It's is amusing how alien the concept of nervousness is to these people, as if they don't realise even if you are innocent you can still be scared/worried when you are getting questioned. Especially when so much of it is up to the officers discretion.

You've obviously never traveled before. I've been searched plenty of times (I pack a lot of electronics). Never been nervous. There's no reason to be, you're innocent. They'd only do something if you weren't. It's abnormal to be nervous. Yes some people might be nervous for no reason, that's fine. You get searched, nothing is found, you go on your way. Then the other 9/10 times they catch smugglers. Working perfectly as intended but thanks for your useless 14 year old "expertise" on the subject. I'm sure you know better.
When the woman said they had cigarettes and tobacco her husband looked at her pissed. You know he yelled at her saying she was why they got caught but they would’ve been caught even if she’d stayed quiet.

The issue that had no legal reason to take them away they were under the allowed max amount. There for she acted illegally by taking them.

Watch these shows for a while now, I must say, wow the Brits smoke a LOT

No they don't - some people just bring in as many cigarettes as they can because tobacco is very expensive in the UK, so when packets can be bought for as little as £1 in many parts of the world (even less in some countries) and they cost a lot in the UK (currently £9 to £14 per pack - $12 to $18), it saves people a lot of money. That's if they smoke. Some people may not smoke but will bring in as many as possible because they want to sell them to make a profit. Some people do smoke and bring in some for themselves and to sell the rest. Only around 15% of Brits smoke and most people smoke less than one packet per day.
How would a laundry worker and a McDonalds employee have thousands of $ in cash and why would they not just have a bank account? Only criminals do this, so the money cannot be traced!

In one of my past careers, I was present on the Texas-Mexico border during numerous car searches. I think the Brits are missing several places on the cars they search where I observed drugs found on a regular basis. The most obvious location was in the tires, all of them. Border patrol has a very ingenious tool for checking tires and it paid off routinely.
I think these videos are from the early 2000s, I think by now Britain has also ramped up its technology and tools for more thorough checking

It really irked me when the guy said he was frustrated that they had to let the guy with the cash go. That plays into every negative stereotype about law enforcement, that they're more interested in making a bust than getting it right.

The problem is that law enforcement of any sort has the approach that everyone is a suspect. They are so used to people lying that they think everyone lies. Its a sad existence but it is what it is.

There isn’t a limit, the rule is that is must be for personal use, and they must be able to prove it. They never even organised a meeting to try get the cigarettes back, and therefore they were probably not for personal use,

Because you are only permitted to bring that amount of tobacco and cigarettes for personal use, not if you are going to sell them. As the man couldn't make a roll up, it made it clear that the rolling tobacco was not for his own use.

A simple weighing of the package probably would've revealed the bag of sugar has less then what was advertised on the bag.

Politicians daily produce new laws and restrictions so doing nothing wrong is not possible anymore. Simple example, they can arrest you if mp3 song or copyright image is found on your computer. It is irelevant if this mp3 or image is found on you browsing history saved after visiting some internet site. Could you be sure that every image on your machine, left after internet browsing is not someone intellectual property?

They have to say it like that for legal reasons and to avoid being sued because they accused someone of carrying drugs. Saying "arresting you on suspicion of importing drugs" covers their asses for any follow up legal actions.

I travel abroad frequently and always leave all of my credit cards at home due to pick pockets and scams. I always make sure my family knows where I am all the time. I carry only cash but never had issues. Maybe I need to look into some sort of cash loaded card.
