  • Go behind the scenes with 3x Academy Award-winning cinematographer Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki and conservation photographers Cristina Mittermeier and Paul Nicklen, co-founders of SeaLegacy, as they put Sony’s new digital cinema camera, the BURANO, through the paces to capture footage of the endangered Southern Right Whale and to create an important film on the ocean and the future of the planet.
Together, the three filmmakers put the BURANO through its paces to capture the beauty of Western Australia and some of its most elusive ocean residents. The filmmakers also combined the VENICE 2 with the BURANO to show the incredible image quality of the new BURANO. This film would not have been possible without the help of our incredible partners at Park Pictures, Keslow Camera and XM2 Aerial.

Must be a (wet) dream to film underwater with a Burano. Unfortunately the Nauticam underwater housings do cost about as much as the camera itself. And you need terrabytes of ultrafast storage and extra battery capacity to be able to film during a dive of just one hour! I'm afraid 8K underwater filming will remain a wet dream for me, so I'll continue UW filming in 4K in 2024 with my GH5 in its Nautical housing, a TG6 aside for macro and a Gopro11 on top as a B-cam. Three weeks Indonesia, Bangka Island and Lembeh Strait, 20 hours of UW filming planned. But one day, you never know. And no, I don't need a whole film crew. 'What you see is what you get', and there's no second chance. 'Chasseur d'images'. Literally breath-taking.

It is an awesome camera! Camera's these days are just too good. When the a7siii came out, that was it. They could have stopped there :) I use my a7siii more than my fx3 and fx6. But I'm a weirdo.

You use the a7sii… an 8-bit camera… more than your more superior FX3 and FX6 offerings?
Good luck on your creative projects, sir.

Personally I find it deceiving to not label what shots are on what camera. From the BTS, most of the shots that made it into the film look to be on Venice. Isn't this supposed to demonstrate what the Burano can do? Why not label them at least in the BTS? More transparency would be appreciated.

Always found curious that the label shot on Burano and Venice starts with a lot of B-roll of aerial images, most likely not shot from these cameras. We know the intention, but they could be more precise on the footage really related to it.
This happens with other manufactures as well.

@algarveTV All footage came from the cameras mentioned. Aerials were shot with the VENICE 2
