My biggest problem with Smash Ultimate is that Bowser doesn't have his Mario Odyssey wedding suit as an outfit.
In Smash though Bowser loses most of his actual personality. He's treated as a Wild Animal, hence why he doesn't have his original voice actor and his design is more realistic in comparison to the rest of the Mario characters

I hate that they gave him the color of puke. His render looks alright, but his in-game default colors look awful! He's supposed to have yellow scales, not puke colored ones!
At least it's a step up from Melee, where he looks like literal feces. Like, actual turds.

I love how the central point of this video basically boils down to “it’s all Corrin’s fault”.
I disagree with the main point. yeah, corrin sucked, but if you count the clones, then fire emblem has 8 characters and mario, basically the hallmark francise of nintendo's, has 10. I get his point that it is all diffrent stories, but in the end, it is the third most rep. franchise and has middling sales to say the least. if we had other fan favorites like waluigi, geno, ect. and there were more characters for each francise, like 1 more, then I would be fine with fire emblem. If you are saying that they are echos, then you need to realize how long it takes to create animations. even so, 5 characters still is unbalanced when zelda has 5, despite it being, well, zelda

But one thing This is so stupid is because Corrin, is a Fire Emblem Character, and if Corrin’s the Enemy, and since Fire Emblem Fates is his debut, this means Fire Emblem’s The Enemy. Schaffrillas you’re trying to defend the Fire Emblem’s Reaction in Smash Bros not being on the shameless Bandwagon framing Fire Emblem.

I couldn't stand to relive his horendous strategic errors and the painfully black and white morality of the story.

If you look into the book of Revealation, it says that a dragon will appear in the End Times and cause strife on Earth, and the kicker is that Corrin can turn into a dragon. Coinsidense? I THINK NOT.

They're both Byleth (which is originally the name of a demon from the Ars Goetia) but one pronounces it with the original hard t and the other with the englishy way of saying "th". Makes setting them apart easier.

I don't know why they made his victory screens so bad, because his taunts are at least decent. He says things like "I've made my choice" or "Your fate is clear", and those work well enough. They could've done something similar with victory screens where he says (for example) "Your fate was decided from the beginning" or something like that. But no, we got "Good," "That went well," and the worst: "I win," because not only is it stupidly simple but he says it in the most annoying way possible.

The "Hoes Mad" image has been going around since Hero was added. It's just another shitty meme that's overstayed its welcome (but I did enjoy "Hoes Fatally Furious" when Terry was added)
Hoes Fatally Furious was the best incarnation of the meme, it should’ve died after that. But then Byleth happened and FE fans spammed it to high fucking heaven, and now it’s become one of the most unfunny and annoying Smash memes to date.

The sheer quantity of Fire Emblem characters actually had a reverse effect on me as in "If this franchise has this much characters, it probably has a giant legacy and great games"
well, its been around since 1990 and has over 17 games on its belt, and even the "bad ones" are only bad in the story department, as gameplay wise every fire emblem game is good at best and decent at worst (its a nintendo game after all).
the real problem is with the western audience, who think that the franchise doesnt have enough impact to justify their representation in smash, ignoring that BOTH Smash and Fire Emblem are japanese games, and in japan Fire Emblem is as important as Zelda, the only franchise that blows both of them out of the water in terms of popularity is Dragon Quest, but since its not a Nintendo game, shouldnt be compared with other franchises in terms of content in smash.

Fire Emblem isn't even remotely important or popular in Japan. The best selling pre-Awakening game was the first one that got localized, and even then, the series failed to break 1 million until Awakening. You're ignorant if you think FE was ever a major franchise of any kind in Japan prior to it nearly dying and getting Awakened with Awakening.

That honor belongs to Mystery of the Emblem, which sold _more than 700,000_ copies, which (while not Mario levels of cash bringer) is still a significantly high total of sales, especially considering that it's a Japan-only release. That game is exactly what truly placed Fire Emblem as a tactical RPG royalty in Japan, until Radiant Dawn almost killed it.

