Is Days Gone as bad as the critics say? Or is it as good as the fans say? I did not play this game, but I have a boyfriend who did, so it's about time some guy's girlfriend inserts herself into the conversation and makes everyone even more upset about Days Gone.

If IGN could just agree with me all the time then we could avoid all of the drama. Is that so hard?

@Xbox One I DON'T KNOW *(Proceeds to shows the clip of dubbed Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Hercules in New York")*
One thing that drove me crazy was when the radio would beep and someone on the other end would be like, "Deacon? You there?"
And instead of TELLING ME WHAT THEY WANT, Deacon would be like, "Yeah. You probably have a job for me, huh?"
Then I'd have to drive all the way to the other side of the map, wasting time and fuel, to be given the mission. Why couldn't they just tell me over the radio and let me go straight to the mission site so I didn't have to make two stops?
Because it makes too much sense.
That wasn't the worst part of the radio for me, it was the points where you'd clear most of the missions, and as you're going to the last mission you would get 4 calls in a row to post new jobs one after the other, sometimes by the same person, it was ridiculous.
Good point…… I never thought about that.
But being a damn errand boy is a staple of all open world games.
Because games have ignored proper communication always. They want you to travel around. Look at Mass Effect or Life is Strange. The difference is those two games were competently designed.

I unironically liked Days Gone, it was a fun ride. The story was good and I had a lot of fun taking out hordes, it did exactly what a game needed to do, kill time and entertain me
I thought it was an amazing game
I feel somewhat similarly the story and it’s characters were kinda irrelevant but the lore about the zombies established in the game is very deep and quite unique the bike and killing hordes were the only fun parts about the game , the stealth missions are pretty frustrating and even though I’m not a person who cares about graphics much but some shots looked kinda shit and the open world was very repetitive and not that good to explore but the one excellent thing about the open world is the zombie hordes and the fact that this game has one of the most dangerous worlds.

Shelby: perhaps I treated Star Wars: JFO too harshly.
it's ok
Days Gone was a weird one for me cause I went in with very low expectations after getting it for Xmas after pretty much skipping it at release due to what I'd heard about the bugs, and wound up loving it. By some apparent luck I never had any bugs (or at least nothing particularly noticeable) and other than a few obvious issues (Deacon shouting the whole way through regardless of the noise level around him) had a great time
It sounds like they went into the game wanting to force it to be a thrill ride and action packed zombie shooter and instead they got a fairly down to earth wholesome story. It's really weird to watch this video and then watch their Last of Us 2 and Cyberpunk reviews. Their standards are not consistent and all over the place. Downright hypocritical at times. Honestly I bet if the main character of Days Gone was a woman with her wife with some more LGBTQ+ instead of a straight dood acting pretty normal most reviews would be praising it for it's heartfelt story. And that feels weird to even say, but that just feels like where are now. You make a walking simulator like Gone Home and you get praised by critics and influencers. You make a game like Days Gone and you get shit on. But if you look at the actual player reviews for Days Gone on Steam they are quite positive and completely out of step with critic reviews.

Game reviews and influencers often have an agenda or strong personal biases. Just look how hard this channel defended Cyberpunk and The Last of Us 2 but shits on Days Gone. Now look how different that is from actual steam reviews from players.
@Ralathar44 good point. It's really weird for me how biased this channel could be at times, but I view this as entertainment only
My biggest problem is the fact that the game use fades to black every 2 minutes.

