If you feel uncomfortable or concerned, while listening to this song, then Tuomas did well. Because one of the reasons, he wrote this song is that he doesn't have to kill himself in real life. But rather in a song. He was so depressed about the situation after kicking out the first singer (Tarja) from the band. The final part of the song is about his parents, who helped him out of depression and helped him get a new, fresh start with the band. And the rest is now history, as they say. Here they are, better than ever and happier than they ever been as a band.
This is the first reaction I’ve seen where the creator actually realizes that’s not Floor at the beginning, but a choir boy. Thank you! Drives me nuts!
That's hilarious. The other reactors you've seen must be complete morons then. It's instantly obvious and self-evident that it's a child from the throat qualities. I guess they can be entertaining even if their IQ is below 70.
Ikr - I even heard one say Floor seems more comfortable in her lower register. What a dimwit - Floor is equally comfortable in whatever damn register she likes!
This reaction is a shining example of how you don't always need the back story for this song. While it may have had a more emotional impact knowing the story behind the song, if you understand the music, then the music will tell the story for you. You picked up on the themes and the emotions in the song very well.
Been with Nightwish since start 1996. This is really really diffycult song to analyze and review, even if have English subtitles and without the backstory, 99,9% Impossible! You my Lady, were spot on 💝. It was really pleasure, see and hear Your analysis! Hit the 0,01% and Flawless work. Instant SUB, for Your channel! I've seen hundreds of reactions to The Poet and The Pendulum! Heard this song even meny meny, more times! Thank You! Lot's of Love from Finland! ❤
"God created music and said it was good......" "He then created Nightwish and said it was great....." Then he created Floor Jansen and he dropped the mic..... For he had created perfection..."
In regards to what Empuu is saying to Tuomas, in this case he is making sure Tuomas is ok. This is a difficult song for Tuomas as is pertains to his theoretical suicide. Long back story.
I'd like to remind that these are both Finnish men, from Karelia no less. Chances for what you described are so slim you'd have to look at it through microscope, asking "are you ok?" is not something we do in eastern Finland unless you're dying even if it's a good friend, he'll tell you if shits bad.
@@kookoo9235 I think it was support more than asking if he was okay.. He wasn't at the time and it's well documented.. Mm. it took me a few listens to realise Tomasz made this as a personal piece. I'm too tired to express full feelings, but nyeh.
@@kookoo9235 I've tried to find out where this "they go to him to show support" -thing comes from, and I haven't found anything official by the band, just youtube comments getting a life of their own. I saw a fan in the comments of some video of this interpreting (not claiming it to be a fact) the moment as a gesture of support, then someone else commenting that on some other video, then some youtuber new to NW reading that comment on a video, taking it as the truth and then the viewers taking it as the truth and so on. So basically a game of telephone, though I can see why people would believe it to be true. But as you said, it would feel very un-finnish of them to make a "performance" out of their personal feelings (well, aside from the entire song itself...). There is a strong social norm in finland to avoid showing strong emotional reactions in public and to keep your problems to yourself, especially if you are a man from smaller cities or rural areas, where the attitudes are more conservative. So yeah, it feels quite unlike they would express their worry or compassion etc. on stage over something that happened over a decade ago, even if it was something as heavy as what happened.
🎵Be still my son, you’re home....🎵 Like a dagger to the heart, every single time I hear it. God damn.... And seeing both Marco and Emppu go to Tuomas at the end... chills.
