Hi Juan, didn't know you were a biker. I'm no pilot, but I follow religiously your incident reports, what happen in 3D can easily have conclusions drawn upon and applied to 2D for good effect. It makes me a better rider. Thank you.
@@Bouldertag It's also waaaaay cheaper than the ktm, and I will take the yamaha reliability over ktm any day. I don't care about ridiculous power. I'm not racing. Good grunt down low and easily exceeding highway speeds with a proven engine = a big win. The bike is fine. From what I have watched, many are liking this, especially with the bang for the buck it provides.
@@Bouldertag The 790 is like $2.5-3.5k more than the t7. So yes. I could spend $2k and still save ~$1k compared to the ktm....not including maintenance. "Ok you did not read" (to quote you, except that I did)...that I'm not going to be racing the bike... If I want to go that fast off road, I'll get a dedicated dirt bike. I would need zero suspension mods. At minimum $2k saved over the ktm.
I understand.. For me I am fustrated and wanted more form Yamaha. It is still a great bike. Thanks for your opinions and will consider it on my decisions.
I loved this engine in my FZ-07. Wish the rest of the bike was as good as the engine. This Tenere 700 may be the answer. Hopefully there are some wide comfortable seats out there for it when it comes to the states.
It took a lot of effort but I'm happy. You will see a number of riders who already have the bike say my review is close to their experience. Please note that I have started a series called 'All Things Tenere 700' that will go into far more detail on a range of topics. The Air Filter episode is already out.

Great review--agree with your assessment on re-springing. Thank you for taking time to put this together. I'm excited to see this in North America soon!
This bike is neither available in my country nor could I afford it if it came here and I cannot sit through videos longer than 10 minutes. However, your video kept my attention throughout even though it is late and I really must go to sleep. Your review is comprehensive and well presented. Thank you for your hard work!

Great review, and superb riding skills! I think Yamaha really did a great job with this bike, people waited for this type of bike for a long time. Ticks almost all of the boxes in my case. Greetings from Croatia!
Great review. Appreciate the heavier spring information. As a Newbee Tenere 700 Owner, your video is very informative. I'm enjoying the T7 experience so far, it's a fantastic motorcycle. 👍😁
Hi Robert, not sure what you weigh but to get the best out of this bike I strongly recommend going to a reputable suspension specialist and get them to measure the sag (I'll leave it simple) when you loaded and ready to go on an adventure and then obtain the correct spring weight. Getting the suspension tuned for what you want to do is the best money you can spend. For spring replacement it won't be much, more work can go to $1000 AU
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV- My sizing is very similar (5' 10" or 178 cm/95 kgs). I've had my suspension updated last year on my KLX400 (DRZ400) and it made a huge difference. So, I reckon the heavier spring for the T7 will be something I definitely get done. Thanks for the advice, muchly appreciated. 👍😁
Outstanding review! To the point and relevant. Thank god it's not a vlog of some guy showing us the road through his view as he rides the bike he should be showing us.
As I continue to watch this great video, time after time, I am more and more convinced that this could very well be my choice of a bike. Your review maes so much sense to me, as you emphasize the right things in a bike, simplicity and reliability and I think I could manage the excess weight over a 701 OR 690 and for 3.000 euros less, it makes so much sense.
I am riding a KTM 690 enduro r, and KTM in general for the last 20 Years, and you just made want me a Tenere. For the sake of the features you mentioned at the very beginning of your video. It reminded me of the KTM 640 Adventure. And of course, because Yamaha just got it wright again. Thx
I too have a KTM690 in the garage and before that I had a KTM640 Adventure that I sold to my mate Mal and you can see it on this channel in the desert. I'd have to agree. The only thing I don't think Yamaha nailed was the fuel range that would have been useful for outback Australia. You need a solid 450 ks. But I thinkin the T700 will be saved by after market products. Mind you, I don't need that huge range very often.
