I agree with you on all accounts, Mossbag, but I have to say one thing: Hornet can channel and control silk(and most likely Soul) not because of her needle, but because of her heritage. She's the true daughter of the Pale King and Herrah the Beast, making her part spider to produce and control silk, and getting the ability to control Soul from the Pale King.

That is a really interesting theory. So that stone has a pale ore in it, which we know is connected to the Pale King. We see another stone similar to it in the Ancient Basin along with another Pale Ore. My biggest problem with this theory is that these stones look very different from the eggs we see in the Abyss. Okay so I'll just keep rambling as I watch the video since nobody cares. @6:35 you start mentioning the pipes in the background. The motif with pipes and silk lead me to believe that the whole of the kingdom might be a huge organ. No. Not like a spleen. Like a church organ. The classical church organ is one of the most complex pieces of technology that runs without the need for electricity. Everything is moved by a huge set of gears and levers and strings (might be what the silk represents but take it with a grain of salt) and the most important part of a huge church organ are the pipes that it uses. We've all seen 'em once or twice. The thing with those pipes is that there's a shit ton of them since you might want to use different tonalities according to what the piece needs. So there are sets of huge and smaller pipes that you can redirect the air to when in need of a different sound. It's really fucking amazing tbh, and if I were Team Cherry I would play with the idea that the huge organ that is the whole of the kingdom is what the evil dudes may be using to enthrall bugs with their song. And since in a real organ you can actuate mechanisms in order to change the sound, maybe you could actually change the tone of the song so that Hornet may enthrall them with a tune of her own and become the ruler herself, overthrowing the previous bugs in charge. Or maybe you can play a melody that gives them higher thought like the pale king did. @@tovi3280 Yea there's a lot of interesting history regarding bells. Some ancient cultures used them as a way to break bad spells/curses, as well as for spiritual purification or enlightment. Thats what i thought. It would be awesome to have mossbag refrence somewhere. Afterall he is one of the big names on hollow knight community and the name mossbag would fit very well to the world of hollow knight.
It would be cool if there was a hollow knight game where you get to play as the knight before he returns to hallownest hornet mentions he has been to places outside of hallownest and that's why its no surprise he could make it to the heart of hallownest (The city of tears) and this suggests that the knight has some experience from being away from hallownest
my theory is that he escaped the abyss and since there's already someone filling the role of the seal (THK) he just wandered off somewhere. He came back because he felt that THK was weakened and he knew that he had to take his place. This probably happened to other escaped vessels too, but hornet killed them.
@@fiendfi7119 I don't think that it would be the case as in game it says that those who leave hallownest will forget about it : "those foolish enough to traverse this void must pay the toll and relinquish the precious mind this kingdom grants". I think that the knight has left the hallownest, forgot about it and then came back (for whatever reason). This would make even more sense if you take into perspective that knight would be like player that starts first time playing and he is learning about everything from the beginning.
@@emilg2075 The knight has no mind to relinquish, that's sort of the point of the vessels (and the issue with THK). It was probably drawn back because of the seals weakening, coming to fulfill its purpose. As for why it wandered away from the kingdom is entirely speculation.
@@royalfool7 You're probably right, but I was taking into consideration theory that Bat Cat said, which would make no sense if knight would have no mind to relinquish.
Even if the Knight had a mind to lose in the first place, children of the Pale King probably have some degree of an inherent mind considering the Pale King is the one who granted higher thinking to the rest of Hallownest in the first place. Entirely speculation, but worth considering.
Mossbag thanks for putting out these quality videos I really appreciate the work you put into them. It really helps me enjoy the game even more. Thanks!
Imo Hornet is brought to this kingdom because of her strong connection with the weavers/silk. She could already use it in the original Hollow Knight, in both her boss fights we can see her using the silk thing around her body and in particularly in Hornet 2 you can see the spiky traps she lays tied by veeery thin tethers of silk. Besides, when you get to the home of mommy hornet in deepnest, everything, including the puppet dudes that gang up on you when you sit at the sticky bench are connected to the silk theme.
Long live Hornet, Leader of the Weaves and King (Women can be Kings and queen isn't as powerful) of Pharloom and Hallownest! Imagine if Hornet were to wield the powers of Void and Dreams/Nightmares. She would be more powerful than the Knight/God of Gods/Shade Lord/Godmaster!
I mean their blood is purple, but going off the cloth motif, purple was traditionally the color of European royalty because it used to be ridiculously rare, so it could be some kind of royal family pulling all the strings.
You're approaching the release date as though they're making the game from scratch, but Silksong clearly runs on the same engine as before. I don't know how development time breaks down between level design, art, programming, etc, but unless Team Cherry is really doubling down on increasing production value it's likely that Silksong could be considerably faster to produce.
Watching this video in 2021 looks like the biggest joke in my life, when i heard "HK silksong might release early 2020 or end 2019" I just feel...........I cant explain.
13:14 It's possible that they're using a debug mode rather than that being a glitch, that way they don't have to restrict themselves when trying to make fancy trailer shots.
I think mossbag confused the whole Elderbug being younger than Hornet thing. You see... differnet species of bugs have different lifespans. Well as we already know, Hornet is a fucking demigod. So it would be no surprise if she can live for a long time while Elderbug is just a common bug. This means that even if Hornet's age may be older than Elderbug's. If we see it from Elderbug's lifespan then Elderbug is still an old man. That's why he's probably called Elderbug. He's the oldest common bug that isn't a pale being, not a vessel and not a demigod.
1:12 That sounded more like a small chuckle/snicker to me made from Hornet. And I think the eyes widening is more like she's tilting her head up a little, shifting the perspective of her eyes.