Usually I really dislike poet & the pendulum reactions when people don't research the song & meaning behind it either before or afterwards, but I absolutely loved your reaction. So genuine and you really do know what you're talking about, very refreshing to watch. I see you already got 'educated" about the meaning behind the song, it's truly heart-wrenching and I honestly always tear up while listening to it, Tuomas singing his heart out at the end is too much for me lol. Such a hard song to perform, I'm so grateful they still have this song in most of their setlists though, it's a true masterpiece, thank you for your reaction! ♥
Oh, thank you so much for your kind response. Yes, indeed, I was educated AFTER the fact on the meaning behind the song and cannot tell you how much I appreciated not being flamed by Nightwish fans for being so ill prepared! I have learned a lot (during this process of making these reaction videos) about different artist's fan bases. Metal fans have proven to be the nicest, warmest and most open to civil dialogue by far. Even when I have shared my honest opinion that was opposite of what metal fans obviously feel OR not been as informed about the material I'm reviewing, they are open to talking to me. Not one death threat! I cannot say the same about every artist I've reviewed, sadly. And do you know something? It makes me want to know more about the bands they love! It makes me respect the metal bands even more because of the intelligent, engaging and lively human beings who love them! Amazing what kindness opens your heart up to. It is such a joy to hear from you today, Denise. Thank you again for this wonderful comment and for taking your valuable time to write to me. Tuomas' talent slays me. The more I learn from fans like yourself, the more impressed I become. 😘
Late to the party I am, as usual, but reading your comment reminded me that I need to thank you so f*cking much for the subtitled Beste Zangers videos on your channel! :-) The format of this show was completely new to me and a real eye-opener. I came there because of Floor, obviously, but had to stay for the rest as well. I especially liked that there was no competition between the singers at all, just a nice and friendly get-together of a bunch of friends in a cozy, intimate environment with a glass of wine on the table and everyone chatting a bit while enjoying music. The Dutch producers really did a heck of a job with that one. :-) At first I was a bit confused because there was nobody else but the singers, no audience, even the band in the background was mostly set in a dim light, but what really caught me was that there was no "vote" at the end, not phone call-in crap or anything like that. Just the "focus person" on the sofa getting to decide whose performance they liked best, and then everyone got up, toasted each other with a glass of wine, and that's it. I was so flashed by this that I had to watch 3 or even 4 episodes in one go. I really liked how everyone went out of their way to do something special for each other, with Henk even stepping far out of his comfort zone by going full distortion as an opera singer.Long story short, kudos and many many thanks to you, because that was the first live TV show in literally a decade that I enjoyed watching. :-))
yep i often think metal fans are more peaceful and loving than hippies we just look a little rough around the edges. a lot of metal songs sing about standing up for yourself, being who you are no matter what others think or are anti violence, its odd because on the outside looking in the way some of the bands sing and the fans dress make us look dangerous. there is still the old belief that rock and metal are the devils music but honestly i have never met nicer people than metal lovers, i guess having such deep songs to understand gives us empathy and the ability to hear and discuss deep song meanings gives us the ability to see others points of view and disagree without being argumentative. in the end i think we love our music no matter what genre of metal it is and we love to share it with others
Yea nearly all "vocal coach" reactions I've seen think it's Floor. A few regular reactors have called it though. My favorite was a guy that said "Is that a catholic schoolboy?"
The fun fact is that Floor offered to sing intro, but Tuomas wanted boy voice to stay, so she did outro, which really isn't so far away from that. She really is vocal chameleon.
I'm no vocal coach or singer, not even musician, yet I could tell as soon as he started singing first time, and I'd only heard nightwish with floor once before.
Yes Floor is lucky to have this gig BUT Nightwish is lucky to have her too maybe even more so. She is ridiculously gifted. Thomas & Floor are a match made in musical heaven. As others have stated, please react to the Beste Zangers show.
Yes, it was kind of a metaphorical suicide for Tuomas, avoiding him to commit it for real. He wrote it after their first singer was fired, and he was held for the only responsible by many people. He was hated for that, and had difficulties to cope with it. He asks not to have certain parts of the lyrics in his earplugs doing it live, because it's to hard for him to hear. Emppu and Marko gather around him at the very end to show their support. And the words sang by Floor in the last part are from Tuomas's parents at that time
I've struggled with suicidal ideation in the past myself, so the idea of killing yourself in a song so you don't actually do it in real life... As dark as it is, it's also a very beautiful thing to me. It was Tuomas's own unique way of coping with his mental health struggles.
I'm just stunned to read this and appreciate so much you educating me. I often rush to film these videos with very little prep (obviously). Thanks for extending grace to me for what might be considered my glib reaction. I took it strictly as an artistic expression with a dark storyline. Never in my wildest imaginings would I believe it to be about THAT. I can so relate to being criticized to the point where you are so heartsick that you just want it to end. Especially if you are an empathic artist who feels a sense of duty to your fans. It is gutting. I think in some ways, everyone can relate to feeling this way. And the lyrics from his parents at the end? Gah...I'm off to go and have a good cry now. Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking time to comment. I'm completely undone. ♥️
Oh, to me, your reaction to that song is amongst the best existing until now ! You get the feelings and the emotions so well, just by listening and watching, without being aware of the story !! Really happy if i can help you understand even more, it's my pleasure :-)
Eric LE NOUY Agreed! Of all the reactions I've seen to this masterpiece, very few pic up on the death, which makes it even more enjoyable to watch this one. Most people think the boy in the beginning is Floor and miss the deeper meanings completely so this was refreshing. I'd love to see more reactions to Nightwish, there are so many truly great songs in their repertoire. Please and thank you? :)
@@daliden surgery could have been for any number of reasons, not necessarily to repair damage from his career. I too reacted similarly to the OP here cuz i feel like if you're a vocal coach, your reaction shouldn't be "ooo screaming bad, DON'T DO IT" it should be "there are healthy ways to do it, i advise caution attempting to do it without learning how to do it without damaging your voice."
