- What do new dirt riders need to know? We asked a pile of experienced guys for their tips. Welcome to our Cross Training Enduro channel! The basis is an introduction on how to ride dirt bikes with almost 100 free enduro training vids. Cross training is a blend of trials and enduro techniques. Wheel spin and slides look great but in most cases mean you losing control of the bike to some extent. So get into our dirt riding tips. The top extreme enduro riders will only lose traction deliberately for certain dirt riding techniques, such as locking up the rear brake to line themselves up into a tight turn. Maintaining traction is a critical skill in cross training, see it all in our dirt bike videos. Everything in tough gnarly terrain is trying to throw you off balance, so balancing lays a strong foundation for enduro skills for guys like Jonny Walker and Ruben Chadwick. Trials riders can balance at a stand still for as long as they like. Watching top trials riders like Graham Jarvis, Chris Birch or Tim Coleman is like poetry in motion - from a standing start they can flip their bikes in mid air through 180 degrees, or climb a six foot vertical wall. Great dirt riding techniques. A key part of moves like this is the use of body positioning and 'weighting' - choosing when to exert pressure on the pegs and when to 'de-weight' or lift the bike up. Cross training means you will almost always be standing on the pegs and learning how to use your body weight and positioning to maximum effect. Cross training has a strong focus on being able to balance on your enduro bike, even at a stand still - this is a handy skill when you have minimal run up to your next obstacle. Balance also means you can spend more time standing on the pegs in tough terrain instead of sitting down, so you will have far more control of your bike.

Blast from the past! Some time ago, I stopped creating weekly supporter videos for viewers who were financially helping to keep the channel afloat. I'm slowly releasing a few of the more popular ones so you may have seen the much shorter version a few years ago. Enjoy!
Some viewers have noticed the performance-enhancing pink tassles on my handlebars. Well, all I can say is who needs enemies with friends like this? 😂 One of them transported my bike to a hard enduro event and when I got there he had it all decked out in pink stuff. He claimed it would give an extra five hp so I left it all on for the event.
In my mind I'm Graham Jarvis, on video I'm a squid on two wheels
Same here. Although in my mind I'm also Billy Bolt which is confusing he starts arguring with Jarvis in my head. 🤔
Thanks for the inspiration to become a better rider, Barry! We are into the coldest part of winter here in Sweden now, but the riding can still be excelent when you dare to challenge the cold. Not that bad right now though, its around -10C and just a little snow. In these conditions the speed actually is bit higher compared to summer riding.
Ride safe!!
It must be hard to get going sometimes, Ulf. In Canada I finally did some fairly cool riding.... starting at 4C and it warmed up to 8C during the day. For an Australian that felt like Arctic conditions lol. It was great once I warmed up but hard to get motivated at the beginning. Hard to imagine -10C!
Besides the obvious valuable information and advice, served with a good dose of humor, your videos are always dressed with very good soundtrack :)
Glad you like them!
Coaching is key. Riding with better riders and working on cleanly riding stuff that is out of your comfort range. I've coached and been coached and been coached to coach.. It really is the way to success.
Right on
Once again he strikes with a premium content and i just love your choice of background music. Thank you😊
My pleasure 😊
I'm still rocking one of those 2018 GG's. Im likely to upgrade shortly but, for such a heavy pig that thing is still quite the hard enduro machine.
Thanks for the tips! I love your videos, cheers from Brasil.
learning the new tricks , kicking the bad habits is hard. I try to think back after an obstacle and go over the points where I didn't follow good technique
That last song hit pretty good
It's nice getting your vid emails, motivates me to get out and ride. Unfortunately currently nursing a torn rotator cuff so I've even cut out the mountain biking. I'll just have to live vicariously through you for now. :-)
Great to hear! I hope you don't vicariously get a spine fracture like me though lol. I hope the rotator cuff heals up 100%...
I’ve got a 20 to 25% tear in both shoulders. I’ve been doing physical therapy for it and it’s really helped a lot. I really don’t want to get surgery so PT it is! At least I can ride now.
I’ve been looking at dirt training. I definitely need more.
Good vid Barry, looking forward to warmer days.
Thanks Chuck! And we are looking forward to the cooler ones over here. 😊
I think learning to ride slow well makes recreational riding more enjoyable too as you aren't fighting the bike when just trying to relax and have fun. Still working on that myself.
Great videos for me to watch this time of year. I can watch some good riding while the wind is blowing and the snow is coming down outside. If I wasn’t such a wuss I go out and ride in the cold. But alas I’m a wuss😝
I'd like to try it some time just for the experience, Dave. The closest I got was a 4C ride in Canada with a bit of light snow falling in fall. Brrrrr!
Great video. I'm doing a weekend dirt school in the spring. I also need to make time for balance training.
Which coach is that, Jon? We always do some static balance while we warm the bikes up... gets the body warmed up too!
@crosstrainingenduro I'm in Maryland, and there is one in Pennsylvania and one in Virginia with their own tracks and land.
hes doing well that Coxy fella, hopefully racing you in 2022 buddy
Happy new year Burnsy...
Looks like coxy has been riding trials, which helps a lot
Actually I think he bought a trials bike after this was filmed. But he had been definitely learning various trials skills on his dirt bike for a few years when we filmed this.
@@crosstrainingenduro yeah I finally got one and have been amazed by how much difference it makes
Am I really the first one to talk about the pom poms on the handles :D
Who needs enemies with friends like this? 😂 One of them transported my bike to a hard enduro event and when I got there he had it all decked out in pink stuff...
That was my favorite part 😍!!
Who do you recommend for coaching in canberra?
I don't know, I'm two states away....
Could we fill in the river and turn it into a motorway? With lots of services and Costas! And American sweet shops!
I could use some tips for a below average rider please.
5:24 eat well and drink better. Remember, every beer adds 10 hp.
😁
ride with someone just a little bit better than you
what the actual fvk is going on with the pink tassles on the handlebars???
As per another comment.... Who needs enemies with friends like this? 😂 One of them transported my bike to a hard enduro event and when I got there he had it all decked out in pink stuff.
@@crosstrainingenduro Dirt bikers sense of humor, if you get it, you get it, if you don’t…
Sometimes you have to have thick skin in this sport, so it’s better not to get mad, as that can be perceived as weakness. Haha! I’m 57, I still ride, and my buddies are still savage. No mercy. 🏁💀
It's half the fun, having a go at each other lol
Who u callin' "average"???
Anyone within 2.36 standard devations of the mean...
or √Σ(xi - xbar)2 / (n-1) 😎
I think every ride makes you a better rider but you need to push yourself, lollygagging around ain't gonna do it. Trick is ride with better riders.
I haven't even watched yet but I'm 110% certain this will be extremely dodgy "information".
Our equally dodgy guarantee ensures this will be the case. 😎