Great review, and great to hear your thumbs up for the T7....I've just parted with my beloved XT660Z to get the new Tenere 700 and hope it's going to be a worthy successor!! Looking forward to seeing more films. Cheers, Steve
Great review . Will look into that rear spring as we are about the same weight . Can't wait until the Tenere 700 comes out in June here in Northern California . Unfortunately there aren't as many places to ride offroad near my house so I would have to travel 100 miles or more for any real adventure , eventhough there's trails everywhere in the hills where I live none are motorcycle friendly . Look forward to the next video .
Nice Review. Really waited for this bike so long, I ended up getting a Husky 501. However, I want something that can do longer trips and some light 2 up duty. The only essential electronic gizmo I wish it had was optional cruise control which is why the KTM 790 looks attractive. Overall I've always been happy with Yamaha and currently have an XT250 which gets ridden more than the Husky. Cannot wait to try one this Spring once the snow is melted here in Wisconsin. Cheers!
The best review I have seen about this bike. Thank you! I am planing a trip through Central and South America and the Ténéré 700 is one of the bikes I am considering fir my trip. It’s simple to operate with no fancy electronics. Perfect for traveling through third world countries. The electronics on the 1250GS and Africa Twin are nice, but if it breaks down in the middle of no where or some small down in the boonies, good luck finding a mechanic with the know how, skills, and specialized equipment to fix it. My biggest concern about this bike is the idiotic small tank it has. 4.2 gals might be great for a dirt bike, but not to do long adventure touring. In some places in the world you can fo on for hours and hours not seeing a gas station anywhere. Yes you can carry an extra tank, like in the video, but that tank is taking space that other important gear could use better. I get that Yamaha wanted to save weight, but I think that Yamaha should offer a Adventure Touring mode with a large capacity thank. Kawasaki did just that with the KLR650, with a capacity of 6.1 gallons. And yet, the T7 is only 4 lbs lighter than the KLR650 base model. 6 lbs lighter than the KLR ABS model. By that comparison, the Yamaha with a 4.2 gal tank should be a few more pounds lighter than the KLR. At a minimum 10-11 lbs lighter. Why that much? According to Science and Technology Desk Reference a gallon of gas weights 6 pounds. The T7 carries a hair short of 2 gallons less fuel. I do not ride like you did in this video. My style is more like what I call the “transcontinental style.” My travels involved a lot of road touring but when the pavement ends and the dirt road start, I keep on going with no problem and a bike more than capable to handle that type of road. Being a “Trail Warriors” (as I call them) who ride like if the devil was chasing them and do jumps and go over boulders, logs, and other crazy terrain is not for me for sure. It does not look like fun. Even though the Africa Twin relies a lot in electronics and that can become a big problem if the bike breaks down, like I’ve mentioned earlier, the 6.5 gallon tank in the sport adventure is definitely a huge plus for me. What do you think?
Loved this review. Logical, explicit and organized. "What more do ya want?" I've been very impressed with another bike that's just going into production, the Husqvarna Norden 901. And it's been years, no decades, since I was very active on a Bultaco Pursang and others of that era. But the old Yamaha DT250 was the standout in terms of reliability, as I recall, thus another Yamaha all these years hence is the competitor to the Huskey. So, thanks for this comprehensive presentation and may all your rides be joyful there in the Down Under.
I used to ride a Bultaco Frontera, Blue and Yellow tank with integrated tool box. A wonderful bike except for the 40 mm Bing carby that had a mind of its own in the heat. :)
Sounds familiar. My roommate, a bike mechanic, back then in college (late sixties) had the Frontera. We'd trade out with others who had an Ossa Stiletto, a CZ, Hodaka Super Rat and Penton 6 Days Trials bike. Seems like each make had its own Achilles heel, so yes, it was good to have a mechanic in the ride group. The Husqvarna (KTM really) is the only old make still around.
Great review. Thanks a lot. Just made my mind up after thinking for long time about KTM 790 Adventure R (too much electronics and high price) and Africa Twin (too heavy and costy). Great stuff.
Motorcycle Adventure Dirtbike TV , yes, us Americans are fat!!! LOL. In all seriousness, do you know what weight the T7 is sprung for? I am 150 pounds butt naked, but I don’t ride naked......
