  • crosstrainingenduro.com tractionerag.com How to dismount instead of crash on dirt bikes (at low speed). We watched the top riders for how they dismount and avoid low speed crashes on their dirt bikes or enduro bikes, great for short riders with short legs! How to ride dirt bikes using enduro skills and dirt bike techniques - just like the top riders! The basics of planning how to dismount when things go wrong can prevent crashes, injuries and make hard technical riding much safer. So... How to dismount instead of crash on dirt bikes?

    How to dismount instead of crash on enduro bikes. So hopefully you can dismount and step off your dirt bike, avoid crashes or know how to crash an enduro bike, and dismount like the top extreme enduro riders do. If you watch experienced enduro riders with a trials background, their low speed crashes don't even look like crashes. They jump off as if that's they planned to do all along. Or they gently lay their bike down as if it's afternoon nap time. These vids provide insights on how to ride dirt bikes through free enduro training vids, featuring riding techniques from Chris Birch, Graham Jarvis and other top extreme enduro riders to form the concept of cross training - a blend of trials and enduro techniques.
    A well known saying from motocross is 'If in doubt, gas it!' but in the extreme enduro world it seems the opposite is true... 'give up early and work out how to get off the bike'. Cross training blends trials and enduro techniques so these enduro training vids feature many dirt riding skills and trials techniques for better off road riding.
    These guys come from a trials background where the bikes are so light even we gumby riders can usually keep them under control when things go wrong. But put us on enduro bikes and it usually ain't so pretty... especially for shorter riders. What is the common feature of all the world's best extreme enduro riders? They are all former trials champions who applied who have applied trials techniques to their dirt riding skills to tackle some of the world's toughest extreme enduro events. They learn how to dismount instead of crash to save themselves. As you get the hang of it, you can try to dismount and keep control of the bike in many situations. Trials riding may not appear to share much with dirt riding - much of the action happens at walking speed - but the balance, precise, traction and clutch skills help with enduro riding, especially for hard enduro and avoiding crashes. The growing interest in extreme enduro led to an upsurge in trials riding riding internationally, and many dirt riders are now joining trials clubs to improve their overall technique in dismounting instead of crashing.

    Hi, I'm fairly new to big dirtbikes, I'm 20 and had a small 110 when I was little. I just recently got a used 2013 KX250F and I am loving it so far. I've been riding trails as well as a local MX track. I haven't wrecked yet (knock on wood) and I'm very careful. I see your videos and it seems that these bikes are extremely durable but I'm still scared to drop mine. I try to take as good care of my stuff as I can.

    Great video! I'm healing from a crash where the front end washed out in a sandy corner. The most I've learned from that crash and watching your videos, is to STAND UP!! I was sitting when I went through the sandy corner, it wasn't very fast or tight so standing would've worked much better. So again I say thank you for showing how important it is for me to stand when I ride.

    thanks a BUNCH for all of the value that you have put up on this channel! last year before I went to Moab, I brushed up on all of the videos and spent a couple days just goofing around and practicing what I saw.
    I was able to keep up with and follow my more experienced friends on their new 350 ktms while I was/am clowning around on my drz400e!
    I'll look into this patreon thing or throw you some bones via Paypal, I truly believe in value for value. and you should head out to Moab or the rocky mountains! start a patreon for the trip! I assume once you get here, you'd have enough people kind enough to put you up for free and show you around.

    Great tips. Watching this has made me realise that pretty much all of my 'offs happen when I can't keep the bike upright when its not moving - usually due to a stall on a hill-climb. I will give this planned-dismount approach a try for sure. Cheers!

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rob McDermott the static balancing can make a huge difference too rob, the extra balance can often prevent getting out of shape and needing to dismount at all. i saw a massive improvement for all the guys in tough terrain once they could balance at a standstill: th-cam.com/video/kPFp0i9hNpA/w-d-xo.html