In 2005 Nightwish fired their Singer Tarja who was and had been with the band since the beginning and was an icon in Finland, After the firing Tuomas and the band received many threating and harsh letters and emails, mostlt directed at Tuomas, This sent him spiraling into depression so dark that he was contemplating suicide, until Tony Kakko the singer for Sonata Arctica and Tuomas's childhood friend along with Marco and Emppu convinced him the world would be worst off without him, and his music, and please just put your thoughts into writing a song about this. Hence "Poet and The Pendelum" The last part called Mama and papa are acrualy words his parents spoke to him during this time. They very rarely play this song live, due to the emotional impact on Tuomas, when they do Tuomas has front of house sound tech turn off the vocals in his in ear monitors and only music, at the end Marco and Emppu go and stand next to their friend and brother to provide their love and support. Find the lyrics and read them and you will understaand more.
Thanks for your reaction. I am a senior citizen, a musician, and have been fortunate to go to many great concerts in my lifetime. But seeing Nightwish in concert in 2015 and 2018, was definitely among the highlights. I look forward to seeing them in 2020 when they probably will be on tour after their new upcoming album. They are amazing in person and Floor is so brilliant and versatile. .In this particular selection, is one where it is often helpful to know the story line ahead of time. But you certainly picked up on the themes and you “got it.” Like many of us, you might like it even more after you find out what it was about. The info is readily available, and I can see that some of the other commenters are mentioning it. When Empuu and Marco walk towards Tuomas in this, It is a sign of support, because he finds this piece difficult to play in person. It has gotten less difficult over the years, but they actually don’t perform it live very often.
Thank You very much!. That song. Deep and Dark roller coaster ride to Genius mind of Tuomas Holopainen. In those day,'s Heavy drinking, depression dark suicidal thought's. Tuomas chose life. ❤
it occurs to me that this would make a great school English project, the way we used to read poems and have to try to explain that the writer meant by the poetry. it would be great to see someone watch the lyric video to this song with no backstory and try to explain what happened to Toumas in the song and then get to read what the song was actually about after and compare. it is amazing that with no backstory you have picked out the importance of this piece and realise that there is an important story being told even if you dont quite know what it is. i like that about your reaction you actually paid attention to the mood and lighting and the video in the background as well as what was sang and spoken and came to the accurate realisation that this song is like a play that tells a story.
Thanks for letting me...in my bumbling fashion. I did not want to come off as flippant. Even with this darker subject matter, I see them walking in their glory as the fine musicians they are. There is joy in that space and it is so beautiful. Wonderful to hear from you, Kyle. 💖
@@TheVoiceLoveCo You mentioned being interested in their rehearsal process and how it all comes together. So if you ever have the free time, there's a free documentary here on YT called 'Please Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours' that I'd recommend. It documents the process of Floor joining the band, and is quite fun and insightful. In many ways Floor joining saved the band and gave them a second wind during a tumultuous time.
I'm so glad Nightwish are getting all this recognition since getting Floor Jansen in the band. Tuomas Holopainen is my music idol in terms of composition and his attitude. If you watch him in an interview, he just has this aura about him and he sticks to his own inspiration rather than let popularity dictate what he should do. I love how he can change the arrangements during songs, the timing, one Nightwish song can have about three or four different movements each with their own texture & feel, they can veer off into completely different places and have multiple choruses.. His Scrooge album is full on soundtrack music and his other recent project 'Auri' with his wife singing, that does some beautiful stuff i've never heard before. Genius! His work deserves all of this.
I can't listen to this song without getting tears in my eyes, but what gets me the most is that incredibly soft and timid "Thank you" at the very end. Always love your reactions Christi, thank you again for this one!
The impressive thing is, in the interlude, when the voice whispers "Now I only have three minutes and counting" is the exact moment, there are only three minutes, until the final fall of the pendulum at 13.38. That's how much meticulous dedication Tuomas puts into his work. His artwork.