@@kirbyclone3293 Interesting point. I'm 92 kg and with gear 117kg ! Best way is to go into the suspension shop and get the static sag spot on. They will know the correct spring.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV hi I have this bike on order in Canada with no suspension shops near me and being almost identical weight and height as you could you tell me what you are running for springs please?
Thanks to you and Clubby* I have decided to pick up a Tenere 700, if you're ever on the East Coast of Canada drop by! Cheers and keep up the Great Tenere Content!
Thank you for your time on this video! Very well done, I have been on the fence between the KTM 1190 and the T7, well....I am really wanting the T7 now......they need to come out in the States! In a post Covid and riot world I need a 2 wheel escape! :-)
By far the best channel when it comes to adventure ridding. pretty cool how you answer to comments when people have questions and doubts. Btw after watching your channel non stop i decided to go with the DR650 but i saw both on dealer and just had to go with the Tenere. :D picking it up this friday
Thank you for the excellent review! This bike is a must have for me and its awesome that someone like you can put it through the paces and give it a good review. You and I are nearly the same height and weight and its great to know that I won't need to change the suspension much. Just the rear spring will most likely do as you indicated. The T7 is due to be released here in the USA sometime this upcoming summer and I'm really looking forward to it!
I think it's going to become an iconic bike. It certainly reinvigorates the Tenere name. In a way you're lucky you never got the old XTZ660, that was a dog in comparison to this beauty :)
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV I really wanted the 660 and I sent two letters to Yamaha urging them to import the bike to no avail, of course. After seeing your comment, I'm glad that it didn't happen.
Great review of the bike you buy off the show room floor. There are too many reviews of this new bike after modifications had been made. This is the 5th review of this bike I've watched and by far the best. I'm hoping they don't "Americanize" this bike too much for us Yankees. Nice job mate! Now put another shrimp on the Bobby!
I started with a DT 175, I then got a an XT 350, I stuck with the Yamaha as the DT 175 was just an unbelievably reliable bike & a great 1st bike to throw around off road. Then the XT 350 was available & I snapped it up. It was like a tank. My next move was always going to be a T7 but marriage kids mortgage & time put an end to that dream. Now my kids are up, I've been married forever so we're sick of the site of each other & I'm really wanting to get back into Adventure riding. Only thing is after all those years without a bike, I'm a little dubious about jumping onto a 700 cc size bike straight away. I know I'll get carried away soon as I'm off road & try & do stuff I used to do. I would of started with the the wr250 but it's a bit dated now for all its a fantastic bike. So I'm left with the decision do I wait for Yamaha to finally replace the WR with a newer 300 version like Honda & Kawasaki have or jump straight onto a T7. Or even take a plunge with the new Honda 300l rally. Decisions decisions. Great review by the way really enjoyed it thanks.
Thanks Dave, been waiting for this! I'm a little taller and heavier than you, so will remember your advice about the correct spring for weight! Cheers for this vid and the maintenance ones to come!
Thank you. I put a lot of effort into it. But there will be a heap more information about the bike on my series, "All Things Tenere 700" the first episode is out on the channel and discusses air filters in depth.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV Thanks but where can I watch the first episode? I'm waiting for my T7 here in Québec, Canada!! Man i'm so happy of your review!!
Thanks for the review and thoughts! Yamaha teased us a a bit too long and I couldn't wait for the release but my first two bikes and snowmobile were all Yamaha. Barring a catastrophe I plan on my last bike being a Yamaha T-7.
I would pick this bike when I decide on this type of riding. Dirt ride-ability is more important than the weight penalty of dirt road/paved road big bores adv. bikes. I also buy bigger spring, glad you highlighted this as important. My KTM 300exc just does not do roads.
Very good review! From your ride, it appears to handle like a dirt bike rather than a street bike with off-road tires! Thanks for this honest, factual review. Certainly a ride to consider! Ride safe my friend.
It'll be it's sister, the Tracer 700 for me...fit a set of 19/17" wire wheels....bigger tank, comfier seat, better weather protection, lighter and a huge range of accessories, and £2700(currently) cheaper, a fair chunk of cash to spend on it....Nick Saunders already took one to Mongolia too!
