  • Here’s a review of the Cupra Born in V2 flavour, which is the mid-range variant (everyone else seems to have reviewed the top-spec V3 so far). Spoiler alert…it’s not bad!

This definitely look better than the ID3. I live in the States, and we're not scheduled to get the ID3, but that is the size car I'd prefer. Thanks for the video.

Cool looking car to be honest. Nice video!

I had all manner of AC and DC charging issues with mine and got rid. There is: “battery safeguarding technology” on these apparently- Cupra retailer solicitor said “your client is attempting to charge the Vehicle outside of peak hours for cost purposes, the Vehicle’s battery safeguarding technology protects the battery and charges at approximately 50% charge as the battery is not at the safe temperature.” I’m not clear if everyone knows this may mean (as in my case even in a closed integral garage) that 75/80% of home charges could be at only half 7kwh, ie just 3.5kwh.
This is the full item they quoted:
** VWG test data for comparison purposes. Actual charging times will vary depending on e.g. options, age, type, condition and temperature of charger/battery, charger usage & environmental factors. Charging time will be longer in cold weather or if battery safeguarding technology is activated.”

I've been considering one of these due to the forever rising fuel costs and Tesla prices are ridiculous atm. I currently own a 2019 Leon Cupra 290 which I daily and the wife has a Cupra Ateca 310. Currently £80 fuel gets me 250miles. I'd be looking to home charge the EV but with the new energy price cap in Oct I'm apprehensive to take the plunge.

Even with electric prices going up, it’ll still be cheaper to run than your petrol Cupras. Go and have a test drive!

How clear is the heads up display? I’m looking at the V2 specification as well.

      Hi Kevin, thanks for commenting!
The HU is pretty clear, I think the augmented reality is quite novel at first but then it is a bit limited after a while. If I had the V2 as my permanent car I’d probably switch it off, but that’s mainly because I think HUD’s are a bit gimmicky anyway…but that’s entirely my opinion and I know that some people love them.

I presume they are the standard 19” Typhoon wheels? Looking to spec a 77kw car and thinking of sticking with them instead of the 20” versions. They look good.

Yes Iain, the wheels on the car in the video are the standard 19in Typhoon alloys. They offer the best balance of ride, handling and looks IMO. The 20in wheels also look really good but will reduce the efficiency of the car by around 5-10%

@@carwaffle I’m also thinking of costs for 20” tyres when replacing them! Will go for 19” summer and prob 18” for winter (I live in Switzerland). Keep the car about 8 years and that reduced running costs quite a bit.

@@iain8837 that is a very prudent and logical approach!

I know what saying agree with your first thoughts it needs just that bit more would rather have EV6 and pay a bit more money to get that

    • @carwaffle
      @carwaffle  ปีที่แล้ว

The EV6 is a great car but sits in the size class above the Cupra Born, it’s not really fair to compare them against each other as they don’t directly compete for sales.

True sat in a ID3 and thought a bit cheap inside at least the Born better built and looks decent

As part of the company car scheme, for my level of position this is by far the only exciting EV available - granted if i was on the higher grading for our fleet plan i would lean towards Tesla M3

    • @carwaffle

Honestly having driven both, the Cupra is going to be more fun down a B road…the Tesla has very limited dynamic ability, that 0-60 time covers up an underdeveloped chassis with cheap suspension. You can tell the Born chassis has been setup by someone who cared. You won’t feel short changed by it I’m sure.
As an aside, if you did have the Model 3 on your choice list I’d probably point you towards the Polestar2 instead, which is a better daily driver in my opinion.

    Does it also recognise Android?

Yes it does, although android auto is still wired rather than wireless.
