Hey Zeek, great stuff! I got my brother a EOS M for Christmas, and am wondering, are the EOSM2 ML downloads on Dannephotos repository also for the M1, 1st gen?
Hello, Zeek!) I'm from Russia. My English is not very good, but I hope you understand me) You inspired me to start shooting videos with the Canon EOS M + Magic Lantern. But I'm interested in a few questions. What difficulties and bugs may I encounter while working with Magic Lantern? I mean the stability of the camera. And I'm also interested in the duration of continuous video recording in the 1080 mcm revire 14bit RAW format? I would also like to say thank you for what you are doing!)
Hi and thank you! You can shoot continuous RAW 1080 MCM mode@1736x976 resolution. You may need a fast computer for quicker conversion process. The raw converter is called MLV App. You can convert Magic Lantern RAW to DNG or Prores 4444, H.264 and so on. With this mode I haven't had any issues. There are some aliasing but it depends on the lens you choose and you can reduce them with a setting in MLV App. A
@@ZeekEOSZThank you so much for the detailed answer!) As I understand, in this mode, I can record video without a time limit? The duration will be limited by the capacity of the memory card?
This might be the dumbest question ever but you can take photographs with the eos m/magic lantern combo and not just video right? Again sorry for the dumb question. And if so do the same setting apply?
I wanted it to be soft. I used no speedbooster, just a basic adapter and tried to reduce sharpness is post a little. I tried to reduce the digital look.
@@ZeekEOSZ So you have/had the NX1 also? Interesting. Am guessing you know about the hacks and how to get the best out of video. So do you still prefer the Canon M over the NX1 for video work?
@@motebike Different cameras in my opinion. I like the footage from the M Raw more than my M50, but I would rather the M50 to record myself for TH-cam. Out in the field it would be the M. So...just depends what you're after and what you want it to do. The NX1 is pin sharp but can look videoish. I like raw video as you can tweak the colours much more without it falling apart.
It allows you to tweak the shutter. For example with these photo cameras you can only switch from 1/40 to 1/50 and nothing in-between. But with image fine-tuning, you can adjust it to variable shutters like 1/48 down from 1/50.
Fantastic footage! Did you change your process in any way? I have an impression that the highlights rolloff is even smoother compared to older videos of yours.
From the latest build, continuous recording is easy. Mcm rewire 1080, 16:9, 1736x976, 14bit lossless. You shouldn't have any issues with these! I'll make a settings video in the upcoming vid. 🎬👍

@@tokarevdesign
Yes limited by card capacity/battery. Continuous raw in MCM rewire 1080 mode.
This might be the dumbest question ever but you can take photographs with the eos m/magic lantern combo and not just video right? Again sorry for the dumb question. And if so do the same setting apply?
Yes you sure can. Just turn of the Raw resolution in the 3rd tab in the ML menu.
Amazing shots! Curious about the 14 bit. On the magic lantern site, it says 10 bit. Can you clarify?
There is 14-bit lossless and 14-bit Uncompressed. Here I recorded 14-bit Uncompressed with the EOS M.
Nice...
Thanks 😁
Video looks very soft. Any reason for this.
I wanted it to be soft. I used no speedbooster, just a basic adapter and tried to reduce sharpness is post a little. I tried to reduce the digital look.
@@ZeekEOSZ I get it, so it's a choice rather than a limitation. Guess I've been spoiled by my Samsung NX1 for sheer details.
@@motebike
Yep! Have heaps of videos on the channel with this camera!
NX1,..sheesh, place that camera near a bunch of onions and it'll make you cry ;)
@@ZeekEOSZ So you have/had the NX1 also? Interesting. Am guessing you know about the hacks and how to get the best out of video. So do you still prefer the Canon M over the NX1 for video work?
@@motebike
Different cameras in my opinion.
For the shutter speed, what is image fine tuning?
It allows you to tweak the shutter. For example with these photo cameras you can only switch from 1/40 to 1/50 and nothing in-between. But with image fine-tuning, you can adjust it to variable shutters like 1/48 down from 1/50.
Fantastic footage! Did you change your process in any way? I have an impression that the highlights rolloff is even smoother compared to older videos of yours.
I'm always changing grading process for each video. I reduced sharpen and I think the majority of the look is thanks to the zeiss lens.
Hey Zeek, big fan. What settings would you say are the most reliable for continuous recording.
From the latest build, continuous recording is easy. Mcm rewire 1080, 16:9, 1736x976, 14bit lossless. You shouldn't have any issues with these! I'll make a settings video in the upcoming vid. 🎬👍
@@ZeekEOSZ just what I needed!! Thanks!!!!
Great👍
Hi @@ZeekEOSZ how about this , continuous recording + low antialiasng + low crop factor (equal or less than 3) + 14bit
Crop factor is 1.6x. Aliasing isn't so bad with this build. 14bit lossless is continuous, 14bit uncompressed isn't.
Zeek! Is magic lantern supported on EOS M5?
Unfortunately not
@@ZeekEOSZ have you ever tried Sony a6300 line up? They have slog2 slog3 options and heard it's free from moire and aliasing...
@@milanjani
I used to own the A6300 for a while and used Slog3 for the majority of time. 8-bit is a limitation. Preferred the EOS M RAW.
@@ZeekEOSZ oh... ok... eos m raw is 14 bit?
@@milanjani
You bet. 10,12 & 14 bit raw
What is the crop factor of MCM Rewire?
My latest video goes through all this. But it's 1.6x usual aps-c crop
Hey buddy.. these shots are mismizing ..I am making a video on ML and its benefits and I was looking for a video like this. Please allow me to use some part of your videos, I would give you a proper credits and would also share the link to your channel on my video so people can find you...Please let me know if you're ok with that..cheers