Planning on, finally, getting my license as a slightly older rider. Seriously considering this bike. I was looking at some others like the Versys 300x to start, or the KLR 650, but this one is so good :) Keep up the great work. I've been binge watching since I discovered it a few days ago :D
Thanks a lot for the detailed review and the action shots. That helps me a lot to get a good idea of what the bike can do. Drive safe mate greetings from Germany
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV I'm planning to put a deposit on one before they get here. I've been waiting for this bike ever since I saw it four years ago. It will be added to my WR250R.
Fantastic review! I’m looking for an adventure bike & this IS on the radar! I’m nowhere near as proficient as yourself off road but this seems ideal for a little off road I’d do. I’m 5’11” & 92kg so the normal setup is more than likely to be spot on! Great vid!👍🏻😎
Good review. Thnx. The bike is a beauty. The only thing of getting, for example, am African twin is for more power and torque. For long tarmac journeys and on the autobahn, the Africa twin is less stressed for doing a higher speed. But for the rest the Tenere 700 is more then adequate. I think it even performs better off road then the heavier bikes like a GS850 etc.
I am the opposite of you. I ride as many years as you are but my experience is on road and track. Thought doing some dirt riding I don't call myself an expert in the gravel. I love Japanese bikes for their longevity and reliability. In the last ten years they are also very good on suspension and brakes.
Thank you. Iti took a while to do. What I've missed I'll cover in the series 'All things Tenere 700' but that will go into things in far greater depth.
Aussie accent. ✅ Then I spot the M1. ✅ Then I spot Hunter Valley trails and familiar bends. ✅ Great review in my own back yard. Well done. I’m certainly interested.
Great review and love your channel. Put a deposit down today on one and need to get rid of my 2020 Africa twin.I love it but too big to do the tight stuff and ride it like the guy in the video, great skills!!
Great review, tons of practical info. I have an MT07 and love it, brilliant little engine, great performance etc, and it sounds from your review that Yamaha successfully transfered all of that across to the T700 :)
This has probably been said but this is what a KLR should have been by now. I had an Africa Twin AS- DCT and I really liked it. Truly liked the DCT. But I sold the bike. Just bought a 450L but I see this in the near future also. Personally I love the that it has practically no electronic extras although I'm pro-fuel injection.
Great review. You didn't mention the disappointing fuel capacity. I notice that you are carrying a spare fuel container. This bike should have a minimum fuel capacity of 20 litres. I have never heard anybody complain that their bike holds too much fuel, so I think that Yamaha stuffed up by fitting this bike with a 16 litre tank.
Great review, spot on with what i would like to know on all your bike reviews. Well done. I hope you have a review on the SWM 600 superdual X soon as i would like to hear your opinion on them. Seems like each make had its own Achilles heel, so yes, it was good to have a mechanic in the ride group. The Husqvarna (KTM really) is the only old make still around.
@@richardcheatham9490 We are both showing our age all those bikes were around when I was growing up.
True that! But fortunately we don't outgrow our adventurous spirit.
Great review. Thanks a lot. Just made my mind up after thinking for long time about KTM 790 Adventure R (too much electronics and high price) and Africa Twin (too heavy and costy). Great stuff.
There are some great bikes out there at present, a very competitive market and great variety for the discerning motorcycle adventurer.
Why do manufacturers never put suspension recommendations based on weight in the manual, it would make an excellent starting point.
Drives me nuts. Yamaha if you're listening, before you send this bike to the USA put a heavier spring in the rear :)
@@frontiermotoventures8824 I am running the standard springs on this test bike.
Excellent review. One of the best i've ever seen.
Thank you
excellent review. One of the best adventure bike reviews I have seen.
Glad you liked it!
Yer great review fella, the most thorough i've watched for this bike. well done.
Thanks to you and Clubby* I have decided to pick up a Tenere 700, if you're ever on the East Coast of Canada drop by! Cheers and keep up the Great Tenere Content!
Deal! More to come in the comng months.
Thank you for your time on this video! Very well done, I have been on the fence between the KTM 1190 and the T7, well....I am really wanting the T7 now......they need to come out in the States! In a post Covid and riot world I need a 2 wheel escape! :-)
You provided excellent coverage of the appropriate suspension and spring configuring.
