Alright buddy, get ready to go to the state north of you to a town you’ve never heard of to your great uncle’s (Jokes aside, hope you’re doing well! I always get stressed when it happens)

Fun fact: the "blood that cannot be washed away" references Macbeth. In the play lady Macbeth tells her husband that "a bit of water washes away one's crimes" after he had just murdered the king. Later in the play she begins to hallucinate with blood in her hands that won't go away no matter how much water she uses to clean it. Bassically, the bloody hands represent sins that will never disappear.
Specifically lady MacBeth doesn't want to wait for the prophesy to come true, she encouraged MacBeth to make it happen faster and feels responsible for the deaths because she was encouraging them.
The idea of Dipper and Mabel potentially having to deal with the possibility of their parents divorcing definitely is something I wasn't expecting, but would explain their mindset throughout Gravity Falls, especially just before weirdmageddon.
Mr. and Mrs. Pines sending their kids away has to be the most wholesome thing ever. Instead of exposing them to the trauma of a messy divorce, they sent them somewhere where they could still have a normal summer vacation (not lol).
The divorce thing was one of my biggest fan theories about this show (right next to the Society of the Blind Eye still being active and Bill having survived from being erased from Stan's mind). That book answered so many theories. With that revelation everything I knew about Dipper and Mabel changes. Now all we need is a new series to confirm all that we have learned from this book, mostly because I can't read the book because I don't think it exists in my country. I only learn of what's inside it by listening to people like you reacting to it.
Honestly, this doesn't surprise me. When I first watched the show, I asked myself why these two were shipped off to live with an uncle they hardly knew in a town they had never been to before without their parents. I know every family is different, but a summer camp and an entire town that the parents likely never went to themselves are two VERY different things. They only thing I was able to figure was that their parents were trying to work out their marriage, or start the divorce proceedings like you mentioned, and didn't want the kids around to see the shit show. This is one of those times where I hate to be right. Like when I guessed from episode 1 of "Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure" that Cass was the biological daughter of Mother Gothel. I hope they figured it out! But, alas, we won't know unless Hirsch comes out with another book, comic or season of Gravity Falls. If we don't get another season, I want a copy of Dipper's pine tree journal with all the notes, hearing about how his last year of middle school was as well as the summer that followed. I also feel this would be a great companion novel to a season three like how Journal 3 was to the first two seasons.
I guessed Cass was the daughter of Gothel from the start too! The moment I saw her, I thought she was Gothel and was confused why she was casually talking to Finn before I realized she was a different character entirely. It was some race episode. I wasn't surprised to hear Gothel was Cass's mother but it was heartbreaking to realize Gothel left her own children behind.
“Shipped off to live with an uncle they hardly knew in a town they never been to before without their parents” also applies to the protagonist of the video game, Persona 4.
Technically, we don't know for certain that they ended up getting divorced. Maybe they just needed a summer to work on their marriage? Honestly, until confirmed otherwise, that's what I'm sticking to.
It feels so good to get gravity falls content like that craving for content is being satisfied. Would love if a new season went into the dark reveals about some of our fav characters dreams bc we would love more development for them. Like I would love for more Pacifica development .
It's a bit depressing knowing some of the darker nightmares of everyone. Wendy, Dipper, Pacifica and Mable specifically. Knowing what they suffer from makes a lot in the show stand out with moments between them.
Wow, I never thought that Dipper and Mabel's parents were going through a divorce, that totally changes everything about how we see them and why their parents sent them to their Grunkle Stan in Gravity Falls in the first place. My parents are divorced too, so I know what they're going through, as well as doing things that they are very passionate about to bottle up their feelings.
Dipper and Mabel's coping mechanisms definitely make sense considering the possibility of their parents divorcing. Dipper trying to solve the mystery of the journal gives him a sense of control and Mabel wanted a romantic relationship because she wanted someone she could depend on. She wanted someone who could never leave her.
