Yeah it happened to others and my friend. Fortunately if you are using apple silicon MacBooks it’s recoverable with this method

ive been doing this step by step and the password hint always chamged to the one i put when resetting the password
but the password never gets accepted
I did this 4 times already and the hint always works but not once the password was accepted
i really dont know what to do about it anymore

I followed along and it asked me to choose my profile then requested the password that I forgot. So I ended up in the same situation.
The macOS recovery asked for me to "Select a user you know the password for:"

This method only works on m1 and m2 processors, it doesn’t work on older Mac’s. Also if your volume is encrypted it won’t work either I’m afraid!

Is this the same for “this Mac is locked” The system PIN is required to use this Mac on the screen?

My mac goes to the setting menu just like yours but the MacOS Recovery screen doesn’t let me get into the utilities. My menu options are just erase, about, startup Disk, reset & shutdown