By far the best channel when it comes to adventure ridding. pretty cool how you answer to comments when people have questions and doubts.
Btw after watching your channel non stop i decided to go with the DR650 but i saw both on dealer and just had to go with the Tenere. :D picking it up this friday
Tenere is a great bike, just get the suspension sorted for your weight and riding style. Lovely riding long adventures on it, or just cruising around.
Great review. I think I’ll be getting one when they get to the US
Thank you for the excellent review!
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV
I really wanted the 660 and I sent two letters to Yamaha urging them to import the bike to no avail, of course. After seeing your comment, I'm glad that it didn't happen.
That’s a bad ass motorcycle, a do it all, Machine takes you around the world for lees money with no problem.
What a great honest. Detailed review, wish I could ride a bike like that. Well done, love the bike will need to test one 👍
Thanks! 👍 I still have it. I now has brilliant suspension.
Glad you liked it! Yes my bike is the Touring Version off the show room floor.
Should be doing a review of the 300 rally soon.
Thanks Dave, been waiting for this! I'm a little taller and heavier than you, so will remember your advice about the correct spring for weight! Cheers for this vid and the maintenance ones to come!
That's a review!! Thank you very very much!! Professionaly Done!!!
@@savardr6 At the end of this video is a T700 playlist click that.
Thanks for the review and thoughts!
Yamaha teased us a a bit too long and I couldn't wait for the release but my first two bikes and snowmobile were all Yamaha. Barring a catastrophe I plan on my last bike being a Yamaha T-7.
They teased us way to long too. I thnk it is worth the wait but make sure you get the rear spring for your weight.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV Sage advice that I will definitely take.
Well done Dave. Been waiting for this. Cant wait to see one.
Thanks Alex.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV , one more question, would you compare the T7 to the KTM 790 Adventure?
I would pick this bike when I decide on this type of riding. Dirt ride-ability is more important than the weight penalty of dirt road/paved road big bores adv. bikes. I also buy bigger spring, glad you highlighted this as important. My KTM 300exc just does not do roads.
Great Review. I ordered a T7 over the weekend and hope to get it in January 2022.
A lovely bike
Very good review! From your ride, it appears to handle like a dirt bike rather than a street bike with off-road tires! Thanks for this honest, factual review. Certainly a ride to consider! Ride safe my friend.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for giving me the taste for the T700 !
Regards from 🇧🇷
No problem 👍 Anytime. More to come on the Tenere 700 in the weeks to come.
Nice review mate, I am keen to go and test ride one of these, all I can say is one day I might be aloud to get one.
The best review out there for this bike. Excellent!
Planning on, finally, getting my license as a slightly older rider. Seriously considering this bike. I was looking at some others like the Versys 300x to start, or the KLR 650, but this one is so good :) Keep up the great work. I've been binge watching since I discovered it a few days ago :D
Go for it!
Thanks a lot for the detailed review and the action shots. That helps me a lot to get a good idea of what the bike can do. Drive safe mate greetings from Germany
Glad it was helpful!
Looks like it was worth the wait. Great review there Dave 👍
Wow, I can barely ride my 250, and I want this T700!! Great video thank you 😎
Glad you liked it!
Love the reviews dave... be picking up my t7 in a month ..
I/m confident you'll love it but get that rear spring for your weight.
Love the T7..... my next purchase!!
Great review, can’t wait for them to land here in the states 👍✊️👊✊️👊
Yeah go for a test ride and see how my review stacks up against your experience, not what you read on the internet.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV I'm planning to put a deposit on one before they get here. I've been waiting for this bike ever since I saw it four years ago. It will be added to my WR250R.
My dream bike... First purchase after college, no doubt!
Very nice bike, great review. Out of my price range though, I’ll keep riding my trusty KLR650 😀👍
Well done Dave, that was one of the best reviews I have seen. I"ll have to ask Craig if he has watched it.
Thanks Kev. I tried to ride with Craig the other day.
Best review out there. Thank You! Trying to decide between the new 2022 KLR650 or T7. Weighing value to $$$$. Probably T7.
Look forward to riding the new KLR.