That's still MAD low (less than what Blazing and even Sacred Stones sold worldwide). Currently nowhere near enough to call it "popular" considering what the NES Final Fantasy Trio and the 1st Dragon Quest put out. "Niche" is the term you're looking for. It had a small following at best, and that's still roughly the case nowadays seeing as 3M sales pales in comparison BotW Switch selling into the 20Ms.

Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, despite only modest sales and (according to series creator Shozou Kaga) a lower critical reception than you'd expect, became seen as _the_ game that launched the tactical RPG genre in Japan, along with Sega's Shining Force series. As such, the series has often been credited as an influence, direct or not, towards games that would come after it but localized before it, such as Tactics Ogre, Disgaea, and Final Fantasy Tactics. Indeed, the genre would have been much more different than it is today were it not for Fire Emblem's success, as many gameplay elements that would become a normality today, up to and including permadeath, were codified by the series. I think another big reason Chrom wasn’t complained about was because he was revealed next to Dark Samus in the same direct as Simon/Richter AND King K Rool

Ah. Much better approach indeed. I hadn't realized this point until your comment. Revealing a slew of echo fighters at the same time is a much smarter approach if they do release more in the future. Make it like five -each from its own series - at the same time.

It's actually the only Fire Emblem soundtrack that I listen to outside of gameplay, the Conquest tracks especially because I love the European instruments used as somebody obsessed with Medieval Europe.

The problem with Corrin is that they have the personality of paste.
Like they say “I win!” And “Good.” when they win they have no character to speak of
For crying out loud, the silent protagonist has better personality than the Corn.
that's not a problem unique to corrin. most of the fire emblem reps have almost no personality. marth is like corrin if their story and character arc were actually well-written, roy is just a retread of marth (he doesn't have any of the same hotheaded personality traits he has in smash), robin is a self-insert, so that pretty much automatically damages their character since they have to be as relatable as possible, and byleth's total lack of characterization is literally a plotpoint in three houses. hell, i'd argue corrin's lack of character is more faithful to their original game than roy. people only like roy because sakurai gave him a personality, something he did not have in FE6. at least in smash, corrin is just bland and not actively hateable like they are in fates.

I actually love Fire Emblem Fates. And I still love Corrin. While it’s true Fates that a bad story, it had excellent gameplay between three versions and some beautiful art direction. I love all the details that is used to make Hoshido and Nohr feel unique.
15:45 The thing here is that in the japanese version Male Byleth is named Beret and Female Byleth is named Bereth (written as Bereto and Beresu, respectively) so they kinda had to split the presentation in order to show them both properly, then it comes as weird in the localized version of the trailer

@@ImmaLittlePip Nintendo said that the only reason why Corrin's in Smash, is because Fates sold very well in Japan. That and Nintendo thought it would be cool to add in a Fire Emblem Manakete, which are people that Turn into Dragons.

@Nobody comments are not funny you troglodyte I see the problem being more not the multiple playable characters added, since even the old sonic games were adding more characters to play as and they were fine, but the lack of polish or good gameplay. It probably would have been better to cut them if they couldn't make them play good but if they had made all of the characters unique and, what is most important, FUN it wouldn't have brought the series down. Though now the complaint of multiple characters being the problem isn't valid bc they've forced us to play as only sonic for so many games and the quality of those games are still questionable.

I mostly hate him for how gullible he was in Fire Emblem Fates. I've only been able to stomach the Birthright path and he straight up takes in someone who tried to kill him and survived, for the most part, by the leniency of his enemies. I've had that on my chest the past two years and I'm finally glad I got an excuse to say it.

Corrin not choosing a side adds more to his character than Byleth actually choosing a side since it shows Corrin does not want to hurt anyone or for their families to go to war. Byleth choosing a side seems to be more cold to his friends/students. Yeah you can recruit some of the students but others like Dimitri Edelgard or Claude(If you deny to spare him in BE route) have to be potentially wasted by Byleth. It just makes Byleth look like an asshole and hypocrite despite saying they "care" about their students. If there was ever a Revelations path in 3h then I would take my words back and eat them. But Byleth for me is a boring character who is there just to "pick a side" and watch the game progress.

