The Airport Manager and the staff did a thorough check and the Airport manager said it best, they are not going to continue to punish someone for something that happened over 13 years ago. rehabilitation proved to be successful. Would of course be a different story if the person was a harden criminal or a repeat offender that will not integrate well with any good society. They were on their honeymoon. Everyone needs compassion and empathy now and again otherwise we would all go savage.

To us the linguistic differentiation might seem silly but there will be some people that don't understand and of course those that use that as an excuse.

Now it's down to just one open pack (i.e. the ones you had in your pocket when you got on the plane). I went over in 2008 and took in a carton. When I went back about 5 years later, I did the same (because the duty free store at your departure point will let you buy all you want with no warnings, even though they see/scan your boarding pass and hence know where you are going). Thankfully I spotted a sign in the approach to customs and declared them - the customs just guy opened the carton, handed me a pack, and threw (or at least kept) the rest. And a pack of 25 Marlboro was about $50 when I was over there a little before COVID hit. Dread to think what it is now.

The couple keeps blaming Australia for this. All the man had to do was to not lie on the visa application. His could have avoided all of this, and he is completely at fault. Yet, the couple doesn’t blame themselves at all. That is really entitled and annoying!
She should be thankful that country takes seriously visa applications and not just letting people in.

I think sometimes Australia and other strict counties it's good to be strict and follow the letter of the law but sometimes careful consideration needs to be practiced based on the situation. Nope. Mate we have a lot of different nationalities here. 1/3 of people who call Australia home are born overseas and 1/2 have a parent or grandparent born overseas. Lots of Greeks, Italians, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Thai, Phillipino, Chinese, New Zealanders, South Africans, Indians, Afghani, Sudanese, Sri Lankan, etc... it's largely works and we have awesome restaurants. 😁
