I was veeeerryy close to grabbing a 2024 T7 but after realizing I ride 80% off road went with a 2023 CRF300 Rally. Got it for $5,000 and throwing about $4,000 in upgrades on it and it’s freaking incredible
Man I’m torn right now. I moved to WA and got the 300L because of all the supposed tracks. But they’re all so damn far that riding on the road for 3-6 hours to get to them one way sucks. Almost thinking of getting the Tenere instead and just give up most off road except forest roads. At least I could get to them.
@@Thatbeardedguy86I got rid of the Rally pretty quickly, I ride a KTM 500 EXC-F now. I’m not a fan of riding pavement so I literally just haul the bike to areas with trails then ride out from there. I also base camp ride so I’ll set up my camping stuff at a campground then ride the trails within the area that I’m camping in
I owned the T7 and it’s tall and top heavy , I’m in my fifties and have a bad knee and hip , getting old is shit. But it’s a heavy bike and for my skill set it was too much so now I’m riding a 300 l. I’m 210 pounds so I’ve fitted YSS rear shock and upgraded the fork spring , really improved the handling on and off road . Absolutely love the little Honda , far more fun than the bigger bikes ,best move Ive made . Love the channel . All the best from the UK 🇬🇧🏍
I've seen allot of dudes who've never ridden dirt bikes, trail bikes, or duel sports think their gonna buy a T7 and go do singletrack. If you wanna get hurt then go right ahead, but the T7 for any average rider is a TERRIBLE bike for off roading.
Colton I agree, It is a tough bull to handle. People see other riders like pole tarres throw it around like a trials bike and think its not that hard. Having one I can tell you that it takes some time, and is a hard bike on single track. I dont know if you watched it all but I really tried to drive that point home when I said its not a beginner bike.
@@MotorcyclesOffroad Yeah man, I'm more referring to dudes who've ridden street bikes for years, thinking the T7 is gonna be their first "Off Road" bike. There's another you-tuber (who I won't mention, not looking to throw shade) who bought a T7 and mentions it being his first off road bike, and doing singletrack on it, only to be in for a rude awakening. He later added a 300L to his fleet to. Right tool right job, unless your a damn animal and it doesn't matter which isn't most of us.
Couldn’t agree more. Same as people trying to ride challenging dirt on 1200s I remember the days when a 600 was considered a set of keys for an orthopedic doctor’s Mercedes. It’s just a pig. Long days in the dirt are so much more FUN on a dirty day.
I'm getting myself a T7 at some stage. It will be used 80-90% on road with some light TET adventures. I had a Maico 490 back in the 80s......but I'm not so stupid to think I'm as strong or as fit as I was then. Know you abilities folks.
It's also as I've noticed requires a lot of respect, in young and dum 20 year old and let's face it decision isn't the best for a guy my age😂, I know the 300 which I do own is perfect because even when I do get frisky with he throttle it's more forgiving
This is the comparison review I didn't know I needed! Now reconsidering the 300L as my unicorn for travel and offroad in SE Asia. The investment : Fun ratio looks ideal. (liked and subbed)
Really like your reviews. I just got a new 300L and after one ride I am ear to ear smiles. Granted I have not ridden many other bikes but I can see this bike being a long term friend
Nice comparison ! Love the tenere . As a rally owner your estimate is pretty good I would say on average 400 km range but I have pushed it as far as 550 km when taking it extra easy !
an older video, but still filled with great information that applies to the same bikes offered today (basically unchanged). my first time watching your videos and I really like how you speak, how you cover information, your over all presentation is stellar. No hype, no bs. Great job.
You are exactly correct on your review, I own a big bore 2013 wr290r with all the freckles, 90/10 tires, the best bike I ever owned period with 30000mi and a basically stock T7 with 50/50 tires, I am a very good dirt rider in south Jersey, did a number of enduros, harescrambles, at first a did not like the T7 at all, then I got back in racing shape rode the t7 alot this winter on single track and it makes you a much better dirt rider, you have to use all your dirt bike skills to ride it off road, just got back last weekend and rode the wr290r on singletrack and I was just turning and burning, felt like it was a lirtle pit bike, actually I think the best unicorn adventure dual sport motorcycle for under 400mi adventure is these small japanese 300cc bikes, if you stay off the interstates, a small rally windscreen, seat concept seat, 3gal tank, the only reason I bought the T7, I sold my street cruiser and take my T7 on 2000mi week trips
Just want to give you some honest feedback with appreciation for each and every video I've watched from you is truly awesome, high quality in production and especially content rich info based on experience, not philosophy, cheers
Nice comparison! Although i totally love the T7 design, i must say nimble and agile sometimes is a win. Especially in my country where there are a lot of mountainous areas. We drive smaller cc bikes here, and we have a lot of XR150L, CRF250L, WR155R, XTZ125, KLX250, etc. not just for dual-sport but for daily commuting as well. You don't need to go fast, you just need to glide through the terrains with ease.