I can totally see why the game isn't for everyone, but a little part of me is still sad that the cancelled the sequel (although really...it probably would've kinda sucked comparatively)
I doubt the sequel would have sucked, you’re thinking about movies. Video game sequels usually refine the gameplay and add new features. They could have made days gone 2 such an awesome game
Yup playing this game on hard or higher difficulty is more immersive.. especially at the beginning when you have not much skills or firepower to take more than a few head on..
"Meetings that could have been emails" resonated so hard that I said bad words out loud. Hilarious as always
All I learned from this video is that we need ranting ADHD Shelby to make more appearances.
yes.
I fully agree with this statement
It's like Angry Joe but ADHD Shelby 😂
Days Gone was the most “OK” game I’ve ever played. I couldn’t stop playing but I couldn’t recommend it either. Played for hours but never finished. The whole thing was just meh but with a decent formula. Almost felt like some of Ubisoft’s lesser games or something. You’re like oh this is great... 20 hours of doing it and you’re done.
Yeah it was the most mediocre game, and deserved all the criticism.
You nailed it!
I finished it, even got the platinum trophy. (I have the PS Plus version that was provided for free…)
While I enjoyed the latter half of the game, almost all of this video’s points are correct. From the forced slow walking to the unpolished gameplay (countless times I pressed square to do stuff just for Deke to pirouette in front of the thing and then stop). The shooting and stealth is fine. But the main character is such an a$$ for the first half, my eyes hurt from rolling.
The one truly great thing from the game I still remember is the map. It’s relatively small but densely packed, yet it never really feels like backtracking. I wish more games will do it this way.
I’m surprised about this! One of the few games I finished to completion. But mainly because someone told me that the second half of the game is “like an entirely different game” - which was a straight up lie. I was hoping the game would turn into a settlement builder or something with your own camp.
@Evanz111 even though chances of a sequel happening are still slim rn, this is legitimately one of my big hopes for said sequel. Or at least having elements of a settlement builder introduced.
wouldve ruined the game
The only time I've been proud of being early
Man you guys really have elevated your game over even the last six months, the writing, the audio quality, the editing, everything is spot on. Love your stuff keep it up you two !
i played Days Gone in PC for the first time and for me it was magical, the game has a lot of problems like a really slow passing trough the story but riding the bike when the snow hits and the feel of loneless was just different...
I really like Days Gone, I'm about 50% of the way through it now. I think the issue with this particular review is that Shelby (as a backseat gamer) didn't like to WATCH Days Gone.
Days Gone fans: “oh hey, girlfriend reviews did a video on Days Gone. That’s cool.”
* Sees what the video is ACTUALLY about.
Days Gone Fans: “You have made a grave mistake.”
EDIT: wow, I think this the most replies I’ve ever gotten for one of my comments. I just hope that you guys are being civil to each other and not saying anything bad.
yap thats me x'D
I feel... betrayed
That was their mistake
@@glendarjj3991 they told the truth. Idk how people cant see days gone needed ALOT more care.
@@teamwork_videogamer well eventually it did get it. Doesnt excuse the poor state at launch of course. But I did find that ign rant of hers pretty weird. It seems she only saw the main IGN review and not the other 2 one of wich draws negative because of deacon race and the other shitting on anyone that disliked their review in an inmature way.
I bought the PC version of the game, and played through it, and never encountered any of the bugs from this video. Maybe I just got lucky? I enjoyed it, and I enjoyed this review as well
I played it on a standard PS4 and maybe had one or two small glitches, nothing like what they got in this video. Maybe they just have bad luck haha
Same here dude. I bought it recently on the PS store for a Slim. It runs perfect. Clean as any game should be and I’m actually having a great time with it.
I had far more glitches in RDR2 which was made by over 1000 people, not 150
Same, didn’t have a single bug in my entire playthrough. (PS4 and PS5)
I’m on ps4 slim and have had no glitches
It's time Shelby played the Tomb Raider Trilogy...cause the first game was completely nuts!!!
P.S: I thought she would like a female centric game... something like Horizon Zero Dawn.
Tomb raider trilogy is awful
@@ramseyschroeder8531 It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t Amazing. I would give it 7/10.
It’s a great trilogy by itself. It’s a very confusing take of the legacy of tomb raider. 7/10 sounds about right
@@coltonpiper6156 that's fair, but personally I'd give it more of an 8 or a 9

I just like guns and motorcycles man lol. Also I loved the glitches, Glitches broke up the monotany. I will agree with her on the story though. Its just not that well written lol.

