Axel Davis 9800 in 1 repair. Vanos pump blew up and in the process I changed the rod bearings and some oil lines. Tranny replaced rotors replaced a couple modules replaced. Brake pads replaced like 6x lol religious oil changes every 5K kilometres, honestly after the major engine repair it was other things breaking. The car had been abused and not taken care of properly by previous owner so I had to pay the price. I did a lot of mods and replaced clutch twice. Too much shit to remember. I just purchased a 2008 with 60k miles and 3 years warranty after being 2 years without a beast. I’m giddy again and hopefully this one treats me well. Oh and besides eventuri air intakes which I bought for 2500 everything else was done at an Indy
@@K06E what was the mileage on your previous M5 when you bought it? As I heard that 2006 and 2007's are reliability nightmares. Is this true? Or is it an urban legend?
Ata Orkun Oğuz I’m the wrong person to ask as every summer I was putting thousands into it. Mine was an 07 bought at 78k kms salvage I fixed it up. Just after 8k kms is when the pump blew on the highway after some very hard driving. Honestly the engine was mint after I replaced the pump and bearings. It was other stuff that kept breaking and my inexperience with Indy shops. Got ripped off badly the first shop I took my car to they made me change tranny then told me it wasn’t the tranny at all 🤦♂️ I had bought the tranny for 2k of someone and I couldn’t just return it. It’s safe to say I bought a lemon as it was abused and neglected maintenance wise. I drove it really hard too but also did oil changes every 5K kms not miles. My engine was always strong. Anyways I ended up totalling it at 122k kms in Jan 2019. Now I got this 08 beast with 60k miles and 3 years warranty, don’t be scared just buy one that’s fairly low miles and 1-2 owner car. My old one was written off 2x prior to me buying it and I was the 4th owner. This new one I bought I’m the 3rd owner and I have all the service records. These cars are intoxicating to drive. Keep up with regular maintenance and your good. Buy 08 if you can.
Respect man, especially for daily driving it. My ‘09 is a weekend getaway machine only. My favorite thing about this car (except for driving it, of course) is how much it has taught me about the mechanics of cars. I never knew what a rod bearing was or how VVT worked until I started researching how to maintain my M5!
It is a reliable motor! The S85 rod bearing issues stem from poor maintenance and lack of appropriate warm up time. The rod bearing issue is accelerated by cold 10E60 oil. Until I see my oil temp close to 200 degree's I don't go over 3K RPM's and give it 15 mins before driving at all! Try to change oil at 3K miles and no more then 5K. It is important to drain the metal shaving via oil changes as much as you can afford. Oil changes cost a lot on this thing but will save you money in the long run! I am in an 06 E60 M5 with 52K miles. I am getting my oil anaylzed just to be safe although I am not too concerned with my rod bearings as the car fax confirmed the previous owners got regular maintenence :) cheers

Problem with this car is usually they get into careless hands..... Know 2 people owning them cant say anything bad or extremely expensive. I mean if you can afford m5 you shall know what brake discs and pads are going to cost you..... And being m5 that car gets some shit from the owner otherwise whats the point owning it?
Why have you bought a silver one and drive it stock in addition to that? Do you really like the color and don't you feel it looks grandpa-ish? Or did you just buy it because it was cheap?
Areku06 I couldn’t agree more. They get a bad rep from people who treat them like shit, thrash them every where and never maintain them right. I own an E46 M3 competition and haven’t had to do anything to it. I do oil changes every thousand miles...which is over kill but it’s my baby lol
Im sure there are some independent shops that would be willing to do it, but for a crazy fee. It's not a common swap, and it's really only been done by a handful of people. DM Alex on the IG to see what his process was and he could probably point you towards the right direction! Best of luck!
Reliable? You must be out to lunch or high on life. 9500$ on the motor is light years away from reliable. Honda would be zero. Lmao. However fun I’m sure it is. But that’s a huge chunk of money to put into a car. Scares me from buying ine
The m5 e60 was designed to be driven hard. So if you just bought it now used. Obviously the first owner would have driven it hard. So expect a costly maintenance but hey you paid a mere 15 percent of the original cost. So stop complaining. Pimping aint easy 😁

Got a video about the manual swap?
unfortunately we do not! But we will be making one on the E46 M3 SMG to 6speed manual swap!
So we should expect to spend in repairs what I would pay for it....if I do the work myself? Ouch
BMW happy when you buy it happier when you sell it .