I have a T7 that I took on an off-road oriented trip recently. Second day out I took a wrong turn onto an unrated trail, hit some sugar sand and lost control. Twisted my leg under the bike and injured my MCL. I've been heavily considering down-sizing to a Honda CRF300L Rally to gain more experience with a more forgiving bike. Videos like this only make me more confident in that decision.
Excellent unbiased review. I'm an experienced rider (50 years) having trialled and raced. I'm looking to get back into dual sport after many years out and feel that the lighter bike will be for me, especially being based in the UK countryside, where straight and fast roads are scarce. I'd probably go for the Rally for the longer tank range. Thank you.
Great video comparison Andrew! I currently own a Tenere 700, a DR650, a KLR650, and an FZ1. I keep throwing around the idea of replacing my KLR with the 300l. A couple more videos like this and I don't think I'll be able to fight the urge!
You have quite a garage there, all good bikes. I mean the 300L doesnt give you that rush when you rip the throttle but it will feel like a feather compared to those others.
Why not a KLX300? Sounds like you would be using the T7 more on road/adventure, the new 300 would be used more off-road and has way better suspension out of the box. Unless you plan on throwing money at the Honda. I have a T7 too btw (and a Hypermotard)
Very nice vid. I considered the T7 and went with the 300Rally and loving it!. If I have to take a cross country ride I take my GoldWing. But now I find myself riding the 300 Rally over my GW or my VRod Muscle, and always searching for another off-road trail.
Based on distances, I ride 95% on road. Based on time on the motorcycle, I ride 95% offroad. When I talk about % road/offroad I always clarify on what metric I am basing it. In my case I went for a small but very capable XTZ 150 instead of a 300-400 cc road oriented bike (almost same engine sizes as the ones you are comparing but with a factor of 0.5). I chose to be a little more patient the 5% of my time on the highway in order to experience a greater joy when I finally get to ride offroad that other 95% of my time. The distances are long here but it was worth it. Once you get to the mountainous regions you can have endless fun off-pavement. Greetings from Argentina. And watched until the end
Great video, I’m going with the 300l Rally. Cheaper to buy, cheaper on gas, cheaper on insurance (here in Canada) and enough bike for my day to day needs. Thanks Andrew!
@@MotorcyclesOffroad that's a good price. Wondering about the Canadian guy though. And, for you specifically, 70/year? Not per month? Cheers and thanks for the videos. If I ever get into it myself I'll be sure to give you a shoutout.
Thanks - an accurate video. I think what gets a lot of people is not knowing exactly what they want to do on their bike, even with these sorts of comparisons. I had street bikes and the T7 appealed to me for all the positives that you mention - price, simplicity, capability and reliability, plus the ability to get off pavement. But, as you and others have pointed out, I found out it's not great for technical riding, especially without the skills. Picking it up gets old quick. So I bought a 300L to learn the technical aspects of trail riding and it has helped me improve how I ride the T7. The two bikes are similar yet very different and they complement each other well. If i had to pick between the 2 it would be very difficult, they are both awesome and fun bikes. I grin ear to ear every time I ride either one. Just depends on what I want to do that day. Longer distances - pavement and forest service roads, or having to ride to a trail head and exploring some singletrack or whatever comes along. My advice is to get both :)
Well said Dan, I agree with everything you listed here. I myself also really enjoy having them both but I know not everyone can do that. I think maybe thats why so many people asked for a video like this.
Great video, watched it to the end. I own the tenere 700 2021. Its the perfect bike for me as I want to ride dirt roads an some tarmac long distances. I want to travel and motocamp. Perfect tool to explore new places here in Finland.
I mean I never thought to compare them, but everything is comparable. They both have a ton of similarities, and for a lot of people it may be the idea to jump to an adventure bike or stick with a dual sport or for some I wanted to point out this is not the same in many ways and not for a beginner. Either way it seems from all the positive feedback I have got in the first couple hrs that this video will help some people to make a decision on what bike is best for them. I truly believe this video will get more views and view retention then I have number of subs (6000) in a matter for 2 weeks. So maybe I am helping some people out. With the way things are today people cant test drive bikes before they buy them so videos like this are more important.
Andrew, Thoroughly enjoyed this comparo, (yup …easily captured my attention to the end). The factors used to differentiate bikes, personal insights only an owner can offer, combined with high quality videography and screen caption editing really made this “Must see TV” 👍 Been decades since riding off-road, but am seriously considering my first adult dual sport purchase. 30” inseam & AARP qualified age, suggest a shaved seat + K-link would be wise (at least initially) to develop bike handling skills. New subscriber, your excellent work deserves greater recognition!
Oops, I shoulda specified the CRF 300L. Sure, the Yamaha XT 250 is more inseam friendly …but I would only consider it as a ‘transition bike’. I learned how to handle my first adventure bike (Suzuki Vstrom 1000) pretty quickly, without modifying seat or suspension.