I am so very impressed with your reaction. Without knowing anything about the story behind the song, you have recognised ALL of the facets that make this such a very important song in the lore of Nightwish. Tuomas commits artisticl suicide in this song, and you have recognised the death, the child and the fact that it is a (Dark Passion) play. I am also so very impressed that you are the only 'so-called' vocal coach who has recognised that the opening passage is sung by a 9yo choirboy. Floor adds the necessary emotion to convey the angst that Tuomas must be feeling when this song is performed. Both Emppu and Marco offer supportive solace to him during the performance, and it always kills me when the camera briefly catches him singing 'try to save them all' in the final section. The lyrics in that last section are the words his parents said to him at the time. Thank you SO very much for this excellent and intuitive reaction.
Hello Christi, thank you for that reaction. To make things clear - in this video Tuomas (the keyboarder and mastermind behind Nightwish) turns his emotional side outside. It's about the situation after the dismissal of the first singer and the reactions of the fans. He became depressed and played with the idea of taking his own life. But then he decided (thank God) to process these emotions in a piece of music. This was written according to the pendulum of Edgar Allan Poe and in my eyes it is an absolute masterpiece of modern music history. In this piece the vocals are usually filtered out on his monitors, because it still takes him emotionally to play this piece. That's why it is performed very rarely. The musicians (especially Emppu, the guitarist) are always looking for the closeness to Tuomas to support him. Don't worry about the interruptions - others are even worse. And it should also show reactions, who wants to enjoy the song in one piece, should choose another video.
About this piece - not my words, but well put: @Paul Doerwang: Story: A "dark passion play" concerning a young man (the poet "Tuomas") helplessly being tortured to death (thus the metaphors: Poe's "The Pit And the Pendulum" & the crucified "2nd robber to the right of Christ")...longing for and finding relief/release. Written due to Tuomas's deep distress after the band's public firing of schoolmate and original singer Tarja Turunen in '05, and the widespread blame he took for it. @Ann Waychoff: Tuomas took the brunt of the anger by the fans, media and even the Prime Minister of Finland stepped in. On top of that he was grieving from the loss of his friend and bandmate. The whole band wanted to let her go and signed the letter. Like I said Tuomas was the one who took the blame. Some of those lines were what his Mother said. Tuomas still feels the emotions from then. He will have the techs stop the words from coming over his ear buds. Then when Marko and Emppu go stand by Tuomas it is in support. They were the only two in the band when it happened. This song will probably never be sung live again. It was a loss. I hope that helps you understand the emotion of the song. Also, love your videos and don't mind either way w.r.t. pausing vs. talking over it. Guess the best idea would be to mix both approaches based on the length of the statement you want to make?
When I came to Nightwish knowing nothing, the lovely, wonderful Ann taught me all about this amazing band. Now you honor me by quoting me alongside of her. Kiitos :)
When you get a chance watch the whole "end of a era" concert, the last show with the original singer Tarja Turunen, which the band hit out of the park by the way, then realize that the letter firing her was in Tuomas's back pocket, to be handed to her on her flight home. While this was a unanimous decision by the band with a lot of built up drama, while watching the concert you can see the tension "leak" out once in awhile, they performed one of their best shows, to go out with a high note, The fan base was NOT happy with this, it did not help that the second singer struggled to perform all the earlier songs and while a great singer in her own right, with songs written for her capabilities she cracked under the pressure even with Marco "helping" she was not capable of the earlier music. She failed to turn up (medical reason was given) and the other bands on the tour covered the concert in Denver 2012 (see the Denver Debacle th-cam.com/video/zH33rNy33iU/w-d-xo.html ) Floor was actually brought in to finish the last tour with only 48 hours to learn the set list, this was made permanent. Floor's presence in the band healed a stain in the band and the fan base as it was alienated so long ago. Looking back on it, the fan base was not really fair to Annette Olzon or Tuomas for the changes in the band
It's not only what's in that mans mind, but how to put it into music with so much emotion, and have a band that can understand and play it the way they do. I think this is something that only rarely happens maybe every century once. We are so lucky to embrace it in our lifetime.
You have to see her videos from the Beste Zangers show from the Netherlands. She has sung songs from 4 different genres and made them her own. She has sung in 4 different languages. This show has 7 different singers from the Netherlands. They sing a song to each other that they have sung or mean something to them. Last week they sang songs to Floor. The singer who is being sung to sits on the center couch with the MC. Even if you don't react it is really amazing to watch. Denise Hofs is translating the shows and putting them on her channel. I think you will find it interesting because of the variety of singers. Floor is not well known in her country because she sings metal. The looks on the other singers faces are priceless. I think after this the country will know Floor. Tuomas is a genius......... :-)
You need to watch Floor's performances on Beste Zangers. She sings Vilja leid in German, Mama in Dutch, Qué Se Siente in Spanish. Tonight she will sing another song and there are two more shows past this one that she will sing in. *spelling correction
@@donaldcampbell9483 It's originally a salsa song, and it's about a break up. You wouldn't guess from the up-beat, sunny sound of the original, but that's salsa for you I think. 'Que se siente' means 'how does it feel'.
