I think this song is one of the greatest Christmas songs ever written and performed. Kate Bush is a living legend and a "one in a million" singer/song-writer .
Kate never intended to record this, she wrote it initially to sing to her family at Christmas as a musical gift. Lucky for us they encouraged her to record it and release it as a single.
@@sebastianward324 No joke. I'm a certified Kate fanatic! LOL. I was reading scanned copies of Kate's old fan magazine "Homeground" from the early 80's. I don't know the volume number off hand, but there was an article written by Kate, and she said she composed the song to sing and play to her family during their Christmas celebrations one year as a sort of present. The family liked it so much that they insisted she record it, which she did a few years later.
@@mvellis3863 Ahh, when she wrote it years before the release in 1980 - might be the reason that it sounds so Lionheart-ish. The Never For ever album sounded different.
steelyman08 Easily the best Christmas song ever for me. I usually get sick of the endless plays of Slade, Wham et al, at this time of year. But this song i can play over and over, any time of the year!
@@teeniemcnee Her magic spell imagination and overall vocal performance plus the general sentiment. The time signature change for the chorus. The simple but evocative chrismassy instrumental scoring when the chorus kicks in. Her voice soaring up to signal the outro of the song. The understated guitar solo + anthemic nature of the outro. The hypnotic repeat and fade aspect etc, etc. Basically, it's a beautiful song.
This needs a Christmas number one...I work in nursing....lots of our young carers think is all new ...I played this in the staff room and got a massive response...it needs promotion.im an oldie.. Spotify again..share the hell out of it.
Absolutely love this song! I listen it all year round it never fails to make me smile. Such ashame so many people don't know it exists :-( it's just pure genius.
I really wish this beautiful song was recognised (in my opinion) as one of the best Christmas creations ever, and yet it's very rarely aired. I remember hearing this when it was first released and as usual Kate created the unusual. It's a masterpiece!
I love the way the song constantly changes all the way through.. I know she does that with all the songs she writes. Makes a change from just one melody all the way through as with most songs. I live next door to Tori Amos (she has the next farm across from me in Bude, Cornwall).. she idolises Kate and loves this track too!
Agreed, it's a largely unheard masterpiece. But for us Kate devotees it doesn't matter, we recognise the genius and love it. The unenlightened will discover it in due course.
The opening chords to this make me shiver. This track amongst all the thousands of other Christmas tracks brings back so many memories for me. Wonderful.
Best December song! Video as well as her voice are absolute magic ♡ Lyrics: December will be magic again. Take a husky to the ice While Bing Crosby sings White Christmas. He makes you feel nice. Fantastic and beautiful early Kate Bush track, another masterpiece musically but was never released on any albums, deserves far more plays at Christmas than it receives
+derbyshireracing She told actor Stephen Fry that she never ever wanted this track released at all, it was something she wrote as a surprise for a Christmas family gathering being planned by her brother Paddy.. so this almost didn't get recorded at all. I love it too, and it does feature on a number of Christmas compilation albums.
I always post this song, usually the live 1979 version of Kate at the piano, in December. Also have the single in a picture sleeve. Never seen this beautiful song cut with the brilliant 'Nightmare Before Christmas' until now. Utterly spellbound
This version of Kate Bush's "Dec. Will Be Magic Again" is phenomenal. Thank you for your fan video. Touched my heart. Good work, whoever you are. The metaphor of the birth of Christ has such delicious pagan overtones. "The world will be saved with the voice of a child."
I hadn't heard this version in years until recently. I can remember my Dad taking me down to the record shop in town & buying the single which was this exact version (minus the recent addition of Tim Burton of course). I remember the cover design & how mesmerising the reindeer's face was & I recall the Never Forever album design having the same effect on me. I would play this song endlessly on my Mum & Dad's record player & to this day, her otherworldly enchantment still has the same effect... beautiful & it is the epitome of Christmas.

My Favorite Christmass song forever
How did this never reach number one in the UK as a Christmas hit back then? Just a complete stunner!
Released in early November 1980 not late November 80 which is when most Christmas songs are released and dropped to 20 on Christmas week 1980.

God the 80s were a STUNNING musical era thank god I was in my 20s then - consider it a happy coincidence