I have the 250 Rally and 300L, I travel huge distances fully loaded for up to 12 weeks a trip. No issues at all. Plus trails are far easier with the reduction of weight. The T7 to me is to too heavy and cumbersome on trails. I travel solo and being able to pick my bike up on my own is essential
Excellent comparison. Excellent descriptions. Watched to the end. Planning to get a 300. I’ve been comparing to the CB500X but have decided against it. I’m wanting more off road. I have a Indian Challenger for my long distance road trips.
Well I think you already have your answer, you already have a good rode bike so the 300L or 300rally should be what you spring for. As for just offroad the 300L is better and you can drop it 1000 times without worrying about cracking the ferrings the rally has. But the rally has better lights and a huge fuel tank getting you a 260mile + range. So all depends what you want to do with the bike. I really dont think the CB500X is a good bike overall, I think it is caught in the middle of a catch all bike and is not really good offraod, but you already have a road bike. Anyway I hope that helps.
Good video I love my T7 but I know my limitations on it off-road which sometimes it feels like the bike is telling me to go there every time. I have had all the drops and picking up drama and of course the bruises from taking it beyond my limits. So this is why the 300L interests me as a second bike. Bottom line is I’m getting old and it’s getting harder to pickup that T7. A lighter bike would be so welcoming. That way I could have the best of both worlds.
I own a 300 rally. My suggestion is stay with the T7. The crf is a lawnmower. It doesn't like going faster than sixty and feels very top heavy. Maybe a regular crf is better but I thought the rally would fit my riding better because of on road use.
It is funny you say that about picking it up, I went as far to add dealifts to my lifting regimen just for that reason haha. But to be honest the 300L is a bike that can teach you a lot.
How tall are you? I'm hoping to get into one of these bikes or similar soon. Might also wait it out until Yam releases a Tenere 300, since they recently dropped the WR250R from their dual sport lineup. It just makes sense they'd release a T3 at some point.
I am so on the fence between the two bikes and have been for almost a year now. I would eventually like to own both as I feel they are each in their own right a purpose built machine. However, they are characteristically close enough to cross over into the others realm relatively well. As I already own a strictly road oriented bike I am leaning towards the CRF300L first then go from there. Goals. Thank you for taking the time to compare and contrast these bikes. It was well articulated and vastly beneficial. Safe travels my friend! ✌️
that's like being on the fence between buying an f250 or a ranger. both go on the road.. both go on dirt. One is built for pulling 10,000 lb trailer the other for hauling a Christmas tree. If you never really ride hard singletrack , hop across logs, jump. hillclimb, rock garden, etc... then the 700. If you do like to do that stuff then the 300.
I would say get the 300L first and see how you like it. Its a completely different feel going offraod. I wouldn't want anyone to have their first big chuck of offroad riding on the T7.
Unless you have done a lot of off road I would stay away from the T7 very tall and top heavy, I can flat foot a CRF300L but only tip toe the T7 not a good first time off road bike. I have many years of road and off road and would not get the T7 for off road. much better bikes out there, weight wise.
@@hiltonmcconnell2563 Agree with this. The T7 benefits an experienced dirt rider who is comfortable standing a lot off road. Can be ridden like a huge dirt bike at that point keeping some things in mind. It's a lot of momentum and weight to slow down though. Easy to start feeling a little comfortable and roll on the speed. Next thing you know you've tucked the front of your 450 lbs+ bike that lays super flat in some akward position.
I have no intention of selling my Africa Twin because like you Andrew it serves me as does your T7 serve you. I will enjoy far more for all the reasons you discuss my CRF Rally when it arrives to ride braided rivers rocky fire breaks and especially single tracks. Your experienced clarity on the subject will be a huge help to many ...... Your presentation, dialogue and editing is smooth as butter and makes for great watching. Thanks.
I own both aswell and am selling the tenere now. Twice the price does not equal twice the bike, it just means a top heavy brick with a choppy throttle.
Agree about not even thinking to do side by side comparison of these different class bikes. But these 2 bikes in my garage together would likely end my search for the perfect ride. You’re a smart man!
I am getting a little criticism over on FB for this video but a bunch of my subs asked for it and the view count really shows it is something people are interested in.
I bought a crf450L. Basically a street legal dirt bike. The 250/300 is a sweet little bike but it's no off road weapon and it feels kinda slow on the road. The 300L is a great beginner adventure bike because you can easily pick it up and it's much cheaper than most other bikes. Also maintenance is way easier and less frequent than my 450L. Good video.
I have yet to ride one? Do you have the issues with low speed technical stuff? Everyone complains about the flame out and how it cost tons of money to fix the bike how it should run.