People say she’s selfish, and blame/portray Mabel as an antagonist because of how she reacted to dipper being offered his apprenticeship by Ford, and say she guilt tripped him into turning it down. I already felt her reaction was justified, as she is only a 13 year old girl, how mature can you expect her to be? But knowing what we know now about their parents situation, in my eyes at least, it’s even more understandable/reasonable she reacted the way that she did.
That makes sense because in the episode "Dipper and Mable VS the future", when Mabel learns about the apprenticship before she runs out of the room, she yells "Your leaving me too!!"
Honestly that's pretty good of their parents to put their kids first like that. Rather than use them in anyway, their parents decided they should stay out of it. More mature than most parents.
This would actually explain a lot about why Stan took the kids for the summer in the first place. I mean Ford had probably alienated a lot of the rest of the Pines family when he cut contact to avoid Bill. So, when Stan took over his life, he still lacked any of the family connection he desperately wanted. Then, one day, his niece or nephew calls him up desperate for some place to send the twins while they go through the divorce drama. I mean think about it. When you watch the show, Ford is really the last person you'd want to send your kids to, cause from an outside view, he was up to some weird stuff. And Stan's actual circumstances weren't really any better. As for Stan, a family member comes to him begging for help like that. I really don't see Stan being able to say no, even if he really knows he should.
I think dipper was the one who really knew that all. Mabel may have a suspicion, but I think dipper wouldnt tell her because he is such a protective brother. Maybe he didnt even actually wanted to go home with mabel, and maybe he gave up this future oportunity with Ford just to be there for Mabel
It's funny, I actually _had_ a theory that their parents were getting divorced from the very first episodes. Not only are the twins sent to Gravity Falls kinda out of nowhere (as we know, they've never been there before), but also Stan isn't the type of person you would want around your kids, so it really looked like the parents really, really needed to get rid of them. But then it turned out that Stan took Ford's place, so the twins were actually supposed to spend the summer with a scientist, not a criminal, and I discarded that theory. And now, here we are.
i love the concept of the show growing up and maturing with it's audience. gravity falls really is one of the best shows ever it's so thought out and just perfect in every way. i was devastated when it ended and i have waited SO LONG for it to return and i love the direction it's going.
I've read that in The Book Of Bill, that in every other reality, Bill won. That it was basically a million in one chance that they survived their encounter with Bill. In the book, it shows Dipper,Mable, and Waddles comfortably going home having won the battle But with lots of other doomed versions of themselves around them. All of which only include Mable and Dipper with Waddles being absent. In addition to that, "The Shaman" (one of the first people Bill made a deal with and is still apart of Bill) predicted that a pig is involved in Bills down fall.I belive that if Mable didnt have Waddles they wouldn't have gotten the ending they did, which could explain Mables reoccurring dream of not being able to save Waddles, aka a "dying pig." He subconscious knew Waddles needed to be there.
With the new information about Wendy it’s a huge missed opportunity she never got a focus episode to show her beyond the scope of the Mystery Shack and the Pines family. Deconstructing her cool, calm and collected facade to delve into her past and lack of maternal figure in the present would make her so much more than just Dipper’s unrequited crush and a sometimes surrogate daughter figure to Stan depending on the episode (like Soos and the Real Girl). Sacred Distance, nice.
Plus, she is the only girl in her houselhold since her motherpassing. I am not sure this make the experience an more pleasant, since there may be times she feel like the odd one out, because the dad has plannned for some manly ativities or something.
this definitely explains why people felt a connection between mabel and bill, cause bill isn't afraid to give her what she wants so he can proceed to get what he wanted that is definitely why it was soo easy for him to finaLLY FIND a way into mabels mind.
5:55 In the Book of Bill we see that Stan and Ford celebrated Hanukkah which implies that they are Jewish and maybe Dipper and Mable are too so they would not celebrate Christmas.
The entirety of gravity falls having been a divorce trip (a trip that Dipper and Mabel’s parents sent them on to figure out divorce stuff) really changes everything. Makes it even a little sad even.
