@@dumdum3162 W is conventionally used to describe a fourth dimension (T is also used, although T is usually used for time, but it can also be used to just describe any fourth dimension, but when there are four spatial dimension usually W is used)
Really satisfying gameplay, driven by a unique mechanic. This was a lot of fun to play. One recommendation id make is that the switching used three keys, one for each dimension. That way the player can "learn" that left is fast guy, down is skull and right is brain. Takes away the extra mental load of "which dimension will pressing left give me?"
this is a great idea and a very fun looking game. but i wanted to actually thank you for your succinct but very informative description of tile maps/tile sets. ive tried to watch video or two about how they work and when they should be used, but i found them to be a little too cluttered to feel like they were ever worth using. but you saying "you can even include whole scenes" suddenly make it click for me, so thank you very much
I really like the system behind the keys. A lot of devs would make a key ammount var for how many keys you have and then have to put the door to be locked if you have under a certain # of keys but your solution is way more efficient
A cool touch could be having different pathways that are only accessible on a per-dimension basis. So like, there's a random floating item or inaccessible room, but if you switch dimensions, suddenly ut's accessible. Then you just switch back to the previous dimension once you're there.
You could create a "PlayerMovementResource" instead of the dictionary, that stores all you'll need in a "class savable" file that you edit from the Godot's inspector
It would be really nice if the player is standing in the title screen and when you change the deminsion he falls through the block he is standing on and instead of the start screen there are now in a dimension to see the settings.
ohh this reminds me of a really old indie game called Eversion, with a similar dimension concept (iirc the prompt was an hp lovecraft quote about hearing otherworldly music), but with an at-will shift rather than static shift spots. i really like the idea of the semi permeable blocks, too. i think the sprites giving an easy, distinct, and instant indicator of dimension is great too, and i think could work for a story really well
@@the_real_spamtonGspamton I’ve only used Godot, and that’s what I’d recommend. It seems to be one of the easier ones to learn. Unity would also be good since it’s by far the most popular and it’ll be easiest to find tutorials

Maybe it would be good to give a little logic to how the dimensions work. What's the point of having all that paraphernalia if I can't even know what the point of changing dimensions is. It's like "hey, this block is transferable on the second dimension and you had no way of knowing it. And if you don't like it, then screw you."
I’m really sorry! I couldn’t think of a better word instead of “dimension” and I wasn’t trying to be misleading. I changed the title, hopefully calling them “alternate dimensions” is more accurate. Thanks for the feedback
Would be funny if you could switch from 2d dimension to 3d dimension or even THE 4th DIMENSIO,jk that is a pretty hard goal because I’m pretty sure Godot cannot do 3d and don’t even talk about 4d
