  • The final ride was lower level as the weather forecast was uncertain for the afternoon. Using a couple of lifts to enable the distance and ascent of the tour. Taking the Mont Seuc gondola up from Ortisei to Alp di Siusi, the initial section is tarmac across the alp to Compatsch then down the main to the town of Siusi. A pleasant cycle track runs from here towards the picturesque town of Fie but diverting across country past a swimming lake to the hamlet of Ums.
The tour runs through the forest below Tschafon - Monte Cavone, but riding stopped as the route was blocked for works. Having found a way around the blocked section, the climb up through the forest wasn’t difficult but there was a significant gain in elevation. The trail then meandered through pastures, minor roads and sparse forest returning to Ums. Next was Fie where I intended to stop for a lunch break. After a quick look at Fie and one of the large churches I noticed that the sky was becoming darker to the south west, with the promise of rain, so I decided to hasten towards the gondola in Siusi.
So it was lunch in the gondola, which is a fairly long ride back up to Compatsch on Alp di Siusi. The final section is down a steep minor road in a valley past Bula Pufels. This road is not open to vehicles except for farm traffic and local access but there was a large landslide which had blocked the road completely to all vehicular traffic. A good ride, not as grand as the first two but still with plenty of interest and enjoyable riding.
