I grew up in New York, where the general attitude toward homosexuality is positive. Although I am not a homosexual, I grew up in a house with 2 mothers and a homosexual step brother. I always heard about the argument on television, but never saw it in person. When I was 20, I joined the US Army, where people have been trained to be homophobic. I was stationed in Georgia, which also has a very conservative population. I became great friends with a homosexual that had only told a handful of people. He was in a very dark place because of how pressured he felt from others, and the hate he experienced the few times he expressed himself. Ever since I saw how much damage the hate can bring I have been much more vocal about the acceptance of homosexuality. I think it's amazing that you guys had not only the confidence to come out to the people who mean the most to you, but also to the general public. You are setting an amazing example! Keep up the good work with the channels. I have been a fan for quite a while, and love the content. Cheers!

Gosh dang it. Why does society have all these stupid gender rolls? I'm a girl and I like playing video games, but as soon as I said it, the boy told me "Girls can't play video games."
Or when I was younger and hated to wear dresses, and make up, and all that, my grandma told me I was a Tom Boy, and that all the other girls was girls.
I'm a girl, but just because I like video games and anime and dislike make up and dresses, doesn't mean I'm not a girl.
I've always dealt with this. And a lot have changed, but I still have trouble with this. (Not always, nowadays, but it still happens.)
The other day a classmate told me to wear make up and dresses and change my personality to get a boyfriend.
But I don't want to, or need to do that because if that person don't like me for who I am then it's not worth it anyway. Plus I'm not looking a love relationship right now. (Or ever.)
And then another classmate told me, that, by not wanting a Boyfriend im at a lower level of thinking. (I have had "crush's" before but the feelings never last and I never pursue them.)
The thing is, is that people need to "grow up..." no more like evolve there way of thinking to meet today's standards. Because this way of thinking is honestly out dated and just plain stupid.
wolfenstar nice I totally agree. I hate dresses and makeup on myself, and instead will wear baggy t-shirts and sweatpants! I don't get that many comments about it, mostly because it's becoming more "acceptable" for girls to dress this way, but I do the same thing online. I will use male Minecraft skins or make my avatar a dude because I just like it better. I am not an Internet creep I swear! I always tell people I'm a girl so they don't get the wrong idea, and I've gotten a lot of hate for it in the past. Gender roles suck is what I'm trying to say, even though I went on a bit of a tangent XD

It's painful explaining that you're asexual. Some people are like 'Yeah, I get it' and some just look confused and can't understand, but people who are intensely homophobic just come across as unintelligent to me.
For example, my dad, he thinks it disgusting for two men to have sex because of the whole sausage to butt thing, but he also said that the whole sausage to butt thing is fine if its with a girl...its a stupid and bias concept to me and I just try not to listen.
And as for Christians who are homophobic, you know, the one who say all life is precious, and go on and on about the soul, seem to care more about someone's genitals than the person themselves.

Well, I think that means you're paying less attention to the illustrations than you are to the actual video and that's a good thing. Whenever I watch an AsapScience video I'm there to learn, the drawings are just visual representations that are used to help illustrate the topic they're topic about. And while I haven't noticed the homosexual stick figures before either, I think that's simply because it's subtle. Even though I keep my eyes on the video I'm not scanning every little part.
I think it's just very subtle and that we really aren't paying attention to the drawings, just the message of the video. And that's exactly how it should be.

As an old straight person with quite a bit of life experience the advice I'd give you is you do whatever you want to do, I love astrophysics myself it's a brilliant subject to study. Your sexuallity shouldn't come into the subject of your education either don't ever let anything hold you back from what you want to achieve or anyone for that matter. Best of luck with your future I hope you succeed in everything you want to do.
Davy Ro but the point she's making is that it is inspiring to see LGBT+ people in the science field for other LGBT+ people. In a world so deeply rooted in homophobia (even as we are becoming more accepting), a non-straight sexuality can be a hindrance, even though it /shouldn't/ matter.

Why does this need to be a thing, I don't understand why people need to adress others about their sexuality, I'm not running around telling people I'm straight, nor has anyone ever asked me, so why shouldn't the same rules apply to homosexuals. If you're looking for role models, there have been a couple of great names, my favorite one is Leonardo da Vinci, who was openly gay. Couldn't agree more. If lgbtiq people want to have equality in society, why do they make such a big deal about it? No-one ever "comes out" as straight, so why should lgbtiq people? It kinda annoys me that they tend to make a big fuss about it, like omg im gay wow ive been through so much etc.... Well, that's the thing. I've had a couple of colleagues who were gay. One of them came to me introducing himself, immediatly followed with: ... and I'm gay. So I looked a little confused at him and shrugged. On two seperate occasions two others never mentioned a word to anyone about their sexuality. Than at one time when they were alone with me, they told me, asking me not to spread it around, afraid for the consequences. A fourth time a close colleague never mentioned he was gay at all, we worked daily with each other, and he never "showed" that he was gay either. Until the time asked him if he was seeing someone, just out of interesting conversation. No, actualy I litteraly asked him if he had a girlfriend, at which he smiled and said, no, I have a boyfriend. The last thing is what was the least confronting in my eyes. Keep it real, don't shout out you're gay, don't hide it either, just be yourself and mention it when it matters.