I just thought about something. I’m not the best at lore, but what if it has to do with the godhome ending where you give the godseeker the flower. So from what we know about the flowers (I’ll just refer to them as that) in hollow knight is that the grew mourner brought them from a faraway land, which we see more of the flowers during the lace fight. There is potential that the grey mourner got them from there. Now in the godhome ending I mentioned before, it shows the godseeker and the lord of shades being either transported or destroyed, but I think that both were transported to the place where silksong takes place, and that the lord of shades might have interacted with “the masters” as jiji calls them, and when the lord of shades interacted with the masters, something happened because of that which would be why the people at the beginning captured hornet and took her there. That would also explain the enemies that look similar to steel soul jiji, and why they’re trying to kill hornet. It’s just a theory though, and it’s probably wrong. Edit: Maybe the interaction I was theorizing could have to do with the silk that has to do with a lot of stuff in silksong.
Some interesting ideas I had, based on your lore videos and my experiences with the game: Purple is a very frequent color in the Crystal Peak. It is said to have a 'mysterious power', and is frequently seen as having the ability to contain both Radiance corruption (denoted in purple) and void. We also see a Snail Shaman encased in crystal when we get the upgraded Descending Dark spell. So the crystals feature prominently in binding and containment, which could tie into these bugs with a purple taint to them. Also, while there could be a beacon which does as you suggest, I think the beacon actually does the reverse... not necessarily enthralled by silk, but suddenly *empowered* her ability to use Silk. And, as with most superheroes who undergo a power boost unexpectedly, things happen that aren't entirely under her control, like what happened on the bridge. Or it could be that they were somehow repressing her ability to use Silk (otherwise, how else would they keep her in there?), and the beacon suddenly stopped the suppressive thing, letting her use it again suddenly. This could be related to her relationship to her mother? We also know that the Weavers and Hollownest weren't exactly on the best of terms for much of their term, and that there was not just an agreement, but a 'Treaty' with Herrah... typically something which only happens when ending a war. So what if the Pale King had a beacon which reduced the effectiveness of the Weaver's abilities within his realm... and once they crossed the threshold of that beacon, Hornet's ability to use Silk went from, say, a 2 to a 10. She could still use Silk in Hollownest, of course, probably augmented by the fact that she's also related to the Pale King, but act something like the dampening chip Kerrigan got stuck with as a ghost, artificially limiting her powers. Then once it was removed... proceed to Suddenly Curbstomp.
Just thought, enemies specifically using scissors may be doing so in order to be able to cut silk. But then needles & crochet pins are for those who wield silk? I bet we'll see a tuning fork as a proper weapon for someone aligned more with song too! I'd love to get caught in the middle of a fight between Hornet & Lace :D
The scene with the Weaver in the cocoon at 5:30 has Hornet kinda focusing. Maybe that Weaver is a Dreamer equivalent or that could be the last “focus” in one of the endings, similar to the HK’s fight focus.
2:39 I don't know if anyone else mentioned this, or if you go on to, but I think the bugs using scissor blades (especially in the clocktower) might be a reference to the Scissorman from the Clock Tower games. But it's also possible that they're just using sowing sears because it fits with the theme. Or both are true, and Team Cherry was able to make a subtle reference whilst also being on theme.
9:50 I feel the 5 knights could have been potentially used as guards for journeys beyond Hallownest. We know Ze'mer and her flowers are from beyond the fallen kingdom, and we know that the Pale King knows other places beyond Hallownest exist, since it is considered common for Wyrms to make their own kingdoms according to Bardoon. Maybe he and the knights traveled to other kingdoms for some reason (which could provide an explanation as to why the dung defender was shunned from the other knights, why Ze'mer is from another land for example).
9:01 so i googled "lion bug" and it showed the bugs that dig holes in the sand that you can't get out of , the bug is called "ant lion" or "lion hill bug"

my theory is that he escaped the abyss and since there's already someone filling the role of the seal (THK) he just wandered off somewhere.
Mossbag: that gives us a possible release date of late 2019 - early 2020

Mossbag thanks for putting out these quality videos I really appreciate the work you put into them. It really helps me enjoy the game even more. Thanks!

