Thanks for watching! I wanted to share some counters to the points made in this video. It is entirely possible that void has a will of its own, and that it natural takes the form of tendrils that thrash about, given how often they come off of other beings like the Knight and the Lord Shade. The “imprint of Abyss given form” might be like some kind of “footprint” left by some void creature. We don't know for sure that the Black Egg is made of Void. There is a small part of floor in the Ancestral Mound that is similar to the ones we see near Soul Totems. However, this one is not near those totems. This might indicate that the Shamans are connected to the Ancient Civilization in some way. We don’t know for sure that the corpse containing the Colosseum of Fools is a Wyrm. Finally, some mask shards can also be found near these twisted pillars that I mentioned. It would make sense that the ANCIENT masks are connected to the ANCIENT civilization, so this is a nice bit of info for sure.
One thing you have to consider when talking about "rocks" is that ancient bugs COULD have fossilized inside the walls, hence why nearby "rocks" had wills.
re: the Abyss being structured like a well, and asking where the Void would be collected from. Real wells are dug to harvest groundwater. so the implication is that the Void rises up from ground even deeper than the ancient civilization's area, and the Abyss, like a normal well, is a way of tapping in to that natural resource.
Oh wow, thanks for linking that "The Void" doc, as a result of it I've realised something very interesting regarding the Kingsoul and the Void Heart that I think everyone has missed thus far. A common point of confusion when it comes to the Hollow Knight lore is "What is the Kingsoul? Why does it come in two parts? Why does it become the Void Heart?". A common answer is something along the lines of "It's literally the King's soul turned into a charm (possibly as a result of his death, since charms are noted to be created this way), which was split for the White Lady to give to a worthy vessel and be completed upon finding the King (since the white lady cannot be found without shade cloak due to the Pale King creating a shadow barrier) and it gets turned into the Void Heart because it is altered by the void within The Knight upon its realisation of its true self. This, however, brings up several questions: "If it's the King's Soul, why does it mention in the description that it is "symbolising a union between higher beings" (IE the Pale King and the White Lady)? Why does the White Lady imply that the Void Heart was always inside the Kingsoul ("The Kingsoul... What is at the heart of it I wonder?") when by all logic neither the King nor Queen should have a trace of void within them?" This, individual who actually bothered to read this overly long comment which I really should have just made into a reply video, I shall now reveal to you! To put it simply, it is no coincidence that the Kingsoul/Voidheart symbolises the vessels perfectly - "Soul of Wyrm, soul of Root, heart of Void" - The soul of the Pale King and the soul of the White Lady form the two halves of the vessel's shell, and the void based shade makes up the heart of the vessel. Similarly the two white halves of the Kingsoul encase the black Void Heart. When urging The Knight to discover what lies at the heart of the Kingsoul, the White Lady says the following: "If its curiosity wills it, it should seek out that place. That place where it was born, where it died, where it began..." The vessels are created by taking the eggs of the White Lady and Pale King and subjecting them to the Void of the Abyss. As implied here, the Void kills the original inhabitant of the egg and takes its place within the now empty shell, creating a new 'life' in the form of the vessel. The Kingsoul is actually the charm created from the death of the King and Queen's thousands of children within the void and represents the vessels themselves; this explains why the Void Heart is within the Kingsoul, what the "symbolising a union between higher beings" means (as what is more symbolic of a union of beings than the creation of a child?), why the Kingsoul requires notches to equip but the Void Heart is a part of its bearer and cannot be unequipped (the Kingsoul is symbolic of the child that died and is separate from the vessel, whereas the Void Heart is symbolic of the created vessel). The charm generates soul because as children of the Pale King, the original inhabitants of the eggs would surely by fonts of soul power. The White Lady and Pale King each took half of the charm, "our once-fractured soul, now complete" partly as a reminder of their shame "There is some shame I feel from my own part in the deed" for committing the atrocity they did (which explains the enigmatic "No cost too great" you get from dream nailing the Pale King as he clutches his half of the Kingsoul - it was a reasonable assumption to say he was talking about the death of his sacrificed children before and the fact that he was thinking this whilst holding the Kingsoul just reinforces the theory that the Kingsoul is representative of this) and partly as a boon for any new vessel that would seek to fulfill its duty. If you made it here, thanks for reading and I hope you like my theory.

