Great bike this isn't it Chopsy - I'm with you, if you're in the market for a mid sized adventure bike, this is the one to have - great value, comfy, looks good, goes well....what more do you need!
Less is more! Bit of a school of thought (which I subscribe to) that bikes are getting unnecessarily complicated and expensive. Tiger 850 Sport underlines that perfectly. Well done 300+ miles with no heated grips or handguards, impressive range on that bike too! Love the variety of your vids Chopsie!
Love my Tiger 900. All I would say, is if you're planning on riding through the winter (as I do) then the heated seat, heated grips and the hand guards are an absolute godsend. The illuminated switchgear also helps during the dark mornings and the early sunset times in the winter.
I have to agree with you: It seems like a really sensible bike at a decent cost. It reminds me a bit of the Suzuki Bandit - not awfully expensive and you could have a lot of spanking fun on it. And when the miles per bladder more or less equals the miles per gallon, then you have a really good range out of it. 😎
I can highly recommend. I’ve done 5000 miles on mine from new, awesome bike. I’ve added heated grips mind you and a few extras. The additional cost of the 900 didn’t seem like value for money for me. Less is definitely more sometimes. 😁👍
Great vid Chopsy. More like £4K difference between 850 Sport and GT Pro. I went for the standard GT which sits in the middle price wise and includes cruise control, heated grips and hand guards for the extra comfort. Also ordered the heated seat which isn't an option on the Sport. Agree the 850 looks better in blue.
Fantastic, that video answered every question I had about the 850. I was browsing the Triumph website over Christmas and saw the 850 which confused me a little knowing that the 900 wasn't that long out. Great real-life action video.....many thanks John
I think having a motorcycle with less gadgets gives you more of a engaging ride especially if it's got some off road capabilities . Great video again Chops 👏 👍
Getting older with a dodgy spine I’m test riding the GT PRO, just find my 1250 GSA a bit of overkill these days. Given the performance I think the Tiger would be perfect as I’m a road rider who loves long trips. Agree with you that the colours are more interesting.
The only problem I have with the 850 sport now is the 660 Tiger, which is around £1000 cheaper and might be a better bet out of the two for me. Looking forward to comparison videos that will be coming up.
Went from cb500x to this and the added power/torque makes for a much more enjoyable time. I should imagine the 660 would be more like the 500x, so for 1000 extra this would be my pick for sure.
My partner did 661km of riding in a day last week no trouble on her Sport. All the roads where twisty and 70km of it were gravel. She was happy to do more
A3 and the Hindhead tunnel… quicker but not as much fun as the old devils punchbowl road. Fair play on triumph for adding an entry level version of the ‘bike. Can always retro-fit bits as you need them I guess. Fantastic job chops, hope that cold passes soon. Catch you out there…. 👍👍
Love the reality of your review. Freezing your butt off having to do some miles, not fake. Convinced me to get the GT - need that cruise control. Not a luxury anymore imo. Cheers
Nice video! This bike really shows how good a daily bike can be in such basic form vs so many so full of extras and electronics. It was great seeing the Hindhead tunnel. Many a time I would drive through there in previous employment, under the amphitheatre. Milton Keynes with the autonomous delivery trucks; whenever I visit MK with my boys we look out for those. I digress. Good on ya, bringing us such a great video review, and with a stinking cold as well 👍
Mate I bought two one for me one for her ladyship i have had all sorts of bikes over the years but this is everything i need it does lots of things very well and it ticks all the boxes. If I want a fast bike then buy a fast bike if i want a desert basher buy one of them. This bike does everything in its stride and i think it was clever of Triumph to do this. Ps nice video.
Great bike, the simplicity reminds me of my ktm 1090s, nice screen on the triumph and the only thing that’s missing for me are heated grips and hand guards 😊
Good review of this tiger and triumph are doing so well with this highly rated model. I’ve downsized from a r1250gs to a gt pro because of a back injury early 21 and enjoying how light and easy to ride. The ride is extremely good perhaps not on a par with the gs but I’m loving it. It was £4000 cheaper than a replacement gs and can highly recommend it to us older bikers who need something a little lighter. Just want to get abroad this year. Happy new year and stay safe.
The Yamaha Tenere 700 which I own is very very popular and that is a back to basics adventure bike. You only get abs on it as a rider aid. I'd say no doubt that other manufacturers have clocked onto the popularity of the Tenere and want to offer a similar product
Add a set of hand-guards to eliminate wind on the hands - it helps a lot. I have a 2020 Tiger 1200 SE Desert Edition which I think is XCA - not sure. Anyway, it's the trail biased one with wire spokes and all the gadgets and modes except the heated seats. I don't need all the modes, but here are the things I wouldn't want to give up - cruise, heated grips, and the blipper/auto shifter. Love that blipper - it's integrated with the ABS/IMU/traction control to keep me from downshifting too fast, meaning you can downshift too fast without wheel hop.
