I've had a Standard for a year now, fly it round the farm whenever the weather permits. I fly missions using the Litchi App and can go as far as the battery will allow. Out of sight and behind hills it doesn't matter. Always comes home and lands exactly the same spot every time. Truly amazing.
I have a Phantom 3 Pro but would not have minded if I had received the Standard as my 1st drone instead. A friend of mine has the Standard and we fly together and have similar experiences in handling and video with each one. DJI Phantom is a great product regardless of what you want to spend as a drone hobbyist. I appreciate all of those who post their experiences on-line. Keep it up and I will keep watching.

Got one for Christmas. Super easy to set up and fly. My first drone ever. Highly recommended. Within 10 minutes of setup I was zooming around no problem
I've had a Phantom3S for a couple of months now and I'd agree with pretty much everything you say, but I would add the following. The biggest demerit with this aircraft is the wi-fi link, which loses connection at quite short ranges, especially when you fly behind things and don't have direct line of sight. Usually you lose video connection first, so the picture freezes on your phone, although often you still have control of the aircraft. I bought a cheap parabolic reflector off ebay, and this has had a noticeable difference in the strength of the rf signal. The other point is that using wi-fi when flying drains your phone or tablet battery really quickly, so make sure you buy a brick charger. I'll be trading up to a Mavic soon, but the P3 has been an excellent learner drone. It performs brilliantly, feels solid and stable in the air and is fast, allegedly faster even than the Phantom4, which in turn is faster than the Mavic, so if you're into speed then the P3 Standard is a great buy.
My neighbor gave me his standard. To me its like flying the space shuttle, with all the features its fantastic! I was part of the really early RC world, we had bang bang escapements and one channel! It took a long long time until all this was a reality. I am so glad I lived long enough to see it!
I got one refurbished.. love it. I also have a Mavic pro. As you said, my Phantom is the beginner drone that is not cheap (I've learned on the toys) but is ACTUALLY training me for the Mavic.
the good thing now is that if you do want to shoot in 4k you can get the new 2016 DJI Phantom 3 4k for the exact same price as the DJI Standard and you get a much better remote.
***** yeah exactly, I'd buy an advanced rather than the 4K cuz the advanced would make flying a little easier and more worry free so u can shoot cooler shots, the 4K just gives u a really good camera that chances r u don't need that good of a camera or u might not render/upload as a 4K video. It takes 1.5 hours to upload 1 min of 2.7k quality. High quality video doesn't mean more views, cool quality shots, content, and editing is what makes more views.

To answer ur last question, I would say maybe it could be a person starting up a studio or TH-cam channel and wanted to access 4K as cheap as possible, and invest into it to get more followers/viewers. With more followers/viewers they can got more money to spend on other better supporting equipment.
I think it's good advice for anyone who has never flown a drone to start with a cheap one. The syma x5c is really good for that. I am going to upgrade to a phantom 3 when I get the money but that drone has done a great job teaching me the basics of the controls and it doesn't matter if I crash it.
I agree this is a great drone if you want to video or take photos, you don't really need to know how to fly... but if something goes wrong with the GPS signal and you cant fly, you're in trouble. A cheap alterative is the Syma X5, if you crash it while learning to fly, $39.00 for a new one. About what a motor costs on the DJI Phantom 3. I'd get this one after learning some basic flying skills on a cheap one. Unless flying it yourself doesn't interest you.
I just bought the DJI P3S 2 days ago! I live on the east coast so winter is approaching and it's been pretty chilly out lately so I'm waiting to take it out once the weather is fairly manageable. Great video bro! Love the channel
I got a skyviper v2900pro for Christmas, it's my first drone and so I'm a newbie at this. I also have a hobby of flying pigeons so I'm hoping on getting some good footage as soon as I get better at controlling the camera straight while flying.

Just bought my first drone yesterday, the Dji phantom 3 standard for 399. I got the parrot drone as a gift and returned it and spent alittle more for a good quality drone.
about the same for me. its really fun. only complaint.. i wish i could fly it farther.. bc I have basically flown everywhere possible around my house. I drive to new locations to fly it now... I know its a lot farther than they advertise, but I flew it a mile away over open water.. was pretty cool
Awesome! You will have a blast. Just remember to initially set aside a good chunk of time before you can fly, battery charging, downloading updates, calibrating, etc.
This is a good no frills review. I admit that 4K cameras are nice but Full HD is actually fine. The 500 meter range can be extended with an upgraded antenna.