I bought my CRF300L to ride off road because I didn't have my license yet. I figured it would be a good easy upgrade from my CRF250F to learn to ride on road. Not a lot of highways around here so I figured it was prefect. But ever since I did my MSF (one of the instructors had a T7, what a beauty that was!) and got my license, I have been spending a lot more time on the road than off road. Commuting to work and back was the most common use for the bike. I find myself leaning more towards road riding but would not like to sacrifice off road riding. I have been thinking a lot about the T7 lately! And I think since the wait time is so long on these bikes, I might just order one. I figure that by the time it comes in, I will have outgrown my 300L. I am 6'1 and weigh a good 250 lbs so I need to get a good suspension overhaul on the CRF. I think the T7 would prob handle me better lol. Thanks for the informative video! Keep it up sir!
I loved the vid. I also have the t7, but instead of the 300l I would compare it to my drz 400s. I actually laughed out loud when u mentioned the lc4 640....I own one and I honestly fall in love with it every time I ride it less than 20 miles. Lol
The answer is both. ;) Have the T7 and a Husky TE250. I'm not doig hare scrambles anymore and finding time for more aggressive type off roading is limited. I'm thinking the 300L is the ticket. Easy to ride low key bike that you can have fun on the trails with and modify as you see fit. Was thinking about the crf450rl but there's a lot of hassle and cost associated with it by comparison. It's no doubt the superior bike but more difficult to live with in my eyes.
@@MotorcyclesOffroad This my experience with the Rally. The stock suspension was terrible and the power was adequate. I weight around 220 without gear and stock suspension was way too under sprung for me but I could still live with it. I upgraded the suspension, went with the YSS front spring and YSS fully adjustable rear, 550 performance ECU, Arrow exhaust and DNA filter it completely transformed the bike . Its now a different machine, the suspension now feels better than the T7. I can now cruise at 75mph while even going up grades, before I could barely keep it at 70 and that was with a tail wind LOL. After the mods I absolutely love the bike. I'm averaging around 70/75 mpg if I ride conservatively and get around 65 if I'm pushing it. I highly recommend doing at least the suspension upgrade if you are a heavier rider. The Rally rides so well now that I'm planning on doing a suspension upgrade to the T7. People might look down upon upgrading a motorcycle but I think upgrades are necessary to suit your riding style. It really improves riding experience. The Rally is a great bike for the money.
Great comparison mate Yea I’m enjoying both bikes for the same reasons T7 touring fast roads including good gravel and the 300 L for steep single track with mud Cheers from Chiang Mai N Thailand
The Tenere 700 as I ride it gives up nothing as a road bike and has off-road capability. The crf 300L that I rode is the best (on road) 250/300 dualsport ever made and is good off-road with some help.
Sold my T7 and bought the Rally because I was riding alone in the bush mostly. Needed something I could pick up if I was hurt. Miss the power on the black stuff, but happier everywhere else on the Honda! Faster too!
Made it to the end. Traded my 22 KLR because I made the mistake of owning multi-cylinder bikes before this one. Also thought I would go off-road. Life changed real quick, and freeway driving took over.
So happy I came across this video! I always though of Tenere 700 as my next bike but thought of it a bit out of my budget. I recently started considering CRF 300L Rally and this video certainly gave me some confidence that I won't be making a huge mistake, especially as I want to do parts of TET. Well, if I am making a mistake, I will always be able to move up to the Tenere later 😆 Thanks for a great video!
Sounds like I need to buy both of these. 300L first then the Tenere. I’ve been having trouble deciding on which 250-300 bike I want now I know I want the 300L and eventually the T7. Thanks for this!
Well I can tell you I am extremely happy and grateful I have both. I also did a comparison of many other bikes like the 250l and the KLX300. I will like the 250L vs the 300L but oddly enough I feel the KLX250 is better over the 250L and the 300L over the KLX300: th-cam.com/video/on1uzOHKNsk/w-d-xo.html
Great comparison video. I had a 250L and did everything to it including a sidecar and a turbo, but it just wasn't big enough for long adventures. I got rid of that and my old goldwing and I'm looking at getting a tenere. This is exactly the kind of comparison I needed
I recently found your channel. I’ve watched a bunch of your videos and now I’m subscribed. I’m in the market for a dual sport bike to ride around the mountain roads of northern Utah and to take on some moderate mountain and desert trails. I’ve been looking at used bikes, but people are asking $3k for 15 to 20 year old bikes that are not in flawless condition. I think you’ve convinced me to go ahead and buy a new CRF300L. It will be all mine and last for decades. Thanks! 👍
Really looking at the T7 to get rid of my old kx250f. It will be a steep learning curve I am sure, but the extra power and reliability that the kx doesn't have are a big plus for me. The size doesnt bother me too much, especially when a majority of the offroading i do is on basic flowy trails and basically dirt roads anyways. With a number of riding parks withing an hour ride, it doesn't seem like a bad option.
Can’t find any T7’s at the dealers up here in the PNW but I plan to buy one. I’m hearin 6 months to a year wait. Excellent breakdown and analysis all the way through to the end!
