I remember I had a scratched cod ghosts disc (ps3) and it would always give me an error when playing at the same part. I used toothpaste to polish it and it worked without any errors from then.

I can confirm this works. This was my first time trying to clean a CD , it wasn't badly scratched but it was skipping a lot. Like the video says , take a scratch proof cloth and put toothpaste on it. Gently rub the toothpaste all over the back of the CD ( don't wet CD first ) , then let it sit on there for an hour or two. Then gently run luke warm water to wash off the toothpaste , then dry off CD carefully with a scratch proof cloth. My CD hasn't skipped once now , thank you TheHelpfulChannel. : D

I did this with a papertowel and it worked perfect on my DVD. I'm super glad, cause it's "No Country For Old Men" and the "tracker scene" was damaged.

I've watched maybe half a dozen kids claiming that toothpaste is the miracle cure for scratched CDs (and DVDs etc), but not one of them had the common sense to explain the most important factor. This video actually does. Toothpaste (apart from various other chemistry) is a compound cleaner; a fine abrasive. Like any abrasive, it is the physical action that gets the job done, not a chemical reaction. So simply applying toothpaste won't fix the scratches. But as this video shows, polishing will.

@motocrossking731 no a cd is like a sticker pasted onto a clear disc. so when u scratch it none of the date is gone its just it cant be read. thats why there are places where u can take ur disc and they fix it. try getting a blank disc and scratches the top side. you'll see that it comes off from the top leaving a see through disc. so it can work just depends on the toothpaste you use. some toothpastes will make it worse because they have little crystals for fresh breath.

If u ever wanna know how to clean a disc just look on the first page of the readers manual on a video game if you dont have a video game the the best way is to get a nice clothe and clean from the center out idk about scratched cds

I decided to go with this video because the instructor was well prepared, concise in his words, careful with his disc and to the point with no unnecessary muzak drowning out his instructions. Disc show should be flipped to show that it is indeed a DVD or CD and not a BluRay.
My Legend of Kay disc works but not without causing more scratches likely due to using the toothpaste on a dry surface. It was badly resurfaced and then sold to me.
The problem: Disc would lag and then stall after start menu.
Process: Disc was rinsed with warm water and then cleaned in outward stroke using an eyeglass wipe from my optometrists business.
After this the toothpaste I used (Crest Complete) was tested for abrasive granules and then used as instructed in this video.
Disc was set to dry for 20 minutes and then rinsed (not wiped of with micro fibre cloth as per video) in warm water in a circular manner within a very smooth takeout food bowl (inspected for sharp stud at bottom that could scratch the game's decal). Used water left to run off and out occasionally by tipping.
Disc surface was dabbed try with glasses cleaning wipe and decal side wiped was dried with a soft microfibre towel carefully. Disc left to dry for 10 minutes under kitchen stove fan to expedite drying.
Finally, disc was again sprayed with glasses cleaning solution that was wiped away from center hole outward to disc edge all the way around being careful to never apply the dry fabric to the dry disc anywhere.
Despite this I got 12-16 0.5-2.0 cm cosmetic scratches throughout the disc sheen atop the previously resurfaced surface of the disc.
Does the disc work? Yes. Tested on two separate PS2 consoles (old slim and newest slim type).
Does the process create more scratches? Yes, it does. Check your toothpaste on a shallow scratch up disc first to see the effects. Use your cell phone or other camera to snap a pick of before and after so you can see the difference to better decide if this DIY process is for you.
My next attempt will be to use Axe Shield Shading Gel - Sensitive Ultra Smooth to see if I can get a better result than with the above mentioned toothpaste.
After this, I believe all toothpaste is likely abrasive no matter how it feels in your fingers.
Those extra scratches caused from toothpaste are superficial and don't affect play of disc!
I just discovered that the fourth disk of a game I had was damaged beyond use. Just tried this out and it works now, so this really dos work

I tried it many times with toothpaste and it doesn't work at all... it becomes worst!! But I cleaned my CD's with cold water, maybe do I have to do it with warm water? Maybe it's working... but if still doesn't work??
The best thing that worked for me was SCRATCH OUT! I bought it at Walmart and was only $5 dollars. My Xbox had moved and my COD Advanced Warfare got the circle scratch really bad. So I went to Walmart to buy a disc cleaner machine but they didn't have any. So i seen this SCRATCH OUT and it said it gets out all bad scratches for Xbox, PlayStation and the Wii. Anyone that has the same problem and if you only have a little money i totally recommend this to them. Now I'm so happy I didn't have to waste money to buy another Cod AW.
yo i used it yesterday and still no progress, just more small light cricular scratches on the disc -_- and i used a microfiber cloth, is there a particular way you did it
I just kept applying smaller amounts on the most scratched areas on the disc and then i used another cloth to clean it dry. I did not use water to rinse it off. Just keep applying it with alittle more pressure and make sure you're shaking the bottle alot before using it too. Keep me posted
Did that alot but i did rinse it off each time, gam still goes to loadinh screen when i go in to a fight
When i did the small circilar thing it just made more scratches, but it doesnt seem to lose anymore loading or anything
That weird cause i had alot of scratches and it worked fine. If anything try bringing it to a cd cleaning store it shouldnt be that much

Must use toothpaste on ENTIRE disc! This levels out the whole surface of CD, so scratches no longer stand out.

I tried chapstick. It improved slightly, but my disc is horribly scratched so it might work on someone elses'. Give it a try!
So, basically, for the deeper scratches, toothpaste + baking soda + small circular motions within the track area only.
this just worked for me on a rather large scratch on an xbox 360 game... make sure to install the game onto the hard drive as soon as you get it working.

Great video that didn't work for for CD Cds are terrible Specially every time somthing like this happens they don't play or they lock up specially cassette proven they continue playing with no problem when they are damage