I liked when Stan decided to give waddles up to Mable and Dipper and told them if their parents have a problem with it then call him bro that legit made me smile a very wholesome moment blc I doubt they said anything after they heard gruncle Stan say something about it
This really recontextualizes that scene from season 2 not long after Ford was rescued and when Ford and Stan are argueing. Mabel overhears it all through the door, but when Dipper asks what they're saying she tells him they're planning to buy them puppies and icecream (or something like that). That probably wasn't the first family arguement that she overheard.
My parents are currently separated. I was an adult when it happened, but it didn't make having to adjust to a new routine in the same house but without my dad any less difficult. It doesn't matter if you're 8 or 18: you still feel like a helpless little kid when you're watching your entire world crash down and you can't do anything about it.
I still think the twins could’ve talked something out at the end, where Dipper goes home with Mable and still becomes Ford’s apprentice. Like talk with Ford online and take it as a summer job. Mable could join as an assistant.
Now this line makes more sense :”you were the only one I could count on and now your leaving me too “ Everyone thought she would have her parents when she got back but she most likely wouldn’t cause they would be to busy with devorceing to be with her dipper was the only one she had no other friends are mentioned she might not have many cause of her odd ness it explained why she got along with candy and grenda so well they didn’t think of Mabel as odd they liked her just the way she was and the only place she felt that was in gravity falls and in 4th grade that’s all we see so as much as people think she is selfish which she can be it’s just an odd preteen who she nobody outside of gravity falls she knew her parents would be distracted and all she had back home was dipper and the thought of her being alone frighted her so no wonder she didn’t want him to go dipper wouldn’t be alone in gravity falls and she would be alone
I always assumed their parents were going through a divorce, which is why i was never a mabel hater. My parents have sent me and my siblings away to stay with relatives whenever there was a rough patch.
Glad somebody finally talked about it. Everything from the Book you mentioned in the Dreams chapter is what stick out the most to me. Poor kids, Wendy and Pacifica. This really changes everything. And heck, this could be another part of their next character arc in what comes next.
As someone Who's parents Split almost 3 years ago this affects still today and even affected me even before so having this info on top the Pine twins feel more relatable for some fans at least I know I do
Also, if their folks were getting divorced, there was a chance that Dipper and Mabel would get separated that maybe their dad might take Mabel and then Dipper would have to stay with their mom or vice versa. Because it has happened before in the past where the kids end up being torn apart from each other just because their parents can’t get along. Which would result in the siblings, not having each other to rely on to handle a situation like that.
Judging b the fact the parents were considerate enough not to fight in front f the kids (Dipper has nightmares because he overheard them. He wasn't supposed to hear it) and that they sent the twins away to Stan so the could be sparred the arguments the divorce may cause between the parents, I have a feeling they did not want or ever plan to separate the twins.
That's just so sad. Wendy's mother is gone. Soos' father is also gone. Stanley left his parents who saw him as a failure and got seperated with his best friend brother Stanford for 30 years after a fight. Pacifica's parents are overly strict rich asses. Gideon literally controls his parents like a puppet. McGucket's memory got erased and he can't spend time with his son. Robbie's overly optimistic parents see him as an angel but he is completely distant from them. Sheesh, is there even a single happy family in Gravity Falls?
Want to know something messed up, if Mr and Mrs Pines are getting divorced, that means Mr and Mrs Northwest, despite being horrible parents, have a much more stable marriage. Dipper and Mabel Parents: good parents, dysfunctional marriage Pacifica's Parents: terrible parents, stable marriage. Sick irony at work
If there was ever a sequel series, I’d love to see the parents so the kids can rant at them for sending them away. They’ve got a couple scars no matter what.
Don't know how to feel with the divorce thing. No one thought about this when Mabel did what she did in the finale, it feels hard to try to see that trait in the kids with the show.
