I remember seeing Spilt Enz at a small club in Australia I think in 75. When they arrived, they were dressed normally, but they went and changed, took them a while, when they came out, they were wearing bright and unusual clothing for the time, and their hair and makeup was very shall I say different, they didn't even look like the same people that had arrived earlier. Their music, like their looks, was what I'd call quirky at that time. They have done a lot of stuff, that I really like, since I first saw them.

Conflicted feelings with this one, a favourite Paul Kelly song, also a eulogy song played at my little sister’s funeral. Now I cry every time I hear it, beautiful sad xoxo

Paul has over 200 songs that you could react to LOL he is one of the best songwriters ever and can bring people together for the length of the song as they all have meaning to them as Pauls lyrics seem to connect with most people as they can relate to them

I watched Split Enz live for their final concert in 1984. Neil Finn was a member along with his older brother, Tim. Neil went on to form Crowded House.

Powerful and ethereal. In an age of pop you can see why outside of the Antipodes the radio jocks of the world would have been at an absolute loss to know how to fit this music to their economic model.

IMHO, kiwi singers were never vocally up there , straining and off key at best, but Jenny was probably the only artist that could actually sing.

This was the soundtrack of my childhood. Grew up in New Zealand when Enz were at the height of their fame. I suppose the best way you could describe them would be 'Prog Rock'? 'Art Pop'? Kinda similar to early Genesis. But in many ways they simply were their own thing and defied description. Was lucky to see them perform live many times.

Hi Mike yes these songs from Split Enz were absolutely thrashed on the radio in New Zealand for decades after they came out and still are around now. "I hope I never " was probably the slowest ballad they did and does not really represent the main sound of Split Enz. Most songs were a lot more up beat. I would say dam near every NZ home would have had at least 1 Split Enz record in the collection. The brother Neil Finn's band was "Crowded House" which musically was superior . We got in the front row of their concert in Palmerston Nth (Tim Finn played in the band as well that day) and I had never heard such a perfect image of the record with zero mistakes from anyone. ( and No they didnt do a Milli Vanilli and cheat ). Great memories. Cheers from NZ