You probably did not notice it. I played through av Odyssey day 1 without getting much bugs. But once people said there were a lot, I went back and played it and found a crap ton.
I know. I don't even get bugs in Bethesda games. I guess because I don't try to break the games limits, usually just go where the game wants me to go
I have roundabout 120 hours in this game, and i got like 5 major bugs
I enjoyed Days Gone until I started playing other games again. It's really hard for me to want to go back and Shelby's view solidified why I don't want to continue it

Hahaha. That is to say. Me neither!
Gross oversight on wacky delightfulness.
I guess I forgive her.
I stand by that the best way to play this game is the hardest survival mode difficulty, one main gun and a melee weapon- no crossbow. The increase in difficulty and lack of hud make the game feel so much more survival horror, and the slower gameplay matches the slower main story quests accordingly.
The church scene jarred me too!
There are so many moments like that that could have been cut to smooth out the game's horrendous pacing.
It didn't know what it wanted to be most of the time: an interactive movie or a video game; yet it wanted to have it both ways.
The more I think about my time playing the damn game, the more sour I feel about it.
I played this game for a little bit and the part I remembered being a pain was driving around. One of the biggest parts of the game.
What about the driving? You know there is a fast travel feature too?

I love you for giving us your real opinions about the game even though you may get some flak. It's so refreshing compared to most other reviewers, please keep the attitude up! :)
Ditto to that!
So many TH-camrs who disliked Days Gone sold out. Skill Up went easy on it because of his greatest fear ... getting "ratioed". haha. Titling his review "In defense of Days Gone" can be roughly translated as "Please don't hit me for not liking this game".
Then there were other videos like "Why I Was Wrong About Days Gone" (i.e. "please forgive me. Oh, how I have sinned. The game broke me and made me unhappy but I played more and believe me, I've seen the light now, gamers.") It's pretty sad
Ya, it’s definitely refreshing, even if I am a fan of the game. She presented some legit critiques, and her experience was sadly lacking due to a buggy play through.
Shelby is right in a lot of areas, but for me days gone presented a game that was quite unique in its own way and with the positives exceeding the negatives (again my opinion). I enjoyed the story and hord killing the most and would like a sequal eventhough by this point its not looking too great lol

I must have been the only 1 that enjoyed Days Gone, I bought a standard PS4 + The Last Of Us Remasterd + Days Gone at the start of the pandemic and enjoyed every second (Days Gone does get repetitive)
Going the extra mile on that "Tuchus" pronunciation.
Okay so maybe I am biased because I ride bikes, or for some reason enjoy the simplistic story Days Gone offers, but it is one of my favorite games of recent years. Maybe it could be because I experienced far fewer bugs in this game than Cyberpunk 2077, which you guys praised. That being said I have nothing against you and respect your opinion. This channel usually has reviews that I myself agree with, but unfortunately, this is a game we don't agree on, and that's fine. As for The Last of Us Part II, I have never played either game of that series so I stay neutral.
Good job as always, guys.
I played it when it was free on playstation plus for weeks and i thought it was great and i got the platinum for it

It's a fun game. Not revolutionary or a masterpiece, but a good time for a zombie open world
Same, and the pacing was what made me invested in this actual post-apocalyptic zombie world. But I can totally see where she's coming from, back seating this game is probably awful.
@@Jesus-VII matt thinks the same actually.. like she said.. this game doesnt HAVE ANY pacing cause gameplay and story almost never weave together.
Yep. I got it for free too and stopped after less than an hour. 😐
Man, people apparently had a way different experience with this game than I did. I really enjoyed the game based exclusively on gameplay, the story needed a lot of work though.
The gameplay was just repedative and boring.
I haven't played this game, but I sympathize with that perspective. Looking at the gameplay and reviews this feels like one of those games where it's just more fun go around and get into trouble, than actually do any of the story/quests. The thing is some games are really good at capitalizing on that, and make the gameplay good enough to carry the game alone without any coherent story (think just cause or saints row) but this game doesn't seem like it does enough different gameplay wise either... Maybe if you are really into zombie games, and hey I get it, to me, shooting zombies never gets old, maybe then it would be worth a look.
