How macabre it was for a "kid's show" probably helped jumpstart my love of body horror and horror in general. Honestly this show was hilarious, I actually got in contact with the creators, Jason Hopley and Jamie Shannon, neither of them have the lost pilot or bumpers and the puppets were apparently discarded by a producer. What a shame.

I always seem to be in that small group of people who never really hated this show. Granted, it got weird from time to time but it had a low-key Crank Yankers vibe. It was one of those silly comedies where nothing was supposed to make sense and rolling with it made it more entertaining.

I feel like this show has a similar vibe to, of all things, Invader Zim. So why do people love Zim and hate this? Personally, I think it's the fact that the puppets are real. And the environments, though exaggerated, resemble real places. And seeing all those horrifying things happening in something that resembles our world just sets a lot of people (myself included) off.
invader zim despite disturbing in some ways at times is usually well somehow more funny than creepy n disturbing. This came off more disturbing and creepy to most at the time because as you said the puppets are real with multipe traumatizing episodes for plently of people and the environments properly looked at the time a bit too real.
I think it's most likely the fact that it is puppets, and the puppets don't look too pretty themselves. Invader zim is animated and more appealing to look at, the characters are another factor too

I remember at the time even though some episodes of invader zim didn't sit well with me i still watched it and the episode regardless felt easier to sit and take in even at its worst. Meanwhile with mr.meaty the moment something like that worm episode came up. I immediately dipped and would not want to go to nickelodeon at all or actively avoid the show all together. One thing i remember though is mr.meaty usually always felt disturbing or digusting to me each episode i've seen where as with zim it was restricted to just a couple rather than the entire series.
Seeing the in-between shows nicktoons bumper of the guys in mascot suits hitting each other with bags of popcorn was like a memory flashbang going off in my face. My vision actually started spinning a second after seeing it.

Don't you know that a lot of kids really enjoy stuff that's ugly and scary and taboo? It's always been this way. When we're young we like being frightened or seeing things that are, well, questionable or unsightly. And for many of us, we never outgrow this quality.
I remember watching this show when it first premiered. I was 9 years old at the time, and I was a pretty big fan of anything related to puppets. I remember really liking the show, and I still don't know why I was so drawn to it. I used to believe that a lot of movies and tv shows were just fever drreams of my youth. The fact that this show was not just a fever dream, terrifies me more then the actual show.

I remember my mom making sure to turn the TV off or change the channel as soon as she heard this come on. She sensed that the hand deep frying episode was probably comparatively tame to what the rest of the series had to offer, thanks mom.
Mr.Meaty always had a very specific set of memories burned into my mind that I look back on with some positive reaction. Most of my friends never knew what this show was and I've had the pleasure of showing all of them this masterfully made clusterfuck
You know what's so interesting and something I've always believed? I truly think this show would've lasted longer and possibly have gotten more of a positive reaction if it was on channels like Adult Swim or Comedy Central. I never understood why they put it in something like Nickelodeon because even some of the storylines were too adult even for kids to properly understand and I feel like the jokes and humor COULD'VE worked had it been for more of an adult audience. There's kind of a sarcastic and macabre feel of the show that a lot of us didn't get as kids but when we got older and saw this show again as older teens and even adults, we understood the humor and plotlines better. I truly think the only reason why this showed failed as much as it did was because they aimed it as a "kids show." I truly believe that was its downfall.

I actually loved this show as a kid. Sure, the puppet designs were weird, but all the plot lines were so bizarre that I couldn't helped but be enthralled. It's like an early, grotesque version of Regular Show, and I can't help but respect it for that.
I remember coming across Mr. Meaty whenever I'd flip through channels to see if any of the shows I watched were on and as soon as I saw the puppets I immediately switched to another channel since it always seemed like a boring and weird show to me. I never did like those puppets.

