First Sakurai and now Akshon Esports. Uprising is getting so much attention and love right now and that's amazing. One of the games that impacted me the most growing up.
It should also be noted that this game was very hard to play for some left-handed players. There was a lefty mode, where you use the abxy buttons to move with your right hand, but movement was not as precise as if you were using a circle pad. Even with the control struggles, this is still one of the favorite games, period.
Just finished replaying the game. No literally, just before watching this. I played it when i was like 9 or so - turns out i put 100 hours into it, which was a lot for me back then. I was right to do so. The writing is hilariously simple yet layered, breaks the fourth wall in the best way possible - the characters are presented seamlessly and you fall in love with them immediately. The first mission opening with "Sorry to keep you waiting!" is sheer art, and speaking of, the 2d art is really well done. The story itself, while not being perfect, is very intelligent and is aware of its own elements, introducing things in the beginning and bringing them back around to the end. The music? Bro. They were cooking up some FIRE in that studio. 🔥 This game goes so hard.
With some 3DS games being ported to the switch like Luigis mansion, im hanging on to a thin thread of hope that Kid Icarus gets ported. Its the one 3DS game i spent roughly 200 almost 300 hours on it because i always took it with me on roadtrips
Uprising was my childhood game, I still remember getting siked out by the game when you kill medusa and you think its over, and then hades pulls up, and the eggplant wizards turning you into a walking eggplant, and the music was a blessing to the soul 😭😭😭😭
Aww man that Kid Icarus Tourney at NYC was a blast, Friends and I went from hey lets buy the game here to one of us making to the finals. There was so much chaos and fun just from the 1st round while in the 2nd round and finals totally different game with players rushing their perfered weapons and it felt so raw getting hit by many different weapons and when there was snipes an weapons with super armor i knew the game was gonna be wild. It sucks we know we cant get a remake but i think thats fine the game was amazing and very challenging as is so they should work on next game in the series can really blow everyone mind for slacking on this game series for so long
I can only imagine Hades saying "Well, where ELSE were we supposed to go?? The WiiU? HAH! That thing was DEAD already at that point. I should know that, because well, y'know..."
Uprising is a game that i, along with many others, REALLY wanted to see again in newer consoles with a better control scheme. And i wanna see palu again….
Great ass game. I started watching chuggaaconroy play through it and I immediately went to go play it myself. The story telling is amazing and the voice acting is actually not cringe
Man i loved this game. Played it so much i went through 2 3ds (well KI:R and the MonHun games). The multiplayer was addictive. The free for all was just that, pure fun and chaos. And Light vs Dark had a surprising amount of depth. The health that was taken from the team bar is based of off the dieing players weapon power. The stronger the weapon, the more team health lost. And the multiplayer is where all the weapons and types really got to shine. Every weapon played different, and had different strengths and properties. Always hoped to hear that there was some group out there keeping the game alive like the N1GP did for mmbn.
I really hope we can see a return of this game on the Switch, a bunch of franchises have been coming back. I know the possibility for the game to be ported or to get a sequel is extremely unlikely if not impossible, but I still have hope I am going to see this series again.
Considering games from the ds/3ds being ported to modern console like Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon and Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, it now seems more plosable than ever to be able to port games like Kid Icarus Uprising. I think given enough time, I think that most major or demanded games on the ds/3ds will eventually be ported or remastered on switch.
The fact they never made a sequel or remaster for the switch or even just release on the wii u like smash 4 is MIND BLOWING it could’ve worked soooo well after having uprising as such a unique game with a lot more depth and content than you’d expect. Although the way they used both screens of the 3ds was really smart.
This is like one of those obscure games but not so obscure games that basically nobody played but everyone who did, loves it deeply. That multiplayer went crazy hard.
Kid Icarus Uprising was the best 3DS game. It fully utilized everything the console had, even having the 3D be useful since distance is an important factor in a shooter which lead to me trying it and kinda liking it for the rail shooter segments. The best part about the game, the conversations, would infuriate me on any other console. On a single screen, you would either have disembodied voices constantly nattering or cardboard cut outs plastering over the gameplay.
I played this game as a kid. I didn't even know what kid icarus or who pit was at the time, I just thought the cover was pretty and asked my dad for it. Wasn't expecting this masterpiece and I'm glad it's exactly how I remembered it.