That was a great video thank you 😊 got me a honda 300L down here in new Zealand great little bike 🏍 have a suzuki v Strom 1050xt for the road work and it's a great bike as well Cheers
Thank you, and thanks for subbing. My daughter loves riding, I hope she is still my riding buddy as she gets older. I did a whole video riding with her on the channel and if you saw my Yoshimura exhaust sound comparison video she is the one riding my 300L lmao.
It’s funny, I almost didn’t watch to the end because i got busy but then i was like, this guy made a good, informative video, and TH-cam makes watching to the end matter. And then 1 minute later we get the thanks. No, thank YOU
Oh I watched all the way to the end I also have owned both bikes , iv still got my tenere 22 plate for the same reasons as you've said never selling it either
I want em all.....lol On the serious side saw a T7 buzzin around Hells kitchen the other day...good looking and sounding bike, very special ops looking
Thank you! the thing is, so many people do not finish videos. If you saw the analytics. It seems people only ever stay 6 mins or so, and that is on many channels.
I considered both but came to the conclusion that if i got the crf300l i would have to get a streetbike too. I have limited storage so that was a hard option. I also considered what kind of riding i was going to do and the offroad part of it is not advanced enough to motivate against the t7 so i got myself one. The t7 is top heavy and you will notice when you go slow in the terrain. Tip it over and it will be very hard to lift. I recommend you to install a rear rack so you have something to grab on to when lifting it.
Great vid. Been waiting for the 300L to come in stock. Local dirt and commuting for me. Gas is crazy $5+ here in Cali. Gotta hang up my truck for weekends only. Great content, I really enjoyed it.
There is a recipe id like to call out for motorcycles and new riders. You dont need as much power of road.... A heavy bike offraod is not much fun either. That being said if you have the money and want to tour off roadish the Tenre is a great motorcycle. Being a 45 year veteran rider and still able bodied, I feal soo free on my 250 rally because i can literally go any where. 700ccs shines more on the street for sure. I can own any motorcycle off the self fortunately because i have a decent job and decent credit now that im older but, i cant have them all at once... I do have 12 motorcycles currently and the Honda rally still stands tall in its own right for sure. No regerts. Now an MT07 on the street is probably just what the doctor ordered for my next one.
i saw your tenere for sale on facebook, if i had the money I would buy it but unfortunetly I cant bring myself to purchase it, I will most likely go for the crf300l.
Thank you for this video. I am coming from riding a crf250r and really want something that’s street legal but can handle the OHV trails I am so fond of. I am very curious about both of these bikes and this video was exactly what I was looking for.
I guess after finishing the video and some consideration it’s probably smarter for me to buy the 300L rally. I was really leaning towards the T7 initially for no other reason than power/weight and overall aesthetics. My current crf250r makes 42 hp and is almost 100lbs lighter than the 300L, so I wasn’t super keen on buying something heavier AND less powerful. I find my bike to be very satisfying on trails, extremely maneuverable and very fast without being too much of a handful. But after watching this video and reading all of these comments about people selling their T7 because it’s too heavy and not confidence inspiring for anybody not named Pol Tarres, I just feel like it’ll be too much bike for the single track trails I love to ride. I do want to do moto-camping, but really just so I can set up camp and hit the trails multiple days in a row. Ultimately I will just have to sacrifice my ego and settle for a “slower” bike in the name of maintenance intervals (probably my only complaint of the 250r is that it feels like I am constantly having to change the oil) and highway capability with a 6 speed (no speedometer but I imagine my 250r caps out at about 65mph). It is what it is.
The funny part is that I was about to replace my T7 for the crf 300, had a blast on the dirt, But it was so shit on the road that I kept my T7 eventually.
Very well presented and informative review. I have aCRF300L and a F800GSA, could ride thenGS all day, do some light off reading but there are places I can take the CRF that I would not dare take the GS. Really like the T700, must test ride one soon.
Great content, I've been hoping that honda comes out with a african twin 750 or 850. I'm not holding my breath anymore, the T7 is calling my name. For my 55th birthday my plan is to do the TAT, 30 to 40 days solo. I believe that the T7 will be all I need.
Have the 250l, would still like to pick up the 300l except I didn’t get one of the 15 that have been offered for sale in the USA (your lucky) hard to buy what’s not for sale 😞. Almost bought the Tenere but I mostly ride OBDR great for the camping gear not great for the trails with gear on bike-👍 spot on vid
I feel like a lot of adventure bike owners like the idea but really never use the bikes off road. I can't see riding a 500lb top heavy bike through any kind of rough terain. The Honda is a different breed but really under powered for highway use. With that said I like the Honda for what it is.
Thank you for your review and comparison. I curranty own a 250l rally and was wondering about the T7. but I'm not willing to sacrifice the light off road capabilities of the Honda, so i thing when its time for me to upgrade ill go with ether the CRF450RL or KTM/Husky 500. I'm also wanting to get Supermoto wheels and tires for road (which ill have on 70% of the time), aggressive road legal dirt wheel & tire (when i'm planning on going off road). and also a timber-sled kit for winter so i can ride year round on it. i don't thing the T7 wouldn't work well with the timber sled kit as its heavy and wouldn't out weight the extra HP.