@@android19willpwn Exactly. It is not an "Imprint of the Abyss" that is being given form, it is the "Abyss" that is given form. There's no such thing as an "Imprint of the Abyss".
Ok consider this: maybe the pale king was highly influenced by the design of the ancient kingdom and built stuff in a similar style. Maybe he designed the black egg, shade gates, and maybe even his crown after the ancient civilization, similar to how modern architecture is styled after ancient Greek buildings

I think it would be fun to have a DLC of silksong which would allow you to get to the void kingdom, something like the white palace. Like it would be cool to actually get to see how the ancient civilization looked like in its complete glory
a dlc where you explore deeper into the abyss by traveling back in time by hitting corpses with the dream nail (then hitting corpses in dreams to go deeper) would be sick. imagine going deeper and deeper and more and more to the right before you end up in the distant kingdoms edge with one of the beasts (the one that you get quick slash at) standing there.
To me the "imprint of Abyss given form" looks like the general shape of a vessel/shade's head - a wider central part topped by two horns with spikes. This seems to be somewhat of a natural form of the void whenever it is given a form - as we see this shape in the void tendrils themselves, the shades, and the shade lord (having four arms also seems to be closer to the void's natural form).
As best as I can tell the shade lord is the perfect form of what the void should look like as a being on its own, because it combines the appearance of all other instances of void where it wasn't influenced by something else. These features are: -Tendrils that can do some damage. -Multiple eyes. -Lots of spikey bits. The one thing I am uncertain about is the nature of four arms. The Shade Lord has them and so do the kingsmoulds and the Collector (which I'm fairly certain is a defective kingsmould) But the nature of four arms in the latter two is doubtful because the mould that PK seems to have used to make the former and possibly latter has four arms. This suggests that it was either a style choice, or possibly he knew the affinity for four arms the void had and thought it would be useful. Also, one example of void in close to a natural form you didn't mention: Sharp Shadow sprite.
goddammit i've been binging mossbag videos and hollow knight videos in general and the more lore i leanr the more it makes me want to live in the world of hollow knight like i know it's all dark and desolate and stuff, but, magic!
What I find odd, is that Arcane Eggs sport the Seal Of Hallownest. This makes me confused, unless that symbol holds a bigger meaning from before the Pale King and he just snatched it.
The statues in the "abyss shriek room" could also be the imprint of the lingering will of the failed vessels. They failed, so they probably had a voice to cry suffering, and they want to be heard again. If so, Abyss shriek would be a new spell, that the Snail shaman doesn't recognise. I think it makes more sense than a void shaman that's never been to the abyss.
18:10 This totem is missing the unique flooring however, it also doesn't have those winding pillars. I think maybe the workers building The Royal Waterways found it and decided "We don't get paid enough for this" so they built around it.
That is interesting. I'm playing through again so I'll keep an eye out for that dialogue. But when this battle was mentioned, did Dung Defender mention how long ago it was? It's plausible that this "Black Wyrm" could have died, and much like the Pale King's Wyrm form, became something else....a liquid substance. But that would mean this "Battle of Blackwyrm" happened long before Hallownest existed because we know of the ancient civilization that seemingly worshiped the Void.
I think maybe the black wyrm turned into the fool lord or however it was called, and the carcass could have been used as the colesseum proper or maybe they even have a relationship with the snail chamans
The Battle of the Black Wyrm, from Dung Defender/White Defender section Well, void is black, and if the temple was made out of a carapace, it may be of a wyrm
According to mushroom dude, wyrms tend to start kingdoms. Maybe the void kingdom was started by an ancient black wyrm doing something similar to what the Pale King later did? The void could have originated from his power being released from his body after death, similar to how the Pale King's new form allowed him to grant sentience to bugs. If that is the case, the Battle of the Black Wyrm might have been against that previous wyrm's followers, rather than the wyrm itself. Maybe the Pale King was stamping out the last remnants of the ancient kingdom.
I always interpreted the "Void Given Focus" line from the Shade Lord statue to mean that void inherently has some kind of mind and power, it's just too erratic and chaotic to actually do anything with that power. Up until the Godhome pits the Knight against the Absolute Radiance and when the Knight summons the void to finish it off, the void becomes unified enough to actually do things
I know it was a joke, but Void Plasma does most likely exist. Shade Soul, Descending Dark, and Abyss Shriek all involve massive blasts of an energy form of Void, and the captured Shaman in the Sanctum seemed to be using it as a power source. Perhaps Void Plasma was used in Spells?
I hope the Ben Shapiro flash was a reference to his recent failure to answer some questions without going into whataboutism and quitting the interview on the BBC, because if yes, that is comedy gold right there.