Well it’s not confirmed, it’s just a dream dipper has. For all we know it just means dipper FEARS it happening rather then it actually happening, so yea
As someone who has still maintained that Mabel was being a bit unreasonable with her reaction to Dipper being Ford’s apprentice, this completely changes my view of it. God it would probably feel terrible to have to return home alone to whatever mess awaits.
It’s funny, because virtually all of Bill’s ploys throughout the show were stopped by Mabel, and I would’ve assumed he hated her more than Dipper. The fact he landed on the shooting star when deciding between her and Dipper would die at his hand, it seemed deliberate, but this new context makes sense.
wait I have a theory *game theory music* in Mabel land, Mabel gives Soos and Wendy what they really wanted and Dipper didn't see what Mabel gave him, so we didn't see what it was, but maybe through the door was their parents together and happy, but Dipper knew Mabel would give it to him, so he didn't want to see it cause he knew it wasn't true
It seems like a majority of the modern Disney channel parents aren't together in present day, like Sasha's parents from "Amphibia" or Bill and Nancy from "Big City Greens" we've even had death separate a married couple which would be Manny and Camila from "The Owl House" and now there's this. I'm getting a lot of representation, lucky me!

My parents have had “divorce scares” as i call them and i understand the escapism that happens especially with my family being upset that my little sister was taken away to a home until she learns how to be a regular person and that people will do anything to just not think about it, i know i haven’t had it as bad as others but it does hurt when this happens especially with the loneliness without having the siblings you grew up with in the house
It certainly makes bills taunts and Stand call with their mom make more sense. I certainly can sympathize as my parents got divorced when I was like, 15, 16, so I certainly can see the points.
I feel for Dipper, heck I even remember the night I saw my parents fight, I just woke up and walked into the living room just to ask what was going. Then my Mom guided me back to bed and told evething was fine, only for my Dad to be gone in the morning.
Deborah and Mabel‘s parents getting it divorce? I never knew. I love this show so much. I was even watching it today. Wow I don’t have any words for this.
Dipper having repeated nightmares of hearing that fight, makes me wonder just how bad it was. Like parents can fight and maybe yell at one another, but can find a way to make up and compromise. But for it to be so scarring a kid had dreams of it repeatedly means it was a terrible conversation. And that they sent them away for what we assume was the whole summer to the point they had their birthday while away. Like most parents would want to find time to spend summer vacation with their kids and spend time with them on their birthday. Like honeslty sounds like the parents were too busy arguing to care about their kids possibly
What the pines were feeling is so dang real! While my parents were arguing all I could think about is where me and my siblings would go, what would happen, and alot of other things. Im not embarrassed to say Mable and dipper are my comfort characters due to similar issues/acts
Pretty likely. I get feelings that Dipper & Mabel didn't have much connections with Grunkle Stan before the summer. A lot of troubled couples send their kid to
I think a lot of good story telling could come if they do remain divorced, but the twins still become separated in a weird custody situation where they aren't ever in the same place together for very long. Then suddenly they have all summer together again.
The divorce thing also sort of re contextualizes Mabel's reaction to Stan and ford arguing while she and dipper are in their room(saying she thinks she heard Ford say he was getting them puppies made of ice cream, and then she says thats wishful thinking), and also her request to dipper to not be stupid like their grunkles were which ruined their relationship, she doesnt want her relationship with dipper to fall apart like her parents or her uncles
This makes so much sense, it explains so much and is also so sad! I really hope Dipper and Mabel's parents settled the things during their vacation...they deserve to grow up in a stable family, and even if not, they have their great uncles who care about them more than anyone else

I know everyone thinks if there is going to be a new season or spin off show it would be the next summer. However what if they go back to gravity falls for the holidays for an extended one or two months because their parents are divorced and they can’t take care of them at the moment.
Speaking of this book, is anyone gonna talk about his Abigail Blackwell from the Snti Cipher Society is totally Pacific’s grandmother? That’s one of the things that stuck out the most to me.
