lol Interesting that Tal and I have made the same mistake. Only difference is I make that mistake in the current position on the board, rather than visualizing 10 moves in the future.
Like the joke about the child predator who takes the child into the forest, and says "you think YOU'RE scared? I'm going to have to leave these woods ALONE!"
@@medexamtoolscom well it's nothing like that at all really. It's about giving your opponent obscure positions to deal with hoping they crack under the pressure and time pressure and play a bad move as opposed to rape and murder
One time Agadmator wanted to buy an very old house. But he was scared, because he heard, that there should be ghosts in the house. So he asked the owner, if there were ghosts. The owner answered: no, I already live 500 years in this house. But I haven't seen any ghosts in this house.
I love Tal!! 1. I love the passage from the book, the hallucination over the board; Tal is always a human being first. He never stopped being a human, a humble poet, a servant of art, whatever his standing in the chess pantheon. 2. I love at 9:33 hearing you say " Tal doesn't want to risk it". Doesn't want to risk drawing with three pawn islands against 4 pawn islands and doubled c pawns! The category "what Tal considered a risk" is one of those wonders of the world which endeared him to chess fans forever. I watch this series as if we don't yet know the result of the 1960 championship. Thank you.
#suggestion I would really enjoy if you made Kasparov's path to world champion like you did with Tal. I really enjoyed this series (I still do) and I would truly want to see more of the similar player 'paths' like this one. Well I'm old enough that that one I followed in real time ! 😁 No internet at the time, and no cable TV with so many channels that you would have had a chance to have a transmission of chess match on it, but that now forgotten feature on TV that was teletext, and they managed to fit a chess board in ascii art inside !
Tal hallucinated over the board... I very much appreciate both players for really fighting it out in every game and not looking for easy draws. Many thanks for this great analysis!
Tal was seeing ghosts in this game. That’s ironic. Usually it’s Tal’s opponents are the ones seeing the ghosts. The magician from Riga is my favorite chess player. 😃
Beautifully explained as always agadmator, "hallucinating over the board" haha!!...Can you imagine the pressure the players were under,...it's the world title, the slightest slip and you lose, nowhere to hide on a chessboard!
Your comment about reaching move 38 and not being able to see everything is notable. Fischer said he used his advantage in physical and mental endurance to win many of his games. He simply stayed more mentally alert and "in the game" because of his superior endurance. This won him many games throughout his career.
even i was hallucinating while watching, i even paused the video n was wondering how in the seven heavens it is a checkmate with the black knight protecting the h7, i felt like tal for a moment there 😂
In those day, if the game is continue from last position on next day, then if players agreed on draw.. then would next game start on the same day or on next day??
If a game was adjourned it would take place the next day in most cases. Although I once adjourned a game for dinner. The rule in the 60s was something such as 5 hours or 6 I forget or 40 moves whichever was first. Then the player to move had to make a sealed move that only he or she knew. The adjudicator or director would keep the envelope until the game was resumed. Some very great games arose because of adjournment analysis. It was also possible even with all the time to overlook a move which I did once missing a move that was not a direct threat but enabled me to win a Queen and then there was a fork which won my Q and I was material up...I had more material but I lost. My opponent was a young woman at our club (int he 80s).
He explains shortly after that Tal was mistaken and thought the black knight was actually a white knight in this position. One of the events Agad said tal was 'seeing ghosts on the board'.

The funny thing is that if for some reason Botvinnik had the same idea and did the "checkmate", Tal would probably take the Queen precisely with the black knight that was "defending" it.
it's kind of a bummer that it took massive engines to change some of the opening theory. kinda wish some genius had just come along.. oh well. is there nothing left to really discover in chess?
Tal was actually incredibly humble for admitting his bad calculations. Nothing was stopping him from never even mentioning that, however he still told the truth.
Kasparov for Tal- he was the only one I knew who didn't calculate the variants, he saw them. An ordinary man has to calculate, to think this through, but he just see it all. It occurs in great musicians, great scientists. Tal was absolutely unique.
he explained that he says "tall was hallucinating over the board." so tall thought that the knight in g5 was white, despite the fact that it is black. also that's why the title is "The Impossible Checkmate!? ". I dont understand how you didnt get it
How lucky are we to live in the age of internet and agadmator? Being able to enjoy high quality chess with background informations and dry humour... Canˋt get any better.
At 14:25 knight to f4 would've been better for tal. White will either lose both queen and knight or get check mate...or if g2 pawn moves to g3, black night can move to e6 with an attack on white queen, also guarding the g7 pawn. Plus the discovered attack on white's knight. White queen can obviously take a pawn but still i think a queen, a knight and bishop can stop a passed pawn easily. I may be wrong. Bdw i love your introduction i.e " Hello everyone!!"

11:39 Can't black play Bxd5, Qc8+, Bg8, cxd4 and the game can continue?
The problem is that after Bxd5 white can simply take the bishop c4xd5 unlocking his double pawn structure and could be in better position.
After cxd5, Qe3+, Kh1 and Qf2. The only reasonable defense is h3 and you get Qxf1+ and black is up a piece.
So Bxd5, cxd5, Qe3+, Kh1 and black has no follow up but what about Bxd5, cxd5, Nf3+, Kh1, Qxh2# (so that won't be played) or Nf3+, gxf3, Qg5+, Kh1 and black has no follow up ok I see now
@Tsubakura cxd5, Qe3+, Kh1, Qf2, White has Qc8+ leading to checkmate for white.
Tsubakura and black gets checkmated because white wont play h3, instead white will play Qc8+