Uprising was everything Star Fox Assault wanted to be, and if it been a Wii/WiiU game instead of a 3DS game, we'd have seen another. Those controls werent enough to keep me from playing back then, but now?......oh god it hurts
It's is by far my favourite game on the 3ds and one of my favourite games of all time. Literally the only bad things about it are the fact that it is on the 3ds. None of the gameplay is bad in any way, even the difficulty gate on the weird moon stage that is hard as balls to get to I still consider fair and enjoyable. Let's all hope for a new game in the series as good as this one or even a port to the switch :)
Main reason why I wanted and got a 3ds other than Pokemon X and Y. I got the world edition and still play it to this day on occasion. Especially now that the 3ds shop has been discontinued, who knows when 3ds wifi support will end.
This was the first game I ever truly tried 100%-ing because it was so fun. Sakurai and the development team truly cracked the code for this game, keeps me coming back over and over again.
Kid Icarus Uprising was goated. I knew Pit because of Smash, I bought this game because "aww he's so cute! Might as well check this out" What I got was a game that had no business going as hard as it did, my goodness. The weapon and loadout systems were as perfect as you could possibly imagine, with never-ending variety. MULTIPLAYER in that game is more fun than Call of Duty could ever be in a million years
10/10 game, I had smaller hands so I could wield my 3ds comfortably and this game was just amazing. I got pandora claws with petrification (turns you into stone) and used those online and had so much fun.
The only downside to Sakurai making the game is he tends to really not like making sequels... glad to hear he at least wants it to be ported to Switch/a newer console though! An HD remake with a second analog stick would be LEGENDARY!
Kid Icarus Uprising is one of the games i decided to try out during the time i had access to GameFly i didn't go into detail of the game but i did play through the main story and i loved it maybe to some the game play might have been a problem but i didn't mind it the story was great and so were the characters and i cannot believe how amazing the graphics were i really hope there are more Kid Icarus games in the future preferably on a home console i didn't look to see if it was in the game but if Kid Icarus Uprising had the option to switch it to Japanese audio that would make it better
My favorite 3DS game and dare I say one of the greatest games ever made. Lovable characters, an engaging story that could be as easy or hard as you wanted, incredible soundtrack, and that Sakurai magic that makes its gameplay immaculate. The best online experience in any Nintendo game by far, a weapon fusion system I’ve been begging to be included in modern looter shooters for a decade, Dark Pit, the positives just go on. The only bad thing I can say about the game is the controls, and even then I never personally had a problem with them. It being on 3DS was perfect since I always had mine with me in high school and grinded for better Magnus clubs and needle palms. Once again you guys have amazing taste in games you cover. Keep up the great work.
I played precisely one match of the PVP and yes it was super fun and yes my hand totally hurt. Loved the dialogue and irreverence in the story. Super fun.
I used to play the hell out of this game, and would love to see it on the Switch or something. See how the controls could be reworked, and if something else were to be changed, maybe give people more control over weapon fusion so they could pick what would be passed to the new weapon.
Growing up with this game was such a blast, my brother and I would battle all the time and had a heated rivalry, me with my +run speed and dash attack raptor claws and him with his ungodly high damage stats on his halo club. I was racing around like sonic the goddamn hedgehog and hitting people with brutal drive-byes or slamming them with a melee combo. Claws already had the fastest base run speed, and raptor claws were I believe the second fastest among claws, so combine that with a hefty speed modifier and even lightweight, and you could cross the map in literal seconds. Plus, my favorite thing to do was melee dash attack people and knock them off the stage for an instant KO. 😂 It was so satisfying! For my brother, on the other hand, the halo club is a is unusual among clubs in that it had pretty quick charge speed, and it’s dash charge shot had crazy range, super fast projectile speed, and strong homing. It was supposed to be balanced by the fact that it had low damage for a club, but what happens when you get one with nearly maxed out damage stars? You get a weapon that can and will snipe you from across the map in the blink of an eye and delete half your health bar in a single hit! It felt like getting hit by a truck, and here’s a casual reminder that it had HOMING. Needless to say, I became VERY good at dodging. ;)
Uprising is my favorite 3DS game and a top 10 game of all time. I absolutely adore this game. Although I found the controls mostly fine and accepted screen limitations at the time, looking back it definitely wasn't ideal. As much as I like the Smash bros. games, every time Sakurai goes off-book and does something weird, I enjoy it even more. Kirby Air Ride is another misunderstood favorite. I sincerely hope he's teasing a Switch or Switch 2 port or sequel!
