, but it definitely does not make you play more strategically. Similar to what Murray Murphy said, being limited to only one captain definitely encouraged more strategy specifically *because* you couldn't be in two places at once. Figuring out how to accomplish everything you want to do in an in-game day with just one captain involves a lot more thought than accomplishing the same thing with 2 does, and in Pikmin 2 you aren't even really encouraged to do this in the first place as you have all the time you need to beat the game anyway and on top of that all the caves freeze time while you're in them. It is a fantastic action game and I love it for that, but it's not the RTS the original was.
@@damir_van_kalaz definitely, for the most part pikmin 1 is the ultimate console RTS, and pikmin 2 is a skill challenge. (In a way pikmin 1 is intro to speed running, and 2 is intro to rogue likes) But since pikmin 2 is mainly a skill challenge and not a tactics challenge it doesn't force many new strategies. However, subterranean complex which is the one with all the bombs and the man at legs is hard enough to encourage new strategies and is now my favorite hole. My new strategy deviating from the standard kill and collect everything is to run ahead with 0 pikmin and get the careening dirgibugs to kill all the electrical hazards and then use white pikmin to outrun everything else. (I call it heist mode, the point is just raid the treasure and run, its not very applicable to the other holes though since for them it's safest to just kill everything and then collect your stuff)
What the others said, I think on top of help furthering the narrative, Olimar being the only captain helps to make the game more interesting while also enhancing the goal of getting 30 ship parts in 30 in game days. Pikmin 1 has less things to collect than the future games, but it also being the only one with any sort of effective time limit (It's easy to get juice in pikmin 3) I think makes the limited nature of only having one captain more interesting. Plus, Pikmin 1 is generally simpler than the future games, I think, in terms of gameplay. But, idk, probably don't know what I'm talking about.
Not gonna lie, I love the concept of Louie's Piklopedia entries in the second game (and the switch version of three). I'm still waiting for that mobile game. I need new Pikmin content (or at least the other 2 Pikmin games ported to the Switch with all the upgrades of Pikmin 3 like the ability for all Pikmin to carry bomb rocks, along with improved visuals) Also *Steve* Chugga playing Pikmin 1, 2 and 3 was a highlight of my childhood
All Pikmin being able to use Bomb Rocks in Pikmin 1 would essentially make Yellow Pikmin useless, so Yellows would need a major upgrade of some kind to make up for it, which would definitely alter the balance of the game.
My mom was actually obsessed with the game to the point where she'd let us stay home from school because she was too busy playing Pikmin 2 to drive us to school. Those were the good ol' days.
I LOVE starting a new Pikmin file. The iconic music and the ultra-relaxed vibe of the environment, plucking your first Pikmin and then growing more and more of them.
Hey Schaff, I'm currently starting my official Pikmin journey from Pikmin 1 to 4 and I'm really excited as I loved playing the Pikmin 3 and 4 demos. That's only been possible as you spread the word of how fun it all is and I can practise my dandori for this series and real life. Thank you :)
I played through it again for the first time in a while yesterday and managed to get all 30 with 10 days to spare. Had about 270 lost pikmin overall, most of them really unfortunate blunders, but at the end of the game the most proud stat I am able to boast is absolutely 0 pikmin left behind when night falls. And there was in fact a time when time was running out, and I had a ship part being carried back to base, and two pikmin left in a little bit of an unfortunately inconvenient location, but thankfully I was able to work it out and save them in time. While later pikmins still had the same core gameplay loop, I think collecting ship parts and making the Dolphin shiny being lost in later sequels I think actually took away from the experience. When I was a kid I hated the time limit because it took me so long to figure out how to do anything, but now I think it's absolutely fantastic. But I understand how coming up with new ways to create ship crashes would be tedious or get stale over time
HOLY! IT'S 20 YEARS OLD?! I love this game and I'm happy to see more people talk about it. I hope Nintendo plans to do more with this series or like you said at least remaster both 1 and 2. Amazing video :))
YOO I DIDNT SEE THIS VIDEO THANK YOU SCHAFFRILLAS!! Pikmin is absolutely fucking amazing and underrated as hell, you really need to appreciate it and I can tell you do!!!! Even if this didn't get as many views as most your videos, I want to thank you so much for this. Every pikmin game is amazing (despite 2 having its issues)
Can't wait for the obligatory Pikmin 2 video cuz that's one of my favorite games of all time. I really like the caves, I know it puts less emphasis on the time management aspect of pikmin, but it adds a dungeon crawling element that I really love, and I think most of the floors are well designed. Yeah it has it's problems, but most of those come down to universal issues, rather than the design. Here are the things I'd like changed in an hd remaster: 1. Pikmin balance: I think blue, white, and yellow pikmin are in a good place already, it's just red and purples that need to be changed. Purples shouldn't be able to stun things, just homing in and being worth 10 pikmin gives them more than enough unique utility, and red pikmin should just be buffed to their pikmin 1 attack power. 2. Electricity: electricity is the only hazard that instakills, it should be made like pikmin 3 were it only stuns. 3.Caves: This is definitely the least necessary, but I think a time limit on each floor would help keep the caves feel more in line with the rest of the series. 4. Doomsday apparatus: fuck this stupid dumbell, decrease that shit's weight. Also did you seriously call Pikmin 2 lax? That reminds me of how people recommend Metroid fusion as a person's first metroid game. Yeah its easier in term of the series' more divisive aspect, but that completely ignores the fact that the standard gameplay is MUCH more difficult than the other games.
1. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that reds in 2 do have the same damage as in 1, which I think is 1.5x, it's just that purples have 3x damage which makes them melt everything when you combine their stun and homing attacks. Purples should have the homing attack and the temporary split-second stun, but just regular 1x damage and not that ridiculous 5-second stun they can get. This would make purples better for high burst damage, but reds would be better for overall DPS on enemies they can cling to without getting shaken off so quickly. 2. Instakill electricity is bad, but I feel like stunning only wouldn't be enough of a threat. Why not instakill leaves only, but stun flowers and buds while turning them into leaves? 3. I don't think a time limit is necessary, sometimes just learning the layout after the random generation is enough of a challenge if you're in a confined space with a lot of enemies. 4. Yeah fuck the Doomsday Apparatus. 100 purples? So I need to spend literally half a day doing absolutely nothing waiting for this thing to move? If it weighed 900 at least you'd be able to do something, albeit minor, while you wait for it to move with the other 10 Pikmin you can have out. Needing 100 purples, and not being able to do anything else while it's being collected, makes it the worst treasure in the game.
@@lukeiannello6190 1.Could've sworn red's attack was nerfed from 1 to 2, whatever, I still think that Purples shouldn't stun and I forgot to add that I wanted purple to have x1 damage. They shouldn't stun, as either they'd need to not have it or it needs to be severely nerfed, with the time being nerfed, time between each stun being nerfed, and maybe even making all bosses immune to it. Again like I said, being worth 10 pikmin and homing in give them more than enough unique utility 2.I'm not sure if making pikmin into leaves and insta-killing leaves is a good idea either, as that means your army is just going to get insta-killed most of the time anyways. I think make the pikmin run around even more erratically would probably be best to buff elementals hazards, as right now they're just too easy to work around. 3. Yeah like I said this was the least necessary change, but I do think it would be a good one since the caves are very disconnected from the rest on the series at the moments 4. I honestly think the weight should be decreased to like 500, as even just getting 100 purple pikmin is an annoying process, as your probably just goin to have to revisit a cave a bunch until you have enough, and that's incredibly irritating. 5. Just remembered another problem, you shouldn't be able to just separate the captains, give all you pikmin to one of them, then get the other one to the exit to cheese certain cave floors, it's just far too easy to do it and feels like a waste not to since it costs you less pikmin and takes less time
Honestly one of the best aspects of this series is the music, it's genuinely up there with Legend Of Zelda with how good the music is. This series deserves more love.
@@Matoro-wp9hy Can't believe that they cut Ai No Uta from Ultimate. It's absolutely hilarious having this slow and kind of sad love song playing in the background of a fight.
Holy shit, one of my favorite content creators talking about my favorite franchise ever? and has even similar opinions to mine? bruh, this is legendary. i cannot wait for the next 2 games for you tall about. it's honestly difficult finding people who enjoy this franchise, let alone don't think the time limits bad.
Fun fact: I always used Yellows as suicide bombers, like, every playthrough, especially against Emp. Bulborb. I'd use them sparingly, to get his health down, & make him swallow all the remaining bombrock carrying pikmin, just to see him go BOOM & cough up the part!
I properly picked up Pikmin 3 on switch about 4 months ago and I am glad I did, it is truly a unique experience and a good way to get hungry for some fruit!
Ah yes, Steve the Red Pikmin. The Legend himself Also I love obscure and underrated games like this. I mean people know of them but don’t really talk about them. Similar to last years game “Bugsnax”, some of these games are hidden gems that need to be talked more about
I literally just started a Pikmin marathon last week, consuming all of the games and watching Chuggaconroy again and this pops up. How c o n v e n i e n t.