I think its a good idea to put the general lore video you put in the disclaimer in the description, it will make it easier to reach the video on mobile and such Great video BTW!
I think the Void Fountain bug isn't just dreaming about what void is, but is assessing the Knight. I think it recognizes the Void inside of the Knight, and the power it has as the progeny of a Wyrm. And the "Without unity" line refers to the lack of the Void Heart, which "Unifies the void under the bearer's will."
This game is just to massive. I keep giving in to looking up videos like this in to the game (Note that I have only got as far as defeating the mantis lords). But even when I look up these spoiler videos, I am still totally lost. There is just so much I've yet to even find, even more then what ever I end up learning from these videos. This-game-is-huge. ...Maybe the Void Kingdom’s previous inhabitants are the Void Tendrils? Maybe they, like, flung themselves/sacrificed lives to the Void in order to give it Will and make it workable? That would certainly explain the connection to Soul... Maybe the “our voices will cry out again” even suggests they Fed Themselves to the Void near the fall of their civilization, in an attempt to outlive that fall, and that part of the reason the Void isn’t United is that it’s got so many Wills currently sunk in it?
I think you looked too far into the Rocks. Remember that Elderbug isn't exactly the most knowledgeable on higher being politics, so him talking about rocks with wills might just be a metaphor for the way that the area looks. Good video nonetheless, liking the style. Silksong lore video when?
Maybe the ancient structures were carved out by void, rather than the rock being void? Void is a liquid, so if it eroded rock like water, the resulting structures would have the fashion of natural rock formations, while also explaining their unique look.
I haven't done/seen anything Hollow Knight in 3 months, hearing the background music (and mossbag's sexy voice) makes me so happy! LY moss, you're awesome!
This is super late you'll probably never see this, BUT The void actually expands deeper than what we find, considering the floor is made of corpses and the birthplace, however we actually don't know how far down it expands. So, the lifeblood core, right? It has a little platform right next to it. However, the lighthouse and abyss shriek rooms also technically have platforms, it's just that the bodys reach up to them, merging with the floor. So my question is, how many more areas like the lifeblood core have been completely buried by the Pale King?
11:31 I know this may be a bit much but I think that the Void didn’t want to kill or harm her because of the relationship so many of the vessels had with her and since they are now apart of the void So I believe that she survived because some of the vessels (The Hollow Knight, and the character you play as) imprinted on the void maybe some kind of compassion? I don’t know but that may be the reason that she is almost never harmed in these endings and is left alone That would honestly be so sweet and maybe will lead to the void becoming an ally?
Pretty sure hornet kill all previous vessels before the knight. The one at greenpath is just one of many. Idk how her casual killing spree should be reward as compassion/non existing relationship with the knight/other vessels. She just acknowledge her relations with the knight n hk, never have any bonding/positive loving relationship with any of them. Plus she just use or encourage the knight as tool (ironic like pk n white lady) to fight the radiance by eliminating all vessels come before the knight. Hmm feel shady n kinda morally dubious. So dont understand how certain parts of fandom twist this interaction into fanon so passionately
my thought is that if everything made of void was absorbed into the void, because she wasn't made of void she wasn't consumed by it/she had the will to not become one with it
I feel like mossbag deserves a commission or tribute from TC! He literally enriched my experience with Hollow Knight and solidified it as my all-time favourite Metroidvania through his exposition - even if it's only hypothetical. I think at the very least TC should put a very special thanks to mossbag in the Silksong credits. Maybe even a plushie.
What's scariest about the void is its silent presence... They're the shadows, the nothingness, a being in slumber, connected to the billions of tormented souls of the sacrificed children of two gods... When it awakens in its final form is destroys everything in its path and annilates the only other god who still stands before it... It is silence and it will silence you too...
Mossbag - lore given focus. Throughout this kingdom's history, many philosophers spent their time debating over the nature of the void. Many of them thought staring into the abyss would provide the answers they sought. Inevitably, all they saw was an abyss staring back. -Relic Seeker Lemm

When urging The Knight to discover what lies at the heart of the Kingsoul, the White Lady says the following:
"If its curiosity wills it, it should seek out that place. That place where it was born, where it died, where it began..."
The vessels are created by taking the eggs of the White Lady and Pale King and subjecting them to the Void of the Abyss.

8:42 did you take into consideration that these void tentacles ARE what the knight LETS out when using thorns of agony
These features are:
-Tendrils that can do some damage.
'imprint of Abyss given form' do you mean Cockroaches? That's what I call them.
goddammit i've been binging mossbag videos and hollow knight videos in general and the more lore i leanr the more it makes me want to live in the world of hollow knight like i know it's all dark and desolate and stuff, but, magic!

Team Cherry: You'll be dead before you even reach us
What I find odd, is that Arcane Eggs sport the Seal Of Hallownest.
9:47 You are a genius, please keep making content. I’m not tired of rewatching your videos, but seeing you post makes me so happy.
“There better be an explanation for this Team Cherry. I know where you live” followed by circling Australia on the map had me laughing out loud.