I'm 178cm 5ft 10.5 inches so it would be spot on. I think this is a very generous bike for someone entering into the sport of adventure riding.
Beautiful riding, beautiful Landscape, Great bike, great review. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
What about the Yamaha Tenere *250* Motorcycle sold in some markets - bring it to Canada.
Mine is a great bike.
Just what I wanted to hear. Cheers mate!
Glad I could help!
Best review I've seen!! Thank you👍
Glad it was helpful!
Obviously you know what you are talking about. Excellent presentation.
Lots of other reviews to have a look at on this channel.
I am the opposite of you. I ride as many years as you are but my experience is on road and track. Thought doing some dirt riding I don't call myself an expert in the gravel.
I love Japanese bikes for their longevity and reliability. In the last ten years they are also very good on suspension and brakes.
Excellent review. Seriously considering this bike. But, it is "damping" not "dampening", it's not a diaper we're talking about here ;)
Id say suspension tune is best thing you can do to your bike, no matter what you have... And second best is good new, proper for terrain tires. Cheers
Strongly agree
Great review as always Dave
Thank you. Iti took a while to do. What I've missed I'll cover in the series 'All things Tenere 700' but that will go into things in far greater depth.
Aussie accent. ✅
Then I spot the M1. ✅
Then I spot Hunter Valley trails and familiar bends. ✅
Great review in my own back yard. Well done. I’m certainly interested.
Thanks 👍
Want one. Badly. Available here in Thailand April, about 2k GBP more than the UK.
You'll be able to ride to the Himalayas in a couple of weeks! You are lucky!
Great review and love your channel. Put a deposit down today on one and need to get rid of my 2020 Africa twin.I love it but too big to do the tight stuff and ride it like the guy in the video, great skills!!
Glad you liked the review, more to come on the bike shortly.
Excellent video. I am thinking of buying a T7 but for the road predominantly. Long-travel suspension for the roads in northern Thailand.
Good reliable bike but a little tall in the seat for shorter riders.
Great review, tons of practical info. I have an MT07 and love it, brilliant little engine, great performance etc, and it sounds from your review that Yamaha successfully transfered all of that across to the T700 :)
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes they were very successful in the transfer of that engine to adventure.
Great review. I just wish dealers in my area had one to see.
Yes, still shortages in production for a very good reason.
Totally agree with the criteria . Good show mate .
Thank you
This has probably been said but this is what a KLR should have been by now. I had an Africa Twin AS- DCT and I really liked it. Truly liked the DCT. But I sold the bike. Just bought a 450L but I see this in the near future also. Personally I love the that it has practically no electronic extras although I'm pro-fuel injection.
Excellent Review ! Very well put together - Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
You helped my make up my mind. I have my deposit down. Waiting on my T7 in the US.
excellent bike
Well I'm convinced, thorough insight. 🙂
*Googles Yamaha dealers near me*
longkeith. So did I.
Fuel for the Australian rider is only an issue out in the boon docks. I understand a solution is on the way by Safari Tanks.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV Ah, good. Safari to the rescue.
Nice Review. This looks like a nice bike. Keep up the good work.
Cannot wait for this in my Las Vegas dealer! I really want this bike against all of my wife's wishes ! :)
Not long to go now. Worth the wait.
Thanks for a great well organized review MAD! Very helpful.
loving my t7, just need the lock down here in Wales to be lifted so i can get some longer rides in
Great review, spot on with what i would like to know on all your bike reviews.
Well done.
I hope you have a review on the SWM 600 superdual X soon as i would like to hear your opinion on them.
Not many dealers have demos so a review by your channel would be great.
Tossing up between bmw gs 850 adventure, tenere 700, ktm 790 ,SWM super dual X.
Thanks for the great review and look forward to more videos.
Just found your page on facebook as well awesome.
Thanks.
Great review thanks for uploading! T7 Not available here in Brazil and doesn't look like it will be but I weigh 76 kg so my Yamaha xtz250 Ténéré has enough power for me and my baggage in any case would love to try the T7!
Hay B R A Z I L great to hear from you. There is much fun to be had on a 250 as you know from this channel! Safe riding.
