    Thank you so much for posting these videos! I'm a new rider and have been integrating the techniques I've learned from them.
    I recently upgraded my stock clutch and friction plates and the springs with a higher-quality stiffer Hinson kit. I converted my cable clutch actuator to the Magura hydraulic style. Huge difference in both grip and ease of use!
    I've been practicing my ability to slip the clutch. With this technique, I've been able to conquer more technical terrain on the first try and have incurred less bumps, bruises, AND bike damage in the process.

      +Bryan Rowley great to hear bryan... i used to be very lazy with my clutch until two years ago and it makes a big difference as you start to get the hang of it. :)

    Man what can I say.... this should be training video #1, thats one thing I love to play around with, and practicing clutch and throttle control has made the balance exercises easier.
    I'm always pissed that I can't GO somewhere to ride, but doing these drills IS riding, and then when the dirt bike gods allow me to ride some trails, I'm better for it!

    Thank you so much for taking the time to make and show these videos. I have watched them time and time again so useful and informative. Brilliant !
    I've mastered the one finger clutch on my trials bike a huge step forward in control for me. However my enduro has got such a heavy cable clutch I've been on the verge of changing the bike as a result, a bike I love ! I definitely will be fitting a Clake with the hydraulic conversion.
    Keep the videos coming and you've got my vote on the film no problem

    In this video you mentioned you've got a separate video on how to drop the clutch and, "zapping"? Could you point me towards that video? I'd like to know more basically exactly what you do to the clutch when you need to ride and slip the clutch like say going uphill and stuff. Like do you always have to start at full engagement whenever you apply the clutch, or can you also do partial engagement of the clutch?

    What cross training skills can a person practice on a dr650? Because that's what I've got. Love the bike...but bunny hopping? When I attempted that several times this morning in the California desert, I actually heard the DR laugh at me. What CAN I work on though? Please do some videos specifically for heavy bike techniques and skills. Or...are the techniques actually 90% the same?

    Love these vids, great information for all of us. However, not everyone myself included can do the 1 finger clutch operation bit. Just like The Donald I suffer from smaller hands and while I can reach the clutch lever with 1 finger my poor index finger is just not strong enough to pull it in.
    I suspect that Clake clutch lever would be the ticket for me but holy crap they are spendy, mine as well get a Rekluse aye?

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      problem i found with the rekluse a few years back was those heavier springs made it really hard to pull the clutch in for gear changes etc, not sure if the current models are still the same.

    • @GeneMcEntire
      @GeneMcEntire 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea I've noticed that with some of the different models and bikes. I've had a few different types on multiple bikes and have noticed that myself. I run a Core EXP 3 on my 450 XCF and it feels 100% identical to stock. Had a Z start pro on my 09 300 XC and that made the clutch an easy 1 finger pull, super light. I had a reg z-start on a old 300 and that was really tough to pull but it was not meant to even be use able and they were right, it was not!
      Wish we had some re-sellers of that Clake here in the US, would love to check it out...!

  • @0cernnunos0

    First of all I have canceled my Thailand visit. I consiously got myself a 125 2 stroke, sicnificantly less power than a 250 2T. I am using (have to) use the clutch frequently so that I don't get the bike stolled, I belive because of that I am a little better in clutch control then my bodies.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Erdat Çataloğlu sounds good, erdat. one of our guys deliberately chose a 125 trials bike because it would force him to learn good clutch technique. he will move to a bigger bike eventually...

    How does slipping clutch improve traction? In regards to uphill climbs, I know slipping the clutch will help prevent wheelies. But don’t understand how it would help with traction.
    Thanks

    • @crosstrainingenduro

      It smooths out the power, no sudden bursts that will get the rear wheel spinning.

