kate showing us how its done yet again. a christmas single with no commercial value just like the rest of her work, if you want to hear it you will find it. never made a song for hits or record charts otherwise we wouldnt be hearing such art. wish some of todays "artists" would write songs without catchy commercial value being the central focus which leaves us with boring cheaply produced hits that are made for a cheque and are forgotten in weeks. kate never let the industry or money effect her art which is why its always been so unbeatable

I'm embarrassed to say that I've never heard of this song before but after hearing it just once Im hooked and I thought I was a fan of the brillant Kate Bush and I was 10 when I first heard her magical voice on TOTP singing Army dreamers.. how on earth is this gem not on the airwaves every Xmas and it was released in 1979...Kate.. your are a musical genius.

army dreamers also introduced me to the magial realm of kate bush. couldnt believe how someone could write and sing a song on a difficult subject at just the age of 16. she never wanted to be a celebrity just wanted to express her vision. she kept the mystical old english theme alive and i think some people get scared by her ghostly enigma or either adore it
this is a musical masterpiece the complex melody that goes from dramatic falling to gentle snow falling and pitches of warmth and cold just goes to show how connected kate is with expressing and becoming one with the feeling and also fictional place that puts you in a completely different world she is one of the greatest visionary genius's let alone musically vocally or lyrically . she was ahead of her time but also behind her time she wanted to share the mystical senses nature have

The first EVER Kate Bush song I heard as a four year old on my parents Christmas compilation tape in the 80's ...it's one of the most magical songs I've ever heard....so many good memories attached to this song....magnificent :-)
+Alan Lynch Hope she doesn't mind butting in, but if it's the same one it's called It's Christmas Time released in 1992 by EMI records. I also had it on cassette which will probably be the version she heard in the 80s.

We had It's Christmas as our Christmas compilation. Just found a copy in time for Christmas :D I think ours was 1989 release.
Very underrated song. Not even in the British or US Top 100 Xmas songs. And zero air play. To be fair, this is a diff version from the single & only accidentally was even released. That said, I’m sure there are “ experts” who don’t think it’s “Christmassy” enough. So this stays buried while we get to hear another 10,000 plays of “All I want for Christmas is You”. 🙄

I cannot see December out without revisiting to hear Kate sing this....1979...I was 21 years old....I had been a fan of Kate's since the previous year...I gave birth to my Daughter on 5th December 1979...I called her Kate....She is beautiful...she is musical....This is such a special time of year for me....and Kate Bush singing this song is just the finishing touch.....🧡🌹🌈🌺
I had a friend who was a huge fan of Kate's and always said if he had a daughter he would name her Kate. I found him again a couple of years ago after being out of touch for years, and yes, he has his Kate :)

One of the (many) things I regret about growing up in the USA is that Americans overall have never given this artistic magician the attention she so richly deserves.
This song came into my mind today. Still not sure why, other than perhaps the obvious - we need all the magic we can get these days.
I would say that I prefer the 1980 studio version... but... the 1979 version has such a beautiful, simple beauty to it.

One of three or four Christmas songs that still give me shivers in 2021. I watched this Christmas special fascinated and mesmerised by her and I still am. I taped the entire show on a National Panasonic tape recorder and played it constantly until it literally wore out!
My then 18 year old imagination filled in the missing visuals and if it is at all possible to fall in love with someone you have never met or spoken to, I did.

For me the others would be Judy's original version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", Bing's version of "I'll Be Home For Christmas" I also love MIchael Buble's version too, and "Blue Christmas" by Elvis or Shakin' Stevens (don't shoot me but I actually prefer Shaky's version) 😁

You never hear this song being played in shops at Christmas time. Which is sad, because it is the best one by a country mile!

truly gifted, I grew up listening to her and will continue to do so until I'm done. (& beyond as she will no doubt grace the mourners at my funeral)

A true Christmas classic. Should have been a Number 1 hit .
Certainly should have got a damn sight higher than #29, that's for sure. Inexplicably it didn't get a TOTP appearance, not on the 4-12-80 show when it entered the top 40 nor the following week, even more inexplicably when it got into the top 30 at #29. The following week it went down a place and that was that. Had it got a TOTP outing I'm convinced it would have got into the top 10 as KB was probably at the peak of her popularity then.

When I first heard this song, I was working in a bookstore in Texas. A coworker knew it as 'the Papa DiGiorno song,' and after the novelty of his nonsensical lyrics faded a bit, it took a few listens to train myself to hear what she's actually saying.

Kate is incredible. Every one has their own musical tastes. Kate is often overlooked because she doesn't churn out commercial pop songs on demand. She is above been manipulated and writes when she wants to. Everyone on this page knows what a rare talent she is.

Have vague memory that this Christmas Special was repeated in 1980 or 1981 - seem to remember getting home late, everyone gone to bed, and finding this on the telly (this was obviously way before catch-up TV - even VHS was rare!). Every time I see this now it takes me back to a special place in time, really fantastic performance of a great song. Look up the lyrics if you haven't already done so!
When things were a bit looser on eBay than they are now I bought a home made dvd of the Christmas special. I remember the initial broadcast too - seems strange now, such an almost avant- garde artist doing a show along the lines of Cilla or Les Dawson! Still, she was never afraid to colour outside the lines.
I had the “bongo” version on a Christmas compilation vinyl lp. Sold it at a car boot sale about 10 years ago. Regretted ever since...
