A ride around Thirlmere with a mixture of tarmac, tracks, bridleways and with great scenery. Grabbing a weather window and exploring new areas. Nothing especially difficult but some really enjoyable sections of off-road. Gravel bike standard but ridden on EMTB.

This was an ambitious route over Passo Gardena from one valley to another. A great mixture of singletrack, trails and using the gondolas and chairlifts that run in the summer. Why do people ride around puddles? Just widens the degradation. Unweight your front wheel and crack on, or do they just not like wet bikes???
It is a hard climb I did it on a 1994 canondale withch was pretty cutting edge in----you guessed it 1994😅 wouldn't fancy doing it now at 90kg 😅.

Those foils are very expensive I gather , I used to have an airchair with a foil on , great fun and a sort of predecessor to the things that are here now apart from the airchaor needed a tow, some of the foils now use a wing while the early ones used a kitesurfing kite, they look great fun. The water looks so clean there too
If you want epic do it on an analogue MTB. Easy with a motor!

“Easy” is relative. E bikes are an incredible way for more people to explore the outdoors and visit places they might not be able to otherwise. Surly “Analogue” elitists should be shouting their praise as it gets more people in to MTB.

How can you possibly enjoy cycling over those rocks!??
A lot of mountain bikers love that kind of thing. I hate rock gardens with a passion but it's hard to get away from them if you are riding in the UK. Almost every route includes at least one really rough rock section.

Another thing: it's really good for your brain; you have to focus 100% and your reactions are improved
Great ride with good company. superb to see myself dying on most of the ride as iI normally only see my version of my rides. There were some very testing climbs and descents on this ride and the awful drizzle and headwind made it extra hard work on the section to Mosedale bothy
Yes a tough ride but good company and always something to learn for the next ride

And the main thing at the moment no huge algal blooms. The speed limit on the lake now is 10 knots which is just over 11mph, initially when they brought in the speed limit it was 10 mph but some legal type caused a bit of a stink as it was maritime and said it should be in knots not mph and it became 10 knots the extra mph being useless in the grand scheme of power boating, looks like you enjoyed one of the nicer days we've had ;-)

Is that the older 520, or one of the post-2020 versions? I've got an older 510 and the thing feels a little unstable in rough water compared to something like a V8 (I've only been in surfskiis since February). Some one is selling a used second generation 520 a few hours from me, but I'm interested in getting opinions on their stability before I commit to spending 10 or 12 hours on the road to get it.
@@ExceptionallyCleverUsername I think it was one of the newer styles but can't be sure. Probably post 2020. You have to try it yourself as everyone's idea of stability is different.

Another nice ride , A few years ago close by where you fell but up on the sort of main route before you dropped down to the stream ride section there used to be some horrendously deep puddles pools where the 4 x 4 's have destroyed the double track, A friend of mine nearly vanished in one of those deep sections on a Yamaha 250 he sort of jumped in and stopped dead
Great set of videos, thanks for posting. I had a couple of days in Ortisei (road biking) a few years ago and vowed to go back to see more of the Dolomites. I'm debating whether to take my mtb, or take my road bike and add in a couple of days hiking to get to the some less accessible spots. What dates were you there? Seemed not too busy.
@@benben-my1rk Biking on and off road very popular there with many rental shops. Filmed in mid June. Worth looking at all the local cycling events. They close the roads for some. Many roadies like to climb the mountain passes but they are busy with all forms of traffic

Jules did you do this on 17.07.24? I did this on that day, i came straight back down, the gnarly bits to jenkins hill were unrideable for me
@@tonysmyth1767 No on Monday 15th. Are you referring to the steepest section not far from the start which I've coloured black on my track at the end of the video? That was the hardest on the climb. Lonscale was hairy on the return leg although the experienced riders fly through it
@@juleskayak yep thats the bit, i walked it down bits of that as well, as i had a minor tumble off
What size battery are you on ?
@@craigsimpson3347 625. But didn't need a lot of juice on this ride; used 60%. The description describes the amount of climbing, about 870m altogether including Latrigg

@@ktm660smc6 No false steps! Behind the waterfall I was holding onto the via ferrata cable. The route carries on; if you look carefully you can see iron rungs after the end of the cable.

Which is when on your own don't take chances! , I've walked helvelyn and going to ride it next week, after loads of research and watching vids I'll be going via great dodd and probably back down keppel cove thanks to your vid of the ascent. @@ktm660smc6 many wonderful mountain huts, it's just that riding alone with a long way to go I hardly stop, resting in the lifts and carry plenty of drink & cereal bars
The beach where they stopped for coffee is called Alaties and is an absolutely wonderful beach with a fantastic restaurant just above it. Fiskardo is my favourite place in the world and even though my family don’t realise it, I’m thinking of retiring there. Happy times and happy paddling with Yvonne and Pavlos @ SeaKayaking Kefalonia 😊

Just have to judge their mood, see if there's calves or a bull, none in this case

If you look up the old MBR Classic, back in the days of analogue, it rides in the reverse of this and is a much better ride.. I diod it a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.

That was a micro hill. The Richmond hill was a proper hill but I only showed the descent
