It's bubbling to perfection in the oven at my home right now. I used my Dear Mom's glass dish to bake it in. She went home to Heaven 16 years ago today! Rest well CLMN!
My mom used to make it in that glass dish too! I lost her last year. I used to make it years ago. Now in my older age I am alone, no family, spouse in the house anymore. Haven't seen anyone due to the pandemic. I think we are almost all vaccinated. Looks like there is tamale pie in the near future. Stay safe!
Whoda thunk when she was with you that her glass dish would someday become one of your most prized possessions? She's watching you from above creating delicious meals for your family in that dish and smiling! I 🙏🌫
Your spice profile was right on. I just made this and doubled it in a deep 13x9. I used 2 jiffys and 2 cans of cream corn. It took approximately 15-20 min longer, so like 45 or so. It turned out great. 🔥👍
Pretty close to what I do. I just add a can of Rotel and black beads to the ground beef and cut the water back to maybe a quarter cup. 9 x 13 for about 40 minutes. Perfect!
You heard her telling you how to make it. Did you want her to be silently cooking not really telling you how? My My! You are the unnecessary chit chatter.😶
Many many years ago, I was a young wife, I went a friend's party and she made this for her buffet along with other great food. All us friends asked for the recipe and it was the party staple for years. She added black beans, used Jiffy mix, and we loved it. Best version ever! Made this for Thanksgiving, and everyone went wild for it. The creamed corn really takes it over the top for sure. It pairs up perfectly with the sweetness of the sugar, and the heat from the jalapenos. I like that there is a bottom layer of tamale also (not all recipes call for this). Kicks it up to an extra level of comfort, and I topped with a drizzle of red enchilada sauce along with the sour cream and green onions.
I tried it this evening, my husband loved it! Thanks! I added black beans and diced tomatoes and chilies. I also used pickled jalapenos instead of fresh ones.
I made this last night and added tomato, corn and olives to the filling. I also used real onion and garlic instead of the powdered stuff. It was so freaking goooooood!!

I made this the other day and it was soooo good! I wanted to use a 13×9 baking dish and so I doubled everything. For the corn bread, I mixed one box of jiffy with the ingredients listed on the box. I added one teaspoon of oil, one can of creamed corn and one half cup of shredded cheese. This was for the bottom crust. I repeated this for the top crust. I did have to cook it about twelve minutes longer. I also cooked the ground beef with a small diced onion. Next time, I think I will mix corn in with the beef. My family loved this!!

When my family, and I lived out in California, this was one of our best meals, and for some reason dinner would be around 6, or 7pm, but since we moved to Texas it seems most people eat different, and dinner time is a different time, which is called supper here. Watching this video really brought back memories, now I must fix it.😋😋
Now I know what’s for supper tomorrow. I love Tamale Pie!! My son wanted Spanish Rice with ground beef the other night and I was out of rice so I substituted Fideo noodles (I’m still eating off my stash of clearance 5cent bags) browning the noodles with the beef. I might not ever use rice again, it was so delicious! But, what do I call it??? Thank you for continuing to share your wonderful (and delicious) recipes with us. I'm trying to find a 9x13 type and was thinking of doubling it. Is that what you did with the measurements?? I know she brought us to the chicken one but..it's quite different so I was looking for anyone who'd just doubled it.
Well I made this dish vegan and my family lost their minds! I used Awesome Grounds and made my usual egg/dairy free corn bread. It was delicious, and we had enough leftover for a second lighter snack. There are four of us so you know we ate heartily. I feared it might bake up dry with the double crust but it didn’t. Everyone added their favorite toppers and instead of cheese I mixed a few tablespoons of nutritional yeast and extra water to the meat mixture for the cheesy flavor. (Lots of flexibility is necessary in this time of quarantine). . My vegan version looked exactly like your video. Loved it! Thanks. 👍
I'd forgotten all about tamale pie. I used to love this as a kid. Adding a box of Jiffy to my shopping order for next week. Lord help me. As an adult, I can probably eat a whole pan in two days.
I have ingredients on my counter to make your homemade chorizo, and wondered what I should make with the rest of my ground beef - now I know! Thank you for this!

I have not made this in a very long time! Now I am seriously salivating and ready to make a batch! (I like flavor without a lot of heat, too, so I generally substitute a can of chopped green chiles for anything that calls for jalapeños!). Thank you for this .
back in the early 90's My Friend Jeff invited me to a large bbq event just outside of New Orleans. They had cooks from all over Louisiana Texas Alabama and Mississippi. There was a lady there who was grilling steaks with baked beans and this wonder cornbread that she called Mexican cornbread. she had print out of the recipe that she was giving out to anyone asking for it. I have been making this years now. Only difference is the amount of Chilli powder it calls for 1 table spoon I use 3. and 1 of ground cumin. Its always a hit with my Family and Friends.
You popped up in my recommended videos just when I was trying to figure out what to do different with the ground beef I took out of the freezer. For one recipe, I added 1 and 1/2 pounds of ground beef, then I doubled the recipe (because we love leftovers.) It was gone the next day. I also didn't have canned cream corn, so I put some frozen sweet corn from the freezer in a food processor with some water and a little bit of sugar. It came out great. My family loved it! We already love sweet cornbread, tacos, and cheese, so this was a perfect combination. Your ratios were great, I just knew my husband would want a little extra meat. I can't wait to try your other recipes.
I've been making tamale pie for nearly 50 years. THIS is the way I make it now. Love it!

I made it and it was so good!!!!! WOW!!! thanks!
I'd forgotten all about tamale pie. I used to love this as a kid. Adding a box of Jiffy to my shopping order for next week. Lord help me. As an adult, I can probably eat a whole pan in two days.
Yeah James. Me too. Good “eatin”.
2 days!? i alone eat half for lunch n half for dinner!!!
I forgot about it too. Back in the day I used to make it. Single now. Too much and too many carbs for one person now.
@@adc2327 you can freeze left overs in a freezer bag or freezer safe bowl
@@kristinsmith4375 Yes! Good idea! Make individual portions.
I have ingredients on my counter to make your homemade chorizo, and wondered what I should make with the rest of my ground beef - now I know! Thank you for this!
I’m definitely giving this a try - it looks delish. It kind of reminds me of a Bisquick Impossible pie. TFS

Looks great the closes thing to moms i've seen this with a bowl of beans yummy
I have not made this in a very long time! Now I am seriously salivating and ready to make a batch! (I like flavor without a lot of heat, too, so I generally substitute a can of chopped green chiles for anything that calls for jalapeños!). Thank you for this .
Looks so delicious thanks so much for sharing
I just made it. I loved it!!!! Thank you for the recipe!!! ❤️❤️❤️🥰
back in the early 90's My Friend Jeff invited me to a large bbq event just outside of New Orleans.
Do you use beef bouillon?
Ian Roth, are three TBSP chile, and one TBSP of cumin powder, overwhelming to the taste buds.
I made this following your recipe, it was so delicious! Thank you!