Bought an 850 Sport and added heated grips, handlebar protectors, crash bars, headlight protector, upgraded skid plate, quickshifter, tank guard and an extra USB. I may change the windscreen to the upgraded GIVI. I consider this my 899.5 Sport...lol. Only thing missing is the cruise control and a few riding modes from the 900. I can live with that and didn't spend the farm on the 900 which I don't really need. Don't sweat the front forks being a fixed load. You can always change the springs or the oil in them to suit your driving style. My only gripe is the TFT. The display is weak and a bit hard to read and decipher sometimes. Anyhow... Love my Sport.
Sweet, picking one up sat, the guy added all of that plus full paniers and top box. Bunch of other stuff. Non cruise is a deal breaker, but gonna make it work for the price!!
Thinking about getting this and just tossing a throttle lock on it, they work well enough. Don’t even need the heated grips have the hot wired heated gloves.
Made me chuckle when you mentioned the delivery androids in MK, I’m in a little village off of Newport Pagnell and then things are everywhere😂… Real pain at zebra crossings as they take forever to figure out where they’re going🙈 Think this is a good budget option for daily commutes and I’m sure the big triple will go on forever too👌🏽
It would take a finely calibrated tush to tell the difference between 84 and 94 horsepower. I own a Tiger 900 GT Pro but I can appreciate the 850 there is several however those extra features do make the GT Pro worth it to me. Several features I've never had before but would not give up now that are absent from the 850 but the extra horsepower isn't one of them. My wife and rode two up with the three hard bags and averaged over 48 U.S. mpg in over 1800 miles so I agree the range is up there. I can see why some might choose the 850 over the 900 but a lot of rider friendly items especially for all seasons riding make the 900 slightly better for me.
What year bike do you have? Do you have the new "T-Plane" engine? I was 100% sold on getting a Tiger, because I wanted the electric smoothness of the triple. But then at the last minute, they changed all their engines to a rougher running "T Plane" crankshaft.
@@Ritalie I have a 2021 Tiger 900 GT Pro. I also have had a 955i and 1050 Tigers and this is the best engine of them all and that includes the Tiger 800 which I rode quite a bit as my buddy owned. Compared to the previous Tigers I'd say there is a tiny bit more vibration over 95 mph. There is a difference in vibrations but it isn't a bad difference and as one whose fingers are affected by vibrations I have ridden 5 days and almost 2000 miles on one trip without any discomfort. The Tplane motor gives better pulling down low, and a lower center of gravity and is much lighter feeling than the Tiger 800. I was a big fan of the Tiger 800 but this engine is just better in my opinion.
Great Vid Chopsy. I watched TMF and Dan's videos which persuaded me. Add a pair of Barkbusters and the Triumph heated grips and it's perfect. Don't right it off as a useable mild green laner. I took it over Salisbury plain yesterday. OK the deep mud was too much although I think that's more down to the tyres than the bike but handles the gravel, potholes and stone tracks absolutely no problem. Takes me back 30 years to my younger days hooning over the Blackdowns. on my old Yamaha DT125.
One interesting test to do next time,is the Internet is full of chatter that E10 fuel is less efficient than E5, easy to do brim to brim fills on bike tanks like you did here to confirm if it true in modern E10 motorcycle
Right, in place of Brembo stylema as nice as they are add cruise control and heated grips. Maybe even a IMU. Personal opinion, every bike should have cruise control.
I am hoping to get out on a Triumph tiger soon! I am interested to see what they are like compared to my GSA! I'm with you on this one with the colour! That one looks 👌 the others are a bit bland! Happy New year!
You can spec most things (except cruise) and still save money by getting the spec you want. Unfortunately it seems like the “go large” mentality for everything in the UK (like the huge number of massive tank BMW R1200GSAs sold to people who can barely manage them and have no use for all the toys) makes buyers frown upon this approach. Triumph deserve to sell loads of these and should be congratulated for making a bike riders need, can fully use, and might be able to buy without getting sucked into the PCP merry-go-round! Even with heated grips and a centre stand plus luggage it’s still cheaper than the basic GT Pro or most of its rivals, without really losing anything.