Plot twist: no
Nice thoughts, mossbag. I’m still thinking about the phrase Team Cherry used for the province Hornet is in. “Haunted World.” Pretty interesting.
Milk it more, mossbag daddy
This would sound great out of context.
why
How does The Knight even end up outside of Hallownest at the beginning of the first game? (Just wondering)
We don't know for sure
Climb/crawl his way out like a broken machine?
Void based teleportation?
If my dad made hundreds of kids and then disposed of us all, because we weren’t good enough, I wouldn’t stick around his dying kingdom.
I guess there a breach at the far left of the abyss and the vessel was able to leave that way, who knows?
they used the broken vessel as a battering ram to drill out. That is why he is broken
Hornet injecting herself with lifeblood and leaving the kingdom is actually just a big “fuck you dad, don’t tell me what to do” moment
"Late 2019 to early 2020"
The bug at 2:27 also shares a similar design to the godseeker found in the junk pit. With a Golden head and grey wrapping around the body.
Nice subtle holy trilogy refrence with the menace comment
Or a church. Team Cherry is not afraid to designate gods as villians so why not a church
This is a very fair point. I should have considered that.
@@mossbag69 no
well, we can see how that worked out
@@Notkikc I'd like to think they've doubled down on production value.

3:11 I caught that Jonah Jameson reference 😏
9:04 I feel like “Lions Village” may just be referring to Antlions, not actual Lions. Antlions are a winged type bug.

Nobody:
Mossbag: HMMMM
I think mossbag confused the whole Elderbug being younger than Hornet thing. You see... differnet species of bugs have different lifespans. Well as we already know, Hornet is a fucking demigod. So it would be no surprise if she can live for a long time while Elderbug is just a common bug. This means that even if Hornet's age may be older than Elderbug's. If we see it from Elderbug's lifespan then Elderbug is still an old man. That's why he's probably called Elderbug. He's the oldest common bug that isn't a pale being, not a vessel and not a demigod.
Mossbag, "the release date should be late 2019 to early 2020"
Team Cherry : Laughs
thanks for new vid never clicked so fast
1:13 it´s cool now that we know that she actually didn´t escape before because of the seal of biding, but that was not in the trailer

1:12 That sounded more like a small chuckle/snicker to me made from Hornet.
And I think the eyes widening is more like she's tilting her head up a little, shifting the perspective of her eyes.

Path of pain really was hell
4 years later.
12:00 if there _are_ flashbacks, they could involve Hornet either deciding to or trying to stop the release of the vessels.
Praise Jesus lord mossbag has returned
Some interesting ideas I had, based on your lore videos and my experiences with the game:
Purple is a very frequent color in the Crystal Peak.
I think the new purple boss would be " these are not to scale btw" All the evidence lines up!
Mossbag: Anyone covering their face is a menace.
2020: OoOoH yOu'Re In TrOuBLe
Just thought, enemies specifically using scissors may be doing so in order to be able to cut silk.
But then needles & crochet pins are for those who wield silk?
I bet we'll see a tuning fork as a proper weapon for someone aligned more with song too!
I'd love to get caught in the middle of a fight between Hornet & Lace :D
Omg that “albeit a little turned on” cracked me up! Love your content and these games, you’re awesome!
"late 2019-early 2020"
BOI
The scene with the Weaver in the cocoon at 5:30 has Hornet kinda focusing. Maybe that Weaver is a Dreamer equivalent or that could be the last “focus” in one of the endings, similar to the HK’s fight focus.
6:10
we all just gonna ignore the fact mossbag legit said 'non-binary in relationship rights'
It's 2021 now baby
9:50 I feel the 5 knights could have been potentially used as guards for journeys beyond Hallownest. We know Ze'mer and her flowers are from beyond the fallen kingdom, and we know that the Pale King knows other places beyond Hallownest exist, since it is considered common for Wyrms to make their own kingdoms according to Bardoon. Maybe he and the knights traveled to other kingdoms for some reason (which could provide an explanation as to why the dung defender was shunned from the other knights, why Ze'mer is from another land for example).
“Late 2019 to early 2020”
Umm, about that…