Straight people have never been oppressed so obviously it's not a big deal for them to admit to being what they are. There is no "straight pride" parades for this reason. You, as a straight person, have not had to face hardships because of being born heterosexual. Because of the oppression, it can be very liberating to "come out" as a gay person. So I support them in this and am very happy that they feel comfortable enough in their own skin to announce this to their fans. I'm not going to ask why they "felt the need to do this" because it's pretty obvious.

I just like a half hour ago started watching them, and I didn't know til I saw this vid. I saw like four others first. I guess since it doesn't matter one way or the other to me, since I am not interested in them sexually, it's not really my business, but I do really love when people speak out. I am pansexual and am at a slight disadvantage when it comes to coming out, because it requires so much explanation. But that's my hangup. I am so proud of people who own it and use their own lives and personalities and status to bring awareness and science to other people!

Well said. I actually didn't care if they were gay when i first started watching their videos and being subscribed to them. His voice is a really nice voice over for the video anyway. Once I found out they were gay, I was like: "Oh, they're gay? Cool. Ok. Good for them. I'm still going to watch them, regardless."
Actually their videos on AsapSCIENCE inspired me to start this channel. The quality of their videos is outstanding. As for their sexual orientation I couldn't care less, I liked the fact that they made this video though.

What was said to you are some of the most common phrases said towards gender bias. Unfortunately, you can expect these phrases from men AND women. The bossy comment is especially common to come from women and even other women in male dominant fields. This occurrence, as well as other great career/gender topics, is explained extremely well in the book "Lean In" by Sheryl Sandberg. I highly encourage every individual to read this book...including every gender, race, and sexuality. I hope this suggestion helps others to tackle the problem of bias in our world.

People that use religion as an excuse to hate on homosexual people is ridiculous in itself. The most common religion that is used an excuse is Christianity so for the sake of this lets use Christianity as an example. First off, the entire religion is based off acceptance and forgiving. Yes, homosexuality is frowned upon but just as you are forgiven for your sins, they can be forgiven for theirs. (This is going by a lot of Christians also believe homosexuality is a choice). Your religion clearly states the acceptance and tolerance of homosexuals so saying hateful words or being physically abusive to people that are different is going against the bible. People are starting wars and violence under God's name, and you're worrying about two people loving each other?

They are so damn cute and I love them for what they said about being proud of being compared to women, I've been trying to explain how sexist it is to use femininity as an insult to men for so long. I am a non-believer in god and religion and one of the reasons I actually don't believe is that many religions teach stereotypical things to the children growing up. One of my friends is Christian and my best friends sister is lesbian. One day the fact came up in conversation and my friend started to hate on my best friends sister. We told him to shut up and told him to keep your opinions to yourself. I am not trying to hate on any religion but still I think that is one of the biggest reason gays are hated and ridiculed. A few days later my friend actually asked me if I was gay and if that was the reason I got mad at him. I almost burst with anger that he thought the only reason I was defending gays is because I am one. I think he thought that everyone who wasn't gay hated them. Pretty sure i proved him wrong. After that he never mentioned anything on gays.
JS-Obsidian It bugs me when Christians hate on or treat gays differently. That is not how christianity is supposed to work, they just assume that just because their religion doesn't support it means that gays are some how less than them. I'm Christian and my view is that obviously it is not simply a choice which seems to be most Christians view. I've never seen gays as bad people. In fact I had a few gay friends in high school. My point is that, at least my religion, doesn't teach that gays are evil or that we should even avoid them. They have specifically said that gays should not be treated any differently than anybody else. So just thought I should point out that Christianity doesn't teach children that gays are bad, or at least not my sect. Discriminating against anyone goes against pretty much everything most Christian sects teach.

How long do you guys think its gonna take until there is no "coming out" anymore? I mean being gay isn't going to be a big deal anymore in about 5 years or so. Its just gonna be completly normal to imtroduce your same-sex partner to your parents. Or at least as normal as it is for straight people.

You see The Pope of the Catholic Church said something along the lines of: "If a man finds him self with God and is gay, then who am I to judge?". I just think people use religion incorrectly another example is where the bible states everyone is made in God's image and that Jesus teaches you to "love thy neighbour". Religion is not the bad guy but instead the people who use it for harmful purposes. Anyway, we'll see if those five years work out or not. :)

While it's not about prejudices, there was a study not long ago about a link between confidence and intelligence. People with higher IQ's second guessed themselves much more often than people with lower IQ's. Basically, less intelligent people are more convinced they're right and that their way of thinking is right. I'm sure that plays a huge role in prejudices.

One thing people don't understand is gender, like nearly everything in the world, is a gradient. Women aren't women and men aren't men. There are "masculine" men, slightly less "masculine" men, slightly "feminine" gay men, "feminine" gay men, "masculine" lesbians, slightly "masculine" lesbians, slightly more "feminine" women, and "feminine" women. This a gross oversimplification of course, not even going into where intersex, bisexual, etc. people fall on the gradient.