The next step is to do The Greatest Show on Earth by them... You want to see what a masterpiece sounds like and Nightwish has many, this is just another level in my books!
@@TheVoiceLoveCo And Phantom of the Opera duet with their first singer, Tarja! :) If you want to hear her as well, that's a great song to start with and Marco is excellent in it! :)))
@@TheVoiceLoveCo for the islander I actually prefer the music video to the live version. Might be a minority on that, but for som reason the changes they did on the live version fell flat for me.
I´ve heard of them long time ago when they first started. But i was a hippie raveparty kid back then and metal wasnt cool. Just started to actually listen to them this year. What a treasure! I´m compleatly blown away by this band. Thank you for reacting to this peace. I like you and 2 other voiceteachers reactions. I started crying in the end of this song. Beautyful. LOVE FROM SWEDEN
This was the best reaction to this masterpiece from someone who was not aware of the story behind it. Amazing! This is my favorite song, for all the reasons you can think of. Big kiss from Portugal.
I love Nightwish and of course Flor. I've watched many different reaction videos. What I like most about yours is that you're appreciative approach to all aspects of the show. The musicians, the graphic production and most importantly, your joy about the vocals without going overboard with the criticism or mimicking the notes as if you're somehow better. Most of the others do that. Your appreciation was well received by me. Thank you for that and please stay that way. Humility can be sexy.
With all due respect to the people who doesn't want interruptions in the song , I think this format is more organic as if a thought pops in your mind you can immediately blurt it out. You don't need to wait for the end of the song and may also forget a lot of what you want to say. This type of reaction feels more natural. Edit: You should hear Marco(bassist) in their other songs. He shines in Ever Dream and Phantom of the Opera (cover).
I stumbled onto your channel today! I really appreciate your reactions to Nightwish. You are a joy to listen to! ☺️ I will be listening to your other reactions as well! 😉
"Can you imagine what it would be like to sing with this band?" Hell, I'd be content popping up twice per show to play the triangle. Lol. I'm a bassist, but I can't sing like Marco. Great reaction, btw. Even without knowing the backstory, you still felt the emotion.
Marko is the oldest 🐱👤 He was in a eighties hair metalband called TAROT, but he alsoo does a mean Phantom of the Opera together with Tarja Turunen with Nightwish 👀😍👍
What is amazing is the band was on tour when their singer took ill and Floor learned the set list in 2 days showed up and killed it the rest is HISTORY!❤
definitely one the best reactions to this ive seen. So nice to hear someone step back from Floor, just for a moment and recognise what an amazing musical unit Nightwish are. And i agree, that as fortunate as Nightwish are to have Floor as their vocalist, Floor is equally fortunate to have Nightwish provide such a glorious canvas for her voice
You have a very wonderful description of what is going on in Nightwish. You truly are a fan. Thanks for reacting to Nightwish. The Nightwish army is with you.
Very perceptive take on the song for a first listen. You noticed the boy soprano at the beginning - a lot of people think it's Floor. The operatic bit in the middle of the song was actually done by a boy on the album, but Floor took that on herself.
Tuomas also writes orchestral music, not jut "symphonic metal". He makes orchestral adaptations of Nightwish songs and he co-wrote a movie called "Imaginaerum " and of course composed the film score. It's a beautiful movie, visually stunning. The main character is some kind of "alter ego" of himself called Thomas Whitman (Thomas/Tuomas, Whitman as the poet), an old musician and former rock star with dementia trapped inside an imaginary world, trying to recconect with his daughter. th-cam.com/video/7Tn_ZgUmUTU/w-d-xo.html And about Floor being lucky... yes, she is, but that also goes the other way. Imagine how lucky Tuomas is having such a talented singer in the band. He knows she can sing everything he writes. The previous singer was an excellent pop singer and was great on the records, but live she struggled to reach the higher notes or deliver a good performance on the older songs written for the first singer Tarja. I mean no disrespect, but sometimes it was painful to watch on live concerts. She obviously wasn't comfortable while Floor always seems to have a good time and makes everything look so easy.