Kid Icarus would play really* well in other consoles, but saying that it was cursed by the 3DS is weird considering the fact that this game only* exists because of it. Uprising is a 3DS game first and a Kid Icarus game second.
Playing Icarus PVP on launch bustled strong even a year post-launch. What's overlooked is weapon power crafting as risk-reward in Light vs. Dark. A casual hops in with a simple weapon dying not hurting team much as a hardcore getting smoked costing their team more than a third. The game encourages crafting as your skill improves tackling up to 9.0, you open new weapons designated for grinding, budget, and PVP or straight up busted to grow and love. Hated staves, saw Lancer Staff made with +3 Homing, +6 Forward Charge among modifiers. My one-way ticket annihilating Black Club +3 Homing Charge shot Spammers at opposite ends the arena (and normal games). Or Upperdash Arm +6 Melee-Dash attack. Point black 400+ or finisher if it whiffs at 271. Crescent Palm my beloved grinding and casual with +3 Heart Bonus up to 22k longer lvs. Less OP, but stand ground firing and if a pickle or hard foe to hit, back-dash charge an in-place crescent to escape and double as a finisher. Thank you so much bring Icarus up
Sadly Uprising really does feel like one of those games that would be hard to bring over and translate into a home console release, they really did develop it with the 3DS specs in mind, but didn’t have the foresight that eventually the 3DS wouldn’t last forever. Plus even Sakurai said it would be very expensive to bring over to Switch and he needs the right team for the job, same thing has befallen Banjo & Kazooie Grant Kirkhope said there needs to be a right team for another Banjo game too.
When the console first came out I was still younger and couldn't afford it. The earliest 3DS games I recall were Dead or Alive Dimensions, Resident Evil Revelations, Code of Princess and Kid Icarus Uprising. I always wanted to play the game and pictured myself soaring through the heavenly air lol.
Myself and many others during the time of release would have competitive clan tournaments, though our ruling grew nuanced over time. Once the team health bar ran out and Pit/Dark Pit spawned, that game would be over. A few weapon+ability combinations eventually got banned too, though the main one was Eyetrack Orbitars + Energy Charge + Slipshot. It was too powerful on too many of the maps, and without the ability to select maps/counterpick, games became too much dependent on which map was selected with a combo like this. There was a lot of super interesting team synergies and plays you could do though, I hope for nothing more than a sequel or even a remaster with more developed features.
This game honestly was probably the best 3ds standalone game. Obviously some 64 ports were up there in quality but if we are talking exclusive to the 3ds it may have been my favorite

It should also be noted that this game was very hard to play for some left-handed players. There was a lefty mode, where you use the abxy buttons to move with your right hand, but movement was not as precise as if you were using a circle pad.
Even with the control struggles, this is still one of the favorite games, period.
This combination of video game essay and surprise e-sports analysis was amazing. One of the best videos I've seen on this channel
This game goes so hard.
The fact that this game hasn't been remade yet is proof that life is unfair.
Good news is there's an indie game called Owlboy, it's pacifically based on the original Kid Icarus.
I reaaaaaally wish for a new Kid Icarus game, but I'd take a Uprising port at any day
I need the sequel immediately!!!
Only a day after sakurais video, good timing
The fact they never made a sequel or remaster for the switch or even just release on the wii u like smash 4 is MIND BLOWING it could’ve worked soooo well after having uprising as such a unique game with a lot more depth and content than you’d expect. Although the way they used both screens of the 3ds was really smart.
I wish we get another Kid Icarus game like Uprising on a future Nintendo Console
This game was the reason i bought a 3ds. I put in so many hours. Really wish we could have a sequel soon
This is like one of those obscure games but not so obscure games that basically nobody played but everyone who did, loves it deeply. That multiplayer went crazy hard.
My favorite game of all time right here. Please, Lord let an HD port be real
Kid Icarus has a perfect score in so many aspects such as Story, Multiplayer, and Weapon Progression. Masterpiece may be understating it
I play KIU every now and then and always love how self aware they are with
ive been hoping for a port/remake for years and will continue to hope it gets made in my lifetime
Game deserves a HD port and a sequel.
the creator has said he won´t make sequel but i agree
@@denn7sSource: Trust me bro!
