    I have (and prefer) the 34 inch version of this (that one is not curved), because of the slightest higher PPI (same resolution, less inches).
    But also for work (development) after also getting the 32 inch Benq, I've found that it's much better to have a bit more space vertically to see more lines of code, than having an ultrawide. I don't use the 34 LG ultra-wide anymore, I'll probably sell it...
    I really wish there was a monitor that is: 34", over 200 PPI, Thunderbolt 4 with at least 96 Watts power delivery... and have an attractive design. But, unfortunately, with all the technology nowadays, there still is no such thing. Oh, and that doesn't have an insane price of the Apple Pro Display XDR of $5k (without the stand), and it's not even 34" at that price, it's 32"

      I’m a dev too and I use the 49” Samsung ultrawide. The pixel density is jarring going from my MacBook to it though. It’s 5120x1440 which is definitely better than 1080 vertical pixels but 2160 should be the minimum vertical resolution if you’re coding. Text is just much better

      I have bought the 49 inch Samsung Ultrawide display as well today and I was so disappointed by the quality of it, I can count the pixels almost and the fonts and texts are just not how they supposed to be, a little bit blurry and not sharp at all. I have decided to return it and try the LG display instead..

    To me I do care the the 5K sharpness of my 27" LG Ultra HD 5K Ultra Slim USB-C Monitor Widescreen LED IPS LCD w/ Webcam - Black - 27MD5KA-B that I purchased back in March when Apple at first did not have the "Pick up, in store" option for the Apple Studio Monitor at first (they do now). Have it on a black VESA arm desk mount that I use to place the monitor at arms length.
    For me moving from my previous 2014 5-K 27-inch iMac to the 27" LG Ultra HD 5K Ultra Slim was a no brainer. The size at arms length , and height on the VESA arm is at the Goldilocks, just right size me.

    great review! but a couple of things (knowing i have the studio display and the 34 variant of your monitor side by side):
    -when both lit near each other although the LG is great on its own it kinda looks terrible in comparison to the SD.
    -usb on the side isnt great, yes it is easier to reach, but for aesthetics it doesnt work as well as hiding everything in the back and mounting brackets.
    -the brightness has never been great, but when comparing each other it feels so cheap and dark :(
    on the plus side: 2 TB ports is a great addition (vs 1 on the 34) to switch between 2 pcs, and the 40 inch is just great to space out all your displayed content

    • @AppleInsider
      @AppleInsider  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Jerome!
      I agree that it is vastly different next to the Studio Display but I mean, 245 PPI to 140? Big difference. Colors aren't as vibrant either but just a bit dimmer. Im ok with these differences.
      For the USB ports, I really do like them. I use them for flash drives temporarily plugged in versus leaving dangling cables. But I hate trying to reach behind a monitor and find ports to connect to -- especially for temporary purposes.
      I believe the reason the Studio Display doesn't have a second TB port is the limits of TB. With the 5K panel and USB ports, it consumes so much data that it wouldn't be able to adequately support a second 5K Studio Display so Apple must have opted to omit it instead. But I totally agree, it would be nice to have.

      I used a studio display for a few weeks at work and then went back to Dell’s 4K 27” panel after the SD got given to a designer (I’m a dev). While the SD was nice, I didn’t miss it when it left me. Maybe I’m the wrong market, but I didn’t care much for it.
      What I was impressed with was the anti glare coating it had. There’s massive window behind me and it literally removed all glare whatsoever. The Dell is almost unusable at particular times of the day.

    It would be great if they could release a 2160p curved screen monitor close to 1000r with a 144hz refresh rate, 32in - 49in would be perfect. Samsung G series is close, but it's missing the 2160p

    • @kuanjuliu
      @kuanjuliu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Samsung Odyssey Ark was *so* close in this regard, but it died on my desk due to text clarity and just outright weird color contrast issues. Otherwise, it would’ve been perfect for me!
      Perhaps someday LG can make an IPS version of the Ark.

    I am holding out to replace my 32" LG - this has been my display for the past three years and it is still nice, though there is some bleed in the bottom, but that is to be expected for a monitor running 12 to 14 hours a day. I am trying to score that perfect display that has mini-led and refresh rates of 120hz and up. I had hoped for Amazon Prime Day deals, but alas... There is the M32U and BenQ Mobiuz that I like but they are out of my price range currently - remember I am in Canada, where the dollar is worth nothing and the prices are highly inflated.

    • @gabrielangel09
      @gabrielangel09 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Andrew Hamilton I am talking about the text itself. MacOs has an option to scale the text only, you have 5 different choices. So you don't need to downgrade the resolution to have a larger text. Do you see what I mean?

    • @MattLaVoie1
      @MattLaVoie1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gabrielangel09 The "Larger text - More space" settings only shows on monitors that have a "retina" DPI >220. Although this monitor has a very high resolution, it is very large so its DPI is too low for MacOS to display this menu. The best solution is to get the app BetterDummy. It gives you access to these settings. Some reddit users who have this monitor said that they used it to scale the UI to a resolution of 3840x1620. This is the same thing the missing menu does. I found a thread with 2 different people with this setup who said that setting was perfect for them both and they highly recommended this monitor.

    I have purchased 3 monitors from LG with the most recent being a Gsync 34" widescreen. Every single one had a problem after a few months with vertical thin lines in the middle of the screen. The first two were sent to LG for repair and they were returned a few weeks later, having been fixed, only to develop the problem after a few months again.
    LG customer service in the US has proven to be one of the worst with a serious lack of support for it's customer base and I have stopped buying their monitors. I also check other brands to see if they are using a LG panel to ensure that I don't get the same issues.

    Would be the perfect monitor, but LG have not thought about placement of a usb port to plugin web-cam sitting on top in the centre, the mic sitting in front of the monitor or off to one side or the laptop on a vertical stand off to the side. The usb port placement means there are a string of wires on the back and given my back to back workstation are really unsightly. Would be great for the designers to think of the little things for this price. Also no alternative base as the curved base cuts into valuable desk space. there should be an option for a hole/desk-clamp and for power cord to run inside the vertical stand.