Good video! I own a T7 and a Husaberg 550, and I really think they are diferente worlds. Would ask for more power in the honda as I think i would miss the big fun of high power and low weight (125kg) of my husa. Keep doing my friend!
My son has a 300l and I have the 300 Rally, and it sure seems like the Rally splits the difference between these 2. I'll keep the 300 because I've managed to get old without picking up any riding skill whatsoever, and I can (and do) pick it up 3 or 7 times per ride. I would literally crap if I had to pick up a Tenere.
Nice video, I put my name on a list to get the 300 rally it never came in ended up with the G310GS nice little bike. but I did add some rally raid parts to help it out for the off road rides, I’m still a Honda fanboy and time will tell if the baby GS will hold up for the off road I have planned for it this summer. I also wave to everyone and made it to the end
I’ve just got into a bit of dirt riding and both these bikes were on the list. I went with a 2nd hand 250L because I’m more interested in off-road. I love the bike, but man heading up the motorway for an hour at 110kmh to get to the trail is more frightening than the trails I ride. Numb hands, sore ass, blown all over the place and no real chance of overtaking anyone.
Thank you, I am testing the wr250r vs the 300L this weekend. I did have a wr250 in the past but to do a complete review I want to do them some by side.
In Costa Rica, the price of the 300L is close to 9000$, that's too much for a dual sport, but the Tenere is at around 21.000$, albeit with tax included.
@@MotorcyclesOffroad My brother has a Tenere 700, I have a CRF Clone, a SSR-300, commercialized here in Bolivia in it's original brand, Bosuer. I'm 5.7" and unable to touch the floor with my two feet in the Tenere.
@@MotorcyclesOffroad Thanks for your reply! I think it will be 50/50 road/offroad. Traded in my KTM 790 adventure and I really hope this bike has better quality haha.

5 tips to make you a better off-road rider instantly: th-cam.com/video/xrlrGJhb6wg/w-d-xo.html
if you want showmanship, home comfort and prefer the crowd,.... choose Tenere, if you want real offroad the CRF300L will suit you just fine.
I also base camp ride so I’ll set up my camping stuff at a campground then ride the trails within the area that I’m camping in
@@armored-clownsee even the KTM 500 was something I was considering instead. If I’m going to just use a bike for dirt, get a dirt bike.
Does the yss shock lower the 300 ar all !
(liked and subbed)
fuel injection is a drawback for me personally offroad
Very happy with my 300L for all the reasons you pointed out in this video. Nice analysis.
Thanks mike, I feel it is a really solid bike. Especially for its cost and service intervals.
Which one would you pick for a cross country trip that includes 4x4 trails in national parks, camping, and interstate travel?
I run the 300l rally and I absolutely love the bike, also great job on the content 👍
Very nice vid. I considered the T7 and went with the 300Rally and loving it!. If I have to take a cross country ride I take my GoldWing. But now I find myself riding the 300 Rally over my GW or my VRod Muscle, and always searching for another off-road trail.
Thanks man, and yeah I can see that. These little bikes are fun.
Do you put camping gear on your bike?
Great video, I’m going with the 300l Rally. Cheaper to buy, cheaper on gas, cheaper on insurance (here in Canada) and enough bike for my day to day needs. Thanks Andrew!
Yeah I get that, I just have one for each purpose.
How much of a difference was there for insurance?
@@reck0n3r idk I pay like 70$ a year for both.
@@MotorcyclesOffroad that's a good price. Wondering about the Canadian guy though.
And, for you specifically, 70/year? Not per month?
Cheers and thanks for the videos. If I ever get into it myself I'll be sure to give you a shoutout.
Honda makes the most sense for me .. 2 very diff bikes - that do basically the same thing .. Great video
Spot on!!!👍👍👍👍
Great video, watched it to the end. I own the tenere 700 2021. Its the perfect bike for me as I want to ride dirt roads an some tarmac long distances. I want to travel and motocamp. Perfect tool to explore new places here in Finland.
Hello to a fellow owner, yes I feel this bike is great for what you are doing. I do the same with it.
I think yamaha should come out with a 400 version with around 45hp and low weight They would sell out.
I agree with you these two bikes definitely are not comparable
Andrew,
Thoroughly enjoyed this comparo, (yup …easily captured my attention to the end).
The factors used to differentiate bikes, personal insights only an owner can offer, combined with high quality videography and screen caption editing really made this “Must see TV” 👍
Been decades since riding off-road, but am seriously considering my first adult dual sport purchase.
30” inseam & AARP qualified age, suggest a shaved seat + K-link would be wise (at least initially) to develop bike handling skills.
New subscriber, your excellent work deserves greater recognition!
Thank you so much, so what bike are you thinking of starting with?