Marth and Ike don't have this problem because they are very simple on the surface. Corrin and Byleth are not simple.
I agree with everything you’ve said here, except for the main issue in current FE’s representation. I think adding Corrin was fine, but I take serious issue with how they handled Awakening. As good of a hame as it was, it did *not* deserve three reps. Especially when it’s the only game to have more than one in this game.
It should’ve just been Chrom. If they wanted to add Robin or Lucina then they might as well go back and add Lilina from Binding Blade, since she served about as much purpose as those two did in their story.
I’d moreso compare Robin Chrom and Lucina to Hector Eliwood and Lyn. Lilina is relevant for the first 8 chapters, 7 of which have her offscreen, and then she can die with no real consequence.
Putting Chrom in as the Awakening rep would be like putting Spring Man in as the ARMS rep - just because he's the main character doesn't mean it's a good idea.
Robin offered a breath of fresh air from other FE characters, both aesthetically and mechanically. There's even a good contextual excuse to have him usurp Chrom's spot, since he's the POV character, and thus can be argued to be the "true" protagonist if you really wanted to. Lucina works as a fun "female Marth", as well being the only definitively female FE character in Smash. Chrom has nothing like that going for him, and would only be the best addition for hardcore fans of Awakening's story, which probably compromises a very small percentage of Smash's player base.

Robin arguably has more purpose in Awakenings plot than Chrom does, both as a hero AND a villain.
Lucina is more important than Lilina, easily.
The comparison to Hector, Eliwood and Lyn is somewhat apt:
*Eliwood and Robin:* Pivotal characters the plot revolve around.
*Hector and Chrom:* Sort of important in how they interact with said plot over the course of the game.
Robin and Chrom sort of switch the Eliwood and Hector roles at times.
*Lyn and Lucina:* Slightly less apt. Lucina actually has some real importance to the plot, while Lyn's only story relevance is in the invasion of Caelin (which is clearly only in the game to have you get Lyn back to begin with, because it makes no sense in the plot), past that, you could remove Lyn and FE7 pretty much stays the same.

Intelligents Systems had an idea for Fate to have three stories to appeal to everyone, but they realized that they didn't have enough writers. So they hired an outside writer, Shin Kibayashi was that writer. Nintendo wanted Shin to write the outline for each pathway, what happened instead is that Shin wrote 500 pages for each pathway.Intelligent Systems knew this was too long so they cut the story into pieces without the writers permission and the fact the Nintendo demanded Fates come on the Fire Emblem Anniversary only made things worse. Which resulted in this hilariously mess of a story. The good news this that there is a manga based on Fates that is a little better. Its called Fire Emblem If: the Crown of Niberlung.

As long as the character is fun to play, I’m all for it. I’ve never heard of basically any of the DLCs for Ultimate, except Steve. But damn if I don’t love playing as Sephiroth and Pyra/Mythra. Even if I never played their games.

