If you get slow enough, you'll definitely need to. Anyone from a trials back ground is probably feathering the clutch constantly, but for us everyday trail hacks that might be making it all a bit too complicated when learning.
i can wheely with my bicycle as long as i want which makes learning it on a motorbike especially frustrating. i could do it if i would feel the rear break better through these thick boots.
With good technique, you should be able to wheelie any dirt bike. Lower gearing and/more power just means your technique isn't good... and you need a substitute.
I used to ride with a guy who just seemed completely unable to do wheelie. We would all give him tips but after months and months we gave up. But he didn't. He went out several times a week by himself then suddenly it all clicked and he was doing them everywhere, and in some crazy situations too lol. We thought he was going to kill himself but thankfully he never crashed or flipped it.
@@crosstrainingenduro right, that great story. Two years ago I broke my femur and spine during motocross training. I continue riding but much more careful now that decreases learning speed. I almost learned wheelie, but that "almost" may last for a long time.
I have nearly two acres to practice on at my house. Yet I’m still afraid to even attempt to practice wheelies. Getting hurt and being unable to work is an expensive proposition.
Completely agree, my brother would too as he broke both arms doing a small wheelie before he learned to cover the rear brake. If you learn that technique until it's second nature (I'm talking many hours of practice over months) then most of the risks are gone.
Yup, broke my wrist during a slow wheelie attempt. Two surgeries and permanent carpal tunnel syndrome. I just got a Yamaha TW200 so while a wheelie is possible I'll be happy just keeping both wheels on the ground. I'm 67 and TH-cam broke my wrist.
It depends on so many factors, Alan. But if you are fit, have a reasonably light bike, the right protective gear, enjoy the challenge, and will put the hard yards in with learning to cover that rear brake properly, I reckon you can learn them and do it with minimal risk.
We sittin in here, I suppose to be the franchise player, and we talkin' bout practice? I mean listen, we talkin' bout practice. Not a GAME, Not a GAME, but we talkin' bout Practice! 🤣🤣🤣

At over 60, the extent of my wheelies is being thrilled if I can loft the front wheel over a small tree lying across the trail, and not falling down in the process 🤪👍.
You guys are awesome! After 60? Wow! Good for you. Just to have the genetics to throw your leg over a bike n hit trails is truly something to be admired. I hope I can at that age. The one thing that I've learned with age, is take nothing for granted. Especially when it comes to health. I bet most of us who watch his videos probably already know that. I will say this, I've learned quite a bit from watching these vids. All of us come here to watch n learn have mud in our blood.
For sure Henry, it only reduces the risk... hopefully. But I still think that if covering the rear brake becomes automatic then much of the risk disappears.
hey barry we ova here me and rest of muppets gonna have to do a vid for you all to laugh at its coming soon real riding skills to make any gumby proud loool
Lol it would be much easier to learn some of these skills if… I was taller than 5.7 and my first bike was not a 2009 kx450f at 15 years old. Lol way to big for optimal learning speed but working good so far just super slow to learn. I also have a confidence problem when I only have a inch of foot on the ground when I get on the bike lol and even more so when I feel like I’m going to flip backwards and have a 230lb bike fall on me lol. I’m way stronger than most 125lb 15 year olds but that’s cause I grew up climbing trees and running around so super strong but when your only 125lb it’s hard to manhandle the bike with your weight for balance and stuff too.
I could wheelie my mountain bike all day. And my sled is always catching air. But just can't seem to get the klr650 to walk the walk. Practice you say....I thought it was my mid fifties age...🤣😂🤣🤪.
The KLR just seems to have that extra weight which makes it tough. I find the DR650 wheelies so easily but the extra 20kg or so with the KLR puts it in a tougher bracket... at least for me.
That's probably because each generation is less prepared to put in any work to learn a new skill... and you want instant hacks instead of putting in time and practice. If you can't take five minutes to learn important points, you'll find yourself struggling with life in general.
I think learning this wheelie early is not helping your enduro skills. The first wheelie one should learn to do is while standing and the reason is simple: To master this wheelie you need your foot on the rear break, which requires your butt to be on the seat, but on a real enduro wheelie your foot should be under the pedal in order to hold the balance of rider to bike when the bike gets vertical and your butt should be far from your seat. Learning to wheelie standing (with the ability to pull yourself to the front fender if you have to) is crucial to survive a lot of mishaps in them woods or even jumps and will give you the confidence to keep it pinned.
If you see our video about 'the small practical wheelie' we do focus on the proper wheelie you actually need to know. I believe you should have the rear brake covered for every single wheelie though. You simply adjust your pedal to the height needed so this is possible. We had links to all the wheelie training at the end.
@@crosstrainingenduro Thanks for the response bro! You caught me, the truth is i am not watching riding videos much lately, i responded to the combination of title to thumbnail and people trying to emulate Graham backwards with that wheelie while they shouldn't start there but they do. My inability to learn to wheelie with the foot on the brake when young is what taught me to always balance it out and it turns out it's much more usable when jumping around in trails to keep your mind off the brake as it changes your body stance. When your chin is on the front fender and the bike is up, no break pedal can get that low, your boot goes under it.. try it out but you might need a 250 as i don't ride 300s that way either :P Don't get me wrong about watching, your channel is my favorite but the riding mood here has been low and trying (desperately) to pick it up! @@crosstrainingenduro That was a rhetorical question! LOL