Here's a question I haven't found a good answer to yet: if you are using a smartphone to control the drone, does it have to be on cell phone service, or can you just use the phone as is, with no service plan? Also, is there a preferred phone, i.e. iPhone vs. Android? Is there a minimum size for the phone? Thanks.

I ordered one of these today before watching this and I'm glad that I decided on my model for my first drone. I used a friends Dji Magic pro and I really liked it but too expensive for me and it felt a bit too fragile for my liking since it folds up so small but I think this model drone will be the perfect choice for me. I currently have a syma x5sw and i love it...Only thing is, it only has a 3mp camera and i want proper photography.I know the dji Phantoms are very good but even 2nd hand, are out of my price range. Any ideas on a 1080p or 4k camera drone under £200??
The P3S is a great start into heavier, sophisticated video quadcopters, but far from a good idea for a true beginner in the hobby. Not only do you have too many features that cover up lack of flying skill, but you can really cause damage and injury with a Phantom easily. Syma X5C-1 or similar, and take the time to learn how to fly is a much better plan.
My last drone wouldn't connect when i had no internet connection on my phone to download GPS Maps... Does this drone require you to have an internet connection on your phone to fly it?
I would love to get an Inspire One but it's quite an investment. I think I'm going to buy the P3 standard then upgrade in the future if I feel the need. BTW I will mainly be buying this drone for the camera.
Good video. I have the same drone.... Phantom3 Standard and it makes a nice flying platform for photography. Super easy to fly and the Home and auto-return with lost signal are really good, although of course it's sensible to set the minimum flyback height so it will avoid trees and other obstacles. What's best about it is it's superb stability in flight and the rock steady video it can make. Glad I listened to your advice and bought this drone. I've been flying it for a few months now. It works well with my samsung Galaxy Tab4 7 inch tablet.
I guess it won't be a bad idea to buy 1 drone even though it's expensive or an average price drone but you know it's worth it even though your a beginner heading to a pro.

Totally agree. I've had a P3 standard for 1.5 years and love it. I use it to make cool video stories that people love.

If u want a beginner drone that's really cheap, get the zipp nano 2.0, the dart 1.0, the JJRC H36, the eachine E011, or the furibee F36

So 2.7k is well over 1440p. That's great video quality. For the $350 this is going for now, this is a steal. Definitely going to pick one up soon.

i just got a drone and now experimenting with it on my youtube vids its so amazing and easy to use
drones make a great compliment to youtube videos, just make sure not to overdo it.

if you want a good beginner quad, less boring to fly (less automated) try a syma x5c. 1/10 th the price also

If I have it set to record me while I'm in motion (walking) will it show me holding the controls? I don't have anyone to help me with recording...

Do you recommend any particular training program for absolute beginners?
I would love to get an Inspire One but it's quite an investment. I think I'm going to buy the P3 standard then upgrade in the future if I feel the need. BTW I will mainly be buying this drone for the camera.

Good video. I have the same drone.... Phantom3 Standard and it makes a nice flying platform for photography. Super easy to fly and the Home and auto-return with lost signal are really good, although of course it's sensible to set the minimum flyback height so it will avoid trees and other obstacles. What's best about it is it's superb stability in flight and the rock steady video it can make. Glad I listened to your advice and bought this drone. I've been flying it for a few months now. It works well with my samsung Galaxy Tab4 7 inch tablet.

Hey Jeremy, how do you get the drone to follow you. I wasn't able to find that option in Settings.
You know you can go into advanced settings and change how far it can go but if this is a signal issue you can buy range extenders for $16.99
I been thinking about the Autel X Star as my first drone, still doing research for now.
I guess it won't be a bad idea to buy 1 drone even though it's expensive or an average price drone but you know it's worth it even though your a beginner heading to a pro.

Excellent intro, thanks. I have a question that nobody covers in P3s intros: I am trying for over a month to register online and get to "enter verification code" and have no clue what that means. I have no code, it's not a password (like 12341234). I'm stuck and can't fly this thing until I register. Anybody know how to proceed? Thanks.
What is the function of the S2 & S1 switches?
I personally wouldn’t recommend this as a good drone for beginners. I would be more inclined to recommend the Dji/Ryze Tello or the Dji Spark.

Great video! Do you have any experience we the RC not responding? I just fired up my Phantom for the first time in months and updated the firmware like it suggested but now the RC is dead! Green lights on, connected to drone but not responding at all ...
