Then it’s hard not to have the feels kick in when you hear…we are one and we are many. Others out in countries would feel the same way. Singing it together with that deep echoing emotion of land of home. Yeah I think many can relate to this song, feel it place it to where home is end remember the pride and love we feel in the hearts for our countries.
As an Aussie we NEED this as our anthem. It represents every single Australian from first nations people to those immigrating here from abroad to those born in Australia
I'm not Aussie, but, when I heard this song for the first time while watching this video, I thought it would make for such an awesome national anthem. I don't know the background on why "Waltzing Matilda" was chosen as the Australian national anthem, but in spite of the sentimental value and history, "I Am Australian" should be selected to replace it. It's a song that I think evokes pride in being Australian and is an incredibly unifying song. Good on ya mates! I hope it happens.
As an Australian, I can tell you that many of us desperately want "I am Australian" to be our national anthem - and we have for a long time. Just like this crowd, when the song comes on, we all can't help but sing along. You can see the reverence we hold for the song when the crowd and coaches join in. It's beautiful, and wholly Australian 🇦🇺💕
Perhaps after you have removed from office the bugs, serpents and slime that festers in your government, "I am an Australian" will truly and naturally become your anthem. Onward and upward.
I'm not Australian, nor have I ever heard that song. But this video really touched me. It isn't always about a perfect voice; sometimes storytelling takes over. This was excellent songwriting and storytelling. These lovely gentlemen were so sweet. They were more concerned about the future of other talent than stroking their own egos. What a class act.❤❤ God bless our cousins in the AU, with love from Oregon, USA. ❤🙏🇦🇺

Do they do petitions in Australia? Maybe you could start a petition drive. Judging from the comments, everybody would sign - literally 99.9%. Then deliver it to Parliament, or whatever your equivalent is to our Congress. Anyway, it's just a suggestion to think about.
@@SonGoku-tz9vt I remember that came up in the U.S. coverage of the 2000 Olympics; as I recall there were four choices but only remember three: God Save the Queen, Advance Australia Fair (which won), Waltzing Matilda, and one other-and it was put to a national vote…
@@SonGoku-tz9vtThe Government did a public opinion poll in 1974 asking the population to vote on three songs Advance Australia Fair (the winner and the most appropriate), Waltzing Matilda (the runner-up - a bush ballad by the famous poet Banjo Paterson - we love it, and while it's a very Australian story, it's not about Australia as a nation and therefore wasn't really appropriate), and The Song of Australia (written by a German, and it's sounds like it). I Am Australian wasn't written until 1987. A more popular cover version from 1997 was used by the Australian republican movement in its campaign for an Australian Republic, and it has since been used at the Sydney Olympics and other sporting events and is taught in primary schools. So, it's popularity didn't really take off until the early 2000s, and since then there have been more calls to change national anthem because our current one doesn't acknowledge our First Nation's peoples.
As an American, I find this song to be fantastic. It's such a positive song, and it's like a mini history of Australia. I could easily see this as a national anthem.

I'm not from Australia, but I lived there for four years during my early twenties. This amazing country shaped me into who I am today and taught me to be independent and face the world head-on. I'll definitely go back to visit and give back to the community because it has a special place in my heart. Aussies are absolutely amazing people, chill, funny, and good blokes inside out!
The song could be for all… And Aussies are welcoming of all who are here to look after each other, and for a fair deal. Canadians seem to me to be closest cousins as a country full of generous and congenial people.
Now that's something you'll never see again! When they stepped aside so that the next generation could achieve the next step in their journey. Pure class 👏
I definitely respect their choice-but it would have been fun to see how far they could have gone; wish there was some kind of wild card that would have let them stay in.
