    Comma device is a piece of aftermarket hardware that plugs in to your car and is mounted to the windshield. It runs Comma.ai's custom software, Openpilot. Openpilot is easy to use and works similarly to your regular adaptive cruise control. Simply press a button on your steering wheel and It enables your car to steer, accelerate, and brake automatically within its lane; and it does all of this much better than your car's default stock system. Openpilot is similar to Tesla's Autopilot.
    Supported cars:
    github.com/commaai/openpilot/...
    Openpilot does not make my car fully self-driving; I am focusing on driving 100% of the time and ready to take over any time.
    car: Honda Civic hatchback 2019
    software: openpilot v0.8.7 laneless model
    device: Comma 2

    I have had mine installed on my 2021 rav4 hybrid for a little over a week so far. I've only actually used it for about 80 miles so far.. pretty happy with it. However, during the day I have to wear my sunglasses because it apparently has trouble seeing my eyes and yells at me for it. Yes, I verified that I'm being seen with the camera just fine, and it works perfectly at night.

      In your case, it was because the ECU f/w info (aka. FPv2) wasn't making it through to the final "OBD-C" connection... "empty carFw", which is different than the usual missing fingerprint scenario 😉

    • @frederickschulze8014
      @frederickschulze8014 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It basically is auto steering control. Even if you have a fully compatible car, it does not do blindspot monitoring, slow down for traffic lights/stop signs, or make turns onto other roads along your route. Its best use is on the highway. As far as I know, you generally need a car that already supports lane detection assist (if you drive over the road lines, it beeps and tries to center you). Most of these cars don't have lane centering, so you can give them that ability. And, for cars that already have lane centering, from what I've seen on youtube, the comma can make them better.

    • @LetitDrive
      @LetitDrive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Without Openpilot cars stock lane keeping assist would just ping-pong between lane lines. With Opnepilot its not ordinary lane centering, it can handle the roads without lane lines and the system tries to estimate where the road goes etc. Road without lane lines: th-cam.com/video/mvlyDWTFOVc/w-d-xo.html
      I don't get Openpilot ACC (longitudinal control), Gas and brake are still controlled by car stock radar. But Openpilot adds ACC auto-resume, when driving in traffic jams / stop-and-go traffic.

    Correct me if I’m wrong but as I research I’m reading there are affordable vehicles with all the full self driving features as say the Tesla for 20k as technology been available since 2016. The question I’m asking myself is why would I buy comma ai if you still need to purchase a vehicle in the 20k range to make it work for the open pilot features. so far as I can tell just buy a 20k self driving vehicle with all the features installed instead of the comma ai plus the vehicle which will add to same thing right?

    • @LetitDrive
      @LetitDrive  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey,
      If we compare Tesla Autopilot Vs Comma.ai Openpilot, then both of the systems have pros and cons. Tesla Autopilot is ready to use and user-friendly but for "self-driving" experience Openpilot does better work IMO. Openpilot installation is not suitable for non-tech user and software is still experimental. Driving is not a game, like with Tesla Autopilot You really need to understand system limits to prevent having a fatal accident.
      In all systems You, as the driver, are responsible for driving the vehicle. All vehicle features are assistive!
      For all Comma.ai supported cars Openpilot provides a better experience than any ADAS stock system.

Plenty of other people with the same issue on reddit and discord. Crappy 1 year limited warranty with barely any support. I work in IT and even updated their software to include my cars fingerprint but there's not much I can do about all the software and hardware issues this thing has. If you're going to sell a 2000 product you can't just expect people to work it out themselves and ignore them half the time. Also needs better warranty because it's the cheapest possible hardware which multiple users complain about. SMH
