It's on 'It's Christmas' on EMI (1989). Had this on cassette since 1990 but tracked the CD down a couple of weeks back. Got the single, but the mix is rubbish compared to this version...
@@domfjbrown75 I had the 'It's Christmas' LP with this version of December Will Be Magic Again. I didn't know until years later that there was another version. These days it's the other version that gets played. Can you tell me where this version comes from. Was it the original recording or an alternative take? I agree, it's the best version.

We grew up with Kate Bush's music and I feel privileged and a little bit special to have done so. The father away we get from these times the more genius you realise artists like Kate Bush were. I heard this song for the first time just a few years ago (I'm in my 50s now) and I'm shocked at how much we took for granted. Hearing music as impossibly magical as this and thinking it was normal! Seeing Kate in her PJs , warbling along, stroking her chair to a mesmerising cocophany of magic, aggression, drums and chanting in an ecclectic cadence of high and low vocals where your not entirely sure who is singing who: is she channeling the song? or fighting with her music? Either way, this isn't normal. There is no template for this. And she calls this a a Christmas song!? My middle sister passed away last year. I'm not sure but I wish she would have heard it. Maybe she ahead of me already, listening to magical ethereal music like this in a place where it would be considered normal..
we are lucky to be in the same lifetime as kate, she is beethoven level of timeless, but maybe thats what happens when you get a truley skilled artist that puts their art before profits or fame
It's not possible for me to love her any more... without actually bursting. Oh and can I just say that her line "Come to sparkle the dark up" is bliss isn't it.
This is one of my favourite Christmas songs, loved it when I saw it on TOTP and ever since, she has a uniquely evocative way with words and music, quintessentially English somehow.
This was the song that I was introduced to Kate Bush with. It's the most beautifully unhinged piece of art I've ever witnessed, and Kate has continued to help me feel comfortable in my own skin ever since. Kate, wherever you are, you're incredible, my avant-garde Queen, I love you to pieces & back together again ❤
What an amazing performance! I have seen several times before but it is stunning. This artist has been a constant in my life since boyhood. Thank you Catherine xx.
I spent a lot of money about 18 years ago to purchase a video cassette filled with rare video clips and this was one of them - but it was horribly degraded and hard to make out. But still, I watched it over and over, mesmerized by this version with the bongo drums and alarmingly magnetic performance by Kate. What a treat to see it so clearly for the first time.
Every Winter comes I always want to listen Kate December magic since I was young, although this song is not so known to Japan, but for me one of my enchantment song next to Whuthering Heights.

Yes, I agree. This is my favourite Christmas pop song, but you never hear it on the radio any more (at least here in Germany), probably too excentric. I am glad to find it on YT, because it is not published on one of her records, as far as I know.
And here's to 2022, and Christmas 2023... One of these days this single will zoom back up the chart ti higher than 29 - but the world STILL hasn't quite caught up!
The official release was a different recording (or at least a very different mix), and was released as a single. When the "It's Christmas" compilation was released, the person assigned to collect the tapes to assemble the compilation grabbed this recording from the Abba Winter Snowtime Special instead of the single version. If that mistake had not been made, we'd have never gotten this version on CD - and I'd never have been able to replace the audio on this video.
Takes me back to childhood, when I was little, every year my mum would put on her christmas album cassette tape and this version of the song was on it. Stuck with me ever since. Listening again I totally forgot about that chanting at the start, when hearing it again, it took me back to my childhood

I love Kate and everything she has done. Some of her songs took a while to grow on me but when they did, they became huge favourites of mine. I think she's wonderful :)
She's a 50 year old mother. She doesn't spend 3 hours a day trying to maintain the body of an 18 year old like Madonna does - and frankly I wouldn't want her to. I'd rather have her spend the time working on music. That said, it's attitudes like yours that are the reason she didn't do any TV appearances or even interviews for the last album "Aerial" or any videos other than "King of the Mountain" (aka "the ELVIS video"). Thanks.
Different version than the single. I prefer the single one frankly. But this is quite beautiful. Saw her on Saturday Night Live in 1978 and fell in love then. Still in love 45(!) years later.