The possible divorce reveal was a mind-blowing plot twist that makes so much sense and I'm a little upset at myself for never considering it during the show's run and also long after. I love stuff like this that manages to continue the show's legacy, without downgrading the show itself by trying to do more seasons. There was once a time when I wanted to see more Gravity Falls, but after seeing a lot of revivals and reboots of other things that have only damaged their legacy, I'm happy that Gravity Falls ended on a high note and stayed that way to be tested by time.
You know, this actually makes a lot of sense when you take into account that the baby in A Tale of Two Stan’s might be Shermie. Which would imply that he’s in his early 40’s, which means that he and Dipper and Mabel’s parent had kids when they were really young. Which makes even more sense since they’re having marital problems. You know, Shermie Pines’ true age could be a video on its own.
Talk about a plot twist...

That’d definitely explain why they were shipped out to their Gruncle Stan, who they’d never met before and who was a famous wacko
Well remember that Stanley was impersonating Stanford who’s a genius, so the parents probably considered sending the kids there was a good alternative.

Cool!
The simple fact it sas Dipper wasn't supposed to hear show they tried not to expose the kids to their divorce as hard as possible.
Soos wanting to change his last name to Pines is actually so cute and wholesome
The divorce thing was one of my biggest fan theories about this show (right next to the Society of the Blind Eye still being active and Bill having survived from being erased from Stan's mind). That book answered so many theories. With that revelation everything I knew about Dipper and Mabel changes.
Now all we need is a new series to confirm all that we have learned from this book, mostly because I can't read the book because I don't think it exists in my country. I only learn of what's inside it by listening to people like you reacting to it.
I had theorized it once, but never actually thought it'd become canon.
Exactly
It actually made so much sense like OF COURSE she doesn't wanna be alone in that situation 😭
The problem was that she didn't learned
This is actually... very sad. It shines a new light on the show.
That makes sense because in the episode "Dipper and Mable VS the future", when Mabel learns about the apprenticship before she runs out of the room, she yells "Your leaving me too!!"
HOLY SHIT!! MABLES SELFISHNESS JUST SUDDNELY MADE SO MUCH SENSE
She didn’t know, so she was still just being selfish
Still, though. It doesn't justify it, but it explains it.
shut it

Honestly that's pretty good of their parents to put their kids first like that. Rather than use them in anyway, their parents decided they should stay out of it. More mature than most parents.
Someone timed 0:06 and said “dont make me simp again”😭
We love broken men here
My parents were divorcing back when gravity falls was airing, and it really helped me through. Crazy how that works
In the book, it shows Dipper,Mable, and Waddles comfortably going home having won the battle
But with lots of other doomed versions of themselves around them.
I think we knew this even before the book of bill because in journal 3 dipper says he saw stans bar mitzvah in a memory in stans mind
So that's why their noses are big and stan is obsessed with money.
although Stan and ford celebrated it, it says that dipper and mabel were raised non religious
They could celebrate it secularly tho. That's what my Muslim friends do
@@Notaxmerlol
The entirety of gravity falls having been a divorce trip (a trip that Dipper and Mabel’s parents sent them on to figure out divorce stuff) really changes everything. Makes it even a little sad even.
Man with this reveal, it makes more sense why Mabel acted this way, knowing what was waiting for her back home, is no wonder she lashed out like that.
Oooookay, now that hurt me in the heart.
Maybe they can go together.
Now this line makes more sense :”you were the only one I could count on and now your leaving me too “
Everyone thought she would have her parents when she got back but she most likely wouldn’t cause they would be to busy with devorceing to be with her dipper was the only one she had no other friends are mentioned she might not have many cause of her odd ness it explained why she got along with candy and grenda so well they didn’t think of Mabel as odd they liked her just the way she was and the only place she felt that was in gravity falls and in 4th grade that’s all we see so as much as people think she is selfish which she can be it’s just an odd preteen who she nobody outside of gravity falls she knew her parents would be distracted and all she had back home was dipper and the thought of her being alone frighted her so no wonder she didn’t want him to go dipper wouldn’t be alone in gravity falls and she would be alone
I always assumed their parents were going through a divorce, which is why i was never a mabel hater. My parents have sent me and my siblings away to stay with relatives whenever there was a rough patch.