I also personally am a fan of Fates, and because of this, I think that it's an overhated game. All he did when mentioning Fates is talk about how bad it is and how Corrin is basically a sinful scourge against not just Fire Emblem but humanity as a whole, which has all been echoed countless times by the many haters of this game. I mean, it's fine if you dislike the game, but I don't think it's as bad as people constantly say it is and if anything, his opinion of it only summarizes the general reception the game has received by so many
@@matthewkuscienko4616 also, fates is not really that bad of a game. i think most of the hate comes from the implications of the game rather than its actual content (namely, old fans were afraid FE would steer away from its roots and become a glorified dating sim). now that echoes and 3H put it back on track, people are more willing to see what it did right. the plot is still a mess of missed potential, and the characters are fun, but not that interesting with only a few exceptions, but it really shines in gameplay, especially in conquest. it took the gameplay of awakening and fine tuned it with better map design and a less overpowered, yet more reliable pair up system. we should also not forget what it did to armor knights, taking an infamously terrible class (most good armored units like oswin were good despite their class, not because of it) and giving it its own niche as a wall, both by nerfing HP and evasion and giving them the wary fighter skill, which mitigated their greatest weakness
I still find it funny that Byleth, a character that literally has an in-lore explanation for why they're a blank slate, still has more personality than Corrin, a character who is supposed to be the emotional crux of their story
Edit: I haven't played FE: Fates since its last DLC came out, so everything in the comments is valid criticism; there's some good stuff in there
Byleth is overhated. Sure, they aren’t the best 3h character, but they still do have some character traits, like being socially awkward, hating his Ashen Demon title, and his expressing emotions arc.
Corrin’s personality is being nice and that’s it.
I mean, Corrin spend most of his/her life isolated in a tower with nothing to worry or learn about the real world, so it kinda makes sense for him/her to be "innocent", but yeah, there are some times when Corrin is downright an idiot.
I don't know about this one, Byleth's in-lore explanation is just an excuse to pull a "Joker" in the game, a blank, almost silent protagonist who just talks when they need to be badass, and are also loved by everyone for no specific reason, while Corrin just has the last one of that characteristics and at least talks in their supports (which is the reason why people hate them please shut the fuck up Corrin)
Not only do I hate Corrin and Byleth but also their voices, “Perhaps I was too harsh on Smash 4 Fox” I didn’t think there could be anything worse than Smash 4 Fox.
I mean, there's also the fact that Jeralt is rather stoic himself, and Sitri was seemingly known to also have trouble expressing emotions, so it's a case of Byleth coming out as this ultra weirdo and they're left not knowing why and just going with the flow, while having to be brought back to live via pope shenanigans after being born, so they're this half zombie?
Imo, Byleth has some interesting things about them that can be looked into despite them being mostly silent. So saying that they're blank wouldn't really be correct, I feel. Just quiet, unnaturally quiet. I mean, FEH somewhat expands upon that. I love Byleth, but they aren't perfect, at all, but some things about them kind of fly over people's heads. Granted, it'd be more of the fault of Byleth being mostly silent.

Wait, you really can't bring yourself to finish Conquest because of the story? LMAO, just press the Start button to skip all the cutscenes and you'll have one of the best Fire Emblem games ever! Yes, the story is shit, but the map design is genuinely some of the best in the series. Unlike the other 3DS games, Conquest actually encourages clever tactics and careful preparation instead of just abusing things like Nosferatu, Galeforce, grinding, Double Lion, Hunter's Volley, Mila's Turnwheel, and Ryoma. You can skip a bad story, but you can't skip a bad map unless you have the Warp staff, which doesn't exist in Fates.

I thought the same, conquest in my opinion is a very fun, challenging game, it was my first fire emblem game and i was left very sattisfied gameplay wise, yes the story is pretty bad but nothing stopped me from ignoring the story, shame he'd have to analyse it to make a video out of it though cause after some time i couldn't take it seriously no more and started making jokes at it's expense, which was hilarious but it wasn't intended for me to start to imagine the king's body guard, who's name i don't remember so i just called izma like from the emperor's new groove, crying angrily screaming after corrin foils another one of his dastardly plans to show the king Corrin isn't loyal at all and laughing at it instead of taking it seriously and excitedly cheering for the heroine

So they hired an outside writer, Shin Kibayashi was that writer. Nintendo wanted Shin to write the outline for each pathway, what happened instead is that Shin wrote 500 pages for each pathway. Nintendo knew this was too long so they cut the story into pieces without the writers permission and the fact the Nintendo demanded Fates come on the Fire Emblem Anniversary only made things worse. Which resulted in this hilariously mess of a story. The good news this that there is a manga based on Fates that is a little better. Its called Fire Emblem If: the Crown of Niberlung.
Any game will be the best game ever once you remove all the bad parts of it. Saying a game is great if you remove a massive chunk of it doesn't really make sense.