Love this comment! I will look into the movie! That makes me so happy. Yes, the band is incredibly fortunate to have someone as capable as Floor. She is an amazing vocalist AND performer. The entire combination is sublime. Love it! Thanks for taking the time to write to me today! 🌟
@@TheVoiceLoveCo thanks for reaction..and I would add only for you also to watch interview of Floor Jansen she gave to Face Culture channel here on TH-cam...you wil have insight of how intelligent she is
Yes, Floor does look like she is having a great time and I am sure she is. She puts facial and body expressions into her performance, more than many singers i have witnessed.

This is a masterpiece, and Floor gave it everything it needed, emotion, tenderness, power... you should check Floor's performances in the show Beste Zangers, see how different she sings there
I like what you said about vocal “color”. That’s something I’ve mentioned before and really appreciate about Floor’s singing. She sings with the full spectrum and can so subtly flavor everything she sings with such nuance. I’ve never heard anybody who can sing with as much breadth as she does. Possibly Billie Holliday did, but I can’t think of anybody else.
Floor is taking part in a Dutch singing show, Beste Zangers and her latest performance, as with all four of the performances on the show so far, brought me and the people watching her live to tears. See Floor in a totally different light. please check it out. Floor is a Godess.
On her talent. She was asked to step in and finish their tour after letting their vocalist go. She had around 48 hrs to learn the set list. There is a documentary on that , but wrap your head around that. Then she does so well they offer her the job full time. She's very impressive. Who else does that?
I saw them at a pretty small venue, and while i didnt hear this song or The Greatest Show on Earth, they were just stunningly amazing. Floor is a powerhouse and the whole room just resonates with the music and its awesome Edit: I also love the fact that, because the whole performance and band as a whole is so strong, its impossible NOT to talk about everything and not just the singer and their technique :D
Hi Christy, i am half way to watch this reaction again🙂🙂 It is the reaction of a singer and you did great! I would love to see a second reaction from you now you know Nightwish better and with thesubtitles and pauses at better moments. I hope you will consider this idea!
I've never enjoyed a video with this many pauses before, this was an excellent reaction, one of my favs for sure. I appreciated the cut & edited analysis of your comments as you went along so not to lose the momentum of the song too much.
I was really hoping and waiting for your next nightwish reaction video!! You truly understand what they're doing, you see the tiniest details right away and you explain them. Wow! IMO, you have one of the best reaction channel out there :) thank you!!
Well people, take this video as an example of a perfect reaction. Firstly she knows her stuff (no it is not Floor at the beginning it is a choir boy as she detected at once). Secondly respect the artists which she does. Thirdly *feel* the music and don't get lost in technicalities but still explain the technicalities. Fourthly don't forget to pause but do it tastefully and don't complain you /have/ to pause. Lastly have fun. Bravo Christi!
Having been at this gig. This song started an 55 minute emotional rollercoaster, where they also played Ghost Love Score and finish The Greatest Show on Earth (plus a few shorter songs in between each one). This is a difficult song for Tuomas (the keyboardist), hence Emppu's (the guitarist) reaction to it and talking to him.
I very much appreciate you saying that Floor is lucky to score such a gig. It shows how much you appreciate every single member of the band. their ability to make amazing music. 😁 Thank you thank you thank you.
Tuomas has written several scores for Finnish films. He also wrote "Kiss While Your Lips Are Still Red", which was featured in The Lord Of The Rings. Tolkien is one of his key influences, along with Edgar Allen Poe.
I appreciate and enjoy your professional and personal insights regarding the compositions. To paraphrase 'old Rose' Nightwish is a ocean deep and full of secrets.

While it may have had a more emotional impact knowing the story behind the song, if you understand the music, then the music will tell the story for you. You picked up on the themes and the emotions in the song very well.
Thanks for this comment. It encourages me greatly. I appreciate the time you took to leave this feedback. 💖

Thank you.
Can confirm.
Damn, your's is the perfect comment. Well done sir
In regards to what Empuu is saying to Tuomas, in this case he is making sure Tuomas is ok. This is a difficult song for Tuomas as is pertains to his theoretical suicide.
Long back story.
That is also why all of them go close to him on the end of the song. Showing support and making sure he is ok.
The song is a masterpiece but also tells a very sad and hard time for Toumas.
🎵Be still my son, you’re home....🎵
Like a dagger to the heart, every single time I hear it.
The Voice Love Co. You’ve got death threats from fans of other singers?? What the hell??
Lekker nummer he denise😜
Late to the party I am, as usual, but reading your comment reminded me that I need to thank you so f*cking much for the subtitled Beste Zangers videos on your channel! :-)
The format of this show was completely new to me and a real eye-opener. :-)
At first I was a bit confused because there was nobody else but the singers, no audience, even the band in the background was mostly set in a dim light, but what really caught me was that there was no "vote" at the end, not phone call-in crap or anything like that.