If I had to stop at Milton Keynes, I'd give up and get the train. Interesting review though. I think simpler and lighter is the future for bikes. You may quote me when it transpires. H2s? Nah!
Great honest review there Chops, think I’d get the 850 sport and put aftermarket heated grips on personally. Have you ever tried a aftermarket cruise control/throttle lock? Seen one approx (£155) made buy Atlas, wondered if you’ve any experience with them.
Certainly an option for reducing your financial commitment and maybe a lower seat height too. At 5’6” with a short leg, the rally pro was likely not the best choice, but we also use our eyes and the Rally Pro seduced me with its looks. I did nearly 800 miles in one day riding it back from Munich to go to the ABR festival, without feeling fatigued, which isn’t bad for a 58 year old. I have ridden the bike in temperatures down to 1’C which was hardly noticeable with the heated grips and heated seat 😉 I have not taken it off-road, however I hope to get some training this year 🤞 Ian Back on Two Wheels
Nice homely review Chopsy. I can see how the Tiger could become someone's Old Faithful. Hilarious how you dubbed in the audio from the Loo. Hahaha!! Original content 👌🏽.
Just subscribed. Great real world review Chopsy.. I’m back into biking this year after a 10 year hiatus..I’m on a 16 Versys 650 Adventure. Had some great fun..Looking at a GT Pro next year and your review v useful, as was TMF’ers. Not many nodders around nowadays it seems! Hope to meet you at the ABR Festival in June..the Thursday night looks fun. Atb for 23..ride safe! Alan - Mr G.
A3 & M25 hmm definitely definitely definitely need cruise control, sneaky mobile camera units on the A3, M25 variable static units - plus the wrist ache. Other solutions for the lack of heated grips, muffs to after market from Oxford etc. I would spend the extra personally and buy the not the 900 but the new 1200 hell yeah………..(in my head), and then buy a V Strom 1050xt lol. Great review Chopsey, hope that BeMoto meeting was successful 👍
I love this bike Who needs all those Gizmos Motorcyclist’s Adam Wahid is saying it’s very much like the CB500X In Israel 🇮🇱 this basic Tiger 850 costs 11,000 USD more than a brand new CB500X…(no mistake here) Would anyone in their right mind pay that difference? Thanks for your review 🍻 Happy New Year 🎆 BB
Yes Vstrom 1050 is also very nice... would be a real tough choice between them.. Ear plugs are the Custom Fit Gaurds, link to them in the video description 👍
Nice review thanks. Shame about the speed readout though - that "0" before the rest of the number would annoy me, and unless I went on an autobahn it would always be there.
i find it hard to get excited about these type of bikes although i guess on a long ride or a touring holiday is when youd feel the benefit of them. hoping to do some mid range tours in the coming year on my mt09 as its comfy enough. the only thing that worries me is the tank size, might have to go easy on the throttle lol.
Ooh, that's a little brave, pointing out that all the bells and whistles on motorbikes probably aren't needed. That's always been my opinion but I appreciate a significant proportion of bikes are bought on PCP and/or traded in when the warranty expires, leaving the 2nd hand market to worry about the cost when they break. Naturally enough manufacturers are only concerned with new sales. You missed one selling point as far as I'm concerned, does it have a center stand?!!! ☺
I'm sure you ment to say 9mph and not 90mph 🤔🤣Your right about it be a good price 👍 I got the 800xca and I love it but can't bare to get rid of my FJR1300 that I've had for over Ten years 🤣
Always go with the better spec because your resale value depends on it, nobody wants to buy a big standard secondhand bike thus the trade value is proportional lower
My riding buddy is looking at the Tiger. Hope he buys the 850 sport, I want to ride one. Resale isn't an issue for him. He keeps them all: 2001 Legend, 1977 Bonneville and 1967 Bonneville. I ride the 67 a lot and love it.
Is this worth the extra over the Circa 2015 1050 Tiger? Having a fancy TFT isn't important to me. The Tiger and the Kawasaki Z900rs would make an ideal 2 bike garage for me.
