We lost Judith in the same week as we lost Olivia Newton John. In this song she is leaning against a tall stool. She had a massive stroke and had to learn to walk and talk again. She was left with a lung disease from measles as a child but she never lost that voice. I love her singing When The Carnival is Over. Like Livvie, Judith was a very special lady and they are both missed. Thank you.
I read that Judith came to this concert from hospital where she was still recovering from her stroke and that she went back to hospital that night. I got on a tram once, many years ago in the City in Melbourne and Judith was sitting there on her own. She saw me and obviously realised that I recognised her and she just slowly turned away and looked out of the tram. I would have loved to go over to her and thank her for the joy she'd given me over the years, but I didn't and I think we exchanged the briefest of smiles when I got off the tram. I could have imagined that, but.....
One of the great things about this song is its inclusivity. From First Nations people all the way through to the most recent immigrants. It’s a celebration of all the cultures that make up the country, as well as its history and landscapes. This is one of those songs that make you feel proud, without needing to resort to jingoism.
As a proud fifth generation Texan, I've had the privilege of working with and becoming friends with several Australians and I feel a real affinity with Australia and Australians. To me, this song really drives home the story of Australia and the pride Australians feel for their homeland, much the way I feel about the USA and TEXAS.
I am not from New Zealand, but we as Australians have the greatest respect for our neighbours over the"ditch". They, like us, are very patriotic in their own ways, but we like to poke fun at each other from time to time. If you want to watch something very emotional (it bring me to tears each time I watch it) that shows the strength of brotherhood I suggest you check out the "2nd 1st Farewell Their Fallen Comrades with a Huge Haka".The Haka is a Maori ceremonial performance that conveys pride, strength and respect. I read a comment somewhere that when Australians write songs about our country we write love songs.
we aren't so jingoistic as Americans, we don't normally bother flying the flag or sticking our state emblems on our vehicles but were sure are proud of our land and we consider New Zealand a relative so we are proud when they do well also
Yep. And as an Aussie it was great to see New Zealand do so well at the Olympics with 10 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals not bad for a country of barely 5 million people. Well done and a fantastic effort.
Judith Durham had suffered a stroke, so she sat and didn't move her affected arm. What a trooper. Bruce Woodley, wrote this, Greg Potger, and Athol Guy, with his double Bass. Were all the original band members in the 60's, and all did well to do this a few years ago.
Judith had such a spectacularly beautiful voice. Yep, tears of pride and joy well up when I hear this song and I've heard it countless times. Australians will appreciate you for just being real man, don't try to be anything else. Great job!
I think Australians are very patriotic but in a different way to the US. Of course this is a generalisation, but I feel for most Australians it is personal, almost reverential and doesn’t need to be outwardly demonstrated. It is also not blind.
There are many of us that believe this song should be our national anthem. It describes our country so well and includes us all. It so good a song, it makes me cry...

The Kiwis are our cousins across the ditch, we have a very special bond. We've just been watching the Olympics in Paris and I've been busy cheering the Kiwis along with our own Aussie athletes, happy to see them winning gold. As you can imagine, 'I am Australian' is like a national anthem to us. I always get emotional hearing The Seekers sing this beautiful song and I really loved your comments. Great reaction, Thank you.😊
The operative word here is Australian. Not many New South Welshmen, or Victorians with their state flags flying. A great feeling to be an Aussie, albeit an expat. 🇦🇺👏👏 Keep up the great work mate
So true. There’s very few lines we draw “a line under” and pit Viccie against New South Welshman or South Aussie vs Queenslander. We all truly consider ourselves to be of 1 single nation, not a nation divided by states and territories to the point like Americans do. The only real time you’ll see the Australian flag everywhere is in Australia Day. Our two greatest adversaries are Cyclone and Bushfire - any time those disasters strike, the states and territories literally unite in every sense of the word.
Judith having suffered a stroke a year previous to this concert and at age 71 here. I commented in the other Seekers song reaction, Judith still brought forth her angelic strong voice in her 70s. We lost both Judith and Olivia Newton John in the same week in 2022 😢.