Hi schaff, this isn't related to the video but I'm gonna talk about it anyway. Remember in your tamatoa video, you talked about villain songs, that reminded me. Remember the illumination version of The Lorax? Originally, there was a song called Biggering that the onceler would've sung that was replaced with the song called How Bad Can I Be. I recommend that you listen to Biggering and understand why it's frustrating they replaced this song How Bad Can I Be.
Honestly I played Pikmin when I was a youngling, and time management never was my forte. I never managed to get even half of it before Olimar would just be reborn as a pikmin lmao I got to play it recently once more, after many years without playing it and I managed to beat it with all 30 parts within like.. 26 days or so ? And I've never felt as accomplished in my life as I did that one day where I just sat down and ran the game in one go LMAO I genuinely love this franchise and I'm so happy someone fINALLY SAID WHAT YOU SAID. THANK YOU XD
BY FAR your best video EVER. I am a huge Pikmin fan who also loves your videos and I was not expecting this crossover. Please do 2 and 3/Deluxe next!!!
I love how so many of my favorite franchises were discovered because of Schaffrillas. From Pikmin to The Owl House to even one off movies like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. I love how he’s impacted my media taste, and discovering this definitely flawed, but also charming gameplay masterpiece was definitely worth it. Thank you Schaffrillas.
When pikmin 3 added a first person camera I almost cried. It was 99% of what I wanted, just to BE in that beautiful landscape. I'm a fan of all of them. But I grew up on pikmin 1 and got good enough that I had a system: Grab 2-3 items per day. Spend the other time being a tourist I loved pikmin 2's loot diversity, creature diversity, and the log book. Man I love log books in metroid and pikmin. They really feel amazing
People talk about how much they had to shrink Ridley’s size for smash bros, but Olimar is LITERALLY TWO CENTIMETERS tall in his respective game. So yes, the 2cm tall space man can put up a fight with Italian plumbers, full size apes, blond boys who’ve killed gods, space dragons and bounty hunters, Pokémon, and Kirby. What a CHAD.
I think Pikmin is the one game with a set timer that I wouldn't mind playing. Like, Majora's Mask is obviously a one-of-a-kind game, but I would personally feel pressured to do every single quest within the set time limit, or I wouldn't feel totally satisfied. Pikmin is more relaxed and whimsical, so it wouldn't feel like such a hassle to get everything done in a day
Yes, thank you so much for this. I've seen lots of great videos praising Pikmin and breaking down its gameplay, but I rarely see people actually talk about Olimar's character, and how strong his characterization manages to be in the written text that most people don't give as much attention.
Man I'm so glad someone else loves this franchise. I've got some really fond memories attached to this series (I even remember hypothisizing on new pikmin that would show up in pikmin 3 and actually called pink pikmin being the flying pikmin somehow). Thanks for bringing more attention to this gem of a series
Thank you so much for this video. My dad got me Pikmin 2 for my 10th birthday, and me and my sister played it religiously ever since. I'm glad to see another person who loves this franchise as much as I do.

Is… is Schafrillas a Chuggaaconroy fan?
I smiled so hard when he said that
yeah he is, heck I think he met Chugga at 1 point
In his majora's mask video he said he got into it because of chuggaaconroy
it pops up in his majora video !
He used Chuggaaconroy's "SPINNING IN CIRCLES" in his incredibles ytp I think
I'm still waiting for that mobile game.
I need new Pikmin content (or at least the other 2 Pikmin games ported to the Switch with all the upgrades of Pikmin 3 like the ability for all Pikmin to carry bomb rocks, along with improved visuals)
Also *Steve*
Chugga playing Pikmin 1, 2 and 3 was a highlight of my childhood
Well, your wait is over
Somehow you summoned the Pikmin mobile trailer by your comment. Lol
All Pikmin being able to use Bomb Rocks in Pikmin 1 would essentially make Yellow Pikmin useless, so Yellows would need a major upgrade of some kind to make up for it, which would definitely alter the balance of the game.
I thought pikmin was considered a legendary title? I guess it's underrated now.
No pikmin game has sold over 2 million I think it's safe to say it's underrated
@@morganmccallum2076 you said underrated
It is obscure compared to other games
Those who know Pikmin love it, but not too many people do. It's kind of like a cult classic, as much as you can say that about a Nintendo game.
Technically it is if compared to other popular Nintendo franchises, it's way less known and sells nowhere near as well. Still a great series though.