I had successfully locked away the tapeworm episode in the depths of my mind for years and you unlocked those memories. This show messed me up so much as a kid, i remember watching tv and when it came on i'd rush to change the channel as quick as possible.
When the show was being advertised around the premiere, I decided it would be my favorite show and watched it regardless if the content made my skin crawl because somehow, every episode was different from the last and nothing like the rest of the cartoon line up. Honestly, Mr. Meaty is probably the precursor for why I watched and loved 6teen in a roundabout way. The thing that still haunts me is the owner coming out of the freezer and always looking like a corpse. Because my mind went beyond the puppets and I can just see a bloated skeleton in 1080p horrifying glory. Would binge with a friend. Cheers.
Ah, Mr. Meaty. Thanks for brining up my repressed memories. Nah, but seriously, I actually enjoyed watching this back when it was on air. I'm not surprised that they were inspired by Ren & Stimpy; it really shows in their writing. I also love Ren & Stimpy so I'm also not surprised that I enjoyed Mr. Meaty. My best friend at the time was not able to watch it as his parents actually did not allow him to watch TV when it was on. Still find that funny to this day.
Do you like Frankie Muniz? His early work was a little too childish for my tastes, but when Malcolm In The Middle came out in 2000, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole series has a star-studded cast, and a new sheen of situational comedy storytelling that really gives the episodes a big boost. He's been compared to Devon Werkheiser, but I think Muniz has a far more "folklore trickster" style of acting. In '02, Muniz starred in this, Big Fat Liar, his most accomplished film. He plays Jason Shepherd, whose undisputed masterpiece is "Big Fat Liar", an essay so good, Hollywood director Marty Wolf--played by Paul Giamatti--stole it to use as the basis for his next movie. But he shouldn't have, because not only does Giamatti spend the rest of the film's 88 minute runtime being trolled by Muniz and Amanda Bynes, but the duality between his and Muniz's characters and their respective arcs serve as the main Aesop of the film itself. I remember watching this show when I was 7/8 and having nightmares constantly about the tapeworm episode. Years later and thankfully no more nightmares, I started remembering tidbits of the show especially the main characters and the dreaded tapeworm, but I could never remember the name of it. So for over ten years tidbits always came back to remind me but as always couldn’t remember the name or even figure out the name of the show while using google. Then today I was scrolling though instagram and an account mentioned this show along while the name and the caption was along the lines of “did anyone else have nightmares about this show in your childhood?” Now I’m figuring out a way to watch this show to complete the memory I had for this show. It’s disturbing but I had to admit this had an impact on my childhood and it’s something that I could never forget.

when i was a kid i remember crying when i found out it was discontinued. i adored it so much. why? because i loved the creepy weird vibe it gave. i like weird things that make me think. 14 years later and i still watch the episodes on youtube, i LOVEEE it.
I remember seeing this show a few times, the only episode I distinctly remember is the one with the tapeworm, I was oddly not bothered by it, In fact when my family use to have direct TV, I would look through the nicktoons schedule JUST to fine an episode of Mr.Meaty again, something about the style the show had and the weird story which as a kid I just didn't understand, I really wanted to just find it again, I never did lol until internet told me "yep it's real". I don't watch the show, but whenever I see it I have a weird sense of nostalgia for a show I never really watched at all but hunted for it's existence anyway.

Don't you know that a lot of kids really enjoy stuff that's ugly and scary and taboo? It's always been this way. When we're young we like being frightened or seeing things that are, well, questionable or unsightly. And for many of us, we never outgrow this quality.
I remember watching this show when it first premiered. I was 9 years old at the time, and I was a pretty big fan of anything related to puppets. I remember really liking the show, and I still don't know why I was so drawn to it. But looking back at it now, it's uhhh... definitely a bit of nightmare fuel that I probably shouldn't have remembered XD

I remember my mom making sure to turn the TV off or change the channel as soon as she heard this come on. She sensed that the hand deep frying episode was probably comparatively tame to what the rest of the series had to offer, thanks mom.

The notorious tapeworm episode terrified me as a kid. But for some reason I still enjoyed watching this show.
Mr.Meaty always had a very specific set of memories burned into my mind that I look back on with some positive reaction. Most of my friends never knew what this show was and I've had the pleasure of showing all of them this masterfully made clusterfuck
You know what's so interesting and something I've always believed? I truly think this show would've lasted longer and possibly have gotten more of a positive reaction if it was on channels like Adult Swim or Comedy Central. I never understood why they put it in something like Nickelodeon because even some of the storylines were too adult even for kids to properly understand and I feel like the jokes and humor COULD'VE worked had it been for more of an adult audience. There's kind of a sarcastic and macabre feel of the show that a lot of us didn't get as kids but when we got older and saw this show again as older teens and even adults, we understood the humor and plotlines better. I truly think the only reason why this showed failed as much as it did was because they aimed it as a "kids show." I truly believe that was its downfall.