Chopsie, Officer Teapot would like for you to make an appearance at the local constables office to collect your riding achievement certificate. 90 in a 70 is a bit excessive, LOL… shudda seen me on I-75 on Tuesday, did all of 85 on a 70 here in Florida….shhhh
850 - £9.4K ..... 900 GT - £11.5K ..... 900 GT Pro - £13.2K. The 850 is a nice bike but it lacks a lot of the desirable features of the more expensive models... even the dash is downgraded from 7" to 5". If you try and up-spec the GT to match the GT Pro it comes in at over £13.5K and still wont have the electronic rear shock or 5th riding mode (they are not available as upgrade options) ... which in my book makes the GT Pro the best value and the one to have ... if ya can afford the extra £3.8K it's definitely worth it, especially if you love having ALL the toys 😉
Ive had an 800 Tiger from new, 2012, but Im thinking of getting a new one of these. It will be used for two up touring abroad and trips around the country to see my sons. As you know the original 800 is very smooth throughout the rev range, no vibes at EU motorway speeds, Ive enjoyed that as we often cover 500 + miles a day. Are the vibes, often mentioned with the 850/900, going to be a problem on long, fast, motorways ?
Strange Triumph shift assist is £350 on their configurator. Spend another £500 on heated grips and shifter and you have a bargain. I've test ridden the bike and was well impressed. The only thing at the back of my mind is do I save 2k or spend the extra and be grateful if or when the day comes that I have lean sensitive ABS and TC. I'd rather not be sliding down the road wishing i had spent the extra.
Cross plane crank’s are sort of a different situation on inline 3’s. Flat planes are all the rage for v8’s. Cross plane for Inline 4’s…not sure what is best for a 3 honestly
I can't wait for this trend to go away forever. UGH. So gross. The sound of a flat plane engine is just AWFUL AWFUL. They took the best sounding inline triple engine, and the best sounding American V8 engine in the Corvette, and they totally ruined them. They ruined the Ford 302, and the Yamaha R1 too. Many engines are being converted to a "crossplane." If you read about the flat plane/cross plane/T-Plane crank design, it is actually an irregular, odd crankshaft, that creates severe balance issues, and so you they have to completely redesign the engine in order to get rid of the strange harmonic vibrations. The irregular sound makes for a really awful exhaust note. On a flat plane, the firing order is "irregular" which ruins the distinct sound of a triple, or V8.
Great bike this isn't it Chopsy - I'm with you, if you're in the market for a mid sized adventure bike, this is the one to have - great value, comfy, looks good, goes well....what more do you need!
We are in agreement yet again! 😁

Yes it's true and I do agree! thanks buddy 👍
Yeah I agree. My ugly old Versys 650 get me anywhere fast enough, just not in style.
I have others bikes for style.
I have one, and I get terrible range in city riding. Its geared in a way where the long range riding has okay range. City stop and go is quite bad.
Oxford heated grips, bark busters and a kaoko throttle lock will sort the missing bits for less the £250. Nice bike. Great video 👍🏍
Love my Tiger 900. All I would say, is if you're planning on riding through the winter (as I do) then the heated seat, heated grips and the hand guards are an absolute godsend. The illuminated switchgear also helps during the dark mornings and the early sunset times in the winter.

Ah OK, yes I forgot about the GT version! Wow 4k difference then that's incredible value on the 850 👍
Your "full comfort" GT-spec' sounds right up my street. Nice.
I think that's a solid bike for the money, and £50 worth of Oxford heated grips and perhaps some hand guards for the wind protection is all it needs.

I did nearly 800 miles in one day riding it back from Munich to go to the ABR festival, without feeling fatigued, which isn’t bad for a 58 year old. I have ridden the bike in temperatures down to 1’C which was hardly noticeable with the heated grips and heated seat 😉
I have not taken it off-road, however I hope to get some training this year 🤞

Back on Two Wheels
I'm impressed
Nice homely review Chopsy. I can see how the Tiger could become someone's Old Faithful. Hilarious how you dubbed in the audio from the Loo. Hahaha!! Original content 👌🏽.
Haha thanks 😊 👍
Just subscribed. Great real world review Chopsy.. I’m back into biking this year after a 10 year hiatus..I’m on a 16 Versys 650 Adventure. Had some great fun..Looking at a GT Pro next year and your review v useful, as was TMF’ers. Not many nodders around nowadays it seems! Hope to meet you at the ABR Festival in June..the Thursday night looks fun. Atb for 23..ride safe! Alan - Mr G.
Thanks Alan appreciated buddy 👍
A3 & M25 hmm definitely definitely definitely need cruise control, sneaky mobile camera units on the A3, M25 variable static units - plus the wrist ache. Other solutions for the lack of heated grips, muffs to after market from Oxford etc. I would spend the extra personally and buy the not the 900 but the new 1200 hell yeah………..(in my head), and then buy a V Strom 1050xt lol.