Oops, I shoulda specified the CRF 300L. Sure, the Yamaha XT 250 is more inseam friendly …but I would only consider it as a ‘transition bike’.
I learned how to handle my first adventure bike (Suzuki Vstrom 1000) pretty quickly, without modifying seat or suspension.
@@vtwinfant50 ohh well you will be fine with the 300L I'm sure.
I mean yeah you are not wrong. The T7 is a beast so pickup. I love camping off of it thought, Id doesnt seem to be bothered by the weight of my gear.
As you were asking, yes I was here to the end👍
Steven you are the man! thank you so much.
I watched it all the way to the end. I have a T7. I don’t have the Honda 300 but always respected it.
Yeah they are 2 different bikes for 2 different tasks.
Vernon I do not feel that with my 300L but I dont know about the rally. I may have one coming soon tho, so we will see.
How tall are you? I'm hoping to get into one of these bikes or similar soon. Might also wait it out until Yam releases a Tenere 300, since they recently dropped the WR250R from their dual sport lineup. It just makes sense they'd release a T3 at some point.
@@reck0n3r I am 5'10" tall. And yeah I will be getting one of those Yamahas. I did a whole video on it, tho I don't think it will be soon.
Would love if you could revisit this but with the CRF450RL vs the T7
@dsergison this is what I needed to hear, bc I wasn't sure what people meant by technical riding
Great review. I have a T7, but I really like the CRF300.
Thanks.
Wow thanks so much. Reading this comment really made my day. Im glad you enjoyed it took a ton of work to put this together.
I own both aswell and am selling the tenere now. Twice the price does not equal twice the bike, it just means a top heavy brick with a choppy throttle.
ouch , my sympathies but you should be able to recoup most of price
Agree about not even thinking to do side by side comparison of these different class bikes. But these 2 bikes in my garage together would likely end my search for the perfect ride. You’re a smart man!
Thank you! Thanks for the kind words.
Good video.
Thanks. But I will have to say maintenance intervals are literally ten times more frequent on the 450L over the 300L.
Thanks for the comment, they really are 2 completely different machines. Try to keep both!
I watched it all! Thank you for your time, effort, and insight.
Thank you for taking the time to watch it all.
I loved the vid. I also have the t7, but instead of the 300l I would compare it to my drz 400s. I actually laughed out loud when u mentioned the lc4 640....I own one and I honestly fall in love with it every time I ride it less than 20 miles. Lol
You have an awesome selection of good bikes! And the LC4 was awesome, I had to get rid of it to make room/money for other bikes.
I enjoyed the video. I own both(Rally Version) and think they complement each other well. I also agree with your analysis. 😀
Nice, I am looking to pick up a rally just to make some more content with. How do you like it so far?
Great comparison mate
Yea I’m enjoying both bikes for the same reasons
T7 touring fast roads including good gravel and the 300 L for steep single track with mud
Cheers from Chiang Mai N Thailand
Hey thank you from Thailand! I know not everyone can do it but it is really nice having bikes for different tasks.
The Tenere 700 as I ride it gives up nothing as a road bike and has off-road capability. The crf 300L that I rode is the best (on road) 250/300 dualsport ever made and is good off-road with some help.
I agree 100% thanks for the comment.
Sold my T7 and bought the Rally because I was riding alone in the bush mostly. Needed something I could pick up if I was hurt. Miss the power on the black stuff, but happier everywhere else on the Honda! Faster too!
Awesome! I should have a rally coming soon to test.
Good choice. I'm buying a rally for the same reasons
Thanks! 👍
Awesome! I hope you find one. Another great used bike is the DR350s, I loved mine and they last forever.
Did u ever take it to the mountains? I'm trying to find a bike to take from nj to Utah, and explore the parks there, with camping gear
Thank you, I am.glad you liked the video.
That was a great video thank you 😊 got me a honda 300L down here in new Zealand great little bike 🏍 have a suzuki v Strom 1050xt for the road work and it's a great bike as well
Cheers
Very well done. I have yet ridden either bike so I cant judge. Thats cool that your daughter rides with you. Stay safe
No, thank YOU
Hey man thank you!
Oh I watched all the way to the end I also have owned both bikes , iv still got my tenere 22 plate for the same reasons as you've said never selling it either
Well thanks for the input!
I want em all.....lol
On the serious side saw a T7 buzzin around Hells kitchen the other day...good looking and sounding bike, very special ops looking
Yeah it is a cool bike, I also want them all lol
Happy to subscribe, I'm another fortunate one that own both models😊😊
watched to the end! cant understand why a viewer would start and not finish. Good vid
Thank you! the thing is, so many people do not finish videos. If you saw the analytics. It seems people only ever stay 6 mins or so, and that is on many channels.
I really really like the comp. I have the DR 650 and a small XR 125 thinking to upgrade it to a 300. Thank you
I considered both but came to the conclusion that if i got the crf300l i would have to get a streetbike too.
