Modern Pirates | Menace On Africa Coast

- They assail drilling platforms with high-speed boats, seizing foreign nationals for future ransom negotiations. In 2015, a total of 73 such attacks occurred, leading to the abduction of 62 individuals. They represent the contemporary era of piracy, redefining kidnapping as a profitable enterprise, and viewing themselves as modern-day Robin Hood figures. Their primary targets are oil companies, which they accuse of exploiting the nation's natural resources without reciprocation. In this documentary, we followed soldiers, sailors, and pirates over several months, joining them on their raids to unveil their operational methods.
The guy being interviewed wraps it up nicely by say “you come to exploit but you don’t want to employ, this is why we do this”.
These people are not dumb,
Now I understand why they do it.... smh, they're being robbed and denied work? And we wonder why everyone hates us? I pray they fix this system .... great coverage

That French man & his cameramen were literally dicing w/ death because of their unpredictable conducts ( remember some were on alcohol & cocaine ). The rest of the crew like editors, a scriptwriter w/ one's researchers, a narrator, audio men, etc., they achieved a great job to enhance a wealth of thrill & excitement, & they were able to do so at the comfort of their studio in their own country, & that is a pivotal difference from the aforementioned men. The problem is that during this whole documentary he never pointed out the main problem which led/leads these pirates to do things like this in the first place -- which is corruption and instability started and funded by the Western colonies themselves. Actually he even ignored it, when the pirate himself pointed it out. Had they focused instead their investments on such countries to help them get back on their feet, there wouldn't be corruption of this level. That'd be the least they could do after colonizing and robbing these people.

Now here's the most beautiful love story: Me and you? Though we have fallen short of the glory of God by comitting just one sin which we deserve death and hell for, the Good News is that God loved us soo much that He, All-Powerful and All-Knowing Spirit came to earth in a human body as Jesus Christ, the fullness of God bodily, to live a perfect life keeping and fulfilling all laws and commandments, not sinning ONCE, and then sacrificing Himself on a cross for YOU! By shedding His Blood, He paid the penalty for your sin so that you could be washed clean from all sins and develop a personal relationship with God and spend eternity together with Him in Heaven. How awesome is that?! That's God's grace. All you have to do to accept His gift of grace is turn away from your sin and believe that Jesus is God, He shed His precious Blood for you and He is risen from the dead, He's in full control of your life that He rules over you. It's not by works or being a good person, it's only by God's grace through faith in Him. Jesus desires a personal relationship with you. Wow that is so incredible! What's more, most African bandits and African soldiers and warriors in general (the difference is often non-existent) often are under the effects of various narcotics before going into battle, often with the approval of their leaders (many of whom even provide the narcotics to their own men in order to give them courage in a fire-fight).

It’s their government that gets the money from the oil plants

They already paid their governments to have access to the oil. It's now up to the government to use those funds correctly.

The fact that the pirates themselves spell this out is astonishing.
I think this is the issue of corporations in general - the guys who climb to the top are the psychopaths who feel like they're omnipotent...and I think they get a perverted sense of power from exploiting others (employees, natural resources, other countries...). Helping a person or community diminishes this sense.
If this sounds too cynical - I worked for a retailer that was supposed to donate food before expiry to asylums for single mothers etc., but they didn't wanna do it as it seemed marginally more expensive than liquidating. because they are proud of what they doing. just like you would be proud of your normal job
This bozo keeps going back . He wants to die
@@henkstoomflat8840 By NO means that is NOT a normal job to be proud of But fortunately is a divine justice
i was wondering the same...and we are watching it for free.

Great documentary by professor. Can't blame these Robin Hoods. Corruption and greed is the root cause for all these conflicts.
Yet if these pirates took over they would do the same thing 😂

Great documentary…..The journalist has balls of steel!😳🤯 Very dangerous assignments he goes on….What is this man’s name? Respect, wow!!👌🏼🤩
He's not a journalist. He is French big business, helping to exploit 3rd world peoples...

Just because some governments call people pirates or terrorists does not mean they are.
These guys definitely are. Is their anger warranted? Probably. Are they pirates/terrorists? Indisputably they are, yes
@@noahhess4955 they're labeled pirates by their opposition it doesn't make them that 😂
@@JavierPacheco-yp4wr y'all are dumb they are literally definition of pirates

Good incomplete documentary. You have to tell the whole story in totality. The root cause of piracy, the Environmental, economical and health hazard impact on the community, the true beneficiary of the oil revenue and resources. Expatriate are well fed and the real owners of the oil are malnourished. So much injustice going on in this world. Show the true stories to those University students
Yes Tell them about evil tribal thinking corrupt african Leaders and politicans!!!!
I thought they covered a lot of that.
How right you are. He comes there twice a month to then tell future businessmen (thieves and murderers) that they must take into account the costs and risks of pirates. Great!
We all know it, they don't have to say it!!! Imperialism and Colonialism is why Nigeria is impoverished!!! England literally purchased the country for 850,000 pounds via a British trading company!!! Then changed the name from Egerew N-igerewen to Nigeria!!!
REPARATIONS FOR NIGERIA 👍🏿
Boohoo
I like this movies! These are the best of not the netflix.

