So glad you "get" these ADV bikes now - it's their all-purpose nature that makes them so appealing to me for sure - loved the Tiger 850 Sport, I suspect I recently had this very bike in my garage, hugely under rated in my opinion. Loved the video! All the best - Andy.

I own a 900GT. Having grown up during the golden age of motorcycling in the 60s and 70s, I agree on the styling. Still, I love dirt bike ergonomics on a big street bike, and I love this Tiger! You Brits can’t be beat for sports cars, bikes, and double guns.

    • @MrDarcy-OlMan
      @MrDarcy-OlMan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Great! There are many styling aspects of the bike that are very nice indeed, but the general ‘adventure bike’ appendages and frame could look so much better with a complete redesign

Got one and I'm completely happy. I am 166 cm, 66 kg and am not too bothered by the seat height & weight. Since Iam 71 now, I may consider a low seat option just for convenience. But other than that, I think you got everything spot on! Thanks foe this very sensibly put together vidgo.

Nice exhaust note! Holy smokes does that sound fantastic. A Ducati sound. Adventure bikes are all roads motorcycles, often loved for their Swiss Army knife abilities. It really is the ultimate super slab tourer as many roads you may come are crap. Really good looking bike and over view. Thanks.

Well done on the review! After owning several adventure bikes, I now own an 850 sport. After 10k miles, I feel you nailed everything I know about it. It's a fun bike that can do just about anything you ask of it, except the rough off road trails. Get a lighter dirt bike for that kind of work.

Comment @ 4:35 in. I had the same issue with the seat height and it not seeming seated and slipping. It's the middle bracket. There's a pocket it sits in and is a little finicky to place correctly. Great review! I'm loving my Tiger 850 here in central Texas!

@@MrDarcy-OlMan I enjoy your and this one! This comment is probably redundant now, but there are two metal rods that both need to be adjusted when you change the seat height, not just the one at the back, when rear and middle rods are located in their brackets it should be solid then, if its like the old Tiger

Great review, nice to see the Ol Man experience an adventure bike epiphany, bit worried though that he appears to have lost an inch in height, while riding a Harley he was 6'3 tall but after riding the 850 Sport he's now 6'2 , clearly needs to ride more Harley's !!!

Like yourself I have not seen the point of adventure bikes, but having a Harley that I like to preserve from the salt in the winter, and a farm I need to get round regularly I started studying their viability. One name kept coming up in reviews, the Yamaha Tenere 700.What a bike, does everything an enduro can do,but also flies down a motorwayAt a lot less money than the Triumph 850,with much better off road capability, and being by far the best looking adventure bike, was my first choice.Couldn’t be happier.

Took out the 900 recently for a test as there were no 850s on demo, same in many ways, but I found it felt a bit cheap. The rep struggled to adjust the seat height in front of me and the mirror was flapping about as it was loose on the motorway! It’s a light bike mind. Good riding position but just didn’t feel very premium compared to some Honda’s, Harleys and BMW. Great review, can’t get enough of those Welsh roads.

Yep, that’s all you need for road and a bit of light off road. Still a bit heavy compared to the KTM 690 though (weight of the extra cylinder) and you’d need to change those tyres for anything serious off-road; TET, Spanish sandy tracks or French gloopy mud! I’d be interested to see their new dual-sport when it appears, please do a vid on that, but until then I’ll stick with my CRF450L. Excellent video all in all! 👍

A friend of mine owns a H.D Fat Boy. He loves his bike, however, lately, he's been into riding country roads, camping, and that sort of things. Like you, until fairly recently I didn't get the point. Then I bought a Tiger 900 on an impulse. Now I get it. Best money I ever spent. BTW, seat heights are a little misleading and shouldn't put people off from going to a dealer and actually sitting on a bike that (on paper) may seem a little high for them. I'm 5'6" with a 30 in inseam, weigh 160 pounds and, because the seat is narrow, I can almost flatfoot the bike with the seat in the high position.

