Nice beginner tutorial, Drone Camps RC. Well done. I will definitely visit your website and take a look. May I give a suggestion to new Phantom Pilots especially after reading the last comment by Joseph S? My experience is based on 2700 military flight hours in 5 different helos, from Bell Jet Ranger trainers to my last platform, a Navy MH-53E (36K lb beast).Flying around at altitude in GPS mode with any model Phantom (I have two) is easy. My suggestion to gain new pilot confidence, minimize landing anxiety, and sweaty palms, is to practice as soon as possible flying the Phantom around no more than 2 feet off the ground, while the Phantom is in "Ground Effect". Ground effect is the cushion of air created by the rotor downwash and will create/require additional minor stick input. GPS assistance should hold you pretty steady at 2 feet off the ground. But, because of "Ground Effect", to hover over a spot (for landing) will require minor right stick input. One of the best lessons I was taught while in training was: put in a cyclic (right stick) correction, then take out that correction while hovering in Ground Effect directly over a spot. So, in real time, your right stick will be in constant motion, putting in tiny control inputs, and then taking that input out.... then moving on to the next correction. Flying real helos to Phantom drones, my cyclic (right stick) is never static and constantly in motion while in Ground Effect or when landing. Practice flying simple pattern work while in Ground Effect. I think it will help new "drone hover" or "landing anxiety" and will quickly build skill and confidence. So, not trying to be a know-it-all or impress (retired and too old for that now). Just trying to pass on suggestions so you build landing skill quickly and avoid crash landing your Phantom!Semper Fly,Dave. USMC 0-3 '79-86; USN 0-6 '86-2010.
Justin- I keep returning to your videos out of the 1000's on TH-cam. Your explanation & delivery of information is very professional & warm. You should be rightly proud of these informative tutorials- Thank you
So stoked to have come across all your vids! Excellent job on showing us all the basics! Thank you so much for helping this beginner out, i greatly appreciate it!
Well shot and clear information - some wind interference at one point but still audible. Many thanks for this, I got my phantom today and intend to fly this weekend - so anything that helps through the first few flights is great.
Add my name to the Happy Campers! I tried flying RC Heli's a few years back and quit when I noticed my credit card was maxed out paying for repairs. Never got so much as a decent hover :( I think the drone will be different. Watching and listening to your tutorial has gave me some much needed confidence. Thanks for helping me and then rest of the noob's!!!
i viewed a lot of videos since this is my first Drone usage .. and this is the best video ever ... very simple and deserves the its title.... Thanks a lot
Awesome tutorial! Put my new Phantom 3 together today and tried it out on the balcony in basic mode - nearly clipped a chair as had it facing me so everything worked backwards - so big tip there! I think I'll take the camera off and take it out into a field.. can't work out how to put the gimbal protector back on though! Can't wait to look through some more of your tutorials!
I like this video...it is clear and understandable...not like some.....I live in the UK and i learned to fly a Hubsan quad and then moved on to the Phantom 2 (not vision).. I still like to pick up tips from others and like your idea for tethering before full flight.. Keep up the good work as i have subscribed...M.B.
I got my Phantom 4 for 5 days is not all this serious is fun but I left my camera and all stuff on it and is was my first time flying it was no problem
Great Video, thanks for creating this. I have never owned one. Just wondering what you think of the idea of buying a less expensive first drone, mastering it, then upgrading to something like the Phantom 3 or 4. I was looking at the Contixo FX RC quadcopter.