Great review Chopsey, hope that BeMoto meeting was successful 👍
Thanks Andrew 👍👍
Needs shaft drive cruise and heated grips. Otherwise nice bike, happy new year 🤓😎🏍💨💨💨💨💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦🥂
Top review as always choppers old boy, im actually only interested in litre sports bikes but you make me wanna buy a tiger 🤔🤔🤔
I love this bike
Who needs all those Gizmos
Motorcyclist’s Adam Wahid is saying it’s very much like the CB500X
In Israel 🇮🇱 this basic Tiger 850 costs 11,000 USD more than a brand new CB500X…(no mistake here)
Would anyone in their right mind pay that difference?
Thanks for your review 🍻
Happy New Year 🎆
BB
Blimey that's crazy expensive! 👍
Great review Lamb Chop
I’m 5’1” so I want the 900 GT Low version. I wish that I could order the 850 lowered from the factory like the 900.
How would you compare it to a V Strom 1050, and what are those ear plugs you have in? Cracking video as usual Chopsy keep up the great work!
Crikey Chops, back home for a nice hot bowl of Heinz tomato soup after all that.👍🇬🇧
Yes I needed it! Bloody freezing 🥶
Great video!
Nice video! What phone holder are you using? It seems reliable and well positioned. Thanks!
Greetings from balmy Thailand
The boys Down Under sell a cruse kit for the tiger 850. Less than 1,000 usd.
You need to jump on the bandwagon and get all the heated clothing 😂😂
Haha yes wish I had! 🤣👍
Choppy ride for chops
Bet you got a few 'wtf is he doing' off other motorists with your hand gestures like an Italian having a heated discussion 😁
Nice vid chops.
Mamma Mia!
Haha yes probably! 🤣 👍
I think I'd prefer the tiger sport 660. would be a good comparison video.
Great video mate. Will this bike be to big for me at 5ft 7inches
Happy new year, can you review the z900 please chops, thanks.
Happy New Year Christopher, yes will sort it for next year 👍
Why skip the GT? Bang for buck I reckon the GT (not Pro) is the sweet spot,,,, but for what I do and where I ride the 850 is all the bike I need.
With no heated grips on such a journey, I’d be interested to know what gloves you used? Great video as always thank you.
I used the Knox Zero3 gloves, very good Winter gloves but eventually on such a ride the cold gets into any glove
Distinct lack of multistrada reviews on the channel, need some multistrada V4 reviews chopsy!! Pikes peak 👀
Yes really want to try the new Pikes Peak! Very excited about that bike
Almost every bike should have cruise control, but that’s my personal opinion.
Is this worth the extra over the Circa 2015 1050 Tiger? Having a fancy TFT isn't important to me.
The Tiger and the Kawasaki Z900rs would make an ideal 2 bike garage for me.
Can we see you get your mitts on a Moto-Guzzi V85-TT and take it on a bit of a journey Chopsy, pretty pleaseee??
Will see what I can do! 👍
@@LambChopRides Thank you Chopsy!
Happy New Years!
6:20 what kind of earplugs is that? Any links?
👍👍👌👌 but ya don’t need all them gadgets on a bike , abs / tc / heated grips that’s about it chops 🥸
Yes I would tend to agree!
5:50 I see that you have a similar problem with vibrations, any clue how to fix that?
What were your thoughts on this versus the Transalp 750?
The Tiger I would consider. Really good value. Why did they call it an 850?
Yes no idea... As I said at the beginning the naming of this bike is very odd...
I believe it’s simply to differentiate it to the 900, as it’s the entry level in the range, in the same way bmw do with the 750 and 850 gs
Not seen any petrol stations for a while... As he rides passed a BP petrol station 😂😂😂
Yeah as luck would have it! 😆👍
@@LambChopRides keep up the good work and let's hope for a happy 2022
Strange Triumph shift assist is £350 on their configurator. Spend another £500 on heated grips and shifter and you have a bargain. I've test ridden the bike and was well impressed. The only thing at the back of my mind is do I save 2k or spend the extra and be grateful if or when the day comes that I have lean sensitive ABS and TC. I'd rather not be sliding down the road wishing i had spent the extra.
I'm looking at a BMW 850 GSA and the Triumph 850 sport.
I'm leaning very heavily towards the triumph. $5,500 less then the BMW
Since I'm watching this vid... can I assume you made it home despite the freezing fog? 😉
Yes indeed haha 😄
I managed a 200 mile range on my Tiger 800 with a smaller tank.
Yes but I wasn't just riding ultra sensible, was pushing 85 / 90 at times cruising. That really effects fuel consumption
Starbucks! Where is the BMW?
@@Ritalie i disagree. You’re oversimplifying it. Variety is the spice of life.