You have lowerings springs and spacers?
Only lowering springs
@@T30o Cool, keep it going.
Why have you bought a silver one and drive it stock in addition to that? Do you really like the color and don't you feel it looks grandpa-ish?
Or did you just buy it because it was cheap?
Most likely cheap. Here where I live a silver 06 with 45k kilometres sold for 24k. Canadian
Sick ride man 👍
more like RIP ride ):
So it’s not that bad as they say??
What transmission did you use on the s85? Original 6 speed or ...?
Jr Zendejas-Ruiz transmission off of a e92 M3
Great to see someone with such a passion for this car
It is actually not that bad, not many things broke, if only BMW parts weren't so expensive...
Was this car on original Rod Bearings 140k?
no it was changed
Good review but still considering
Hey how much you spend on the 5 speed job
The 6speed swap cost Alex about $3300 (self-labor). This was also before he sold some SMG stuff.
Fix up the wheels man
Driving to school in a e60 M5
Me: I have no life, good bye ppl
Yo are you selling it?
Even if you can work on it you’re self. It’s just to much man. I fucking love these! But would never want to own one.
Sorry, but i have to ask... wHatT ArEEe THooSEe????
Nice ride, just not worth the $ for upkeep. Enjoy!
BMWs are reliable if maintained, my e60 550i has 155k miles still runs like new.
Areku06 I couldn’t agree more. They get a bad rep from people who treat them like shit, thrash them every where and never maintain them right. I own an E46 M3 competition and haven’t had to do anything to it. I do oil changes every thousand miles...which is over kill but it’s my baby lol
155k is nothing
Not really I have 540i e60 and this car was a nightmare for me....
There are times of people who maintained these exactly as they were supposed to be and they still lost a fortune on them. Terrible engineering.
@@claycrawford9009 your E46 is a much more reliable car than the ones that followed. The V8 M3 and V10 M5 were very poorly designed cars.
Did you diy the manual swap on the board?
Simon Nim yessir! DM @s85socal on IG for the link!
Hell to the no, to the no no.
Cool car but this is another reminder that this is a money pit vehicle
david el deek money pit vehicles are the ones we can’t get enough of 😉
@@T30o what color is the car
Tony Harris silver stone metallic gray
Clean e60 bro🤘🤘🤘🤙🤙🤙🔥🔥🔥
At what milage did you do the rod bearings
Zac Mezel should do at 80k miles but I did at 115 and it was only cupper
Рома Рома did the copper do any damage to anything or did you just change them out and it was good to go? Thanks for the reply
Zac Mezel no damage. Just changed and good to go
before 100k miles, do oil analysis even at 60-80k miles.
Areku06 I just did mine at 93k with be bearings. Everything is cherry so far only put 200 miles on em so far
You know of any shops in CA that would do a manual swap?
Im sure there are some independent shops that would be willing to do it, but for a crazy fee. It's not a common swap, and it's really only been done by a handful of people. DM Alex on the IG to see what his process was and he could probably point you towards the right direction! Best of luck!
Teo Corrales thanks man. What’s his IG handle? Don’t know of him :(.
Eric Paz check the description
Reliable? You must be out to lunch or high on life. 9500$ on the motor is light years away from reliable. Honda would be zero. Lmao. However fun I’m sure it is. But that’s a huge chunk of money to put into a car. Scares me from buying ine
oh
All I can hear is the shame in his voice, and see the pain in his eyes
The m5 e60 was designed to be driven hard. So if you just bought it now used. Obviously the first owner would have driven it hard. So expect a costly maintenance but hey you paid a mere 15 percent of the original cost. So stop complaining. Pimping aint easy 😁
It's all relative, I'm down 35k in repairs and still dont regret it.
thats fucking insane.. I love v10's but my god...
and how much time all up has your card spent at the mechanics?
You put 100 miles a day on an M5? Jesus you must spend some money on fuel lol
George Austers 🤪🤪🤪
Throwing away thousands of dollars just to say I own a bmw just doesn’t make sense to me. I always loved how the car looks but these are definitely money pits
It's not because he wants bragging rights it's because he enjoys the car and it may be his dream car. Don't bash someone about how they spend his money. We all have something that makes us so happy that we will do whatever it takes to keep that. Take your negatively else were.
Thanks for the laugh ...your choice to spend your $$ on maintaining this endless money pit...so many choices out there for a reliable and fun to drive car...I am out of here...
At what mileage did you replace the throttle and idle actuators