@@denn7s Good news is there's an indie game called Owlboy, it's pacifically based on the original Kid Icarus.
I played the hell out of Uprising and it's one of my favorite games. the lore, multiplayer, gun crafting were all fun as hell
so, we just gonna ignore that this was a massive commercial success in Japan? Okay then
The multiplayer is so much more in depth than it seems, glad you took time to talk about it
Easily one of my top 5 games of all time.
Eyetrack Orbitars with + homing and + range.
Those who know, know.
The PvP online multiplayer was sooo sick!
its the perfect 3ds game and i cant imagine playing it any other way. unless we get another more powerful dual screen system.
This game is so good, if it would come out on the Switch people would go crazy online saying how great it is
Kid Icarus Uprising was goated. I knew Pit because of Smash, I bought this game because "aww he's so cute! Might as well check this out"
What I got was a game that had no business going as hard as it did, my goodness. The weapon and loadout systems were as perfect as you could possibly imagine, with never-ending variety.
MULTIPLAYER in that game is more fun than Call of Duty could ever be in a million years
Subspecies, Bro WTF!? 0:19
We are upgraded yo.
Pit: gee, it's so cool to be back, am I right Lady Palutena?
Bayonetta: and I took that personally
holy shit dude i really miss this game, thank god i still have my copy of it.
Didn't know this was an esports title!
EDIT: i wrote this comment sarcastically, didn't expect the twist 12:25
10/10 game, I had smaller hands so I could wield my 3ds comfortably and this game was just amazing. I got pandora claws with petrification (turns you into stone) and used those online and had so much fun.
Yooo claw Mains roll out!
This and Metroid prime hunters are games that had cool multiplayer but are locked to old portables 😢
This game should seriously get a sequel or atleast a remake
I will always dream about a Kid Icarus PC port. I just NEED to see the sweats experiencing this game's crazy pvp.
5:32 not even joking, I literally got goosebumps watching this little montage you made. holy crap
The only downside to Sakurai making the game is he tends to really not like making sequels... glad to hear he at least wants it to be ported to Switch/a newer console though! An HD remake with a second analog stick would be LEGENDARY!
Sakurai just posted a video about the making of this game on his channel recently; good timing!
The timing of which this video was released, was amazing. It was released a day after sakurai's Video was released
Keep up the great work.
this game lives rent free in my head from elementary school, everything abt it was amazing, music, characters, story
I played precisely one match of the PVP and yes it was super fun and yes my hand totally hurt.
Loved the dialogue and irreverence in the story. Super fun.
Amazing timing! You dropped this video literally the day after Sakurai dropped a second video about Uprising on his channel!
I need this remastered on Switch with multiplayer included
Needless to say, I became VERY good at dodging. ;)
Uprising could very well be made for Switch.
The pointer is just like using the right analog trigger to control the camera in FPS/TPS games.
I'm astonished this hasn't gotten a sequel yet, easily on of the best 3ds games of all time
You sold me on Nintendo lore I missed out on
Playing Icarus PVP on launch bustled strong even a year post-launch.
Thank you so much bring Icarus up
love this game so much, really hoping they make one for the switch / switch 2 in the near future, complete with multiplayer 😌
This is actually my favorite 3DS game despite being one of the earliest ones that I got, I freaking loved it especially it's history mode
"I've never learned how to read " still gets me everytime.
Literally the best 3ds game I’ve ever played after Luigi’s mansion dark moon I enjoyed playing the multiplayer with the laser staff it was so much fun
How coincidental that this came out the day after Sakurai talked about the development of this game on his channel.
Actually wanted to play this game so badly but I already had bad wrist issues and just playing the first chapter made it obvious I wouldn't be able to finish it
Finally this game is being brought into light again! Thank you!
Kid Icarus is such a goofy game, and I’m all for it. I’m grabbing my switch when I get home and playing the original game!
I hope a remake or remaster of this game gets announced on the future!
played soooo much of the multiplayer when i was a kid i have fond memories of this game its amazing
It always blows my mind when someone tells me they never played this game, but did have a 3ds. Why Even have a 3ds?