They had a string of hits in the mid 1960's, and eventually broke up. Obviously reunited. When this was made the female lead Judith Durham had already faced severe health issues, so this was a final good-bye concert. This how they retired the group "Seekers" once and for all. The male lead, Bruce Woodley co-wrote the song in 1987. As good as it gets
G'day mate, I just wanted to say I enjoyed this reaction immensely. I am descended from Mannalargenna who was chief of the Ben Lomond tribe in Tasmania which later became Palawa (He's on Google). My Great Grandfather was Henry James Everett who was grandson to Mannalargenna. I am also descended from Prince Matarra (died in 1808) son of Nga Ra and Te Pahi and was New Zealand Maori. He cut down Captain Cook's (the English explorer credited for 'discovering' Australia lol) mast when he visited New Zealand lol. I live in a small country town in the bush and I'm intensely proud to be Australian. Australia the "Lucky Country". The Seekers performed at London's Wembley "All-Star Poll Winners Concert" with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, and The Who. The Seekers knocked the Beatles out of the number one spot. The Seekers' first three singles reached number one in the UK, including "I'll Never Find Another You" and "The Carnival Is Over". "The Carnival Is Over" outsold The Beatles and The Rolling Stones in 1965. The song "I am Australian" was written in 1987 by The Seekers member Bruce Woodley in collaboration with Dobe Newton
The tv show "Dallas" was a huge hit down under, back in the day. Who Shot JR? was as big a discussion point down here, as it was in the U.S. So, many Aussies of that vintage knew a lot of "tv facts" of Texas, pre-internet.
@@ariadnepyanfar1048 love it! - just need to identify the indigenous cultures, landform features and significant characters and you're off and running. As an Aussie, I wouldn't know how to fill in the blanks but it would make a sure hit. One thing I am sure, people from both sides of US politics want to close the divide but those that benefit from it are setting the narrative. I wish you all peace and happiness over the next few months.
I love your reactions, because I feel your genuine nature really comes through in them. I also appreciate the sentiment you shared about serving and feeling that pride and connection with country, and how you can see it's the same with us. Here in Australia we do have some state pride, particularly when it comes to sports like Rugby League's 'State of Origin', played between QLD and NSW every year. Or friendly rivalries and jokes about other states. However, maybe it's because of our smaller population in comparison to the US that we feel more of a general pride as Aussies that far, far outweighs any state pride, and also being so very isolated (distance-wise) from the rest of the world, we tend to stick together and help each other out. So that's it. Just FYI, Australia and the US are almost the same size in terms of land mass, but we only have around 27 million people to your 330+ million. Anyway, keep it up! Glad you're enjoying our great Aussie music!
This was kinda forgotten for a long time then the national public broadcaster (ABC, like BBC or PBS) used it as a station promo which surged it back into the national consciousness
We don't have to fly flags to know our country is awesome... we just know. If someone was flying a flag and shouting about it, I'd actually be a bit worried! PS if you are listening to this and love it, you are Australian... as the song says, we come from everywhere. It's ok that you are Texan or American as well. You have listened to enough Australian pop culture now, that you are Australian. Thanks matey

This is the one!!❤
As a Tasmanian I believe this should be the national anthem. It represents us the best, better than Waltzing Matilda or Advance Australia Fair.
Geez America needs this lyric right now
..from all the world we come. I am, you are, we are ‘American.
Thanks for the comment
Your reactions make me even prouder, and one of the reasons I watch reactions thankyou.
This was kinda forgotten for a long time then the national public broadcaster (ABC, like BBC or PBS) used it as a station promo which surged it back into the national consciousness
I love Australia. Best country in the world. I don't look at Australia with Rose coloured glasses we have our faults.
I'm not crying, you are.... 🥹🥹❤❤❤❤
Love this song and I am proud to be an Australian! Thank you for reacting!
This video popped up in my recommendations so I decided to check it out. Awesome channel. Subscribed.
Thanks Andy.
Love Texas. Fly that flag ❤
love your work mate
Thank you❤
Hi Mike, thanks for doing this reaction it’s good to hear what my American brothers think. ❤
This always gives me a chill, even though I am not an Australian. There is a movie about Ned Kelly.
I agree this would definately would make a great anthem.
I've seen lots of reactions to this (and I'm always fascinated by them), but I get the impression you understood it a bit deeper than most.
Loving your Australian artists reactions. Was hoping this would come up. They even out-did the Beatles at one point!
Australias unofficial anthem, everyone loves it... don't worry there's many of us out there trying to trash Australia, but theres too many of us that still love our country for the good and the bad....
This is the one. Cheers, mate.
We are "humble".
About one in four Australian Citizens were born overseas.
Mate, I'm a born and raised Queenslander and a proud Australian.
I love the versions done by the ABC that incorporate indigenous languages