I knew I'd like your analysis as soon as you picked up that it's a boy soprano's voice at the beginning of the song.
yeah how many vocal coaches can't even tell that, it's insane ^^
I have seen only two, maybe three maximum. Good job from her..👍Shows professionalism.
The greatest show on earth should be next on the list! Very overwhelming as well with music and visuals!
You are a sweetheart, truly. Thank you!♥️
Eric LE NOUY Agreed! :)
Marco Hietala has been singing professionally for almost 40 years now, he knows how to scream without hurting his voice...
Well, maybe nowadays he does. He did have to have a surgery on his vocal chords that almost cost him his voice...
I think they're one of the most talented bands in the world right now. In any genre.
Thanks for your reaction. I am a senior citizen, a musician, and have been fortunate to go to many great concerts in my lifetime. But seeing Nightwish in concert in 2015 and 2018,
was definitely among the highlights.
Can't go wrong with Nightwish. The final piece of this song still gives me chills even after listening to it since it came out.
Thank You very much!. That song. Deep and Dark roller coaster ride to Genius mind of Tuomas Holopainen. In those day,'s Heavy drinking, depression dark suicidal thought's. Tuomas chose life. ❤

This song makes so much more sense when you know the backstory and read the lyrics! It is a masterpiece!
The deepest song ever created...in my darkest days it plays in loop all day...
it occurs to me that this would make a great school English project, the way we used to read poems and have to try to explain that the writer meant by the poetry. it would be great to see someone watch the lyric video to this song with no backstory and try to explain what happened to Toumas in the song and then get to read what the song was actually about after and compare. it is amazing that with no backstory you have picked out the importance of this piece and realise that there is an important story being told even if you dont quite know what it is. i like that about your reaction you actually paid attention to the mood and lighting and the video in the background as well as what was sang and spoken and came to the accurate realisation that this song is like a play that tells a story.
Wow, what a gift on a Saturday morning! This song is...kind of a lot, so thank you for going on the journey with us!
Music is subjective and people like who they like. But there is nobody like Floor Jansen.
Genius! His work deserves all of this.
agreed!! Tuomas is a compositional genius.
Nightwish live @ tampere The Greatest Show On Earth in Tampere is the biggest rollercoster in music hystory!!!
I can't listen to this song without getting tears in my eyes, but what gets me the most is that incredibly soft and timid "Thank you" at the very end. Always love your reactions Christi, thank you again for this one!
Such a great reaction to a masterpiece!
More Nightwish is definitely in order!
🤘🏻🤘🏻🍿🔥🍿🤘🏻🤘🏻
I, so, appreciate your reactions to Nightwish! Thank You!
If I'm listening to Nightwish I have tears in my eyes.
Thank you for the reaction! I loved it! Greetings from Finland :)
The impressive thing is, in the interlude, when the voice whispers "Now I only have three minutes and counting" is the exact moment, there are only three minutes, until the final fall of the pendulum at 13.38.
That's how much meticulous dedication Tuomas puts into his work. His artwork.
Amazing!!!! 😍
Great to see professional get so excited about a song and performance.
Thank YOU for this very kind comment. Your encouragement means so much to me. Blessings, sir. 💖
Julia Nixon noticed it too.
My thoughts exactly, Grey.
That vocal bit at the end there, always somehow brought whale songs to my mind. Something so pure and natural, and mournful, and... just there.
About this piece - not my words, but well put:
@Paul Doerwang:
Story: A "dark passion play" concerning a young man (the poet "Tuomas") helplessly being tortured to death (thus the metaphors: Poe's "The Pit And the Pendulum" & the crucified "2nd robber to the right of Christ")...longing for and finding relief/release. Written due to Tuomas's deep distress after the band's public firing of schoolmate and original singer Tarja Turunen in '05, and the widespread blame he took for it.
@Ann Waychoff:
Tuomas took the brunt of the anger by the fans, media and even the Prime Minister of Finland stepped in.
"Shallow" broke iTunes in Netherlands in just one day!
@@DannCM18 Isn't that incredible..... :-)

Tonight she will sing another song and there are two more shows past this one that she will sing in.

In the last episode of this season, she will be doing a duet with Henk Poort, they will be doing Phantom of the Opera.
Vilja Lied*
next week , she will do the song from movie "A star is born" , Shallow ........ , with her voice it will be epic !!!!!
I have no idea what she is saying in that Spanish song but she sounds amazing!