I dropped my T7 in Nemadji state forest with all my gear on it and I could not pick it up by myself.Luckily a guy in a SXS stopped and helped me.
Great vid. Been waiting for the 300L to come in stock. Local dirt and commuting for me. Gas is crazy $5+ here in Cali. Gotta hang up my truck for weekends only. Great content, I really enjoyed it.
I was thinking the same thing, as gas creeps up Im going to be on the bike much more. Even on rainy days.
Miss my 1981 XT550. Low, seat, high power , not super heavy & Yamaha design.
i saw your tenere for sale on facebook, if i had the money I would buy it but unfortunetly I cant bring myself to purchase it, I will most likely go for the crf300l.
I think a 300L rally is a great choice. Its a different style of riding it will definitely be fun and there are some ways to uncork it a bit.
Subbed! Thank you for your thoughts. I'm stepping down from GSA and GS, going more gravel and less asphalt and longer distances
The funny part is that I was about to replace my T7 for the crf 300, had a blast on the dirt, But it was so shit on the road that I kept my T7 eventually.
Different bikes for different purposes is the real way to go.
That would be amazing, are you motorcycling or staying in hotels?
Great content Andrew. These are exactly the two bikes I've been considering.
Awesome! which one are you leaning towards?
@@MotorcyclesOffroad The 300L because my background is motocross and off road. Plus, I'm new to street riding.
There has been a ton sold in US. Im in a few groups and it seems like a few hundred people have them here.
Man, awesome video!!!
I still can't really decide 100%..... I wish I could have them both. This is the way!
Haha well thanks, yes they are both fun in their own way. It really comes down to what you need or what to do.
Thanks for making this review. Watched it to the end!
Thank you for taking the time to watch!
You are Probably right, Also look into a KTM690 adv or DR650. they are both between the 250L and the T7 on weight.
Great review Andrew.
I watched it all the way through, Andrew. Great content!! Now I want both.
Thanks, and both are great bikes.
Good video! I own a T7 and a Husaberg 550, and I really think they are diferente worlds. Would ask for more power in the honda as I think i would miss the big fun of high power and low weight (125kg) of my husa. Keep doing my friend!
Thanks for the comment, and watching the video. I am glad you enjoyed.
Awesome man! congrats on the new bikes. Yeah the Tenere is a bit heavy to pickup, Also worse with all the gear on it.
Exactly the review I was looking for. Excellent! I'm going to buy both of them ;-)
Haha thats what I did. I mean I know not everyone can do something like that, I actually have a side job that funds my toy habit.
Very very nice video !!!! Superb organisation of the info ! Loved the Ten but I adore the little red
I feel they are both awesome bikes but it all depends what you are looking for.
Thanks for the comparison, unfortunately both bikes aren't available for a few months (at least in Northern California)
Truly informative as always and down to earth knowledge. Thanks Andrew keep it up man
Thank you for the kind words. I missed youtube to I started up a month or 2 before planned. I was only going to make videos on my riding season.
Yo keep up the good work brother I got a drz 650 and love ur vids man. I'll send my riding buddies links to ur vids keep up the good work man
I’ve just got into a bit of dirt riding and both these bikes were on the list.
You should get a 300L rally, install an ECU and exhaust. It will have much more range, be better on the road and you will be able to overtake cars.
@@MotorcyclesOffroad it was going to be a 6 month wait for the 300L. Covid.
Great video, thanks for sharing. Cheers
Thank you very much.
Thanks for the great info.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
It really reached me
Thank you, and thank you for the support. Im glad it was an enjoyable video for you.
Great editing
Enjoyed the video! Watched it to the end
Thank you, glad you liked it.
thanx! Good, thorough analysis.
Thank you, I ton of people asked for this video, and I feel like why not I have both bikes lol.
loving the in depth reviews!
Great video! informative, clear and from my point of view, very accurate.
Thank you, thanks for the comment. Also thanks for being a subscriber.
Just thank you all around lmao
@@MotorcyclesOffroad My brother has a Tenere 700, I have a CRF Clone, a SSR-300, commercialized here in Bolivia in it's original brand, Bosuer. I'm 5.7" and unable to touch the floor with my two feet in the Tenere.
Great video man!
Thank you, and I am glad you enjoyed it.
Really love your video! Just bought a T7 ☺️
Awesome! Such a great bike, ATM these are my two favorite bikes to own. What do you plan to do with it? Motocamp, Offroad, Commute, I am curious?
@@MotorcyclesOffroad Thanks for your reply! I think it will be 50/50 road/offroad. Traded in my KTM 790 adventure and I really hope this bike has better quality haha.
@@drkatt191 ohh yeah then I think you will be really happy with the Tenere. I swapped out the tires to Brigstone Battlax and the bike is great.
@@MotorcyclesOffroad Thanks! Really excited haha. Picking it up next week 😍
Thanks! For a future first time buyer, this video was very helpful.
Honda it is :)
watcehd till the end as well lol !
liked and subbed :)
