This was the beginning of the end of the classic Nick at Nite

Nick at Nite's last show of the Classic era was probably the Munsters in 1995 right in their ten year anniversary. After that, I still watched it, when they got stuff like Happy Days but it wasn't the same as the 1985 to 1995 era. I think the launch of TV-Land hurt the original Nick at Nite. They stopped the "Hello out there from TV-Land" stuff so they wouldn't confuse people as to which channel they were watching.

Nick at nite is directly responsible for me staying up all night as a kid. Most of 1993 was spent fawning over Shelley Fabares on the Donna Reed Show.

Mister Ed Nick At Nite 1988-1993. SCTV went out to pasture in 1990, The Monkees in 1988, by 1990 you said goodbye to the Short Lived Classic SNL, My Three Sons, Donna Reed, and Petticoat Junction to make room for Dragnet, Get Smart, Lucy Show, Beverly Hillbillies, Mork and Mindy, Rhoda, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Bob Newhart show came back on the air waves in late 1993 on Nick At Nite I still have the Better Living through Bob Marathon recorded on Scotch EG+. Me-TV has recently picked up these shows while TV Land jumped on the Reality Crap bandwagon with "How did you get so Rich", "High School Reunion", and "Happily Divorced". Of course, Gunsmoke, Bonanza (which I can get off the Encore Westerns Channel) is still on TV Land along with the Andy Griffith show, Dick Van Dyke also comes up every now and then on TV Land. The Hub plays some 80's favorites such as Alf, Laverne and Shirley, along with Mork and Mindy, and some 70's favorites such as Happy Days. TV One's got the Good Times, Sanford and Son, and the Jefferson's, Encore Classic has Night Court, and Magnum PI, Encore Black has Amen, Different Strokes, and What's Happening. Nowadays, if you live in San Antonio, TX you can get Time Warner Starter 2-22 service (which carries KSAT 12.2. Me-TV) and add a Cable Card/Tuning Adapter after you buy a Cablecard device such as a TIVO (I use mine exclusively as a Converter box and not a DVR) along with the Movie Pass (Encore Channels) for $8 extra a month. Hallmark Movie Channel airs Murder She Wrote, Mister Ed, Matlock, Perry Mason, and coming soon Diagnosis Murder (which was only available on Me-TV or Encore Suspense of which the latter dropped the show)

They do show old tv shows from the 70s and 80's. there is another channel that became more older shows. although I ahven't watched nick at night alot lately maybe it is more early 1990s era shows. What is current "old" tv on nick at night? rosanne? Friends? frasier? other shows?

  • @AnneLiesveld

that most people my age recognize that tv was better in the 1980's than in the 1990s in alot of ways and I dont' think that tv looks better in the 1990's than in 2000. who knows

  • @AnneLiesveld

so you are my age. :) I see. I agree with what you said about if it is before 2000 it is OLD! stuff is so much more modern. Part of it is there is so many more ways to watch "tv" that the simplicity of watching nick at nite is lame. While I recognize that the modern 20 year old doesn't recognize 50 years ago, I as well think that the modern kid of the 1990 decade doesn't appreciate 1990 tv the way our age respected 1980 t.v. part of it I think (just my thoughts they could be not right) is

It isn't too you but you might be a little bit older like me? Correct? To a 1998 baby (a 13 year old-the same age I was when I first half way consistently watched nick at nite) 1998 tv is "old" really old. and more modern tv is coming up. Am I correct on the age? No I don't think of it as really old but I am like I have to remember that 1998 tv/movies = the beginning of life of a current h. schooler let alone 1980s are before their time. Same feel as 1970s tv for me as a 1980s baby. WOW THAT