  • @maverick2242
    @maverick2242 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not sure if you have covered this in other vids Barry, which are great btw, love them,
    but also prevention is better than the cure! Lack of commitment (esp as we get older, as our Brain's are more risk adverse which actually imo puts us more at risk, eg in no mans land, between trying and committing) and is also the difference between the good rider and the gumby rider!
    If you use too little momentum or too little commitment the dismount will be the only option!
    People often try something but the lack of commitment ( brain fear controls the throttle ) means the dismount will get plenty of practice! Most times not enough momentum, which does require more throttle esp say the hill climb, then it's clutch control, but people's brain tells them the throttle off then turn it back on hence the ghost technique or the undignified dismount to the expansion chamber side!
    Grip it and rip it! Then clutch it out!
    Also if you are going to drop your bike, esp a 2 stroke practice dropping it on the non exhaust side of the bike which almost always is the high side so a better place to land it and save that expansion chamber from another dent!! And then ride off!
    Back in my racing MX youth I used to go out the back of the farm in a muddy paddock and practice crashing in the mud so I could learn to crash and reduce the chance of injury!
    Never hurt myself doing this or damaged my bike so must have worked.
    Cavet is I have broken my neck, my back, my leg and my arm four times since those days! Ah the years of youth get away with anything, not nowadays!

    I had a low speed bail off a 3 ft ledge while traversing it very close to the edge. No where to plant foot so I went over. As I dismounted in air(to the right) and the bike came over on me. My right leg planted on the slope below and my knee blew out bad. Always thought I’d get hurt at high speed.

      in my experience, riding the slow gnarly stuff has led to less big injuries over time but just lots of constant bruises from falling off at a standstill. but of course the big ones still happen, such as my current spine fracture from coming down a steep desecent.

It is funny how we evolve into different people as we learn new things. I am amazed at what different riding skills and ideals can do to change a perspective on dirt bikes. As I got into riding later in life I was already thinking about how to have fun, be fast and enjoy riding without tearing up the land, my body and equipment. Through your vids I have had the chance to learn and try new skills and ways to ride. I (newb off-roading dual sporter) have not seen anything like this, offered as “sketchy places” riding lessons. Nice! It’s probably not in my best interest to try and learn this (at 68), as I’m not so buoyant as you kids, but it’s quite enticing.

      Welcome to dual sport, Peter! I'm a few years behind you and I find I'm not jumping off the bike anywhere near as quickly as I used to... so I'm just dialing back the risks to survive my rides nowadays. 😊

    I'm catching up on all of the old vids I haven't watched yet (6 months worth! How'd that happen?) Getting good at stepping off is absolutely the way to go in anything technical---say under 10 mph (15 kph). I'm amazed at how many vids I see where people launch their bikes from basically a standstill.
    However, the "when in doubt, throttle out" mantra DEFINITELY applies when at speed. Going through a corner and the front end washes out? Punch it. Getting a bit of huck-a-buck through a set of whoops? Lean back and give it more gas. Same deal if there's suddenly a big hole in the trail that you didn't see coming. In open desert riding, it's like a way of life. I estimate that it saves me 8 times out of 10, gets me in more trouble 1 time, and I wouldn't''ve saved it either way the remaining time

    I've been trying to practice some of the basics in the early videos, but I'm still lucky if I can mount the bike most days, let alone jump a 4' log halfway up a 85* incline and still make it to the top without displacing even the smallest particle of dirt via wheel spin.
    I am good at watching videos, however.

    I had an unfortunate crash on a first gear wheel hop through a wash out at old Caloundra road recently and ended up breaking my fibular due to the crash. I didn't let the bike warm up enough and it bogged when I wanted it to power on then the power came in as the back wheel dropped in to the rut. I didn't try to dismount but instead heald on and this caused the bike to loop over and land on my leg. Lesson learned there but struggling to re gain the confidence for the first time in my life. I've ridden bikes for the last 20 years but this one rattled me. I guess because I don't bounce like I used to

      +CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES yeah, i'm super excited for that light of a bike finally. I basically shot my mod-wad on my dr though, so i'm gonna have to go lightly($) on the cr. i'll definitely need to look into a bash plate that protects the pipe now that you mention (i really hope something is out there for that because endurocross/trials type of riding is THE reason i want a light smoker over my dr) so i sincerely thank you for bringing that point up-I had spaced that off entirely. damn! (i've never owned a two-stroke). Some bark busters too, and about it for mods(i "say", but "doing" is always something else entirely it seems, right?) :-)

    Thank you for the time spent on your videos sir. An alternative examination will help even the most 1337 riders. Plenty of handpicked edited clips to observe physics in action. I am a person just like many whom seeing things in real life action is almost as good as doing it myself, as long as you can imagine yourself doing it in 3 dimensions just as you were there like they just did. If someone else did it, you could do it too. Our brain only sees a pseudo-interpretation of the real world from our senses(arguable how many there are), not necessarily the truth. As long as the physics of your imagination is true, your imaginative reality may not be much difference away from the real life experience of it.
