Open Gate: please Sony enable open gate in a future firmware update. You've got a 36x24 sensor in there, let's use it to its full potential! If it needs to be a paid upgrade that's fine, just give us the option. 🙏🏼

He says in the video that they will be adding a 4:3 option in future firmware updates. So im sure theyll include open gate since the purpose is to enhance anamorphic shooting

​@@phillipbeebe5997 he mentions a 4:3 mode for S35 anamorphic lenses which require an image circle a lot smaller than what open gate Full frame would offer. It seems pretty clear to me that's what they're talking about here and not open gate. The fact they mention 4:3 scan mode specifically when discussing S35 anamorphic lenses tells me they're thinking about a 4:3 crop close to what your typical 4 perf (~24.89x18.66mm) or maybe they'll choose an area a little bit bigger for increased resolution but I'd be (very pleasantly) surprised they're thinking open gate. If they were they'd mention it, right?

@@jgb211 ahh yah went back and watched that part and your right, i just assumed they would include 4:3 for open gate but your right. Sighhh still im hopeful they add it although they might not so it doesnt compete too heavily with Venice.

@jgb211 I have a Burano on pre order and my biggest gripe is the lack of higher frame rates in all of the codecs. Not sure they will add that to a firmware update for the same reason being not to compete too heavily with the venice.

​@@phillipbeebe5997 My biggest hope is the fact they put a 36x24 sensor in there which makes you wonder why would they do that if they didn't plan to use that extra height somehow. It might have made more sense to use a smaller sensor to save costs (larger sensors are harder to make and have lower yields). Unless it's a manufacturing thing where it's more cost effective to manufacture this sensor size because of their other FF sensor lines. And/or perhaps it's the same sensor as the Venice 2 even though they claim it isn't. So they have a single 36x24 sensor manufacturing line for the two cameras.
I don't think they're voluntarily crippling the frame rates, Venice 2 has similar frame rates and they have no reason to hold that camera back. It's probably a sensor design thing so I wouldn't hold my breath for better frame rates via FW. I'd love higher frame rates but with IBIS, AF and X-OCN, this camera is pretty much my dream camera already.

Thanks for that clear tutorial. As a DOP I would have loved to have seen some nicer lighting on Alister and the camera. An update that gives crop in between the 6K and the 5.8 modes is essential for us to get the most out of our super 35mm glass.

I cannot read the files that's shot in X-OCN LT. Premiere won't read it, Davinci imports the file as audio file and cannot playback. Screen app also cannot read it.

You need the paid version of davinci to read the files.

Sony's Catalyst browser will play them back nicely and let you do a little pre-grade.