All piles of corpses exist for a reason.

There is a reference to a "battle of the blackwyrm" in game.
Black wyrm

@@simonstewart2514 the dung defender mentions it at some point
That is interesting. I'm playing through again so I'll keep an eye out for that dialogue.
But when this battle was mentioned, did Dung Defender mention how long ago it was? It's plausible that this "Black Wyrm" could have died, and much like the Pale King's Wyrm form, became something else....a liquid substance. But that would mean this "Battle of Blackwyrm" happened long before Hallownest existed because we know of the ancient civilization that seemingly worshiped the Void.
@@pyxl666 Its in the hunter journal entry for white defender i think. And it says. that the great knights were involved
I think maybe the black wyrm turned into the fool lord or however it was called, and the carcass could have been used as the colesseum proper or maybe they even have a relationship with the snail chamans

The void definitely has a voice of its own since it speaks. You can see this from the lore tablets and the voice inside the thrown room.
The Battle of the Black Wyrm, from Dung Defender/White Defender section
Well, void is black, and if the temple was made out of a carapace, it may be of a wyrm
mh... sounds possable good thinking o7
@@ManoredRed i think the wyrm could have created the void, but not that his death created void

Circles entirety of Oceania.
I have drawn a conclusion.
Rick Scott is Void.
I hope the Ben Shapiro flash was a reference to his recent failure to answer some questions without going into whataboutism and quitting the interview on the BBC, because if yes, that is comedy gold right there.
This is such nice content dude, i really appreciate the work and effort!
I really love your intros and outros btw. In the intro I always try to guess what will come up and the outro is always unexpected. You have your very own style and somehow it fits the game very well.
This game is just to massive.

...Maybe the Void Kingdom’s previous inhabitants are the Void Tendrils? Maybe they, like, flung themselves/sacrificed lives to the Void in order to give it Will and make it workable? That would certainly explain the connection to Soul... Maybe the “our voices will cry out again” even suggests they Fed Themselves to the Void near the fall of their civilization, in an attempt to outlive that fall, and that part of the reason the Void isn’t United is that it’s got so many Wills currently sunk in it?
"Our voices will cry out again" seems like the Vessels' voices.
I think you looked too far into the Rocks. Remember that Elderbug isn't exactly the most knowledgeable on higher being politics, so him talking about rocks with wills might just be a metaphor for the way that the area looks.
Good video nonetheless, liking the style. Silksong lore video when?
Yeah I think he meant that the ancient bugs were so advanced that they could make roads and buildings out of stone as if it had a will
Maybe the ancient structures were carved out by void, rather than the rock being void? Void is a liquid, so if it eroded rock like water, the resulting structures would have the fashion of natural rock formations, while also explaining their unique look.
Mossbag is the best youtuber and rewatching his stuff reaffirms this stance

Is RICK SCOTT VOID???!!??!!! Find out next mossbag episode!
This is super late you'll probably never see this, BUT
The void actually expands deeper than what we find, considering the floor is made of corpses and the birthplace, however we actually don't know how far down it expands.
11:31
I know this may be a bit much but I think that the Void didn’t want to kill or harm her because of the relationship so many of the vessels had with her and since they are now apart of the void
So I believe that she survived because some of the vessels (The Hollow Knight, and the character you play as) imprinted on the void maybe some kind of compassion?
I don’t know but that may be the reason that she is almost never harmed in these endings and is left alone
That would honestly be so sweet and maybe will lead to the void becoming an ally?
Pretty sure hornet kill all previous vessels before the knight. The one at greenpath is just one of many. Idk how her casual killing spree should be reward as compassion/non existing relationship with the knight/other vessels. She just acknowledge her relations with the knight n hk, never have any bonding/positive loving relationship with any of them. Plus she just use or encourage the knight as tool (ironic like pk n white lady) to fight the radiance by eliminating all vessels come before the knight. Hmm feel shady n kinda morally dubious. So dont understand how certain parts of fandom twist this interaction into fanon so passionately
my thought is that if everything made of void was absorbed into the void, because she wasn't made of void she wasn't consumed by it/she had the will to not become one with it
Snail Shamans aren't actually bound to a spot, they're just so slow that they're stuck there for a long time

Void has a voice though. Both the Collector and the Shade Lord have voices, and the Shade can make sounds.
Mossbag - lore given focus. Throughout this kingdom's history, many philosophers spent their time debating over the nature of the void. Many of them thought staring into the abyss would provide the answers they sought. Inevitably, all they saw was an abyss staring back. -Relic Seeker Lemm