  • @the2strokepotato17

    I was wondering if you could mount a camera to you handlebars that would film your fingers to show your clutch control? I think it would be another interesting way to see how often the clutch is used.
    I've been riding motorbikes for years now but never had the confidence and money to do my test. I'd always put it off or sell my road bike and spend money on my motocross bike lol. Then redo my cbt buy another road bike and never do my test...
    Nows a different story, i got the money and 5 bikes but no liscence to legally use them on the road, so I went and done my test. I done it all perfectly except for I done it all too fast so i failed haha. The only thing besides speed tgey commented on was my fingers. FINGERS!!! They don't like you having a finger or two on the clutch and brake levers. "FINGERS FINGERS!!!" "I can't help it! I can't break habbit!!"😂 So during this course I done for my test I was know as 'fingers'

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      an unusual nickname... fingers lol. a few guys asked for a second camera on the clutch but the video editing takes so long that dong split scenes as well would probably land me in an asylum. :(

  • @aswedvxc

    I've got that dropping clutch is the thing that you rev a bit and simply dropping clutch fully. And now slipping clutch is the one that I should use when RPM gets low on hill climb right? So I apply a little amount of clutch for short period of time as I rev up, then power will come up again right? Then is it like very short time applying clutch? I heard many around me says I will wear out my clutch if I keep using slipping clutch that long time. How about you? Do you slip clutch short period of time and as RPM comes up you fully drop it? So many questions! Please give me some advice dirt bike professor.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Youngje Shin i never liked slipping my clutch because i thought i would wear it out too fast. but they are incredibly long wearing, i have never worn out clutch plates, and i don't know anyone who has replaced theirs. i think motocross guys would wear theirs out fast, they slip them a lot at high rpm out of corners, but for our sort of riding, they will last for years. when do you slip the cluch for a long time? any time traction is poor e.g. mud, creek beds, wet rocks. advanced riders will slip the clutch up hill climbs (we'll do a vid on that soon).

    • @aswedvxc
      @aswedvxc 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES Thank you for reply. I once worn my clutch out when I rode 125 exc. At that I maybe I used too high RPM. I recently bought TE250 and am being adapted to this new one. I can't wait for clutch up hill climbs video! Have a great day.

      Juan Carlos Jaramillo nov 2014. it's caused a lot of debate as graham has never actually mentioned using rekluse or supporting them. some are speculating that rekluse pays some top riders to just use their sidecovers for extra oil capacity... i should have asked graham when i interviewed him back in november 2014.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Dorian Schramm i'd say it was already worn out dorian, unless you were slipping it a lot for minutes at a time and cooked the clutch plates. we slip ours all the time and no one has worn theirs out in the past 18 months...

    • @dramm33
      @dramm33 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, that could be it, but even so, my bike as less than 100 hrs. On my last ride I was got stuck in a muddy hillclimb because of some ruts that started showing up. To get pass them I was in 2nd, sometimes 3rd gear, doing a back and forth motion while keeping mid to high revs and slipping the clutch. Could be it? Slipping at higher revs? Thanks and keep improving your skill so we can learn from you :)

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Dorian Schramm if the bike was actually stopped, then rocking backwards and forwards while slipping the clutch in third gear would be quite stressful on the clutch for sure... i'd definitely knock it back to first gear in those cases.

    I haven't redone my clutch for a long time, so when I slip it it grabs on and off and I can feel it clacking under my seat. Makes me cringe every time.

      +Joe Mamma hmmm, sounds like you'll only get another 20,000km out of those plates joe lol! if it's a ktm you may have just notched the clutch basket? they are known for doing that so possibly your plates are still okay but just catching on the basket...

      billy leverton ??! we know almost nothing about good riding, and even less about weight loss lol. all the usual tips i guess... avoid fad diets but make permanent lifestyle changes. avoid crap food, eat healthily. exercise. ride as much as you can. keep meals smaller. scrap all foods with a high glycemic index e.g. avoid sugars and simple carbs. focus on foods that your body takes longer to break down.

    Why not use an auto clutch like what rekluse makes. Your bike won't stall so you don't have to constantly slipping the clutch. You can also use the clutch lever if you want but you don't ever have to.

    if i raced still i would use a rekluse as it is beneficial in so many situations. howerver, i ride for fun and feel like it is more fun without it. some uphills are still challenging to me that my buddies with the rekluse aren't even sure what gear they are in. i dunno. we go round and round about it. i think they are cheating little bitches lol ;)

    You pull the clutch lever in slightly. Pretty hard skill I guess.

    Imma argue with you real quick. 2 fingers are fine for clutchwork

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      sure a few of the top competitors still ride that way. and plenty of clutches are heavy enough to need two fingers too.... :)
