    Coming in with this video at the right time!!!! I'm currently trying to figure out my dissertation topic. I am writing small research proposals, but I am pushed into two different directions: 1. Write a dissertation your passionate about 2. Write a dissertation that will land you a position/book deal. Thank you for saying you can do research in other areas as I do have other areas of interest outside of race and ethnicity and I like to explore those when I am done/write about.
    FYI I PASSED MY RACE AND ETHNICITY COMP EXAM!!!!!! Onto the next one in Education!!!

      YOURE AMAZING!!! CONGRATS ON PASSING YOUR EXAM!!!!!!!!
      and yes it can be hard to pick a topic.. I kind merged the two (my passion and a book deal)... and though I am not in love with the final product the research process was really fun. I think in my opinion following your passion may have a better return on your investment because you may still be able to turn it into a book! And then you don't have to do what I am doing... which is basically starting all over hahaha but I trust you will make the best decision for you! and no matter what you decide it will all be okay and you will still be successful!
      Congrats again on your progress! I am always so happy to hear from your sam!

    Your video is right on time. I thought my dissertation would have to define my life's work, but I didn't believe it for some reason. You hit on many points that I have been thinking about for a long while. Thank you for this content.

    This is so helpful-my chair deflated my tire when he implied my dissertation may be “acceptable but not publishable”😢 its so confusing because he loved it when I completed my proposal (first three chapters). It’s been hard to finish up since my last meeting ugh 😩

      @Heyu7her3 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hmmm. Do your findings & conclusion (final chapters) follow your thesis & methodology (first 3 chapters)?

      I completely understand ... professors can switch up on us... sometimes its valid but others it could be they are just in a bad mood! But it is so hard to push through with that hanging over you!! I am so sorry that happened. But again... if it is acceptable, once it is accepted you have time to revise post-grad to make it publishable (whatever that means) if you want to! try to be gentle with yourself!

    Thank you! I'm just starting the writing phase and feeling so worried. Did you do yours by monograph or article?

    • @BrisaMarie
      @BrisaMarie  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi!
      It is totally understandable to be a little worried! Its a very big and new venture! But I promise you will figure out what works best for you! And I can always be here as a resource!
      My department was interdisciplinary so there weren't many rules regarding how the dissertation was written. Honestly, I am not really sure what you mean by monograph vs articles (I was just never taught that distinction) So I am sorry if my response isn't very helpful but I can share some more details regarding the dissertation.
      My dissertation is a very short document lol its 3 chapters, with an intro and conclusion. I have 1 case study, and the first two chapters kind of answer their own questions... so in that regard it may be more like 3 separate articles than 1 unified book, even though everything is related.
      I have this video where I talk a lot more about how I set up my dissertation and maybe that can give more insight.

      Sorry again if I didn't answer your question fully!

      @@BrisaMarie Ah I'm in Canada so maybe the distinction is a Canadian thing. But it sounds like yours was more by article, which is what it seems most people in my program are leaning towards doing. Thanks for the link, I'll check that video out, sounds like what I'm looking for. Love your vids, thank you!!