If you want to hear more Marco's (base player) vocals without distorsion then you should listen "Íslander" and "While your lips are still red".

Honestly I feel he’s saying something like “man, she’s nailing it again!” And Tuomas just smiles and nods lol
"sounds like a child singing" HOLY CRAP someone got it!
9/10 reactions I've seen think that's Floor.

"now i only have 3 minutes and counting..." - gets me every.time...
Thank you for granting my request coach 🙏
It was an honor and a pleasure, Vic. Thank you!💖
Very perceptive take on the song for a first listen.
The main character is some kind of "alter ego" of himself called Thomas Whitman (Thomas/Tuomas, Whitman as the poet), an old musician and former rock star with dementia trapped inside an imaginary world, trying to recconect with his daughter. th-cam.com/video/7Tn_ZgUmUTU/w-d-xo.html
And about Floor being lucky... yes, she is, but that also goes the other way.

Beautifully said. ♥️Love that!
Possibly Billie Holliday did, but I can’t think of anybody else.
love your reactions as always Christi
This song makes me tear up every time I listen to it

On her talent. She was asked to step in and finish their tour after letting their vocalist go. She had around 48 hrs to learn the set list. There is a documentary on that , but wrap your head around that. Then she does so well they offer her the job full time. She's very impressive. Who else does that?
if you thought this was epic try the greatest show on earth at tampere 2015
I saw them at a pretty small venue, and while i didnt hear this song or The Greatest Show on Earth, they were just stunningly amazing. Floor is a powerhouse and the whole room just resonates with the music and its awesome Edit: I also love the fact that, because the whole performance and band as a whole is so strong, its impossible NOT to talk about everything and not just the singer and their technique :D
Hi Christy, i am half way to watch this reaction again🙂🙂
It is the reaction of a singer and you did great!
I would love to see a second reaction from you now you know Nightwish better and with thesubtitles and pauses at better moments.
I hope you will consider this idea!
When Floor joined Nightwish, they became the perfect storm.
I cry almost every time.
Marko and Emppu standing by Tuomas at end is most beautiful moment.
Great reaction! As people already said, you picked up on everything important in this song. Nightwish is going on a tour in 2020. so stay tuned :)
I've never enjoyed a video with this many pauses before, this was an excellent reaction, one of my favs for sure. I appreciated the cut & edited analysis of your comments as you went along so not to lose the momentum of the song too much.
I cry every time I watch this video.
i am amazed rhat a lady like you has an idea of good music...........
I was really hoping and waiting for your next nightwish reaction video!! You truly understand what they're doing, you see the tiniest details right away and you explain them. Wow! IMO, you have one of the best reaction channel out there :) thank you!!
Thanks for the reaction, EPIC song 🤘🤘
It works two ways. Floor is lucky to sing with a band like Nightwish, BUT ,the band is lucky to have a singer like Floor.
Thank you for a great and interesting reaction to a magnificent performance by Nightwish 😃🙌🏻
The Greatest Show On Earth live in Tempre is definitely worth a listen. So much going on in this video. Definitely one of their best!
Very good analysis. Thanks.
I love seeing adult serious professionals got all out fangirl on Nightwish :D
You can scream/growl with out hurting your voice as long as it’s it done correctly
This, a true scream hurts your voice but that's not how you use it in music. If you scream like a true scream yeah you'll destroy your voice.
You've had your Nights Wish now you've been FLOORED.
Check out Romanticide and Phantom og the opera(with original svinger Tarja, from 2005), to hear more of the bassist Marko signing.
I very much appreciate you saying that Floor is lucky to score such a gig. It shows how much you appreciate every single member of the band. their ability to make amazing music. 😁 Thank you thank you thank you.
amazing band ! love you. Love from Portugal
Ty for appreciating nightwish , they get a lot of react but yours is a good one
Tuomas has written several scores for Finnish films. He also wrote "Kiss While Your Lips Are Still Red", which was featured in The Lord Of The Rings. Tolkien is one of his key influences, along with Edgar Allen Poe.
Great reaction to a great song. Thanks.
Yes. I always thought the film visuals we're just incredible in this performance... The pendulums and especially the waves
I appreciate and enjoy your professional and personal insights regarding the compositions. To paraphrase 'old Rose' Nightwish is a ocean deep and full of secrets.
Thank you so very much. What a poetic sentiment. So very lovely. So very true. ♥️
You are very beautiful women! Thanks for this reaction!
I think Emppu say,,,,,,,,, Tuomas Lauri Johannes Holopainen, never stop writing this epic songs!!
I think you are RIGHT!!! 😍