I always absolutely loved Mr Meaty. I completely understand why it was nightmare fuel for some, but the grotesquely unique puppets had me hooked. I wish they had DVDs available, but Nick will never release them.

I actually loved this show as a kid. Sure, the puppet designs were weird, but all the plot lines were so bizarre that I couldn't helped but be enthralled.
It's like an early, grotesque version of Regular Show, and I can't help but respect it for that.

I remember coming across Mr. Meaty whenever I'd flip through channels to see if any of the shows I watched were on and as soon as I saw the puppets I immediately switched to another channel since it always seemed like a boring and weird show to me. I never did like those puppets.
I saw this show at my cousins house once, and I never found out the name of it. Always had it hidden in the back of mind whenever I thought of my cousins old house though. Thanks to you, I remember this horrifying abomination of a show and can now mention it to them L.O.L.

When the show was being advertised around the premiere, I decided it would be my favorite show and watched it regardless if the content made my skin crawl because somehow, every episode was different from the last and nothing like the rest of the cartoon line up. Honestly, Mr. Meaty is probably the precursor for why I watched and loved 6teen in a roundabout way.
The thing that still haunts me is the owner coming out of the freezer and always looking like a corpse. Because my mind went beyond the puppets and I can just see a bloated skeleton in 1080p horrifying glory. Would binge with a friend. Cheers.

Nah, but seriously, I actually enjoyed watching this back when it was on air. I'm not surprised that they were inspired by Ren & Stimpy; it really shows in their writing. I also love Ren & Stimpy so I'm also not surprised that I enjoyed Mr. Meaty. My best friend at the time was not able to watch it as his parents actually did not allow him to watch TV when it was on. Still find that funny to this day.
Do you like Frankie Muniz? His early work was a little too childish for my tastes, but when Malcolm In The Middle came out in 2000, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole series has a star-studded cast, and a new sheen of situational comedy storytelling that really gives the episodes a big boost. He's been compared to Devon Werkheiser, but I think Muniz has a far more "folklore trickster" style of acting. In '02, Muniz starred in this, Big Fat Liar, his most accomplished film. He plays Jason Shepherd, whose undisputed masterpiece is "Big Fat Liar", an essay so good, Hollywood director Marty Wolf--played by Paul Giamatti--stole it to use as the basis for his next movie. But he shouldn't have, because not only does Giamatti spend the rest of the film's 88 minute runtime being trolled by Muniz and Amanda Bynes, but the duality between his and Muniz's characters and their respective arcs serve as the main Aesop of the film itself. HEY FRINGE!

I remember watching this show when I was 7/8 and having nightmares constantly about the tapeworm episode. Years later and thankfully no more nightmares, I started remembering tidbits of the show especially the main characters and the dreaded tapeworm, but I could never remember the name of it. So for over ten years tidbits always came back to remind me but as always couldn’t remember the name or even figure out the name of the show while using google. Then today I was scrolling though instagram and an account mentioned this show along while the name and the caption was along the lines of “did anyone else have nightmares about this show in your childhood?” Now I’m figuring out a way to watch this show to complete the memory I had for this show. It’s disturbing but I had to admit this had an impact on my childhood and it’s something that I could never forget.

I remember seeing exactly one episode of _Nana Land,_ but I passed the memory off as a fever-dream or something similar, so I don’t even vaguely remember how old I was when I saw it.
I used to love this show even tho it was really weird and creepy at times, but one of the scariest episodes for me was one with death. I can’t remember what happened but being young and seeing it super late at night felt spooky

Im glad you're mentioning the tapeworm, because um, that's literally the ONLY memory I have of this show from keeping it from fading into obscurity.
I remember seeing this show a few times, the only episode I distinctly remember is the one with the tapeworm, I was oddly not bothered by it, In fact when my family use to have direct TV, I would look through the nicktoons schedule JUST to fine an episode of Mr.Meaty again, something about the style the show had and the weird story which as a kid I just didn't understand, I really wanted to just find it again, I never did lol until internet told me "yep it's real".
I don't watch the show, but whenever I see it I have a weird sense of nostalgia for a show I never really watched at all but hunted for it's existence anyway.
This show is my literal fever dream whenever I was sick, specifically staying home from school.