My mom was actually obsessed with the game to the point where she'd let us stay home from school because she was too busy playing Pikmin 2 to drive us to school. Those were the good ol' days.
Your mom is so awesome lmao
That's... not good.
Holy Cow... not sure if I should be impressed with your mom's dedication or horrified of her out-of-control Pikmin addiction.
@@lasercraft32 Oh be horrified. She was not to be trifled with when in the midst of a gaming binge.
Nice
1:08 has defenitely aged pretty well
I played through it again for the first time in a while yesterday and managed to get all 30 with 10 days to spare.
As in the wise words of a blue muppet that loves this underrated game:
*Pikmin pikmin pikmin!*
I'm hoping for a Arlo cameo
@@Tacom4ster I can do a cameo
Pikmin is one of the first games I ever remember playing, and I was captivated. I love this series so much it will always be one of my favorites
"Re-release 1 and 2 in HD" predicted the future.
Hearing the name Steve brought back so much chuggaaconroy nostalgia, thank you so much man
Can't wait for the obligatory Pikmin 2 video cuz that's one of my favorite games of all time. I really like the caves, I know it puts less emphasis on the time management aspect of pikmin, but it adds a dungeon crawling element that I really love, and I think most of the floors are well designed. Yeah it has it's problems, but most of those come down to universal issues, rather than the design. Here are the things I'd like changed in an hd remaster:
@@lukeiannello6190
1.Could've sworn red's attack was nerfed from 1 to 2, whatever, I still think that Purples shouldn't stun and I forgot to add that I wanted purple to have x1 damage. They shouldn't stun, as either they'd need to not have it or it needs to be severely nerfed, with the time being nerfed, time between each stun being nerfed, and maybe even making all bosses immune to it. Again like I said, being worth 10 pikmin and homing in give them more than enough unique utility
2.I'm not sure if making pikmin into leaves and insta-killing leaves is a good idea either, as that means your army is just going to get insta-killed most of the time anyways. I think make the pikmin run around even more erratically would probably be best to buff elementals hazards, as right now they're just too easy to work around.
3. Yeah like I said this was the least necessary change, but I do think it would be a good one since the caves are very disconnected from the rest on the series at the moments

Well I got good news
Honestly one of the best aspects of this series is the music, it's genuinely up there with Legend Of Zelda with how good the music is. This series deserves more love.
The tracks also have variants depending on what you’re doing in the game. It’s so layered!!!
Meanwhile, smash bros devs
"ah yes, Envronmental noises"
@@Matoro-wp9hy Can't believe that they cut Ai No Uta from Ultimate. It's absolutely hilarious having this slow and kind of sad love song playing in the background of a fight.
I'm glad you have made a video about this classic
I figured that Steve would get referenced. What a trooper he is.
didn't he have a Facebook page?
why wasn't that the Squarespace ad?
1:07 This aged so well
Holy shit, one of my favorite content creators talking about my favorite franchise ever?
and has even similar opinions to mine?
bruh, this is legendary. i cannot wait for the next 2 games for you tall about.
it's honestly difficult finding people who enjoy this franchise, let alone don't think the time limits bad.
“Nintendo could’ve easily just remastered the first two games and released them alongside 3 on the switch,” aged well since all 3 are on switch now-
All 4*
At 1:09 how ironic, cause with Pikmin 4 coming NOW we have ports of the forst 2 games on Switch. Life's funny that way. XD
2:16
Let's also add that most Nintendo protagonists are as interesting as blank paper.
Olimar's an actual character with quirks, flaws and the like.
Fun fact: I always used Yellows as suicide bombers, like, every playthrough, especially against Emp. Bulborb. I'd use them sparingly, to get his health down, & make him swallow all the remaining bombrock carrying pikmin, just to see him go BOOM & cough up the part!
1:10 perhaps it wasn’t alongside Pikmin 3, but you got your wish
I properly picked up Pikmin 3 on switch about 4 months ago and I am glad I did, it is truly a unique experience and a good way to get hungry for some fruit!
Ah yes, Steve the Red Pikmin. The Legend himself
Also I love obscure and underrated games like this. I mean people know of them but don’t really talk about them. Similar to last years game “Bugsnax”, some of these games are hidden gems that need to be talked more about
Is bugsnax actually good? I saw it on gamepass and thought nothing of it
" Pikmen named Steve" didn't know you were a fan of Chuggaaconroy to!