Love the Tiger always, ADVs are pretty useful handy tools to have as a go anywhere on 2 wheels solution. Personally have a Kawasaki Versys 650 for the past 5yrs and plan to keep it for a while more, you should try it. Old school tractor of an engine with only ABS available in the electronics department and a punchy torquey low end. No Traction Control, Riders Modes, etc etc to deal with, Twist & Go bike in the purest sense.

Adventure bikes are really the "Chelsea Tractors" of the bike world, they still retain a degree of off road capability for an occasional foray off tarmac but their forte is on road practicality. A combination of good luggage carrying capacity and relaxed, comfortable riding position with rider friendly power delivery. I haven't seen an adventure bike yet that I'd call a "looker" (unlike my Street Scrambler❤️) but it's obvious why they sell so well.

Its $12,000 in the US but adding the center stand, decent skip plate, crash bars, heated grips, Barkbuster handguards, and side panniers tacks on close to $2,100. Given the engine, Brembo's, and decent Anakee Adventure tires, this appears to be a great overall ADV package but $14,100 is a bit of a hurtle to jump over for a road focused ADV bike with light off road capabilities. I like the blue better than the red.

I 100% agree about what he said in terms of power. I just wish triumph wasn't so expensive, I mean I get it's more expensive in my country than it is in yours, but still. In my opinion trying if it's one of the few British vehicles that you can count on not to break down constantly, well one of the few modern ones. Range rovers on the side of the road all the time here. Jeeps too but I think that has more to do with everyone tries to go "overlanding" now, I don't understand how payloads work. Cuz these Jeeps always look smushed. But honestly back to subject that's a really great looking bike and he was 100% correct you do not need that kind of power that you see everyone riding around on. I have a friend who goes on a 700s cc out in the Rockies all the time. If it's enough for the the Rockies it's enough for everywhere. I don't even like driving through them in a car, they scare hell out of me.

A very informative review, thanks. Definitely a case of function over form in my opinion....it just doesn't stand out from the crowd. I particularly dislike the headlight(s)...it (they) just looks way too small for the bike.

Good Review. My wish list is add cruise and ditch the rain mode for offroad mode. It would be ideal. And I agree, with this price point, I'd prefer analog gauges like I have on my Triumph Sprint ST. Not a fan of their digital User Interface, its pretty rubbish. Very tempted and would upgrade my Triumph if only it had those few things or let me add them on. Cheers!

That more of a street version but with decent 80/20 tires it would work ok for gravel or fire roads. I'm curious on how it works perform on say a 500 mile trip doing 80-90 mph on American interstate highways? How comfortable would the seat be after 8-10 hours, vibrations, and mpg at those speeds. I think the tiger 1200 would be better but that's twice the price.
When the new Tiger 1200 comes out please do a review of you can get your hands on one. I'm interested in that bike being a replacement for my HD RK.

At 90mph the 1200 could well be better. For best efficiency you should only use half the engines power. At 70mph a 2litre car engine will probably use less fuel than a 1litre engine.

I agree that dials look better, but I find a digital speedo is so much better to read at a glance, I have bikes with both , on my TT1200 I occasionally have to look twice to take in what speed I’m doing, on my RRV Fireblade it’s a nightmare, the numbers on the dial are tiny and the domed lense mainly reflects my hi vis!, in fact eventually I fitted a digital mountain bike speedo under the clocks so I can now read my speed at a glance, the only problem is it stops reading at 130mph, strange that the designer of that little unit thought it would need to read that high!!

I love the look of my CB1100, with all the chrome and classic design, but it’s that versatility and lower weight you’ve highlighted that gets me thinking. I way prefer a gravel pedal cycle way above my racing road cycle, gets you to places the road cycle can’t. Like you say, if only the design of adventure bikes were more retro, nearest thing I suppose is the Moto Guzzi TT85. Your video has certainly got me thinking !!!
