The single most disgusting thing I've ever had someone do to me in pokemon was in a gen 3 match, after I trap killed something with dugtrio my opponent counter trapped me with their own dugtrio but instead of killing me they proceeded to use sand attack + substitute to get me to -6 accuracy, then used memento to get in gardevoir. Gardevoir has trace, so it traced my arena trap and continued to keep me locked in at -6 accuracy and -2 attack as they calm minded up to +6 and swept my whole team effortlessly

I ran Tera-Electric Empoleon on Showdown for a bit. No one expects their Water resist switch-in to get blasted by Elec-Tera Blast.
Such a competitive game that has rounds in high end tournaments decided by people tripping on electrical cords

@@usernametaken017 except that is a game developed in like 13 months (if I remember correctly) in 2001, where a competitive scene didn't exist, SV was developed (allegedly) in a few years and specifically coded to feature competitive

Edit: To add on to this, Dragapult has a lower Sp. Atk stat compared to Atk, so it usually runs surf *only* to proc Weakness Policy (it was a favourite partner of Steam Engine/Weakness Policy Coalossal)

2:37 I found a Tera Water Sap Sipper Farigiraf in an ingame raid once & almost lost because I brought a Grass type, so seeing someone else use it fills me with joy
I ran what I called “Fire Salt” which was gouging fire and garganacl
The specialty behind the duo: it was the gift event garganacl but changed the Tera to grass and the gouging fire was the usual burning bulwark and breaking swipe but decided to be extra petty and run fire spin and snarl on it. It was basically “the Blender from Temu”
Man thats vile......and genius. Specially in this meta Garganacl just counters Calyrex shadow well. I am gonna do that😂
Mybe with the return of Calyrex Shadow ma boy Garganacl can be somewhat usefull

I really kinda like what you put together here.... You didn't go extremely cheesy, but instead took some meta mons and added some uncommon tech to them.........

Playing against Japanese/Korean players with closed teamsheets is basically a death sentence

i think it's interesting how a closed teamsheet best of 1 set is so chaotic. i play singles and my main tier is gen 3 ou, which doesn't even have team preview and you have a preset lead, but (once you get high enough on the ladder to avoid people using random garbage) it's really fun. the information game is insane on the surface since every mon has infinite sets with mixed coverage, but an experienced player can pretty accurately guess the team and sets. it helps a lot that gen 3 is very well balanced and basically solved
I met a worm once. Tried covering it in sand and it ate it and regained health. I later found a gnome and killed it fast

For a competitive setting, open sheet is way more fun.

I haven't played competitive Pokémon since Gen 5 and this is the funnest goddamn team I've ever seen.
Perosnally closed team sheets feels more natural. I play yugooh and having some supprise tech options is always ideal and letting my opponent know everything i am doing is weird. Letting them figure things out outbof the best of 3 is better and lets players test each others deductions skills

I had to switch devices to answer the question I prefer closed I'm not like a serious player with competitive and I learn better by the facing with a bit of surprise I feel I remember how they wanna run better that way. But watching the competive debate channels like this one has sparked a desire to try and squeeze more out of pokemon besides shiny hunting so I decided with advice you give in videos to break through the wall with my teeth and learn a world of pokemon I'm still a baby in. Thank you for the advice you give in your other videos and explaining how people think because it may not be my best way of learning I'm still learning something

this is why closed sheet and best of 3 is the best. It makes some good for a cheese strat, but if it's not acctually good it won't help in the other two games.

Honestly, I hope this chaotic tournament doesn’t change. It’s the one place where batshit strategies can be used.
I enjoy the closed TS ladders for the fact that fun and creative teams have a better chance to shine but for the competitive scene where you're spending your time going to and playing the actual circuit for championship points I think open team sheets is a much better and healthier way to play the game.

I get that open team sheets is needed for tournaments where people who go later in the tournament have the advantage of knowing the strategies of people who went before, but the argument that people having unpredictable and possibly creative strategies is a problem seems silly. Like, everything being so centralized around a few pokemon and strategies is the biggest thing that keeps me away from competitive pokemon, and wanting to counter that by having no surprises (Again, beyond the necessary evil of preventing the above situation) feels like taking the fun out of things

Closed team sheets are nice for normal levels of niche strategies, but then people get way too niche to do anything slightly rational and then it ruins the game because it’s a game of psychology rather than a game of strategy
As a viewer closed team sheets is more fun because wow spicy tech! But as a player (I am not but i understand why) open is way better

I think close team sheets are very funny because it allows for more "original" and cheesy sets, but for offficial events open team sheets should 100% be the standard.

We've basically eliminated luck from competitive pokemon using OTS... except,
Move accuracy less than 100%,
Damage rolls,
Critical hits,
Paralyze and Confusion chances,
Any and all move's added effects based on luck,
Literally just bringing a team to a bad match up,
etc.

I really dislike open team sheets and how predictable they make the teams. I like crazy and wacky strats even if they sometimes come at my cost
Exactly you would have never had Pachurisu win a worlds with nuzzle if open team sheets were a thing. I prefer chaos over the same thing over and over where its the same pokemon over and over. They should have two formats like the tcg with standard and expanded. One open sheets and the other closed.
@@ericnieves5793 pachurisu would never won? man it's not like there's 5 other matches you need to win in order to actually get to the finals and info would've gotten around by then.
also not like it's best of 3 so if you get surprised 1st time, adapt 2nd time... anyway close team sheets will never be good for serious competitive because if you get annoyed at dying to crit then closed teams is worst. RNG is never good for serious matches.
as for random fun in not serious scenes, then sure make 2 different versions for players to choose, gamefreak will just not do any of that quality of life stuff, downgrade the next game, and bet everyone will buy. idc about creators buying because what will 30 creators contribute to the overall money...
My guess is that open teamsheets will be retracted after they see that the viewership is worse.
In my social Circle I am been told I “Professor Farnsworth” things, because I have a clear understanding of how the game is structured, but I still come up with some nonsense that just causes hypertension to those who fall victim to some of the things I’ve pulled off.
It’s not even fair to call Pokemon 18 Weeb Russian roulette, because the bullet and Turnnin to bubbles which birds through rocks that are dragons are just really whatever can be thought of, the creativity of this game is constantly evolving.
And I just think that’s neat .

I love using off meta surprise teams on ladder. Open team sheets would ruin this. How will I use my calm mind serperior when they know im not running contrary.
To the editor- the choice of "O Fortuna" during the imprison section was perfect.
I'm glad OTS has people benefitting from it, but it killed (in my eyes) the most fun part of the game; the information war, outright.

Im surprised no-one's tried Coil Zap Cannon Eelektross yet. I personally love accuracy boosting moves because they make a lot of strong moves a lot more consistent, but sadly, very few Pokemon get accuracy boosting moves. Gravity is an option on a support pokemon though.
As a filthy casual who just plays Pokemon for fun to unwind from work, this is the impression this video, and the channel as a whole, have left me with:
Competitive Pokemon is basically just people who hate things not being predictable. Every little aspect of your opponent's team must be laid out on an excel sheet or else it's not fun. Playing with the same cookie cutter pokemon as everyone else is the only way to reliably win, as everything has been min maxed and studied to remove as much variance as possible. The money at the end is all that matters so fun and creativity is a luxury that is not allowed at the top tiers.