I never managed to get even half of it before Olimar would just be reborn as a pikmin lmao
I got to play it recently once more, after many years without playing it and I managed to beat it with all 30 parts within like.. 26 days or so ? And I've never felt as accomplished in my life as I did that one day where I just sat down and ran the game in one go LMAO
I genuinely love this franchise and I'm so happy someone fINALLY SAID WHAT YOU SAID. THANK YOU XD
I love how the censors are just the whistles of the captains in the games
I can't wait for the full series of videos about this masterpiece of a series. Glad to see more people giving this series what it rightfully deserves.
BY FAR your best video EVER. I am a huge Pikmin fan who also loves your videos and I was not expecting this crossover. Please do 2 and 3/Deluxe next!!!
1:09 that went age well this date.
Okay, after the Purple Pikmin and Louie comments, I *NEED* to see you cover a Pikmin 2 review!
Would never expect a pikmin video from you, I can already feel this is special
5:21 and the best part is Nintendo (and Niantic to some degree) agree on that fact, you can name your Pikmin now in Bloom
6:25 “this game makes you feel like a master tactician” missed opportunity of having Claude from Three houses in this part.
Played this when I was like 5 and loved it. Hope the series gets more love
5:21 best part change my mind
And 1 year later HD versions are here!!!!!!
Pikimin is such a comfy and underappreciated series. Much love
“They could’ve easily rereleased 1 and 2 alongside Pikmin 3”
Better luck next increment
Pikmin 3 Deluxe cracking records for the series really warmed my heart last year, I hope these numbers make an impact on Pikmin’s future
Holding out for Pikmin 4 ✊😔
I love how so many of my favorite franchises were discovered because of Schaffrillas. From Pikmin to The Owl House to even one off movies like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. I love how he’s impacted my media taste, and discovering this definitely flawed, but also charming gameplay masterpiece was definitely worth it. Thank you Schaffrillas.
From the looks of it, Pikmin sort of sounds like the video game equivalent to the Martian, which honestly sounds pretty cool.
Weird how they sound pretty similar
Story wise yes
When pikmin 3 added a first person camera I almost cried. It was 99% of what I wanted, just to BE in that beautiful landscape. I'm a fan of all of them. But I grew up on pikmin 1 and got good enough that I had a system:
Grab 2-3 items per day. Spend the other time being a tourist
I loved pikmin 2's loot diversity, creature diversity, and the log book.
Olimar is able to defeat Sephiroth, this is the world we live in.
@@_-Lx-_ I wouldn’t change it for anything
*Que* *M.* *Bison* *"YES.* *YES!"* *On* *loop* *for* *the* *next* *100* *centuries*
The beginning part aged like fine wine
Schafrillas is a CANONICALLY a Chuggaaconroy viewer
I think Pikmin is the one game with a set timer that I wouldn't mind playing. Like, Majora's Mask is obviously a one-of-a-kind game, but I would personally feel pressured to do every single quest within the set time limit, or I wouldn't feel totally satisfied. Pikmin is more relaxed and whimsical, so it wouldn't feel like such a hassle to get everything done in a day
Omg I'm so happy rn! I didn't know you were into pikmin! Glad to have you repping pikmin.
Welp, we got the HD remake
Yes, thank you so much for this. I've seen lots of great videos praising Pikmin and breaking down its gameplay, but I rarely see people actually talk about Olimar's character, and how strong his characterization manages to be in the written text that most people don't give as much attention.
"Pikmin are not eslaved"...
"I dish out death sentence to those who truly deserve it"
THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT MY FAVORITE GAME SERIES. IT NEEDS WAY MORE LOVE!
I’ve only played pikmin 3 but I absolutely loved it
Edit: I have now played pikmin 1 and 2 and they are also amazing
Man I'm so glad someone else loves this franchise. I've got some really fond memories attached to this series (I even remember hypothisizing on new pikmin that would show up in pikmin 3 and actually called pink pikmin being the flying pikmin somehow). Thanks for bringing more attention to this gem of a series
1:10 Well guess what
Thank you so much for this video. My dad got me Pikmin 2 for my 10th birthday, and me and my sister played it religiously ever since. I'm glad to see another person who loves this franchise as much as I do.
Expected a longer video for such a massive Pikmin fan, but Schaff content is Schaff content. It's good no matter the length!
You wanna know what's also good no matter the length?
Those darn cute Pikmin bois the be putting in that work fr fr 💪
I just realized how dark Pikmin is
Pikmin was actually the first game I really went out of my way to 100% complete. I absolutely love the series.
Your Pikmin videos need more views. So good 😭