These are not pirates these are coastguards
Wow, great documentary,i think these oil companies in Nigeria need to focus on the improving of the lifelihood of the communities where they operate from, employ the locals, build schools and hospitals, inprove water reticulation and all will be well
I think more than they they should probably give them their oil back, a rising tide needs to lift all boats, unfortunately its not as automatic as the proverb implies.
Their to hateful and greedy for that.
they don't have anything to do with the oilers though, they rob crate boats, not oil rigs lol
Výborný dokument 👍 mělo by se to přednášet ve všech školách. 👌 Obdivují vaší statečnost.
These "modern pirates" are a disgrace! They totally ignore the pirate dress code and not even have peg legs, eye patches and hooks instead of hands!

The filmmaker has brass balls. Excellent documentary.
The saddest part is that the hard workers in Piracy remain poor while the big bosses have mansions and bodyguards.

I'm not sure if this documentary was an act of bravery or stupidity... Or maybe a little of both... Either way, well done & very informative. I would say that 99% of the people who have watched this should be grateful for their living situation regardless of the circumstances!

This guy works for the oil companies for sure.
According to FSM religion pirates are endangered species vital to prevent global warming. So respect for Somali pirates, Aargh
A few minutes into watching this and now i almost cant blame the pirates. You own the oil yet benefit NOTHING!?
Same thing I said when I watched the one about Somali pirates
All of the governments in this region are corrupt. The politicians are the real pirates.
No reason to take the easy route and become a criminal
@@sternleiche Like how western countries steal resources from underdeveloped African nations and assassinate their leaders to further their own interests?

Much respect and big up ...... the way he stopped the guy interviewing him
I really enjoyed this documentary and i applaud you for taking all this years to complete it.
There are a few things that disturbed me though. The first one is labelling terror by religion. Nigerian pirates (militia) who control the narrow lakes, had crosses on their necks, a religious symbol, but i didn't hear you call them out by religion but when it came to somalia, you called them the 'Islamic'' militia (who control south of the country).
The second thing is that you tend to mention the impact of this piracy on the world's economy yet you interviewed Civilians, militants and tribal chiefs / leaders who view this activity non beneficial to their local economies and lives...and they also gave you reason why they do or support them ...yet there isn't an interview on your video where you question leaders or CEO's of this large companies.
It is apparent that this large companies do not benefit the local economies of this regions in any way so rather than talking about how piracy threatens the global economy, (something you strongly emphasised )...maybe focusing more on the cause, the the driving force, the negligence, the capitalism, the lack of jobs in this localities by this large corporations would have shed some light on how natives and governments of this rich oil countries are being exploited by the west.
On that oil Boat,160 expatriates work on board, On the guard boat, the commander is french , the captain is mexican (who mentions how high paying the job is...and that's why he is still there) the safety of all the expatriates is guarded by the Nigerian naval Forces (20..under a french man's command.). This is an example the disparity i am talking about.
..from watching this video, i cannot think or get convinced that tribal chiefs, militants and even the government is weak & corrupt as you imply...the government has no option ...this is Neo colonialism and by very powerful entities (whose business is protected by the UN and EU..and their powerful naval forces...) ..this is exploitation and economic discrimination and that the biggest problem that i think we should investigate first.
Definitely agree with you. I believe it is a lack of power the Nigerian government and people have against the huge oil companies and the western nations that protect and facilitate them which is the root cause of militias, corruption and poverty. Africa is the wealthiest continent in the world regarding natural resources - but why are most nations in Africa so poor? I think this documentary is just one of numerous examples of the modern day colonialism and exploitation taking place. Basically Western nations and companies stealing the wealth away from the people who have the right to it.
Western nations have the power to dictate who leads nations such as Nigeria and other African nations which then give them the power to change laws which facilitate exploitative companies using the nation as a HUGE cash grab. This then breeds corruption, which then breeds poverty, which then leads people to a life of crime (e.g these militia pirate groups) and the cycle continues. Its really disturbing how much of this actually goes on in Africa, and looking into it - its completely blatant and obvious but the broken system is so ingrained into these poor nations, it makes it almost impossible to escape it.
I would highly recommend a video by the Caspian Report titled "France secretly owns 14 countries". It is just another example of neo colonialism, with an unbiased view towards the daylight robbery happening in all too many African countries.
Yeah. I agree with you. Very well written. I also feel more enlightened and educated about the situation after reading this.
True words, no money is being ploughed back into the country.
The rich getting richer, the poor poorer... That's sadly, Africa...
I couldn't agree more