The perfect FE character reveal would be Oliver just calling the entire Smash Roster ugly. Then suddenly he's stabbed with Alondite and Black Knight gets revealed
It would be a nice touch if he had a voiceclip from Monty Python and the Holy Grail saying, "'Tis but a scratch!" I know it isn't the same black knight, but it would still be funny.

You know, there's that nifty trick Fire Emblem veterans use to enjoy Conquest. It's called the start button, try using it ;-)
Praise Christ and His Apostles that I had the good sense to only watch a let's play of Conquest! My biggest gripe with his character was how stupid his decisions are, and it's the worst in Conquest (not seeing through Azura's "disquise", taking in Kaze, an ENEMY SOLDIER, etc.)

It’s funny because Starfox and Kirby had more reps in Brawl and Wolf was cut for unknown reasons.
My main problem has always been that the weapon triangle is so deep rooted into fire emblem, yet they keep choosing the uninteresting mcs with swords and not the infinitely more interesting side characters that have lances and axes and junk

I would've loved if Byleth played more like Pokemon Trainer in making you cycle through the 3 protagonists: one axe, one lance, one bow. That would've really changed the "anime sword person bad" feel imo

Ok but what about the fact that Corrin is genuinely fun, “from a gameplay perspective”. You talk of gameplay but ignore that Corrin is a unique FE rep and even lots of top players have added her to their roster of favorite characters at some point because of her play style.
This isn't a good point. Characters are more than just move sets, we can still incorporate good movesets while pulling from characters more deserving of spots. Corrin is an okay character but he doesn't really warrant a spot even if he's fun to play which is what he was getting at in the video
So this means that Piranha Plant is a good adition? It's a unique Mario rep and it's a fun character to play as, so does it deserve to enter the roster?

@@yuilinkmat9469 I dont see why Piranha Plant couldnt be a good addition. They're unexpected and dont really have a character but they're a staple enemy to the series much like the Koopas who are already kinda represented by Bowser and goombas who would be much harder to make work. Waluigi is mostly a meme character who doesnt have a whole lot of potential for moves outside of the sports games hes in.
@@autisonm you say that when fox is in the game where NONE of his moveset comes from him game, while a lot of inspiration for Waluigi can be drawn from those sports games as well as from other appearances. Heck, I don't need to prove it to you, his moveset in Smash Flash 2 is very inventive while still representing Waluigi at his core. Not to mention that Waluigi himself is quite iconic, having personality and charm (i mean, justlook at his two new renders, they're amazing). So yeah, I would say Waluigi is more than just a "meme" character.
I do agree that Piranha Plant is a good edition: he represents a staple of the mario series but beyond that is just fun, both for the players but also I imagine for the devs in terms of making the wacky littlee guy a quirky, creative moveset. I think him not being some huge character actually helps considering he was mainly an early purchase bonus for the game, so it doesn't mean that people who bought the game earlier are set apart by some highly requested character, but instead just get a little extra fun fellow which if you don't get in time, you aren't missing out on much. (unless you really want him where you can just buy him)

And also I still don’t get why people want him as a dlc when he already has a presence in the game as an assist trophy that also captures the energy and representation of Waluigi. Plus it fits with him being roster fodder and not having a predominant presence in the Mario franchise outside of the party games

That combined with using the Blade Specials as the Specials (har har) without Rex in the way I just think is a more interesting way to play them.

Honestly, "too many sword fighters" isn't a Smash bros issue, its a Fire emblem issue because Every single protagonist has a Sword, so Fire emblem needs a protagonist that is a Pure Axe or spear user
Ephraim in Sacred stones was a spear using protagonist, and Hector was an axe user main (although he can use a sword later) so it’s not that it doesn’t happen but it’s really rare when it shouldn’t be.

Smash is about bringing beloved characters together to see who comes out on top... Nobody knew Corrin when he/she were revealed and many FE3H fans preferred their house leader over Byleth.
Sword user or not, I think it's important to understand the fans. Despite how loud the crying was for Byleth's reveal, it wasn't as bad as when Corrin happened because a lot of fans got to enjoy and appreciate FE3H by that time so at least we appreciated the stage and music if not the fighter themselves.