What hurts these two don't understand Mom might have custody of Mabel and Dad gets dipper thus separating them or vice versa
Glad somebody finally talked about it. Everything from the Book you mentioned in the Dreams chapter is what stick out the most to me. Poor kids, Wendy and Pacifica. This really changes everything. And heck, this could be another part of their next character arc in what comes next.
As someone Who's parents Split almost 3 years ago this affects still today and even affected me even before so having this info on top the Pine twins feel more relatable for some fans at least I know I do
Dipper and Mabel could always join Tulip on the Infinity Train
Tulip is already off the train

I certainly hope so. 😢
Thats probably why dipper avoided mabel’s gift in the bubble. He probably assumed it would be about their parents making up.
Want to know something messed up, if Mr and Mrs Pines are getting divorced, that means Mr and Mrs Northwest, despite being horrible parents, have a much more stable marriage.
Dipper and Mabel Parents: good parents, dysfunctional marriage
Pacifica's Parents: terrible parents, stable marriage.
@@Mr.CannnnThough for him to start worrying about stuff like that does imply their parents might be going through a rough patch.
As someone who has still maintained that Mabel was being a bit unreasonable with her reaction to Dipper being Ford’s apprentice, this completely changes my view of it. God it would probably feel terrible to have to return home alone to whatever mess awaits.
The book of bill is the best piece of Gravity Falls media we’ve gotten in years
You guys are cooking with these pats videos ! Amazing work 👏👏👏
It’s funny, because virtually all of Bill’s ploys throughout the show were stopped by Mabel, and I would’ve assumed he hated her more than Dipper. The fact he landed on the shooting star when deciding between her and Dipper would die at his hand, it seemed deliberate, but this new context makes sense.
wait I have a theory *game theory music*
in Mabel land, Mabel gives Soos and Wendy what they really wanted and Dipper didn't see what Mabel gave him, so we didn't see what it was, but maybe through the door was their parents together and happy, but Dipper knew Mabel would give it to him, so he didn't want to see it cause he knew it wasn't true
It's was already confirmed that behind the door was supposedly to be Dipper accepting Ford's apprenticeship
That makes a lot of sense
Sounds possible. 🤔

This definitely gives more context for Dipper and Mabel...
Yes specially their behaviors
Dipper having repeated nightmares of hearing that fight, makes me wonder just how bad it was. Like parents can fight and maybe yell at one another, but can find a way to make up and compromise. But for it to be so scarring a kid had dreams of it repeatedly means it was a terrible conversation. And that they sent them away for what we assume was the whole summer to the point they had their birthday while away. Like most parents would want to find time to spend summer vacation with their kids and spend time with them on their birthday. Like honeslty sounds like the parents were too busy arguing to care about their kids possibly
Oof, that really hurts!
I already called this a long time ago
That they were send off so the parents could deal with the divorce
What the pines were feeling is so dang real! While my parents were arguing all I could think about is where me and my siblings would go, what would happen, and alot of other things. Im not embarrassed to say Mable and dipper are my comfort characters due to similar issues/acts
1:47 nah, it might be nightmares instead. 😂 the lil crap is traumatized
Pretty likely. I get feelings that Dipper & Mabel didn't have much connections with Grunkle Stan before the summer. A lot of troubled couples send their kid to
I became a child of divorce a while ago in March, so this puts a lot of things into perspective of how Mabel and Dipper act
If their parents WERE to get a divorce, could this mean they might move back to Gravity Falls (permanently)?
Damn the book of bill basically just turned this series, SO MUCH DARKER
7:57 bill here looks like he regrets some of his life choices
