I got this instead of an Apple Studio display. I'm very picky about monitors and rejected a lot of options before settling on this one. Expensive but for me it's worth it.

I've just ordered one having tried a Studio Display for a while. There's loads to like about the Studio Display, but they really get pricey when you need 2 or even 3 of them, not to mention the amount of space they take up, especially as the VESA mount ones are so rare. The webcam was disappointing, but on the flip side, the speakers were very good and they "just work" with Mac. No issues waking from sleep or with scaled resolutions which are problems I've had with non-Apple displays in the past.
LG monitors are always good and I love the ultra wide form factor. The fact its 5K should mean text is "retina-like" and the subtle curve is important too. With multiple monitors I often end up adjusting them to have a not-very-smooth curve which doesn't look great and often encroaches on desk space.
I'd love to see Apple's take on an ultra wide monitor although I can only imagine how much they'd charge for it!

I have one of the older LG Ultrawides and I love it. For someone who relies on the Max’s magnifier having the extra space is a must. I’m definitely going to look into this one. Now the only thing I need to figure out is what to do with my old monitor.

I’ve found ultrawide’s to increase work flow and efficiency by my unscientific estimate of at least 70% compared to a standard 24’’ or 30’’. I use a Samsung 50’’ curved ultra wide with my Mac Mini and you seriously get a ton more done in a shorter time frame.

I've been using the Dell U4021QW for nearly one year, and I love it!
Just surprised that the dell variant did not catch so much attention as the LG since it launched.
I still prefer the Dell cause I have two LG 4K monitors, and their back-facing io panel kept conflicting with my monitor arm.

I got the LG 47” because of the last @DailyTekk review and it has been a life changer. So much screen real estate. I have a regular office job, so the ability to have emails, Word docs, Excel spreadsheets, and multiple browser pages open at once. The downside to that monitor is that the height of the screen could be bigger (lots of scrolling in documents). Also sometimes I have to lean (slightly) to see what’s at the ends of the monitor. Probably wouldn’t need to do that with this one.
I’m not sure there’s enough with this one to make me dump the 47” and get this one (especially at $2k). But if you are even remotely considering a widescreen because you don’t have one I would HIGHLY recommend it.
Thanks to Chris for another great review that focused on the most important factors.

After 3 years of using an ultrawide I move back to the 16:9 format. Don't get me wrong I love the screen real estate of the UW but since last year I began to have trouble focusing and get distracted very easily when too much stuff is shown right in my face. With a smaller display system at least now I can focus better.

    Serious question here.
Does this monitor have that matte Anti-glare 3M finish? Because I bought one ultra-wide LG monitor and the anti-glare film was so evident that it seemed as if someone has already nicked picked on the corner and it was almost peeling off!
I obviously returned the monitor (a $1200 monitor). And I’ve been searching for a big productivity monitor for a while now. But to me it seems that LG has done that with every high end monitor. Which, it wouldn’t be a problem if the fit and finish was better quality.

Hi, m looking into an Ultrawide for my home office use and am in tech sales. I was wondering if when using a slide deck and presenting, can I have the deck on one side of the screen and my notes on the other side of the screen so they are not visible to the audience? Could I have the PP deck on my laptop using that camera and the notes on the main screen, or, PP/notes on split screen and use the laptop camera? Also, I like to have multiple windows visible at the same time...SalesForce, Excel, email, browser, ticket system, etc. My ideal setup would allow me to have 6-8 windows on the computer screen and one on my laptop. When considering the above types of applications what do you feel is the maximum number of windows you could comfortably have open on this monitor at the same time and the viewing size remains useful? FYI...best video I've seen so far!

  • @techinrl9869

If I were to get another ultrawide monitor, it’d probably be the Samsung 49” Neo G9, a quantum dot mini-LED monitor with 2048 dimming zones. Yes, it’s a gaming monitor, but you can use gaming monitors for anything and it gets up to 240Hz refresh with DisplayPort with DSC (only 120Hz for Macs). At the moment, it costs the same as this LG. I have the older non mini-LED G9 and it was rocky to start with, but it’s turned into a pretty cool monitor. It’s not worth spending that kind of money to upgrade a monitor that already works, but if I didn’t have it, the Neo G9 would be something I’d get. One thing I noticed right away on this LG is the grayish blacks. IPS is nice, but mini-LED is a lot better. The only thing that would make people really hesitate on a Neo G9 is its really big 1000R curvature. It is really curved.

When you are messing with the display scaling like that on MacOS (using unconventional scaling w/third party app), my understanding is that it could affect performance of your machine (that is what I've read). I wonder how much of a problem that would be using a low-power Mac (i.e. M1 Mac Mini) with this monitor.

I have a Dell 34" WQHD Ultrawide that I use with my M1 MacBook Air. Here are my thoughts: 1) Ultrawides are the best workaround for the one external monitor limitation on M1/M2 Airs - You will quickly forget that the limitation exists. 2) WQHD is a value option over 5K2K. Save yourself a lot of money but make sure to use USB-C instead of HDMI. Trust me on this one if you want your monitor to look better than FHD. 3) Magnet's shortcut commands are awesome for controlling all that space. Commit a few to memory and you will be wondering why you didn't get an ultrawide sooner.

That’s the killer for me with these screens. Anything large like this, even with a 5K resolution leaves me nervous as to which scaled display modes will work reliably with macOS. Even knowing the ppi for these, it’s still a gamble if you want a “retina-like” experience at all supported resolutions. I’ve not had much joy with third party apps in this regard either.
The Apple Studio displays are expensive, but are incredibly bright; work reliably at all scaled resolutions and also wake from sleep every time which is not something I can say for LG. I wish Apple would produce their ASD in a wider range of sizes.

With 150% scaling, is the LG 40WP95C wide enough to run 3 windows comfortably side by side?

Maybe, it depends, for me it’s no. That’s something like three windows on 34”, that doesn’t work for me. But on 125% scaling it’s 👌👌

Any reason to choose this over the LG 49WL95C ultrawide?

    • @dubbs1923
      @dubbs1923 ปีที่แล้ว

He briefly touched on it. Crisper image quality in text, more vertical screen that fits more space (less scrolling down) and Thunderbolt 4 - good for reading docs and things like excel. I got a great deal on a lightly used LG 49WL95C and it's BIG. However, I can easily spit the screen in 3 same size and don't feel like it crunches the (databases, excel docs). I couldn't justify the expensive price tag on the 40 so I'm happy with my new monitor. I do wish there was a store that I could compare both monitors though. Maybe there is something else that I'm missing but felt like I couldn't pass on the deal I found.

It gives you USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, but no HDMI 2.1 ports, only 2.0? That's unfortunate. And it's only 60hz. I might just go with the Mac studio Display then. I dont think I need a 40 inch monitor for right now anyway. I'm cool with the Mac studio Display size for the time being.