Again, great information. I like the way you explain things so even a newbie like me can understand. haha. You mentioned when flying you should have the back of the copter towards you. Is that also when returning it back to the home position?
Good Video. I watched your other Video saying not to use prop guards because of turbulence it creates. I wish I would have watched it in advance of installing mine. As when I took off it tumbled into a Telephone Pole. Now I have ordered a New shell and a CW Mtr and new speed control. :^( I have a question for you? I have plenty of electrical experience but for the life of me while trouble shooting my phantoms bad mtr, I hooked up my vom and tried to get a voltage reading out of the speed control by touching terminals on the red, yellow, blk leads and NADA. I did this on a good working MTR for a comparison as to try and see what parts I needed. I couldn't get a reading so I have a mtr and esc coming this week I also will be installing a gimble, a Camera, a Hub, a Iosd mini, and avl58. so before its over I will be getting all warm and fuzzy inside my phantom. I will give you a shot in future on business now that I have found you. Thanks Bob
You said once you've calibrated the Phantom and attained GPS that you should shut everything down. does that include the controller. Won't you lose your satellites and calibration? this is the only place I've heard this advise.
Excellent tutorial. I want to get the DJI 3 Standard. The question is: Will I be able to get a GPS lock in the PG County Maryland area? I'm close to a Military base:-(
Great video! Really helped out alot.. Simple easy to understand instructions too :) Must say im a bit nervous about flying the Phantom 2 and i haven't even got it yet.. (its on its way) :D All those stories/videos about flyaways etc are a little daunting though
I just took my Phantom 3 Standard out for first time today. My first drone flights ever. I had it in beginner mode for ht and spd. I had a couple small crashes. Everything still working except on the DJI App it won't fly from the app now. My S1 Sw is in middle position. The app says disconnected in camera mode. Help!
I have a question I found this DJI Phantom 1 drone someone apparently lost can I buy the phantom 1 controller and the Fly this drone I would love to return it but I don't know who it belongs to
hi there, good video pal all well explained but i still have a question. Can you fly this particular drone dji 3 standard without the wifi,i mean no phone or tablet or wifi aereal? like you could fly the phantom 2? I've been trying to fly my dji phantom 3 standard and every time there is an issue like batteries are cold, some magnetic interference, also a yellow rapid flashing apparently loss of linkage with the transmitter ? or it won't let me calibrate it. I go flying with my mate who has a phantom 2 and he just does the dji dance and away he goes where as me no matter where we go it takes me ages to get it going if it goes at all! I'm begining to regreat buying the damn thing!!! Thanks.
please help me many time upgrades my phanton3 advanced but it's not complete remote-controlled showing you need to upgrade drone and camera my drone is going hundred-meter up is showing signal weak signal weak
I have seen quite a few videos before i purchase my phantom 2, I wanted to ask, why do the majority say "keep your cellphone away from where you will launch" since you need the phone to calibrate a few things on it ? ie.. waypoints, to view the video on it etc.. do you do the calibration and once done, then it's ok to have the phone near it? doesn't it distrub it either way?
Many thanks for all your videos. Great tutorial and learning before starting to fly. Plenty of useful tips and things to do/avoid I would not even considered myself. Well deserved sub and +. Keep up the good work dude :)
wow I feel completely over welmed and intimidated I didn't know you had too update the remote control as well, I haven't brought my quad yet. I'm kind of nervous now.