I LOVE vague Pastafarian references.... noodly appendage. 😂
@@dallas_shannon Unlike you reprobates, I only rub my noodly appendage in private, and definitely not while wheelieing! ;-)
Im left footed so my natural instinct when I get close to flipping out is to drop my support leg (R leg down) dooo that's the rear break foot:) My Beta 300 has had 2 x new rear guards from me and one from our mutual friend from Euro Enduro before I got the bike :)
Left hand operated rear brake maybe? I tried using the Ox-brake before but it's fairly weak. I rode a bike once with the Clake SLR and it was great!
@@crosstrainingenduro yeah I remember you reviewed that I have the Clarke 1. I actually bought the ox but haven’t got around to fitting it I was worried about operating the clutch and the break at the same time with the left hand thought I would persevere with trying to cover the foot break for a while longer

I just practiced about two hours, one thing I didn't realize, is do I need to cover the clutch at low speed?
If you get slow enough, you'll definitely need to. Anyone from a trials back ground is probably feathering the clutch constantly, but for us everyday trail hacks that might be making it all a bit too complicated when learning.
@@crosstrainingenduro that makes it easier. Thanks! 👍
i can wheely with my bicycle as long as i want which makes learning it on a motorbike especially frustrating. i could do it if i would feel the rear break better through these thick boots.
It's weird how able to do wheelies on a BMX often doesn't help at all with dirt bikes... and vice versa.
you didnt tell us changing the rear sprocket to low speed ratio? even how many hours of practice it will not work if on the high speed mode
With good technique, you should be able to wheelie any dirt bike. Lower gearing and/more power just means your technique isn't good... and you need a substitute.
I took it a step back and learned balance point wheelies on my mountain bike. Still not a master on my dirt bike...
Excellent video, thanks for the time and effort 👍
Our pleasure, David! If you get into it we've got about five vids in our wheelie training series now.

This video changed my mind! So no I belive in me, I can do that wheeeeelie
There are many excellent fast riders who suck at wheelies. I'm not excellent or fast and I still suck at wheelies.....
😂 Consistency is a great asset, John. I try to suck at most things in my life.
@@crosstrainingenduro Yes! It's the effort that counts:)
This makes you one step closer to being excellent and fast!
So you say watching hours and hours of practice is the key to master this is easy skill?
For the majority of riders? Yes.
YOU MUST WATCH MORE PRACTICE VIDEOS. hahahahahahha
You summed this up perfectly!
@@olddirtbiker5088 "I'm 67 and TH-cam broke my wrist." YER KILLING ME!! hahahaha
I can back that feeling but ultimately agree with Barry. We've been teaching wheelies for some time and mastering the back brake is the key.
But the real question: Do you have socialized medical care?
10,000 hours hmm how many bikes is that,,, haha good stuff as always,
about 30
Can i wheelie a 125 if i weigh 55 pounds
I comes down to technique, not your height, weight or bike size.
Wheelie impressive, Wheelie! 😝
I just turned sixty! Should I even start....
Is your life over at 60?
If not, of course start...
It depends on so many factors, Alan. But if you are fit, have a reasonably light bike, the right protective gear, enjoy the challenge, and will put the hard yards in with learning to cover that rear brake properly, I reckon you can learn them and do it with minimal risk.
Learn to cover the back brake (and use it) first and it takes away all the risk.

I'd definitely take a few few precautions Scott... safety gear, really learn covering the rear brake etc. But I've seen a few guys around 50 put the hard yards in and get very good at them. 😊
And a couple of back fenders...
That all sounds like just too much work. I’ll just keep both wheels on the ground thank you very much. Being over twice 30 makes it an easy decision.😝
Much easier Dave lol. If we want challenges there are far more practical things we can beat ourselves up with!
Ya, but how are you going to get any girls???

Who is the muppet narrating??

@@dallas_shannon That's the spawn of Beaker and the Swedish Chef's chickens.
I think learning this wheelie early is not helping your enduro skills.
The first wheelie one should learn to do is while standing and the reason is simple:
To master this wheelie you need your foot on the rear break, which requires your butt to be on the seat, but on a real enduro wheelie your foot should be under the pedal in order to hold the balance of rider to bike when the bike gets vertical and your butt should be far from your seat.
When your chin is on the front fender and the bike is up, no break pedal can get that low, your boot goes under it.. try it out but you might need a 250 as i don't ride 300s that way either :P
Don't get me wrong about watching,