30 Year Patrio
Dude! That was awesome. I just retired 2 months ago - now I know what might be my first retirement hobby. Thanks! Great job!
Justin- I keep returning to your videos out of the 1000's on TH-cam. Your explanation & delivery of information is very professional & warm. You should be rightly proud of these informative tutorials- Thank you
Justin is my favorite teacher, i watch Hours of TH-cam videos to learn from other copter pilots, thank you for the five star videos.
Thank you for your help, sir. I watched several of your videos and completed my first flight ever with a drone (Phantom 2) today. Cheers!
As a 10-year military veteran, I appreciate the instruction here. Thorough enough to make competent flyers out of us noobies. Thank you much. Beers!
Mine comes in this week from amazon. I'll sure to be a most observant student.
So stoked to have come across all your vids! Excellent job on showing us all the basics! Thank you so much for helping this beginner out, i greatly appreciate it!
Great video just flew for the first time today with the DJI 3 standard.

Well shot and clear information - some wind interference at one point but still audible.

I just brought a phantom 3 standard so this is a good video for me
Thanks, just about to buy one,all tips welcome, currently flying a Hubsan for experience,do not want to crash an expensive piece of kit.
John Doyle great to start out with a small one. When you move up to the Phantom it will be like flying a Cadillac.
Add my name to the Happy Campers! I tried flying RC Heli's a few years back and quit when I noticed my credit card was maxed out paying for repairs. Never got so much as a decent hover :(
I think the drone will be different. Watching and listening to your tutorial has gave me some much needed confidence. Thanks for helping me and then rest of the noob's!!!
+John Archer you are most welcome. Welcome to the hobby!
Great Video, thank you for the tips. I look forward to putting them into practice when I get my phantom next week.

Outstanding!! Thanks so much. Very informative for the new guy.
Hey man. Thanks a lot. Good knowledge for a beginner like me at 60.
Great video. So I only need to do the circuits to get used to the controls and not every time I start up the phantom ?
Thanks for making this video it has been the most informative piece of information I have been able to aquire. Thanks again!
+Ray Martin you are most welcome sir!
Very well presented! Thank you!

Thanks for watching Micael Bridger! - DC/RC.
Drone Camps...Is that a Pelican 1510 case? Ideally I will get a hard case for my Phantom 2.
Your videos are outstanding, thanks for all the info!
Very good tutorial
If you are descending from high altitude, and you have the left stick all the way down for two seconds. Will it shut off the motors?
Matt D It will not shutoff the motors. Only if you do a combination of down and in with both sticks. But I wouldn't try that!
nice video, good tips for us beginners thanks
Very HELPful! Thanks..
I got my Phantom 4 for 5 days is not all this serious is fun but I left my camera and all stuff on it and is was my first time flying it was no problem

Excellent video, thank you

Nice video, newbie to this, but what is and do you get the WiFi box?
Great tutorial,thanks.
Again, great information. I like the way you explain things so even a newbie like me can understand. haha.
You mentioned when flying you should have the back of the copter towards you. Is that also when returning it back to the home position?
Zim G Yes when you come in to land. It should always face away from you. Battery towards you.
this is THE best tutioral
That was awesome thank you!

Bill J Controller off first. Then copter. Then reboot. Turn on controller, then copter.
Nice tutorial!
Great video, thank you. One question: noticed that your transmitter antenna was not straight up, I always thought that it should be, am I wrong?
Hi, great video!! Are you going to do a similar video for the phantom 3? I would appreciate it!!
Scott N yes the Phantom 3 videos are in progress for you guys! - Justin Davis
Drone Camps RC Any idea when that will be
Thanks!!
good job bro, i learned a lot
What kind of case is that? Is there one that will hold the Phantom with prop-guards on?
Thanks!
nice video bro... thanks
Hi! Very helpful video.
I have plans to buy Phantom FC40. Is it a good buy?
MilkyMX great to start with!
Cool video safe flying 👍
Will the motors shut off if you pull the left stick all the way down in mid air? Great videos, man. Waiting for my Phantom 2 right now.
Yes they will shut off lol don't do it unless you don't want your phantom anymore, and how is your ph2 so far?
Excellent tutorial. I want to get the DJI 3 Standard. The question is: Will I be able to get a GPS lock in the PG County Maryland area? I'm close to a Military base:-(
Probably not in a strict no fly zone. I would suggest flying somewhere else away from there.
Thx for the advice I really needed that
Great video!
Really helped out alot..
Simple easy to understand instructions too :)
Must say im a bit nervous about flying the Phantom 2 and i haven't even got it yet.. (its on its way) :D
All those stories/videos about flyaways etc are a little daunting though
Great job buddy this is the best post ever
I have DJI phantom 2 standard, im opening mine soon, if i dont apply throttle once airborn does it just hover on the spot??
nice vid.can you do the same with the dji go?

+Jeffrey Smith the wifi box only was on the 2014 DJI Phantom Vision+ they discontinued it with the P3 and P4. - JD
This is good to know. Thanks
Thanks great video.
Old, but I need answers
Do I have to have the extra Wifi box?
Can I fly this quad anywhere?
Need phone service to fly?
Do you have any tutorials for the Phantom 4?, this is my first drone and would like to get more knowledgeable before I try to flight it for first time
I just took my Phantom 3 Standard out for first time today. My first drone flights ever. I had it in beginner mode for ht and spd. I had a couple small crashes.
